whats with the midwest national qualifer?
USDGC Qualifier for top finishing MPO player from Illinois. www.usdgc.com
2008 USADGC Qualifier. www.amnationals.com
We also have a sponsor paying for a couple of women's entry fees to USWDGC, best pro score and best am score on Saturday, maybe something on Sunday too.
How does the USWDGC sponsorship work?
Shoot the best score, say you're going, it's paid for you. It is not being sponsored by the tournament. It is outside money.

doh! I'll get the update going tomorrow afternoon.
The USWDGC paid entry fees are for the best score on Saturday for a woman who intends to play in a pro division at USWDGC and for the best score on Saturday for a woman who intends to play in an amateur division at USWDGC. We will also pay an entry fee for the best amateur woman score on Sunday for a woman who intends to play in an amateur division at USWDGC.
For example, if we had done this at Crystal Lake, Barrett would have won the paid pro entry fee, Marie would have won the Saturday am paid entry fee and Diana would have won the Sunday am paid entry fee.
The money for this is coming from attorney Dan Flaggman via me, and not out of the Rockford players' entry fees.
-----------------------------------
Rockford is also an Am Nationals qualifier. Top 20% will qualify for 2008. If you have never gone to Am Nats, the course is awesome and they treat you really well. For my $75 entry fee I got a disc golf bag, two hats, four or five discs, two minis, food every day, and a thorough butt whomping. I got my loot in the player pack and Lizard Games. I could have got one more disc for speed golf, but I could have died from asthma trying that!
-----------------------------
Rockford is also the Illinois USDGC qualifier. Brett can explain that. I think you have to play Open to qualify and shoot the best score for the day of those who are not otherwise qualified.
Thing #1: The accuweather.com foreguess is for really nice weather. Go pre-register.
Thing #2: I'm dying trophy discs over the next three days. Micro divisions that don't pre-register don't get a trophy disc. Period. Go pre-register.
Thing #3: I'm thinking the Throw Discraft/DGA player pack will be worth 24 Brass towards Discraft and DGA. I can do 100 of those with the sponsorship I've been accumulating from Discraft and DGA. I'll do 50 each day. To reserve one, go pre-register, and then e-mail me. I'll go empty my in box. You go pre-register.

Rockford will be a USDGC (www.usdgc.com) qualifier for the best finishing Illinois player in the MPO division. This is for 1 spot only.

This spot is guranteed through August 1, 2007. The entry fee must be paid in full by that date.

My check is in the mail for adv GM. I'm sure there will be others. Although since it's outnumbered adv M a couple of times, is it still considered a micro-division? ;)
Any division you can count on your two hands is a micro division. I'll go make the Adv Gr Master trophy.

Serg, I stayed at a Motel 6 last year. only cost me about $60. I don't think they had a pool, but the A/C in the room was already cranking when I got there & was really nice. But, for $60 they don't even put a clock in your room, lol. Make sure you have your cell phone alarm set!

If I pre-register but then can't make it because my wife goes into labor, how soon do I have to notify someone that I can't make it and push the registration to another IOS? I will have internet access, but not until we are in the recovery room after having the baby. Is there someone that I could call should something happen?
Thanks :)
Could someone post a list of basket placements for the tournament? My brother and I were out there on Sunday morning for skins and doubles and they were moving baskets to prepare for the tournament.
Thanks!

From brasscash.com:
QuotePre-registration Policy->
If the TD is contacted Friday or before the event weekend, the pre-registered players money will be held and can be used at any of the IOS events left in 2007. If they don't show to any of the later events the money will be used in the prize pool at the final event. If the TD is not contacted Friday or before the event weekend the money will be added to the prize pool that weekend.

They will painted & marked on Friday. I have no maps for this course. I can tell you the alternates on the old course will be exactly the same as the alternates played in the 2005 event.
I should have those on a google map shortly. Brett- Any ideas for alts on the new? Same as last?

