Jim or Al, can you put a link on both sites for the registration ASAP. Thank you
Yeah, thats some messed up shit. Clicking on the link for player registration takes you to a Sponsorship word doc?!
Shawn, your site has been updated. Let me know if the change is okay.
Wow, thats evil. I knew the course development fee was not optional, but why make people pay the WI Tour fee if they don't care about accumulating WI Tour points?
Shawn? You've got contacts with the powers that are running the event... What's the real deal here?
sigh... as much as I want to play, I knew in the back of my mind that the wife would deny this weekend... My anniversary is the 30th, and we are going out of town somewhere this weekend. :(
Hey - would someone be willing to pick up a couple of the event discs/players packages if I give cash in advance?
Shawn??
I believe the consensus at the April meeting was a Yes.
So, was it all nice out & suddenly start to suck tonight?
Seems like those clouds came outta nowhere...
Cool!
Mirth/Jay, can you please update our site?
THANKS!
Several of us were throwing around the idea of sponsoring the Prairie open. I think we should!
I believe a TeeSign Sponsor would be the route to take ($50). Can we ratify this at the next meeting?
These Wisconsin guys have been VERY supportive of DIScontnuum and all our efforts! Their 2002 Steady Ed tourney was SO MUCH FUN and well run too! They are constantly making improvements to Parkside and are planning on a new course in Pleasant Prairie later this year.
Sponsoring them as a club is the least we can do. I also encourage individuals to sponsor in any way you can. Also, I think it would be great if we had 20 or more members play in this event! Go SEWISC!
It's just costs more for sandbaggers like you!
:-)
Shawn, I was just filling out the entry form and it looks like you aren't taking personal checks, but it isn't clear. Are you? And to whom shall I make it out to?
you bet homey!
How many Pro spots total will be available?
OK, nobody really answered my question (except brett) either here or at the last meeting.
I formally propose DISContinuum sponsors a hole at the Prairie Open. They only have one left. We owe it to the folks at P-Side and the other Keno folks who have put so much work into all these courses and who drive so far to be at Bevier events. We need to support those who support us.
I hope this goes through, because I'm going to arrange it anyway. If the club votes against it, I'll pay for it out of my own pocket on behalf of the club.
Sorry. Forgot. Thanks. Good. Done.
I think it was "UW Parkside Ranger's Office" or just UW Parkside and send it to the Ranger's office. Can't remember. Check the PDGA Disc Board....
at 4:20pm. Shawn Fallon turns into a huge, prize-winning watermelon!
I cannot be there - AAARRRGG!!!
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE take some photos or videotape it (with permission, of course). I will reimburse for film, etc.
Also, GOOD LUCK to everyone playing this weekend! HAVE FUN!!!
Brett said the clinic was AWESOME - wish I could've been there! I'll be out there early tomorrow to see how squishy things are.....
How did Kuffel and Schultz get partnered? Good gods......
Yes, a BIG THANK YOU to Shawn, Paul, Craig, Dennis, Pat, Ed Wallen, and all the others who put on such a great show!
Congrats to Doug (Ace on #4 saturday evening casual round), Jojo (nice Ace), Steve, Pat & Damon!
This will go down as one of my FAV events of all time!
Has anyone heard how Alex (or Billy Crump) did at New Lenox on Sunday?
Damon, did you go?
.... and it ROCKED!!!
BTW, sorry, Damon. Brain fart on my part.
Sorry about the delay. Fell asleep early last night (actually got 6 hours of sleep!!!). I'll post 'em before Singles tonight......
Results for Pro, Masters, and Advanced are posted on sewisconsindiscgolf.org.
Other divisions to come as soon as my flippin' PC gets defragged.
yes, it was a great event and all you SEWisc guys did a great job. The UWP staff did well too, but the $$$ portion of the event makes me want to skip it next year if it is done the same way.
Is Pleasant Prairie still a possibility?????
I also think that is a great idea to sponsor this tournament. I think it would benefit us big time by doing so. I was planning on playing, just have to double check my schedule for that weekend.
Yes, it was voted that we would sponsor a hole. Thanks for taking care of that Jim.
cool!
