Title: Message board software upgrade tonight
Post by: mirth on December 04, 2006, 02:21:14 PM
Going to be applying the latest version of the message board software this evening.
Not sure exactly when, but I'd expect it to be sometime around or after 10PM.
Upgrade will be 30-60 minutes.

The new message board sucks.   :o

Sorry.  Could not help myself.  Not actually seeing what's new.   8)

The only difference I see is the lack of a bold line between pinned and normal topics.

and a bunch of spam showing up.

The only other thing I notice is Dan's signature is blacked out (in red) for me.

I like being able to search a seemingly unlimited number of recent posts rather than the last 10.

On my PDA I get a very vanilla looking board that does not show the last post or poster for a thread and doesn't show all of the controls. It just shows the different boards such as "Leagues and Tourneys" but nothing else. The indivdiual posts do not show graphics or signatures.  It takes more looking around to find anything.  However, the color contrast is much better on the PDA than before.  Its weird because on the PC it looks and feels pretty much the same.

Is there some kind of "PDA friendly" mode kicking in? Some people with PDAs want less stuff on the page when viewing because of bandwidth issues and display size issues.

You might want to check to make sure the Yahoo Messenger icon is still there or named properly, that picture looks to be broken.

David - it also looks like your sig might have been previously taking advantage of a bug that is now fixed with the link to your email.

you probably have to do it like this:

dbarish@kfeej.com

I tested this, and it will give you a red text link, but the underline under the link seems to be black.  Not sure if that's what yours looked like before or not.

It comes out looking like this:
dbarish@kfeej.com (dbarish@kfeej.com)

I'll have to do some more surfing around and see what else I see :)

I see the correct YIM icons... can you give me some specifics?

david - yeah I believe there is an automatic browser detect going on which is why you're getting the lite version of the board from your treo.

Hmm, I think my work is blocking that link because it returns back dynamic content (the logo based on if you are signed in or not).  So it's just me :(  Carry on.

Ok, here's something legit: I can't change the message icon in a post.  Either start a new thread or click reply and look at the drop down for the Message icon box.  It only gives you "Current Icon".  usually it includes exclamation, smiley, etc etc.

Not no more! I also fixed your announcement post. Congrats! We were hoping for 03/04/05 for our daughter but it ended up being 3/9.

I tried that initially, but instead of side by side they go on top of each other & makes the user welcome area (that box) look huge & not very visually appealing.

Having two banners like that will end up making a lot of users scroll down to see anything on the forum pages here. It could work if you use a different Adsense option up top, like the one with just a horizontal set of 4 links and no descriptions.

Is there any way to have the latest message be the first you see rarther than the last?

meaning reverse sort order in threads? maybe... but wouldn't following conversations be difficult if you always saw the most recent reply versus the whole discussion?

there is an option inside your prefs, look & layout, where you can have most recent replies on top.
