Title: Innova Star MAX
Post by: stpitner on November 17, 2006, 06:21:26 PM
So Innova is hyping a new disc - the Innova Star Max, on their front page ... innovadiscs.com.  I know I've heard this disc's name tossed around before, has anyone seen it already and had a chance to throw it?  What do you think, will they note it as "Speed 12"?  If it's as about as stable as the Wraith yet can get more D, I can see how this disc would immediately cause the Wraith to be replaced in many bags.  Perhaps it's still Speed 11, but more overstable than the TeeRex.  Interesting to speculate!

I think the disc will be useful mainly only to players with young gun power.  I thought I saw Dave saying that it was a disc that would be stable for players who are throwing over 400 feet.  This is not to say that a lot of noodle arm players won't buy them.  I see noodle arm players [hey, I'm one so I can say "noodle arm"] buying a lot of stuff that won't help their game much.

Last I heard the Max was a faster Firebird...probably still speed 11 but more overstable than the T-rex

I have been throwing mine for a month or so now, since they came out and am not a fan.  I don't consider myself a huge arm, but throw mostly overstable stuff (Firebirds and Eagles for my main drivers).  It is like a Firebird but for me it has less glide and doesn't go a whole lot farther.  It is much shorter than my rex or wraith, even if I get a good "s" out of it.  It is great into a stiff headwind, but I would prefer a firebird for the situation.  I think t-rexes are too unpredictable and flippy, but the max is too beefy.  A nice compromise would be perfect.  Maybe I just got an unusual one too.
