TROPHY ONLYWhat is trophy only? You may pay the trophy only entry fee and play the event. You are playing for a trophy only. If you finish in a position that is awarded a trophy you get the trophy. You do not get a payout if you finish in a prize/cash finishing position.
Why play trophy only? You may play trophy only for several reasons.
1. Tired of not having a chance to finish in a cashing spot at events? Save a few bucks and play trophy only.
2. Want to test the field and move up a division without paying the full fee? Save a few bucks and play trophy only.
3. Want a lesson from a professional player? Play pro trophy only for $10.00 and watch and play with the pros.
4. Want to try to hit an ace when the ace pool rolls over & it's $750.00? Intermediate, Rec, and Juniors, move up and play trophy only advanced or pro and you get that opportunity.
Do I get a player pack when I play trophy only?If you are playing in an amateur division you get a player pack. If you are playing in a pro division you do not get a player pack.
Along with the player pack you also get a chance to shoot for any CTP on the course.
Can I win CTP's?Yes, you can participate in all the CTP's that are offered to your division.
___________________________________________________________________
AM IVNew this year we are offering Am IV. Am IV is not a PDGA sanctioned division. Am IV is an opportunity for PDGA members rated less than 835 to compete against other PDGA members rated less than 835. For PDGA purposes, Am IV players will be playing trophy-only in the Recreational division with an upcharge to cover prizes. There will also be an Am IV plaque or trophy disc for tournaments where there are Am IVs pre-registered sufficiently in advance to prepare a plaque or trophy disc.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
SERIES POINTSThis series is set up for fun and competition. Overall champions win a trophy and bragging rights. If you play any day of the 2007 Illinois Open Series you are automatically entered into the series. It costs no extra fee to enter the series. There will be no deductions from tournament payouts to pay for overall series champion trophies. See trophy payouts below.
Points only count in the division in which they are earned. For example, if Bruce plays Advanced at the first event and receives 12 points then plays advanced masters at the next event and earns 12 points, he does not have a total of 24 points. He would have 12 points in advanced and 12 points in advanced masters.
Participants will be awarded one point for each tournament entered and one point for each player they beat in their division.
A player who DNFs (Does Not Finish), will receive 0 (zero) points for that tournament.
Overall points will be calculated from best 4 of 6 events.
Any ties for first place at the end of the series will result in a sudden death playoff at the Fairfield Fairwell. A player who is tied for first but is not present automatically loses the playoff.
OVERALL SERIES TROPHIES
In 2007, some of the larger divisions will have overall series champion trophies for places 1st thru 3rd or 1st thru 5th. These are noted below.

SERIES ACE POOLAce Pool is open all day.
Multiple aces are split.
All ace pools that are not hit will rollover to the next day or event.
We may cap the ace as it grows during the year.
If there is money remaining at the end of the series that money will be rolled over to 2008.
____________________________________________________________________
BRASS CASHBrass Cash is brass funny money.
Brass Cash is handed out at events to amateur players as their player pack.
Brass Cash is used to payout all amateur division winnings.
Brass cash is used to purchase any item from the merchandise table.
Brass Cash may be spent that day or saved to spend at any other Illinois Open Series event.
If there is merchandise that you want but is not on the table, talk to Bruce Brakel and he will try to accommodate your disc golf addiction. Bruce can get pretty much anything you would want. You can arrange to pick it up at the next event. We want you to walk away from our events with merchandise you want.
____________________________________________________________________
PAYOUTSPDGA charts will be followed for payouts to all divisions.
Brass Cash is paid out to all amateur divisions except Juniors. Juniors get a
$15.00 player pack and play for a trophy only.
All Pro's play for cash.
Payout Policy: Cash and prizes, including CTPs, not claimed during the awards
ceremony are donated to the tournament process, unless other arrangements have been made with the TD that day.
Event trophies are hand made. They are quite simplistic and represent what place you finish if you win one. This is done to keep the payouts fatter instead of purchasing more expensive trophies that are just as lame and weaking the payouts.
At every tournament there is a Discraft CTP on hole #1. You must throw a Discraft disc to win this CTP.

HISTORY OF THE IOSThe series started in 2003 as a single event. The event was held at Fairfield Park in Round Lake on August 10, 2003. 95 players attended this one day event. http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_...urnID=3641#Open (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=3641#Open)
Approximately 15 players had to be turned away. We then realized that PDGA events are in high demand in this area.

2007 is going to be a great year!!!!! Do you have what it takes to win the Illinois Open Series?
