Title: Discs For Sale - With kickback to Discontinuum
Post by: stpitner on July 11, 2006, 10:12:28 AM
Hey everyone,

I've entered the mix of people that are selling plastic.  I only have Discraft in stock right now, but I'm just waiting on Innova to approve my account before I start ordering from them (and other places too).

Right now while I develop my website I have everything in my eBay store.  If you would like to purchase something, email me ahead of time and ask me to pull items off of eBay.  That will save me the 8% fee that eBay charges on all items sold in the store.  What I'll do is I'll take that 8% and donate it at the end of the month to Discontinuum.  When I make the contribution I'll include a list of all discs purchased to produce that amount.  That way you can verify that 8% did make it back to the club.  Unfortunately I will have to collect sales tax on Illinois residents (at the Carol Stream rate of 7.25%).

I probably could deliver the discs, but it's a lot easier to ship.  You could probably arrange to pick up discs before Lombard's Wednesday night leagues and maybe on the Sunday day of an IOS tournament.  I could also meet you at the Oak Brook course.

Check out the store at http://stores.ebay.com/Paper-or-Plastic-Sports

Make sure that when you email me that you heard about this offer on Discontinuum so that I know for sure that the 8% goes here.

Once the website is up and running I'll pursue a more permanent advertising here, but the site is not quite ready yet!

Thanks all :)
Scott

Well, since joining the club itself isn't really effective for me (it's hard enough to make it to a Sunday tournament let alone sunday leagues!), but since you guys have been so awesome here on the boards and everything was so great at IOS #2... it's the least I could do ;)  Plus, sales of discs = ability for more stock = better selection for everyone, and it makes my wife happier about my decision to start selling discs LOL.

Thanks :)

Joning the club would still be a great way to show support for the club. Especially if you like the things we do, IOS#2. It is only $16.00, I think. Not sure if that is the online price only. And you get a spiffey bag tag to boot. If you could some more players in your area to join, I think there are some already. Yall could play for tags. Its alot of fun.

O ??? >:D B) O0

I haven't joined for a number of reasons...  I'll run down the list of benefits that are shown on the webpage and explain why (in italics):

1. Bag Tag Challenge (Tags & Awards in 2006!)  - tags aren't all that big of a deal to me.  I'm an 842 rated player.  I wouldn't be picking up many higher # tags without having to ask for a mega-handicap.
2. Invite to PDGA Sanctioned Club Invitational that is free to play if you are a pdga member. $5.00 if not a PDGA member. (Date TBA). - this would be neat, if it was on a day that I could make it... which this year I can't.
3. Access to club member's only section on the message board.  - other than saying "hi, what's up" I don't think I'm missing out on too much.  Maybe I should join so that I can see how many posts there are in there about "we should get scott to join!"
4. $5.00 off a PDGA membership or renewal. (Must be a bundle of 10) - a nice feature
5. Free PDGA official's exam. ($10.00 Value) *Limited quantity. 1st come 1st serve - wouldn't use
6. Discounts on club merchandise.  - I buy direct for resale... so this wouldn't come in handy.
7. Discounts from SunKing Discs    www.sunkingdiscs.com  - see last comment
8. Club golf pencil included with Bag Tag - this is the best part! I love office supplies :)
9. CTPs and other prizes at tournaments only for Tag holders. - I don't remember seeing any of this at IOS #2

Waukegan is over an hour's drive for me one way, and it's already EXTREMELY tough to come out to any event that is on a Sunday morning.  I had to do some rearranging with someone else just so that I could go to IOS #4.  As much as I'd love to hang out with a cool group of guys, there's just not enough benefit that I could get from it.  Sure it would be an extra $15 for you guys, but it boils down to $5 off my next PDGA renewal and a pencil.  That's why I'd rather support Discontinuum through selling plastic (to this point no one has picked up anything yet)

So thanks for the invites, I do appreciate it, but for now there is very little benefit for me to join.

I guess I see joining clubs as a support and promotion of disc golf and not how I can benefit from the club. We do try to offer benefits though.  I know my financial investment helps that club do something they might not be able to do without my support such as websites, tournament supplies, bag tags, & other misc expenses.  I am a member of 5 clubs and have really nothing to benefit from 4 of them. I'm able to wear their t-shirt, put bag tag on my bag, or throw their club stamp disc to show my support & spread the word about their disc golf club and events. Last year Steve Rico asked me what my bag tag was for. He said ihe liked the leather tag.

thats cool Scott.  joining the club doesn't make sense for everybody and I wouldn't expect anybody to throw away 15 bucks just for the heck of it.  lord knows i can't afford to be doing that either!

and u certainly don't need to be a club member to come hang out and play casual or league rounds with any of us.

maybe next year we'll get you Scott!   :D

Very valid points Brett.  I'm at least throwing an IOS-stamped thumb grip z-surge ;)  Although lately my thumb has been sticking too much on the thumb grip causing the disc to have a really late release from my hand and going to no man's land... but boy does it get there in a hurry hehe.  I almost had a skip-ace with the same disc though, so go figure.

Actually, I was hoping that the 8% back to Discontinuum would be a more effective way to contribute back to the club.  All it takes is about 20 discs sold over the course of a year and there's $15.  Then you can even use the tag that I would have and give it to another player that would get more use out of it.

Not trying to fight you guys on saying that membership is good or bad... you're all cool, and I hope that I can be a continual contributor... in just my own goofy way!

lol, you know what I did?  I told myself to shut up, not get fast food for me and my wife one night, and use the $15 to join the club.  So I did.  I made it to bag tag 91 from 105, and that's probably as low as I'm going to get lol.  But you know what?  I think it's worth it to join (and meeting up with Dan and Brett is always cool).  Then I go and win the CTP for a Discontinuum members only hole.  Go figure lol.  Schlaak schooled me on the CTP for first choice on disc, but that's ok, that's why I play rec :)

I'm glad to be a member now :)

Thanks all for running an awesome club!

Scott

I think that CTP was the only decent shot I had all day, so I wouldnt be too worried about it.  I promptly handed the new disc to Greg, as payment for the Brewers dropping 3 out of 4 games to the cubs in the early July series.  So weak.
