Title: Courses In Puerto Vallarta?
Post by: WkeBrd3 on September 22, 2006, 01:48:35 PM
I'll be down there the first week of October. Does anyone know if there are any courses in the area?

If there are then they're private/secret courses...

went to PV once, I'll be glad to never go back IMO.... pretty much had to stay on resort, sand fleas sucked, the vendors pushing all sorts of cheap crap both on resort & in town also sucked.

there are two things I'd recommend going into town for - pipi's (good restaurant), and the casa del tequila. We still have the remnants of a bottle of tequila liqueur we brought home in 99 or 2000. goes down soooo good!

where ya staying?

Be wary of all the trips and excursions that are offered, too. I was offered hookers daily which was good enough for a laugh atleast. I did go on one trip that included snorkeling, horseback riding and and obviously a boat ride. It was a very fun trip.

As for courses, even if there are any I would not recommend going too far from base especially outside of a public area.

also be wary of unlicensed cab drivers... even the licensed ones are scary enough! don't get in the cab before agreeing on the rate.

Is that anywhere near Cabo San Lucas?  I don't know much about vacation destination geography.  I have a friend who vacations in Cabo and he says they have an object course they play.

funny, that is exactly where my wife & I stayed as well for the week we were in PV/NV.

Not much to do off resort, IMO. They'll cart in the same cheap souveniers you can find in town to the resort.

Mirth, you had to have gone to the No Name Cafe though, right?

dunno if it was around at the time.... unless you're referring to the hard rock?
only place I dared to eat/drink off resort was @ pipi's, and even though we were careful still ended up getting a stomach bug.

at the time there were 4 or 5 restaurants on resort for eating, one of the nicer more 'formal' places was where we were introduced to coconut shrimp.

are you doing the pay as you go or AI?

http://www.nonamecafe.net/ Cubs themed!

Pay as you go. We probably won't stay at the resort everyday. Do you remember how much it was a day?

don't remember prices as it was several years ago.... I just remember that the taxi rides to & from town were like near death experiences!

$30/person meals on resort feels about right, depending what you get. Be careful, though, as I recall your only option @ restaurants on resort is to bill to your room. Gets easy to rack up a big bill especially when getting drinks!

we were under the (false, at the time, dunno if changed) impression that you could opt to do AI for select days. remember making a stink at checkout when we were told that the policy was selective AI for the first x or last x days of your stay & we did it in the middle. they eventually gave it to us....

Yea, I've been told that you can do the AI for select days, which, for the days that we will be at the resort all day, will definately make sense.

Anything you recommend doing down there?

when we were there in '99 we arrived just as a weak hurricane was up by the baja. there for a week & the only days it didn't rain was our arrival & departure day.

tried doing a snorkling day trip but the water was really murky & that was when we both had the stomach bug so it wasn't really enjoyable.

You will most likely have a day trip representative at the resort you go to that can explain the different trips for you. They are a bit more expensive than the trips offered on the street, but these people are about as reputable as you can get when it comes to that sort of business. The prices they offer can be dropped down a bit too if you get a group to sign up together or if you give them an ultimatum on what you will pay. I did a one day tour that started on a boat called "The Princess" I believe it was. Boat ride, snorkeling, swimming at a really nice beach, and a horseback ride up a mountain to a huge waterfall. Whole day cost about $40 I think. Take a little extra for food and don't allow anyone else to take pictures of lizards with you or other animals as they will expect you to pay for them. It was a lot of fun though, especially the horseback riding part. The beach part was nice too because the beaches in Puerto Vallarta are not really that nice and not what you would expect for a tropical area. Pretty murky water, but the water is warm.