Friday was awesome!! The clinic put on by Barry Schultz & the Carolina crew was great. I learned many helpful tips.
Saturday was fun!! The atmosphere was awesome. UW Parkside has come a long way & is a top notch course. The course played around 6,100 feet & with winds of 30-40MPH. I shot +11 on the day & finished tied for 7th in the Advanced Division. I'm not sure what scores won each division but shooting par today was great.
Not only is the course great but having the facilities @ Parkside is awesome. Great food, beer, & place to relax.
The only complaint I heard all day is why the Pro Master winner only got $170.00
Jojo,
Congrats on the ACE & for the 3rd Place finish! Sounds like a great day to play.
Shawn,
I was wondering if you guys had to contact Gary Lewis or the PDGA about sanctioning due to mileage limitations. New Lenox, IL is only 94 miles from Kenosha, WI. The PDGA stated a C/B Tier Event must be 250 miles apart. I'm just wondering because Jon & I had a bear of a time trying to find an open weekend due to this rule. Let me know.
Thanks
Brett
I'm still trying to figure out the payouts for the advanced division. I am really confused????
There were 45 Advanced players. The entry fee was $37.00. $5.00 going to the WI Tour & $2.00 to the course.
45 players X $30.00 entry fee = $1,350.
$1,350 X .75 (amount that must be paid according to PDGA) = $1,012.
According to the results from the link on our index2 the total paid to the advanced division was $853.00.
To make things more confusing, it says I won $41.00. The 3 of us that tied for 7th place got envelopes with $35.00, $33.00, & $31.00. We divided that & got $33.00 each.
I understand there was a player package & award costs. Was that not added to this.
$1,350(entry) - $853.00 paid out = $497.00
I want to understand the #'s. I want to run PDGA events in the future. Can someone help?
Thanks for that info Shawn. That is a bummer that you had to pay for the facility use. You'd think they would have been happy getting new faces around campus & making $ off the concessions. Keep us posted on the meeting. Thanks Again! Brett
#8 ranked -]Best Attended PDGA Events in the new DGW.
There are so many bugs on this form, I will try to contact someone about them.
They are working on it now, they got a big list of errors to fix. Should be done soon.
Everyone on Sunday will be playing short tees, everyone on Saturday will be playing long. Keeping it the same for everyone makes it easier to mix divisions if neccesary. Saturday all concrete (sidewalks) will be OB, none for Sunday(except for roads).
WI tour is not an option this year for WI tour events. We had to sign an agreement with the tour that we would do that. The cost I have no control over....had no idea they changed it. All I know is that we asked them to include the fees and not make it sound like it was optional, and they declined to make the change. I'm not happy with this tournament by committee, Id like to go on about it, but will not. This is the 1st big event on the course in their eyes and they want it to be a great event. So we have to walk them through the "way" things are done at disc golf events. It should be alot easier for future events after this one as we are writing protcol with this event.
Yes, it would be better looking, clearer to follow registration if we had control over it....but we don't, we are just running the tournament.
Anyway, this event is going to be a blast, lots of added cash and prizes....Lots of CTP's for the AMs on Sunday. We got control over the sound system in the union, so we can jam some tunes. Players package is insane with what you get also. You will not be dissapointed if you play. Food...beer...mmm food.. Should be a fun party after the Pros/advance play Saturday.
Course is in excellent condition at this time. We have spread over 200 yards of chips on the fairways over the last few weeks, and it looks great. Moved baskets #3, #5 and #12 today to spice things up a little.
Please get registrations in soon to help us get ready for the event. Let me know if you have any questions.
Jim, as many as possible...it would be nice to see a field of 90 for both days. If there is more we will add a few more holes.
Also, we need to get sponserships in A.S.A.P. If anyone needs a form let me know and I will get you one.
#10 got moved to the left also... Pat parked it to the right and after walking up relized the basket was to the left... No birdie for you (in best soup nazi voice)

If anyone is interested, we are having a Doubles/Clinic on Friday the 30th. The clinic will be given by Barry Schultz, Brian Schwebeger, Brian Mcree, and Billy Crump. So make sure you plan now to have this afternoon free. You will learn more in 30 minutes from these guys then playing for years and figuring it out on your own.
