Title: Hot Stamp Color?
Post by: stpitner on January 25, 2007, 02:43:40 PM
Just out of curiosity - I was wondering how much any of you that buy a disc have a huge preference when it comes to the color of a hot stamp.  I had a customer blow up at me because they thought they were going to receive a disc with a red hot stamp, but it was actually a purple hot stamp (and it was correctly pictured).  I've been comparing between my CRT monitor at work and my LCD monitor at home (finally got one yay), and the disc stamp looks purple, even almost black on a CRT monitor and it looks somewhat red, but not really, deep red to almost purple on the LCD.

To me it's not really that big of a deal.  I care more about the weight and the color of the disc.  If the hot stamp looks cool then it's an added bonus, but what's so upsetting about purple vs. red stamp?  The disc color is white.

It seems like a lot of customers that I have are very particular about the disc they pick out, how about others?

Here's a pic of the disc so you can decide for yourself what color you see...

I can tell it's dark purple.

As far as I know, online disc sites I've visited just let you choose weight & color. Unless the person specifically asked for it, I'd say the hot stamp should be a "u get what u get" thing. It's not your fault that his monitor sucks.

Also, it's not like that disc is hard to find right now, theres 36 of them on Ebay and >I< even have a few, thanks to our Discraft-pushing, Lord-of-his-backyard, MI TD/Merch-man.  :)

Lol, I've not had anyone freak out on me (yet). I have noticed that purple foil stamps look maroon or brown when photographed. Discraft is kinda strange (in my opinion), they like using that baby blue color in the esp line, and they always seem to use purple or rainbow foil, I'd like to see more manly colors from them in 07.

It's a space alien thing.  There's this group of space aliens getting by on Earth who are fanatical about the color purple.  Just put "I love purple" in a google web search and you can find their websites.  The shapeshifting reptilians hate the purplephiles and anything purple.  When they take over, the purplephiles are doomed, but a lot has to happen between here and Draco for that to happen.  So you must have sold a disc to a reptilian.

[It's winter.  My hobby is reading the space alien conspiracy websites!   ;D ]

O.k., now I'm serious.  I was talking to Keith today and I'll probably see him tomorrow.  I've gotten a lot of negative feedback about the femmy pastels.  I'll try to remember to bring it up with him tomorrow.

Let me know what they say.
My other complaint is i'll order 10 or so of one disc like a comet, and all 10 of them will be the same color. My customers end up not buying the discs because they say they won't be able to tell who's disc is who's. I'm going to have to talk with them also, to see what can be done.

That you need to deal with when ordering.  Also, try selling Sharpies, too.  A lot of pros are now marking both sides of the disc to avoid the two throw penalty for throwing from someone else's lie.  Tell your customers that and they will too.

purple to me too. very very dark, almost black, but there's enough of a violet hue that I know its not purple. this is on my wife's CRT. I'll tell you what it looks like on my laptop after the kids go to bed.

ya, i dunno... looks maybe more purple on the lappie panel. u shoulda told angry customer that it was a stock picture and not representative of the actual product.

Try telling him that color is just an illusion shared by those whose perception is limited to only four of the dimensions in an eleven dimensional universe.

I'm sitting here thinking, "You mean that's not a black and white photograph of a Magnet?"

I did offer a refund as long as the disc returns unthrown, but I haven't heard back yet.  I've sold a couple hundred discs now and no one has complained until now.  He suggested (well, it was more like demanded) that I should put the hot stamp color in the listing.  Ah well lol.  I do try to put the actual picture up with the disc (or well, if I get another one in stock with the same hot stamp color I don't take a new picture), but still.  tough crowd I suppose.

I completely agree on the lack of color selection when I order from Discraft.  There's a broader spectrum of colors if you combine all of the discs together, but the individual type of disc (surge, avenger, whatever) is always bulk same color.  In some cases it's the same color, weight, and hot stamp combination for 2 or 3 discs.  I understand that they want to make a bunch of discs of one color from a single run, but it would GREATLY help if it was more assorted colors (or all white for bruce lol).

How do you know we all perceive the wavelength of light we call "purple" as the same color?  Maybe what I have grown up calling "red" looks what I might call "green" to you!  This would explain why I think people dress funny. :icon_geek:

I Say you go with "I'm color blind.. why do you have to make me feel bad because I can't see colors.. you are so insensitive to others feelings.. *sniff* *sniff*"

That will take care of him and make him feel like an ass

Well, I know that my perception of color is unlike yours simply because I'm profoundly color blind.  But the broader question has been asked for a long time by philosophers and is sort of being answered by science.  Within a species, assuming healthy sensory organs and nervous systems, perception seems to be a constant.  So are you taking college level philosophy classes or do you just happen to know what is the sound of one hand clapping?   O0

Ah, the old adage -- You can't please everybody.  Obviously, you're doing the right thing since this is your first complaint.

Personally I don't think that stamp color is as important as weight or disc color but I do see it having a value.  For example; If I want a white 180 DX Roc and the seller has two, one with a pink stamp, and one with a blue stamp I'm choosing the blue stamp.

I think its a good idea to put the stamp color in the item description.

BTW: On my monitor I could see that stamp being confused with Red.

EDIT: if the guy is having a real issue with the color just suggest that he buy some acetone and just remove the stamp completely.
