An 18 hole course is going in on Kane County Forest Preserve District property along the Fox River just north of Blackhawk Forest Preserve. That's all the detail I have at the moment.

That is fantastic!!! Kane county with a course. Cook county at Edgbrook. Maybe Lake will figure it out.
Sweet!! How did you find out, any news as to when?
Sweeeeeeeet!! That's about 3 or 4 miles from my house! The area has thick woods and a little elevation. 18 holes may be tight, but that's some good land.
I think there are plans for an extension of Stearns road over the Fox River very near that location, so (someday) it'll be easy to get there for everyone.
Sounds like I'm about to get a new home course. Hm, I wonder who will be hosting "leagues at South Elgin?"
That's great news! The more out in this general area the better!

I was talking to a Forest Preserve District guy, Bob Quinlan, about submitting a proposal for a course at Campton Forest Preserve and he mentioned the South Elgin course. I got the impression that it was going in this spring, but like I said above, I really don't have any further details. Sorry.
Evidently the Village of South Elgin has licensed the northern section of the Jon Duerr Forest Preserve from the Kane County Forest Preserve District for the purpose of building this course. The KCFPD likes this type of arrangement so they are indemnified. I'll try to get more info from South Elgin sometime next week. It seems that Forest Preserve Districts are reluctant to tackle disc golf thinking it more appropriate for parks and recreation districts.
I just spoke to the South Elgin superintendent of parks. She was very interested in my offer to help with the design & installation of the new course and said she would show me the proposed layout. The current plans are for a nine-hole course running between three different parks. Once I see the plans and take a look at the property, I'll be able to post more.
The budget won't be finalized and approved until April, so late spring looks like the earliest date this would be completed.
Nice! I used to live right by that forest preserve and walked my dog there all the time. It's probably going to be in the area northwest of the trolley parking lot, I think it was an old gravel quarry at one time that is surrounded by a road that you can't drive on anymore. There is a high ridge of trees and forest, and in the middle is prairie grass and shrubs, plenty of poison ivy as well. There are a ton of possibilities there to design an incredible course.
I walked through the course with the parks superintendent last night & we finalized the layout. The holes are okay considering the space we had to use, but the flow is going to cause some complaints. There are two distinct parts to this 9-hole course, with about two-plus blocks between.
There are plenty of trees throughout, and a small creek on a few holes. The river doesn't come into play in order to avoid any conflicts with the numerous peolple fishing there. Slight elevation and a fast green or two.
The tees will be grass, marked with stones in the ground & maps/scorecards should be available at the village hall and on the course. No plans for signs right now. Baskets may be installed as early as July.
This course will be in the ground for only a few years as they are planning to re-develop this land, so we'll be looking for a re-location site somewhere in South Elgin in the the future.
^^^^ That is good news, I've always thought that place would be good for a course. So tjdub, what area specifically will the course be on? Will it mainly be around the bike trail and field near the entrance? Will the area around the old road going around the preserve come into play? Just curious. Seems weird they will take it out permamently after the redevelopment, couldn't the course be a part of the "redevelopment"? Anyhow, I'm psyched to play it. Hopefully it will be in by the Blottopia fest at the end of July, plenty of hippies camped at vasa park will give the course plenty of use that weekend. I'll be there!
The new South Elgin course will be at the river crossing at State Street, about 2 miles south of US 20. It is in the city parks (Seba Park will probably be the official location) next to the river and not in the wooded forest preserve south of the tolley museum. The course winds through three parks with a big gap between holes 5 & 6. It is not in the thick forest preserve area like we previously speculated, so no woods, no prairie. The northern border to the north section is Stone Street and the southern border of the south section is the trolley museum & baseball diamonds.
Nice work Tyler! Can't wait to play it.
So they decided to go with the 9 rahter than the 12 we had originally proposed after our walk? Which ones were removed?
They were never willing to up their budget from the original 9 holes, so that's all we'll get.
1, 2, & 3 are the same. They eliminated the two running next to the playground. We didn't finalized 4, & 5 will be across the vacant lot between the two southern parks.
6-9 are redesigned, with 6 starting at the end of the parking lot near the river and going to the elevated pin in the middle of the park. 7 is a left to right hugging the elevated driveway on the river, 8 is a long straight shot throough a tight gap off an elevated tee, & 9 is a short left to right into a tight grove of tall trees.
That was the design we worked out on Tuesday night, I'm not sure if the parks superintendent will change anything.
Anyone interested in touring the course before baskets are installed, send me a PM & we'll set up a time.
Hey guys wondering if this course is open yet? Very pumped for the new course!
The baskets were ordered about two weeks ago & should be delivered to the parks department by next week. The parks superintendent estimated installation "probably after the fourth of July." I'll contact him on 7/5 to ask for an update.

