It may be a little early to start planning for a May tournament, but it's gonna be a good one AND it falls on Mother's Day weekend. I personally am doing a lot more laundry & dishes, and buying flowers a few times a month to get my wife to let me go!!
I'm happy to anounce the 2007 River Cities Rumble will be held as an A-Tier (Super Tour) event on May 12-13, 2007. This is Mother's Day and we're going to look into getting some special player packages for players to take home for their mothers (not sure what, though).
This event will be held on three courses:
Middle Park - Bettendorf, Iowa
Eastern Avenue Park - Davenport, Iowa
West Lake Park - Davenport, Iowa
There will be three pools limited to 72 players each. Pros, Advanced, and "other". I apologize about the small numbers allowed, but we ran into time constraints last year, and I won't let that happen again. This set-up allows 4-somes on the 18-hole courses and 3-somes on the 24-hole course.
As this is a PDGA Super Tour event, you will be REQUIRED to be a current PDGA member to participate in this event. No exceptions are allowed. So if your membership has lapsed, get it in again.
Pre-registration will be required.
The River Cities Reader (our title sponsor) and I are working on creating a webspace for this event with details on everything surrounding this event. So keep your eyes peeled for this. We'll announce it when it is up and running.
I am currently looking for volunteers to help out with this event. And specifically from our out of town players and non-PDGA folks. My highest priority is going to be finding three qualified course Tournament Directors and three non-playing officials (I need one at each course). I have had a number of people step up and offer help, but the Mother's day weekend, may cause some constraints for some. If you are able to help, even if it's for ONE ROUND, please let me know. I'll be rounding up spotters and helpers from our local pool of cheap... I mean non-PDGA golfers. If you are an out-of-town experienced tournament director (Des Moines, Peoria, Joilet, Wisconsin, etc.), and are able to help out, we are looking at providing you hotel rooms and meals if possible. We're still waiting to figure out sponsor money and tourney budget.
Disappointing to see such a big event on such a big weekend. I've heard great things about the courses down there so I hope to be able to get down there at some point.
Chad Eng did his best to get another weekend, but that was the only option the PDGA gave him if he wanted an A-tier.
Middle & West Park are awesome. If you can't make it to the tourney, plan a road trip (once West Park is finally in the ground), you won't be disappointed.

Middle Park is new, right? how is it? We're going out there Thurs & Fri but I'll probably only have time for Prospect and maybe Longview.
Middle Park was installed on Labor Day and doesn't have tee signs yet. I visit my family in Davenport 5-10 times a year, and I'll probably be playing Middle every time I go. It's got length, elevation, wooded holes. I highly recommend it, definitely over Longview and even Prospect, it's only about 10-15 away from those two courses.

Despite the delay in getting the River Cities Rumble web site up & running, there is a printable registration form available: http://www.rcrumble.com/docs/07RCRumbleReg.pdf
The web site will (some day) have online registration with paypal, but I'm sending in my form & check tomorrow. Please note: Only Pros & Advanced will get to play West Lake Park, so Intermediates & Advanced Masters may want to move up for this tourney.
didn't get a chance to play this one last year. This year will be a different story.
The site is now up and running, and we'll be adding more and more "stuff" to it in the future. But, online registration is available as we've taken in a few already. Rockford - QC, just under 2 hours. Chicago - QC, vicinity of 2-3 hours...and well worth the trip. Hope to see many of you there.

Sweet, the only time I will have my name mentioned in the same sentence as Chris and Jay.
and make sure to stop by and say hello to me with Paper or Plastic Sports vending at Middle Park! It should be a GREAT weekend! All of the divisions will play Middle Park at some point in time, and then I'm going to tear everything down and set it all back up again at West Lake Park when the final ceremonies take place. That's when all of the advanced people who get the voucher money know where to go spend it ;)
Scott
Jose, Dan, Rocky, Doug, Kenny, Dave K, & Ray, I will be collecting bag tags on Saturday morning. Look for me at the players meeting at Eastern Avenue Park.
Still 6 Adv spots left!
and all of you that cash better be stopping by my booth lol :) (i'm starting to sound like a broken record). They are reimbursing me 100% on the voucher money, and I figure a lot of the local guys will buy stuff from the local people. I should have 1000 discs out there this weekend with a mix of Innova/Discraft/Gateway/Quest.
I have some of the new competition bags as well, $50. I have 1 black, 2 blue, and 1 red one left.

Tyler- you still got my tag. Please bring it to lombard if youre going.
Here is a link that shows you a couple maps of West Lake. One is just a satellite image with the holes inprinted. The other is an overview that gives you a little better "feel" to the landscape.
I hope all that came out this weekend enjoyed it, and I hope ya'all get a chance to come out an play it. Its a different sort of course, and well worth the experience. Its really hard to adjust to a course that makes you throw 4's and 5's and be happy with the result.
