I think it sounds like alot of fun!  However, Springfield is like 4 hours from here.  Thats quite a haul for a putting competition.  By February I might be desperate enough to come down though :)

UPDATED:

The Springfield Disc Golf Club is having an event on February 3, 2007.

It will be the Inaugural Prairieland Putting Put-Down.

It will be two rounds in Lincoln Park followed by an indoor Putting
Tournament at the State Fairgrounds.

At Lincoln Park:

We will begin with a Doubles Tourney using the "Ice Bowl" format - we will be collecting canned goods for local charity.

We will follow that with a quick round of 200' feet and in for a warm up for the Putting Tourney...

We will then move to the State Fairgrounds:

Food
Bracket Tourney w/ 40% payout to First Place
Cut Throat
"Skee-Ball"
Longest Putt

What is "Skee-Ball"? Skee-Ball with be three temp baskets set up 20' [10 pts] - 40' [20 pts] - 60' [50 pts] away with 10 putters - Highest Recorded Score wins - tie will be decided by a putt-off...

We will have a room available for sponsors to show and hawk their wares...

The Total Cost of the Package is $35.00 and Five Canned Goods per Participant

What's in the Player's Pack?

We will be using the GDSTour White Package - 3 disc player's pack
and the following...

Entry fee for one in an "Ice Bowl" Doubles Tourney – for trophies and prizes
Entry fee for one in a 200'-and-In Ace Run Circuit –
Your $1.00 entry in the Event Ace Pot is included in the Package*
A Ten Dollar Bracket Ticket – for your shot at the 40% Cash Pot Prize
3 Cut-throat Tickets. – You vs. Nine Others for Custom Stamp Wizards
Food.

We want to have a bracketed tournament with winner getting 40% of the Ten
Dollar Fee - additional cash prizes will go down farther in the standings.

I'll do some quick math for you – If 100 participants show up, the winner gets $400.00. How far the cash prizes go down the bracket depends on how many folks show up... More Players, more payouts...

It will be one on one:

Each "putter" flips his disc - first one who is "heads" gets to pick the
first place to put from. If he makes it and his opponent misses, he has
got to make it again. If he does his opponent is eliminated and he moves
on to the next round. It alternates back and forth until there is a
winner.

While the Bracket is running - we will be having games of cut-throat.
$1.00 Cut-Throat ticket to enter against 9 other "putters". The winner of
the cut-throat game gets the Ten Cut-throat tickets/dollars and can trade
them in for a Custom Stamped Wizard.

Three tickets will be part of the package but more can be bought
if the player wants to play more.

We will also be playing Skee-Ball. What is "Skee-Ball"? There will be three temp baskets set up 20' [10 pts] - 40' [20 pts] - 60' [50 pts] away with 10 putters - Highest Recorded Score wins the prize - tie will be decided by a putt-off...

We will also have longest putt contest for prizes, as well.

First do you think there would be any interest from guys in your neck of
the woods on coming on down? We are looking for anchor sponsors from the various surrounding areas.

Send us your best putters...

We want to crown a PrairieLand Putting Champion.

We are trying to find out if there is any interest from the Quad Cities,
ChicagoLand, Champaign, Decatur, Peoria, and St. Louis Area.

Would you guys be interested, if so – we are looking for a headcount – just email me at jwt4412@yahoo.com?

Any questions? Just email me. So let's review; for $35.00 you get fed, you get three discs, you get an Ice Bowl for trophies, you get an Ace Run, you get pick up cut throat games, and you get a chance at a 40% Pot Cash Prize and you might get your mug on DiscGolfTV.com – but most of all you GET Bragging Rights!

*if you want in on our club progressive Ace Pot, you got to be a member [$15.00] – Forms will be available at the event. Bag Tags are also available and the Bag Tag event concludes at our Capital City Challenge event later in the year.

Sponsorships are available - we are especially looking for prizes for the "Skee-Ball" and the Longest Putt. Two of the manufacturers are already on board and DiscGolfTV.com has expressed interest on attending and doing a segment for the their website...

JWT - ya beat me to it - congrats.

Dan - it's a 2 round tournament of 36 holes with a putting "indoor" competition in the evening..

1st round shud be original layout , then the 2nd round will be a shorter version where you should be able to drive with your putter (and putt with your driver if u want)

then the evening games will be putt putt putt competitions!

I just wanted to thank everybody for their initial interest...

And for those who were asking...

No we are not kidding... they way the math works on the Bracket - If 100 people show up the winner gets $400.00 - You would be playing for 40% of the 10.00 Bracket Ticket for first place - there will be additional cash prizes.

