Title: Streamwood Doubles 9/30/06
Post by: Mukey on October 02, 2006, 09:13:07 AM
Just an FYI:

Greg ?Gunther? and I played this one. He convinced me to play Pro as it was un-sanctioned & he felt we could win $. Only about 10-15 teams total, we had to convince some of the Esquivels to play Pro as everyone was in Rec & 0 in Adv. So, 3 teams played Pro at $60/team.

1st (NOT us) got paid $40 (total) and 2 free pizzas, for a $60 entry fee.
Those of us that played Pro basically paid for the porta-potty that day. He wasn't going to have one but a reporter was going to be there & had kept asking about facilities.

Unfortunately I didn't keep any of the info, but I know that this guy is doing another of these at Clark Park sometime in October because the flyer had all kinds of Halloween graphics. Greg was supposed to e-mail me this guy's info, but never did.  ???

Anyway, just a warning to anyone thinking about playing that event.

This was the TD's response on his Yahoo!Groups page:

Dear Ron and all of the "Deuces Wild" Players,

My deepest apologies go out to all of you for the
mishap/misconception on Saturday. Being my first big tournament and
all, this is a learning experience for me. This is the feedback
that I was hoping for. I take full responsibility for dropping the
ball at the end of the tournament and disappointing some of the
players. Michael and Marcos, I owe each of you $20 at the next
event. I didn't find out until Thursday that I had to get a
portable toilet for Saturday's event. The cost was $175 which I
should not have including in the cost of expenses from the
tournament.

Overall, I hope everyone had fun at the tournament, as I am hoping
to do the 2nd annual "Deuces Wild" Doubles tournament next year.

Now, getting to "Chains of Pain":

I want to make this clear to all of you. 3 teams are needed for
each division to unlock it. 1st place to the pro team will double
their money. I hope this will somewhat makeup for the learning
experience that I am going through.

I Thank You Ron Miller for letting me know how you and some of the
other players felt. This is the feedback I need to make future
tournaments successful, and hopeful keep a smiling face on you guys
when you leave at the end of the day.

Until the next event,

Take Care and Aim for the Chains!

Eric R. McCluskey

I am Deeply SORRY!

Ok, the TD of this event is further making amends & really seems like he is trying to do the right thing. I've contracted him & given my (hopefuilly constructive) criticism and seeing his response below my post, he really is trying to make these
fun & FAIR events. The fact that he is going to make amends speaks volumes, considering he could've just said f-it and went forward.

I look forward to playing Chains of Pain in a few weeks and hope no one is discouraged from coming out. Streamwood doubles was one of the most fun tourneys I've played this year and I hope to see everyone who was at Streamwood at Clark Park in a few weeks.

From Eric:

All,

I have been given the feedback I need to hopefully right the wrong
that I have caused with some of you. It has been stated in a few e-
mails that I emphasized "Winner Takes All" in the Pro Division
at "Deuces Wild" on Saturday, September 30, 2006.

With that being said, $40 was paid to the 1st Place Pro Team
(Michael and Marcos Esquivel) at the awards ceremony at Shady Oaks
Park on Saturday, September 30th, 2006. Therefore, I owe $140
dollars to them and it will be paid at "Chains of Pain" on October
28, 2006. For those of you that want to witness the correction to
payout, it will be made during the announcement before the 1st round
in the "Chains Of Pain" Doubles Tournament.

ONE FINAL NOTE, AND I WILL NO LONGER BE BRINGING UP THIS PROBLEM,
HOPING THAT SOME OF YOU CAN AND WILL FORGIVE ME, AND WE CAN ALL GET
PAST THIS.................

Payouts for the PRO DIVISION at "CHAINS OF PAIN" are as follows:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Teams will collect. 1ST PLACE WILL RECEIVE
A GUARANTEED $100.

I didn't play this event, but Eric appears to be an honest guy based on what I've read in this forum.  He wasn't very diligent, but was quick to make corrections and appologies.

Sounds like he's even correcting his errors using his own money.  I think he's learned from his mistakes and will run better events as a result.

I did not play the event either.  However, I have played with Eric at a few tournaments this year and he is a good guy.  Eric is relatively new to the sport and excited and getting involved. Great. That said, it looks like he made a rookie mistake and was man enough to deal with it. I suspect he will get better with each event he runs. I will be out of town the 28th or I would give him a chance.  Of course, all he needs to do is read this fourm more often.  If so, he would have seen the issue of the port o pots at Streamwood raised.  If I recall, this was an issue that IOS was considering when figuring out where to play this year.

Perhaps someone with some TD experience can send him a sample payout setup to help alleviate problems like this in the future?