2007 is a GREAT opportunity to start earning points to get invited to the 2008 Am/Pro Worlds in Kalamazoo, MI. This is a must play for anyone living in the Midwest. We are running all Am B-Tiers so you can accumulate a lot of points so you get your invite. If you are not a PDGA member you better join if you want to play Am Worlds in 2008.
LOMBARD will be an Advanced Amateur qualifier for the United States Amateur Disc Golf Championships in Milford, MI. You must play advanced at Lombard & finish in the top 20%. This is one of the best Amateur tournaments in the country played on the famous Toboggan course. You can find out more information there-> http://www.amnationals.com/ (http://www.amnationals.com/)
ROCKFORD was one of the largest events in the country with 224 players last year. There will be $500 added cash to the event in 2007. It will also be a USDGC (www.usdgc.com) qualifier for the best finishing Illinois player in the MPO division. For more information on this contact Brett Comincioli -> president@discontinuum.org Rockford will also be one of the first qualifiers for 2008 Am Nationals. Check www.amnationals.com for more details.

I have done some massive revisions. Some minor, some major. If someone could read it over for mistakes I would appreciate it. I'm working hard on getting Rockford confirmed. Once that happens the schedule will be released.
Changes for 2007
Registration is open from 8:00am to 9:00am if event does not fill on preregistration.
Check in by 9:00am.
Player meeting moved from 9:30am to 9:15am.
No final 4 pro safari.
$5.00 Preregistration discount.
Am Nationals qualifier was relocated to Lombard since Am Nationals date changed to June.
Rockford will be a 2008 Am Nationals qualifier.
The best finishing Illinois MPO player at Rockford will be awarded with a qualifying spot to the USDGC.
Scoring for overalls will be best 4 of 6 events.
The series was reduced from 7 events to 6.
Am IV has been added as a division.
heh. firefox 2 + glow = colored bars without text.
sssh. That's how I ignore Dan's sig.
It was like that in 1.5 too. I always thought he was just screwing around haha.
Thanks Mike. That "another" website is http://www.illinoisdiscgolf.com/calendar.html
I put these dates in my calendar. My question to Brett, Jon and Bruce is whether I am using pencil or pen. Are these accurate dates?
If they are true, Rockford being on 4th of July weekend suxs for me. Going to be out of state that holiday weekend.
I'd pencil IOS#6. It's listed as Fri/Sat
I'd be surprised if Brett, Jon, or Bruce would have given the dates to Wilbur before they're absolutely certain. If they were absolutely certain I'm sure they would have posted them here.
Bear in mind that all dates aren't certain until sanctioning is approved. We all know whose calendar to watch for sanctioned events....
(and to echo krupicka, IOS#1 is a sunday/monday affair. kinda like the club tournament, gotta call in sick for that one if you're an am!)
I have not seen Wilbur's site. I don't know where Wilbur got dates. They don't sound like the dates we are trying to get approved. Watch pdga.com and this website for official dates. I'll post good pencil dates when I get home.
There is no 4th of July weekend this year. The 4th falls on a Wednesday. If you have plans for the 7th and 8th of July, bummer.
These are the dates that we are requesting from the PDGA. They have been cleared with the local park districts.
1. Kenosha April 21 and 22
2. Lombard May 19 and 20
3. Crystal Lake June 23 and 24
4. Rockford July 7 and 8
5. Aurora September 15 and 16
6. Round Lake October 20 and 21
These dates looked good on the PDGA calendar, more or less, and will probably be good.
Rockford was the hold up, but it is set now.
if anybody chooses the taste of chicago over Rockford after the turnout at rockford last year, then they have issues.
lol, Cubs vs. white sox same weekend as lombard... guess I'll have to sell my tix! That's ok though, I think I was going to do that anyway. *goes to get calendar and a pencil*
i will take either days sat or sun cubs/sox tix let me know what ur asking
its my birthday weekend so ill go to one game and attend one T
wilburs date in april is incorrect 4-22 and 23 rd
Danimal's right Mukey. Taste runs for a few weeks. You can stuff yer gills any time. Odds are the best free concert will be the 4th. Gotta come to Anna Page. We can bring some fast food, set up an iPod with speakers and you can feel right at home. Wait...we'll get a few 16 year old kids wearing Metallica T shirts to come puke on you and then ask you if you can buy them some more beer, then you can feel just like you are at the Taste.
pdga.com now lists all the IOS dates (minus Rockford) as pending.
Lombard Pandimensionals? What is that!?
We got approval from the Pandimensional Disc Golf Association to hold the Pandimensional Championships, but we shortened the name. All competitors will be required to compete in three dimensions and observe the local convention of linear time. But if you get beat by a three dimensional extension of a nine dimensional life form, you should have practiced your putting.