Just wanted to thank the Guys from the Peoria Disc Golf Club for the Sponsorship and the Six Putters Donated as Prizes...

You fellas up north gonna come down and show us folks south of I-80 how it is done?

http://www.discgolfclub.org

Ever seen a Four Hundred Dollar Bill? Me neither... but if you beat 99 other putters, I'll hand you four crisp One Hundred Dollar Bills or a bunch of crumpled up ones -- they will spend just the same...  ;)

Three of the Four Corners are gonna meet in the middle to crown the putting champion - anybody from up north gonna come a knockin'?

What else you gonna do on a Saturday in February?  Match socks?

Any chance your mother is gonna pay you $400.00 to match socks?

It is official...

We got a $50.00 per night rate at the Microtel available both Friday and Saturday night.

Even better the VP of Marketing will be comping one [1] room each night on his personal AMEX card from the pool of those players registered in the hotel... So there is a chance your room could be free...

He will be at the event so you can thank him personally, I know I will.

Instructions on how to get the rate will be posted on the pre-registration page at the website which should be up and running by the weekend.

EDITED FOR CLARITY...

Wait I don't understand...did you mean comping "one" room each night? I think that's what you mean and that makes a lot more sense. Very cool either way!

OK that makes more sense. The original post regarding the hotels was a little fuzzy to me. Sounds like the event is picking up steam and should be fun. I'll have to keep it in my calendar.

Ziggy is correct...

By the way, prizes available include Gorilla Boy Disc Golf Bags and DGA Portable Baskets... and much... much... much... more...

We will have a Fly-Mart set up for the sponsoring vendors... private parties could do some trades... if you want to be able to do some selling in the Fly-Mart - send me an email and we can discuss your options...

There will be a conference room available to the Disc Golfers both nights Friday and Saturday - Maybe a couple of poker games - I would guess....

I'll try and get as much of the registration stuff out of the Way on Friday night - if the Hotel gets used...

Preregistration will begin at 8:15am officially and the Doubles Tourney begins at 10:00am

We tried out the facilities tonight and Both Tree and Smurphy hit putts from 90+ feet.

We did some mock Bracket rounds - SouthPaw beet Smurphy in 28 seconds and then Round TWO took almost 5 minutes.

Some CRAZY Long Putts!!!

We took some pics for the DiscGolfTV.com ad so that ad should be up and running pretty soon.

Peoria Frisbee Club has been generous enough to loan us an additional 4 portable baskets so we will have plenty for the event.

Best news of all? - the building we are in has a pop machine that still only charges 50 cents - That's worth the drive all by itself...

So this is a BYOP doubles round first then?  Also on the Ace run round is it just one shot per hole or more?
Title: Re: 1st annual Prairie Putting Put-Down
Post by: Cannon Boy on January 09, 2007, 03:26:42 AM
two more questions.

two part queston:
What do you get if you win the doubles?  How much of your entry fee goes to the doubles round?

Three part question:
Is there a point system for the ace race?  Is an ace the only thing that matters, or do you get something for getting metal?  How much money out of your entry fee goes to the ace race round?

this whole prarie putting thing is confusing payout wise.
Title: Re: 1st annual Prairie Putting Put-Down

QuoteSo this is a BYOP doubles round first then?  Also on the Ace run round is it just one shot per hole or more?

We will honor partner requests, but we expect most people to have to be paired up for the event.  The Ace Run is just one shot per hole, there will be added temp holes in a layout designed by Ziggy for this portion of the event.

Quotetwo part queston:
What do you get if you win the doubles?  How much of your entry fee goes to the doubles round?

You and your partner will win an IceBowl BagTag saying you won the Doubles portion of the event in your division and some prizes provided by our sponsors.  The Doubles Portion of the event is a GDStour.com event – we will be using the White Package for the event and Gateway will be providing $300.00 worth of prizes for the event.  If you wanted to breakdown the $35.00 it would go like this:

$20.00 for the 3 disc, plus some goodies, player's pack
$10.00 for the Putting Bracket for the 40% cash first prize
$3.00 for the three Knock-Out Tickets for your chance to win a new custom stamped wizard.
$1.00 for the Event Ace Pot for Prizes – including Gorilla Boy Bags
$1.00 for food – chilli being provided by the Rib Shack

So if you think about it none of the entry fee goes to the doubles round...

QuoteThree part question:
Is there a point system for the ace race?  Is an ace the only thing that matters, or do you get something for getting metal?  How much money out of your entry fee goes to the ace race round?