Mike,
Great job with the map. The only one on the old coruse that needs to be fixed is the tee for #20. It's across the road near the tree line.
There will be 2 temps on the new course.
4A & 4B
4A will run along the road. Par 4 with basket by the road. Similar to what was played in 05.
4B will be an anhyzer shot similar to what was played in 05 as well playing back to tee #5.
New Course Routing (Alts will be played between holes 4 and 5, but are listed last in order on the map). Again, these are only approximate and to the best of my ability given the tree cover at Rockford.
Google Course Map (New) (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=109692845228533224709.0004345dce93d9e3a99f7&ll=42.306554,-89.150941&spn=0.005427,0.006888&t=k&z=17&om=1)
(I also updated the tee on the old course map)
about how long would you say 4A is? and is it being counted as a par 4?
Par only matters if you are late to the tee. Then you get par+4. At USADGC we had a guy who was two holes late and hole 2 is a par 5. That was one of the four reasons I was not DFL.

Will anyone be available at the course on Friday to take registrations? I might be a game time decision.
I expect to be there Friday, most of the day.
would you recommend playing this course blind ( as innever playing before)
If your choices are play blind or play not at all, I'd advise play blind. These are very good courses and fun to play.
It'd be a good idea to at least walk the course before hand, though. Especially the course with the concrete tees.
I play them with very little practice. If you can't see the basket, you can walk up, have a look, and come back and throw.
Just a reminder, the Rockford Jumbo Throw Discraft Player Pack is for 24 Brass instead of 20. 50 each day. More on Sunday if all of Saturday's aren't used. You have 24 hours left to reserve one. Then it is just first come, first jumboed. If we run out of these, everyone else gets 15 Brass.
I'd like to reserve one for Sunday :)
Bruce - is the jumbo players pack discraft only or can I use it for DGA too?
Bruce - Kurt Krasinski requested in his preregistration today that you reserve a jumbo for him both days. He's prereg'ed for sat & sun.
What's the capacity for IOS #4 @ Rockford? 20 holes x 2 courses x 4 players per card = 160 per day?
i'll go on a limb and say the capacity is defnitely more than will be there, so nobody should worry about getting in. however it will be a big turnout, so please come or you'll be missing out!
if you are trying to win the overall points series, this is definately not the IOS to skip..
btw, nice 2nd round the other day michler
For the first 3, it was Discraft/DGA.
It is Discraft/DGA, but I'm out of Rogues right now. :'(
Are there towels that fall into that category? I thought I remembered seeing some DGA or discraft...

Dan & Tom are going to mark the alternates Friday night when they get there. Please thank those guys! It's a lot of work.

Sorry to hear about your loss Brett.

SUNDAY PLAYERS ONLY! Do NOT park in the parking lot by the pavilion. While we have exclusive use of the disc golf course, another group has exclusive use of the pavilion and the parking lot (we CAN use the bathrooms, of course). Do NOT parallel park along the park road but rather back onto the grass and perpendicular park. We'll fit a lot more cars close to tournament central if everyone parks by backing in. Look for Bruce's trailer for the location of tournament central.
Saturday players can park in the pavilion parking lot and we'll be using the pavilion on Saturday for tournament central.
Thanks to all for your cooperation. Spread the word as you are parking on Sunday since not everyone reads the board.

We can accommodate 200 players per day...we won't be turning anyone away.
wouldn't it be awesome if we had to though?
ok, that's weird, I got an email reciept for paying for the tournament. hmm. I hope I don't get charged and you guys not be able to find out.
bizarre. looking more into it, I canceled your order because there wasn't a paypal transaction associated with it. this is how a cart ends up for people who get to the paypal payment screen but end up not making the purchase.... there's a valid cart with unpurchased items.
In this event, though, there is a PP purchase although the random ID doesn't match up so the store didn't know the transaction completed.
I will make sure the elves in tournament central know this.
Sorry for the scare!

So, how many poison ivy reports are there? >:D
Final results were up as Bruce started awards. Thanks, I'm glad you had a good time! It usually takes 3-10 days for poison ivy to break out so any reports of poison ivy at this point wouldn't be from Rockford.

So does Brett. Brett's didn't come from Rockford though. The one thing that I know about poison ivy is that it hasn't been studied much except for by the makers of poison ivy guard products. So, although poison ivy "usually" takes 3-10 days to start breaking out, I have also read that some exposures fall outside that norm.