Did I happen to mention that you then can have a chance to get partnered with one of these guys in a doubles game.
Sweet...
Friday, May 30th at 4:30p.m.
Random draw Doubles/Clinic open to everyone (newbie's to Big Guns)
Before Doubles there will be a clinic given by Barry Schultz and the Carolina Crew (Brian Schwebeger, Brian Mcree, and Billy Crump.)
On the side note..lots of people are saying that this only a C-teir...Yes...But as a first year event this is what they start you at. This event is a C-teir with a A-teir attitude. You will not be disappointed if you attend this event.
Completly random draw...with #'s.
Sorry, I cannot make everybody happy.
72 player max. about 20 awesome players will be playing...chances are pretty good to play with a big arm.
Jay, we ran out of shirts.. I never got one, so they might run a few more off. I will try to pull one to the side for you.
OK..the masters. We used the PDGA payout table...some people don't like the flat-payout that the PDGA reccomends. No cash was added to this protected division, just open and women. It was a c-teir event..Alex was the only one bitching about the cash(imagine that), I'd like to see him pull off an event equal to what we did and make everyone happy. He would have made more cash if he played Open with the score he shot.
I did not know about New lenox until after the event when Billy wanted to play Alex again. I'm not sure how they got the sanctioning on the same weekend. Parkside was a PDGA event all weekend.
Should be up on the SeWI site by tonight or tomorrow.
I know that player packs and trophies came out of the players cost. As for other costs for the usage of the facility and food that was not sold that we had to pay for...that is something that we got raped on. After this event we learned alot. If you want #'s for stuff I can get it...but not on this open forum. Next year will be much different as we may not use the building, food service or porty potties.
I had no involvement with the numbers except for helping get sponsors. All I can say I was shocked and quite pissed when I heard that we were only adding as little to the purse as they did. And I almost walked when I saw the expenses that were incrude before the event started. It is a goverment facility and we got fucked in every way. We need another course on county land around here....
We have a review meeting on how we are handling next years event on the 12th so I can let you guys know what happened.
The event will happen again next year as a B-teir. Things were talked over and things will change next year. The money issue was within guidelines of a c-tier. And know that they know the cost for an event, next year will be much better. The problem came from people registering the day of the event. Next year will be pre-reg only. The money that was left over from bad figures will be put in the purse next year. We still had more money added this year then most c-tiers....but it should have been better.

Steve you Rule! Homestar Runner is the BOOOOOOMB!
I had a great time despite my second round, but will post more about that later as I dont have a lot of time right now. Shawn have a question for you though. Just looked at the shirt I got this morning and realized you guys gave me a medium(had asked for xl) is ther any way to trade that or something?
I think it's a trick to get more sponsors :-)
Sweet! I will be there Friday for the clinic, Lord knows I could use the help and I won't have to take off work early! Rock on!! I'm really geeked about this it should be a lot of fun!
SO bummed it's at 3:30. SO envious that Kyle is unemployed! I can't leave work til 4 but I'll be there for doubles. I would have loved to be there for the clinic
So Steve, Kyle and I got to UWP early to get a morning round in and I shot -3. Ya think I could carry ANY of that over to the rounds that ACTUALLY count? NO! But Steve and I played another 18 after the tourney and Steve was AMAZING! He walked up to hole 17 -9 and I was -4, I just missed the ace and my disc was sitting under the basket and Steve HITS the basket but it bounced out. He was able to hit his duece putt so he was -10!!! Unfortunately he struggled on 18 and double bogied it but it was still a GREAT round! I finished -5 and felt good about my round but he blew my round away! Too bad we couldn't have done that in the Tourney!
I stopped by the Student Union today and registered. Looked like they had a few other forms in the folder already.
yes, I thought we voted to do it.

The only complaint I heard all day is why the Pro Master winner only got $170.00
It has been my experience that no matter how well an event is run, there's always someone complaining about something. How many pro masters played? It looked like there were 10 pre-registered.
I heard that there were some pro masters still trying to do the math too.
The cash payout to the pro masters was $28 per player. The cash payout to the open pros was $36 per player. The prize payouts to Advanced were $19 per player at retail. These numbers simply reflect the total payout reported per division divided by the number of players in that division. These numbers are your base value per player per division.
