Title: Renny -- Charlotte, North Carolina
Post by: Bruce Brakel on December 21, 2006, 03:28:01 PM
Renny [short for that unspellable European time period of great artistic acheivement] is as good as they say it is.  We played it Monday morning before driving down to Rock Hill to hand select our next Innova order.  We ran out of adjectives to describe the course somewhere around the 13th or 14th hole.  Then we just said awesome over and over.  If you get down to Charlotte play Renny.  We played the original course.  That was tough enough and fun enough.

Are you going to play any of the Charleston (SC) courses?

We wound up playing Renny, Hornets Nest and Reedy in Charlotte.  Reedy was set up in the original configuration and it is a delightful technical course in the woods.  We were playing short tees and after seven holes Kira and Kelsey were both beating me at -1 to my even.  The longs would be more appropriate for someone at my skill level and long tees to long baskets would be a really great course.  I threw five or six lefty drives at Reedy.  Lots of balance.  Lots of elevation change.

In Florida we looked at North Fort Myers Beach, but the park was heavily vandalized and the course looked seriously nasty with sawtooth palmetto everywhere.  The guys in Sarasota agreed that skipping that course was wise.  The Sarasota course was pretty but somewhat disappointing.  The course designer did not have any elevation to work with, but that is no excuse for designing a course with about 12 righty hyzer 270 foot holes.

The courses we played wound up depending on where we were when it was day and not raining, except we played Reedy in the rain.  If you get down that way, Renny, Reedy and Hornets Nest are worth the stop.  Renny and Reedy especially are as good as any courses you've ever played.