Most Aces, if none Most Metal.  We are going to keep track of the time of the Aces for tiebreakers... Cuz just like at leagues... he who is first... WINS.  We have MUCHO Prizes for Aces - Of course, some or better than others - and which prizes are better is a matter of personal opinion.  None of your entry fee goes to the Ace Round – It is being sponsored by Iron Lion out of Moline.  In addition to the Aces and Metal there will be some CTPs in the Ace Run... and of course there will be CTPs in the Doubles Round.

Quotethis whole prarie putting thing is confusing payout wise.

How so?  If you win the single elimination indoor putting tournament – you get 40% of the CASH pot.

So if 100 people come and you win the bracket tourney, you get $400.00

Come in second? You get $200.00
Come in third? You get $100.00
Come in fourth? You get $50.00
Come in fifth? You get $25.00

Highest placed woman? You get $25.00 or the same percentage as fifth depending on the # of entries
Highest placed amateur? You get $25.00 or the same percentage as fifth...

All other events are prizes to include:  An Innova Traveler's Target, DGA Mach Lites and Gorilla Boy DiscSports Disc Golf Bags and a three disc players pack... all for $35.00

If you want into our leagues progressive Ace Pot for a chance at more cash money... then you join our club and if you join the Springfield Disc Golf Club at the same time you pay for the PrairieLand we will give you $3.00 off the membership.  And to top it off your $12.00, instead of the normal $15.00, membership would include either a t-shirt or $6.00 credit towards anything in our club's inventory...

All this is available to you... if you come down to Springfield with 5 cans of food for the St. John's Breadline on Feb. 3, 2007.

Any other questions, just let me know...
Title: Re: 1st annual Prairie Putting Put-Down

And most importantly...

You come down to the event and you win the Putting Bracket... you get to say, "I took on all comers, from in and out of the state, and I am the Best Damn Putter in Illinois!"

Braggin' Rights... earned not bought and I am pretty damn sure your winning putt is going to be caught on digital and streamed on DiscGolfTV.com for everybody to see, since the DGTV Reporter is bringing a camcorder crew of around 5 guys and DGTV wants footage from participants... as long as it digital.  There will be an email given out to send digital footage take on the way, during and after the Prairieland to be reviewed and added to the DGTV report/video of the event to be played on DiscGolfTV.com.

I'll work on that... ;)

Glad to hear you might be coming.

It really should be a good time.  The rate is good for any size room so - if four guys came down and crashed that would be 12.50 plus taxes for each guy to stay in hotel and not sleep on somebody's couch or in the car in February...

We have tried to keep the cost down as much as possible and have as much as possible to do to make the trip worth it for everybody...

We've got confirmed people coming from Southern Iowa, Central Wisconsin, Michigan, and the Quad Cities... it would nice to seem some folks registered from Chicagoland...

What is cool is that looking at the pre-registry we have people signed up in all 4 divisions now...

It is all good.

To get the $50.00 room rate, you have to click on the Microtel logo at http://www.discgolfclub.org

The normal rate for these rooms is $79.00 a night and remember you get a chance to have either your Friday night or Saturday night compt by the VP of Marketing for Microtel.  One room each night will be free from the registered disc golfing guests at the hotel.

There will also be a meeting room set up for our event at the hotel for disc golf guests...

One option I thought about after getting the Springfield Tourism materials from the Capital City Challenge is that you can take the train down to springfield from Chicago for $17 and it's only 3 hours via train. Of course, you'd have to know someone with a car there or get a rental to get around after that.

$17 is one way..

the train stops in Union Station, Summit, Joliet, Dwight, Pontiac, Bloomington, Lincoln, Springfield.

Lest not forget the metro and the EL towards Union Station. If you need help - give me your address and i will tell you how travel is possible via public transportation.

Downtown Springfield is.. (guessing here)

1-2 miles to douglas park.
4-6 miles to Lincoln park.
10 miles to microtel motel.

I will probably just drive, it will be pretty much the same cost if I travel with at least one other person.  I think driving might be a little quicker as well.

Don't forget to factor in the speeding tickets for driving in your total cost too ;)

To get a ticket it requires you to be first caught then convicted, unless you are suspected of terrorism.  Then its OK for the government to not give you a trial and torture you.

The room rate is available by clicking on the Microtel logo from our website at http://discgolfclub.org -

It is a non-smoking hotel... man that is harsh... I know but it is the same rate for the room if one or more people are in the room. 50/4 = 12.50 plus taxes...

The calls, emails and registrations started rolling in today... looking forward to a fun event.

Dam wanted to hit this one up, had work last night and just woke up.  I don't think I could make it in two hours with snow on the roads.  Good luck all.