Obviously, you have to add the pdga fees and series fees into those payout numbers to get a fair comparison of entry fee to value. Were there player's packs? Sterling silver trophy cups? If so, you have to prorate those into the payout. Three ordinary $30 trophies would add $2 to the Advanced payout.
If there were players packs worth $10 each, then all you are looking at is the payout drain caused by players packs. If there were no player's packs, then $500 was taken from the advanced division and not returned to the tournament process.
Before the tournament I was hearing a lot of noise about sponsorship. The payouts seem suggest that the sponsorship did not find its way to the payouts. What's up with that?
Sorry you got burned by the university. Maybe they aren't "ready" to have tournaments at their facility just yet. It has to be discouraging to sponsors who also participated in the tournament to see their sponsorship get eaten up by overhead.
Quotedamonshort (04-01-2003 12:29 p.m.):
whoa, it did go up... I thought I remembered Adv Master being $30, now it's $37.
....hope I have a job by then....
The $37 includes the $30 Adv Am entry fee, $5 Wisconsin Tour and $2 course development fee.
I guess the Wisconsin Tour and course development fees are not optional.
Doh! It was a great shot (not that I make that many) .................. to where the basket used to be.
Such is my disc golf life.
Today(Sunday) went GREAT!!! What a good time, and the course looks AWESOME!!!
The conditions where much better for us than they were for the pros. Maybe 10mph winds with the sun shining all day. Couldnt have asked for better weather!
I shot a -6 the first round, and a -7 the second, for a 95 for the day! I took 3rd overall(out of 70) and scored an ACE on hole #4 in the second round!!!!! Bout time I get an ace on my home course.
I also told alot of people about DR DYE, and may be doing business with the Tourist very soon!!! By the end of the day I think everyone knew who DR DYE was! I spent a buttload of $ on plastic, and I am now broke as a joke! But I had no complaints!!
Oh, the clinic was awesome as well. Learned me a bunch. Got both Barrys signature and Brian Schweiburger(or however you spell it). Had them sign my putter, in hopes that it would bring on some good PRO chi, or zen or something like that. Well it worked for today anyway.
What a great time!!! Now I am pumped for next weekend!!! Assuming I can afford it.

Is the doubles thing going to be 'pro/am' or completely random?
If I wind up w/ a partner who's worse than I am I hope at least to get in a group with someone I can watch.... ;)

Yeah, but what good is that putter if you're going to throw aces?
Congrats to Pat who got me by one stroke; we finished 5-6 in the geriatric division (out of 13). I blew several putts but managed to keep my mangled drives down to a small handful and shot a bogey-free 2nd round for the 1st time ever in a tournament. Pat shot 50-50 and I had 52-49. I think the masters' winner shot 46-48, and the am winner had 46-47 or something.
One of the 3 first-round aces was in my group (#12) - unfortunately for this guy he refused to lay up on #8 in the 2nd round and wound up with a 6 from a very good drive.
Great weather and a good time. Thanks Paul, Shawn and everyone else at Parkside.

Could it be because the pro/adv in New Lenox was on Sunday, while Parkside's was on Saturday, so in that sense there wasn't a conflict?
I really hope it's not something like "Sunday's event at Parkside wasn't sanctioned"...
Shawn,
Do you know if the results will be posted on the UWP website?
Did the cost of the event go up after April 1?? I have a different sheet that shows different numbers. Intermediate Am was only $20, now it is $26?
Oops, you caught me. That's the game I've been playing. "stupifying underachiever". Setting everyone up for the big score. Yeah, that's the ticket. ;)
Already signed up, got my extra donation in, and I already requested to leave early next Friday, too!
I'm expecting Josh and Kyle to bring their "A" games to this event, because I think they are tired of getting whipped by me. :D
There have been muttered whisperings of mutilation and maiming should I manage to sqeak out a win over either of them, so, at the very least, it should be entertaining to watch!
Crap! I don't know if I can get there by 4:19!
Can someone sign me up if I don't make it? I'm leaving work about 3:00 tomorrow (rain or shine), but it's about an hour drive back to Parkside from here (Libertyville), so I should be ok...
