The way I recall the discussion at the meeting, the $1 or $2 fee is more of an administrative cost...

It could be for someone who shows up on a Sunday morning but doesn't want to compete in the league for overall standings or wants to maybe get their feet wet with competitive disc golf. Or perhaps they just don't have the $6 to get in.

If you want to be eligable for EOL prizes, then you should be able to come up with the $6. If you just want to play along & see what best shot is all about, then $2 gets you on a card & with a partner.

That's really why this new rule was motioned, seconded, and passed - Primarily for newcomers and also to cover situations where a league regular shows, doesn't have the cash to cover the $6, and can't get the difference for whatever reason. This way we can offer an alternative to them so they can play and not just have to go home or whatever, albeit they are penalized for not being prepared.

I see how the trophy only option works well for a tournament, but not for a series-based event like a league.

How often are we going to have to enforce this new rule? Hopefully not often in the case of a league regular, but I'd hope that we DO get disc golf and/or league newbies out more often...

Also, and this is really digging deep, wasn't $1 of the $2 supposed to go into the ace fund or weekly CTP cash & the other went toward EOL like everybody else's buck?

So I have all the paperwork & schedule ready to go for Fall League 2003. The question is how many holes do we want to play each week? 18, 20, 22, or 24.

We are intending on playing the 9th basket. Hopefully the collar will be ready to move the basket in case soccer is still going on.

Attached is the information about the 2003 FALL LEAGUE. It has been corrected.

Fall League starts September 21st

13 weeks @ Bevier

Start time is 10:00AM

End of League Prizes will be HUGE. $ was donated from an unknown source. We have yet to determine the exact prizes but the talk was a Skillshot to first place. I'll keep you posted.

The $2.00 Option was discussed at the meeting today. Players can pay $2.00 to participate. They can collect weekly points & win overall prizes. They however do not win daily cash prizes. Anyone partnered with a $2.00 Option player that finishes in a daily payout position, they will receive the full payout amount.

I don't really see a lot of people playing the $2 option.  I mean, for a while we had a $1 option and almost no one used it.  We all wanna play for money and prizes, so we usually do.  If someone wants to play for $2, that's fine.
Title: FALL LEAGUE 2003
Post by: Myk on September 05, 2003, 10:50:04 AM
Now that I realize that it's already been discussed by the club officers and was already voted on, it should stand.  How do we know we need to change it?  It hasn't even been used yet.
Title: FALL LEAGUE 2003

Ah...

Under the old $1 rule, the person didn't get points either.  I assumed that this new $2 rule would be the same.  Points shouldn't be calculated for a $2 guy because what if someone decides to pay $2 each week instead of paying the full fee, and that person makes 1st place in points at the end.  Do they get the prizes and such associated with it?  I should hope not.  I mean, they really didn't payin for those prizes either.  So if they don't win prizes, why keep track of their points?

Since the $2 dollar option has been started for this league, I propose that we track points for those that opt for the $2 option as well as have them eligible for overall. Since they would be contributing more to those than anyone else ($2 vs. $1 for a cash player) it is only fair that they be included in those as well.

I didn't realize that meant it couldn't be changed in the future...

If someone is paying twice as much to the club as someone  else, that person is entitled to be in for the same stuff the half price person is paying. Plus, they are playing for the club. If that person gets into the money, the club gets their payout. We will never have half the field using this option. At most it will be an occasional person up to maybe a couple. For someone who doesn't want to gamble, this is a great option. For someone who is short on cash for the week, the same. I don't understand why we would want to penalize someone who is paying to the club twice what the cash players are paying plus they are playing for the club. Explain it to me, and then I'll shut up about it. :)

I think since the rule hasn't taken effect yet, that this is the appropriate time to discuss tweaks of the rule.

I really don't understand this. I was in favor of the rule. I still am in favor of the rule. This doesn't change the rule. All I am saying is that someone who pays for something should get the same thing that anyone else is paying for. We voted that someone would have the option of paying $2 instead of the full fee and they wouldn't be eligible for payout. Makes sense since they didn't payin for the payout. All I'm saying is that they ARE paying for their points to be calculated and for overalls, so they should be eligible for points and overalls. THIS part was NOT discussed at the meeting, unless I was inside grabbing a slice of pizza at the time. But again, I'm not asking for the rule to be changed at all.

People who play league, pay $1 that goes toward overall prizes. If someone takes the $2 option, those $2 goes to overalls. Not only are they paying for overalls, they're paying twice as much. It is only right that they get points and a chance to win overalls. Now the reality is that anyone who is taking the $2 option is probably not going to do well enough to win overalls, but they deserve to have a shot at what they are paying for.

I think $2 players should have their points tracked too.  Look at it this way:  if everyone played the $2 option, the league would make about $24 per week and $264 over a twelve week league.  That pays for overalls.  There is no downside to letting $2 players in for points and overalls.

NEW RULE-]You may pay $2.00 to participate. You will not collect any winnings if you finish in a payout position, CTP, or ACE Pool. You do not collect league points as well.

Call me greedy, cause I am. But if half the field on a given league day plays the $2 opion and I should happen to stumble into a finish that pays in cash and I only get 1/2 of what I would have had everyone payed up in full I am not a happy disc golfer. Sorry, but I am playing leagues for the $$$$ or prizes, not the groupies. ( I can't imagine there actually are disc goupies but I suppose there could be).

If a person wants to play along for $2 fine play along. But they only play along. No points, no payout.   They pay just so they can play along with other disc golfers. That's the way the rule is written.

Just my $.02.

It just seems to me that the rule was discussed, voted on and passed by opperations commitee, club officers or who ever did vote on it (John were you there). Now before it even takes effect some want to change it. Give the rule that was worked out a chance, see if it makes any difference in league attendance,  before it is changed.

I doubt that 1/2 the player on any given Sunday will opt for the $2 plan either. Just like I doubt that all of them will take the $2 option and the club will make a killing as Bruce stated in his post.

But if it should happen I would then have to decide if it is worth my time and gas to get to leagues and possibly not win enough to pay my expences occationally. Then the club is out a dollar a week.

I think 20 is really long enough for a doubles round; seems like we used to finish around noon or 12:15 and now it's usually closer to 1, though that'll get pushed back with the earlier start I guess.

Dan,
Our leagues have grown slowly over the past few years. The point system has worked pretty good. I won by 1 point this summer & it has been very close every league since we've adopted this new points system. We've averaged around 11 players per day over the past year. Hopefully we'll continue to grow. This point system also rewards those who attend often. Thanks for attending!

Some huge payouts went out during the Fall League ($710.00). 2 Aces Hit($125.00) & ($127.00) in Cash CTP's. There were also several CTP's for discs. Over $975.00 paid out during a 13 week Fall League.

For those of you that have never played DISContinuum Leagues, come on out. We have some of the most organized leagues in the states. If you like consistency, we have averaged around 12 players per week during 2003.