Or, it is just a silly tournament name that Jon and I like.
Rockford was big before it was a late Am Nationals qualifier. I think it will be big as an early Am Nationals qualifier too.
Is there anyone out there that could put together some type of clip about the IOS for Discgolf TV?
If you want to send me a message...let me know if you have anything specific in mind (video, stills, music, interviews with members). And how long would you want it to run? I could work off your direction..or normally I have pretty good luck letting inspiration grab a hold and creating original video pieces.
I have several hours of footage archived from IOS #6 that I could look through (not including the 3 1/2 hours from the DVDs). Or I could come up north, one of the times, and shoot everyone during your league days or meetings.
I have some questions about trophy only.
I was planning on playing Int on Sun and trophy only Adv on Sat, just for the learning experience of playing with much better players.
First, can a trophy only player qualify for Am Nationals? (The chances of me finishing in the top 20% of Adv players are about as close to zero as possible, but still it's fun to try).
Second, I notice that it's actually cheaper to play Pro trophy only (and an even better learning experience I assume), but is it annoying to the pros to have a player at a low level slowing them down? (I'm borderline Int/Rec). Am I better off sticking with Adv?
Yes you can play trophy only and qualify, but you have to be a PDGA member.
One difference between Trophy only in the Pro division vs the Advanced division, is that there is no player pack for the pro division.
Most of the pros understand that trophy-only players are added cash and they are fine with that. You do get the player pack if you play trophy-only advanced. You'll play with better players if you play trophy-only pro. I've played trophy-only in almost every upper day division, except when I've played pro women I've always paid full fee!
First off, thanks for the replies.
Second, sorry to be redundant. I just realized that this quesiton was already posed in the USADGC forum. Ettiquete foul.
Last, I am trying to register and it keeps saying the letters I've typed for the verification are wrong. I don't think I'm a total idiot...but I'm starting to wonder. Is there a problem with the site, or am I really being that dense? (I know I can read...I've been able to post to this forum :-[)
I think they are time sensitive also. So if you bring up the page and then don't get around to signing up for awhile (like its loading in another tab and you get distracted), the code might time out.
should be good to go now. i had a CAPTCHA verification system installed that was incompatible with the recently updated version of our message board system.
i turned it off.
Thanks mirth. Sorry to be the one to have to point out the problem.
But it's good to know I'm not an idiot.......well, at least this doesn't prove me to be one.
don't be sorry. i'm thankful! :)
I don't. Does Jon? I'm always interested in artwork. Most of what is submitted we use.
With the weather breaking, do we have a 2007 IOS Flyer yet? It's as good a time as any to start seeding the local courses with IOS Flyers
More than once last year I had some dude tell me he saw the flyer but did not realize we were advertising disc golf tournaments.
I checked with the other PDGA moderator. Categorical attacks do not violate the rule against personal attacks, but some categorical attacks might violate the rule against offensive posts. Since I'm not really offended by the opinions of inbred morons, I can't honestly complain. :D
Let's just sabotage his vehicle at Pro Worlds this year. J/K!!
"providing superior disc golf tournaments for over 200 crappy players per event."
Are there a substantial amount of women who play. Enough that is to generate an overall womens open champion?
Barrett White is our perennial Women's Champion. Maybe Marie or Kelsey will giver her a run this year. We really just have one pro woman playing regularly and some ams playing up for the fun and experience.
I know this has been posted somewhere, but is the $5 preregistration discount applied against the entry fees posted on brasscash.com? iow, is trophy-only $20 - 5 for adv = $15?
Can non-PDGA members play trophy-only in the recreational division ($20.00 + $5.00 = $25.00) for any IOS Event?
As long as the elves haven't calculated a rating for them that precludes it.
I had forgotten that Kevin McCoy was on my get even list. I'm starting to get mediocre in the getting even category.
If the IOS powers that be decide that the pre-reg discount isn't worth the hassle for next year (which I hope isn't the case), I thought this different enticement for pre-reg "Pre-Registered players will be entered [in a] prize raffle" from the Lincoln Park tourney is worth considering.
We could do that. I could make some cool dyed discs and use those. I want to work on some Warner Bros characters over the summer. The problem with the pre-reg discount is four entry fees per division. It makes the accounting twice as much work.
I am going to write up a new refund policy for 2008. I'm not completely comfortable with how it is written now although it won't be completely different. Bruce and Brett will have to approve it (well, one of them will have to anyway) but they have said that they are open to changes. I'll keep your comments/suggestions in mind while I rewrite it.
[edited to add the word "not" in front of comfortable...THAT completely changes the meaning of that, now doesn't it!]