After the first time I got a poison ivy rash I played Channahon and threw my drive into arm pit high poison ivy plants. It was during a tournament and I just took the unplayable lie penalty and played on. At the end of the tournament my disc was on the lost and found table so I put it in a plastic bag and took it home and washed it with soap and water.
I developed some resistence to poison ivy about the same time I started taking fish oil daily. There might be a connection since fish oil is secreted through the skin. Probably the oil on the skin resists the urushiol oil.
When I get poison ivy, the blisters occur almost always about a week after the exposure. But, you can get poison ivy off unwashed clothes, a disc golf towel, your dog or cat if they've been in it, so you don't necessary have to have been in live poison ivy recently to get it.
That fish oil thing is interesting because it's been my experience that resistance to poison ivy decreases with both age and exposure. Might be something to remember.
Regardless of when current poison ivy rashes were initiated there is no denying that Anna Page is LOADED with it. Especially the alternate holes on the old course. Most especially hole 20 where if you didn't hit your line (and I didn't either day) odds were strongly in favor of your disc lying in a patch. (I'm highly resistant though, so it's all good. ;D)

I would like to announce that I am now the proud new parent of my very first poison ivy rash. I've named it Cesar as it apparently likes to conquer new territory now and then. Started as a cute little red spot and has grown into a beautiful patch of nastiness. Cesar has also established some outlying colonies on my other leg, so by tomorrow morning it should be pretty interesting. Not as bad as yours, Brett, and based on that I can only imagine what you're going through.

Next year I'll have sun block and ivy block! In all seriousness, I have never seen so much poison ivy on that course. Are conditions favorable this year for poison ivy growth? I remember back in the 90's the first time I played Anna Page I got into some stinging weed. Man that was brutal. I think it was on hole 12 or 13. At least that stuff goes away in an hour or so. When ever I get poison ivy it takes a good two weeks to get rid of all of it.
I highly recommend that those that get poison ivy to go see a doctor and get a prescription for some antibiotics. My wife had a not so fun case of it on the inside part of her arm opposing her elbow. With the antibiotics, the poison ivy was effectively gone in three days.
I also highly recommend some of the anti-itch cream that you can buy at Walgreens or wherever - it says good for poison ivy itch and poison oak right on the box. That stuff works great a numbing the area so that you don't think as much about scratching it and spreading the stuff even further!

Poison ivy is not a bacterial infection so I'm not sure what she got the antibiotics for unless the area that was affected got infected somehow. Either way, the antibiotics could not have cleared up the poison ivy. Poison ivy is a skin reaction to the oil that is on the poison ivy plant. Doctors usually treat the worse cases with steroids and leave the lesser cases to resolve themselves.
Best prevention- throw it in the fairway.

sorry, you're right, i asked my wife and she said it was a type of steroids that they gave her and not an antibiotic. But yeah, gone in 3 days... so if you have a really severe case, go see an MD about it because it can be really bad sitting it out!
I didn't see much ivy at Rockford, but I didn't spend much time in the rough, either. I just got over a bad case of ivy I picked up while working at Trinity Links. Note to self: Always wear a shirt when using a weed whip. "The red badge of courage" covered my torso, arms, knees, and ankles. If you're a wimp and you just can't deal with a little itching for a few days, Zanfel works wonders. It's an OTC ointment that's available at most pharmacies, but it costs $40 an ounce. I'd rather save my money, plus it feels so good to scratch the rash.

think that happened when Mike Tyson tried Hockey. The Canadians were tired of getting the snot beat out of them by Toronto so they figured that Mke could help stave off Marty McSorley. Of course, he tried to bite him. the fans, used to this kind of nonesense were desensitized to the extreme violence and kept cheering wildly even as the Leafs goon skated off missing his right ear and while bleeding profusely.. Apparently, this method of densitization, which might work when combining Hockey and Boxing (now isn't that a stretch. ;)) does not work with Poison Ivy. That being said, am I the only guy who sat through the entire movie from Drew Barrymore's bad girl phase?

People have been known to die by chewing the leaves of poison ivy plants...it is not a recommended way to try to desensitize yourself from poison ivy. My Aunt almost died after eating marshmellows roasted on a poison oak stick.