Hey Tjdub curious if you got a hold of them on the 5th... i would appreciate any info as im excited to play this course!! THANKS!
5 of the 9 sleeves have been installed, & I assume the other 4 will be installed on Monday. I don't know yet when the baskets will be put in and the tees marked. I'll try to find out next week.
Tyler
awesome thanks bro, i appreciate it
i cant wait for this course to be done! anyone got updates!?
It is in. Holes 1-5 are in SEBA Park and County Park, which are right next to each other and seem like the same park. They are just south of State Street off 31. Holes 6-9 are North of State Street over by the police station. You can walk the distance between 5 and 6, but if you have a car I don't know why you would. It was good problem solving splitting up the holes. They had two pieces of land not big enough for 9 holes, and they worked out a solution. You could easily use it for a league by having some people play 1-5 twice and some play 6-9 twice, then switch.
It also falls inside that black hole from Streamwood to the East, St. Charles to the South, Crystal Lake to the North and DeKalb to the West where there are no courses. The location is great. The "back four" are going to be closed for a concert this weekend. They use that park from time to time for special events, so it will come up again I'm sure. The whole course will be pulled during Riverfest in August.
As for the design...some will like it, some will not. I shot -9 for 18 and I'm no good, so it is a par 27 course. I never figured out the prefered line on # 2, the fairway is a creek and it is tough to figure out how to attack it. # 3 is going to light up the Ace thread, but after you dump the water out of your shoes from playing # 2 an ace run is kind of nice. 6-9 are the holes that will bring the most debate. I'll let others worry about that.
SEBA Park, South Elgin (http://www.amctrl.com/cgi-bin/DiscGolfPage.cgi?id=146)
There was obviously some thought put into this course layout. Good use of available flora and elevation to make a fun couse while avoiding the major playground and picnic areas. Good variety of shots, and shot options on several holes. As has been stated hole 3 is an ace run / approach shot, but once the tee is moved will be improved. The basket location on the small hill surrounded by Blue Spruce is picture perfect. Personally, I wouldn't trim the trees on 8. Throwing from the river embankment under the trees makes for a fun shot not often seen around here. We played on a Sunday morning while a stage was being set up for an evening concert, so we faced some unusual obstacles on 6 and 9. Because of fishermen and other park users I'll probably avoid this park on weekends but play it often after visiting my customers in South Elgin during the week. ;) I'll choose to walk from 5 to 6. For me the preferred path is along the river under the bridge avoiding crossing the road. It's about a 1/4 mile walk. Hats off to those involved in the course design (Tyler!).
Hey Tyler,
We're coming up to play the new course tomorrow (Saturday). Tim, Ron, the Esquivels, and myself. If you want to stop by.
We are leaving from Eagle Ridge at noon. So we should be there by 1:00. We can play for tags. I have #3.
Afterwards, we'll be hitting Streamwood, and getting something to eat. Make it if you can. :cya:
Tyler,
Could you submit the info for this course to the PDGA directory. I'm hoping to get out to play it & the new 9-holer at Streamwood soon.
Later
Brett
The parks are on Illinois Route 31 about 2 miles south of US 20. Two blocks south of the stoplight at State Street is Plum St, turn left towards the river. At the end of the street, turn right into the parking lot, hole #1 is on the right, throwing slightly uphill towards Rte 31.
Let me know when you plan on coming out, Brett.
A lot of the course is closed due to the flooding on the Fox River. Holes 1-4 are fine; the basket for #5 was at the edge of the water & behind police tape last night; Holes 6, 7, & 8 were all behind the police tape and a little wet. Plenty of mud & ripped up turf on the north side of the course.
Any updates?!?
The course is still closed, although the river is no longer over the banks. It is still very muddy.

I went out to South Elgin today. The baskets are pulled and there is a sign that says the course is closed for the Winter. So you can add South Elgin to the list of courses that are pulled for the Winter.
So much for my plan of sneaking away from my Mother-in-law's for a quick nine during the Holidays.
I haven't seen it with my own eyes, but word is the baskets are back for the South Elgin course. I hope to check it out tonight after work.
The park district may be willing to move the tee for #3 from the par 2 ace run to a tunnel/big hyzer position. I hope to talk with them about it sometime next week.
I plan on playing this course tomorrow. Does anyone have a map?
I couldn't find a map, but I did find a post by Tyler that at least has a little bit of information to help...

The baskets at the South Elgin course are back in the ground after their winter hibernation!
The course is split between SEBA Park and County Park, it's about two blocks between #5's basket & #6's tee. There are no tee signs and the tees are marked by large pieces of wood in the ground.
It's located at the South Elgin crossing of the Fox River of IL Rte 31, seven miles north of St. Charles and two miles south of US-20. Turn off IL-31 onto Plum St. two blocks south of the light at State Street & take your first right into the parking lot. The first tee is just west of the parking lot.
#3 has a very easy tee placement that I hope to get the city to move soon. Instead of shooting the 150ft wide open shot, move back about 40-50 feet so you're either throwing under or around the tree just to the left of the tee shot. After #5, walk towards the river and go under the State Street bridge. #6's tee is just past the circle drive on the north side of the bridge. Maps should be available at the village hall close the the tee.
Brett,
I'll draw you a map while we in Oswego.
Tyler
Aced number 4 there on Sunday :)
How long is that hole?
Finally got a chance to play this course. Tyler escorted Dan & I from Woodridge.
The holes are tough and the design is good. There is no way I would have found my way around this course without Tyler there. The tee pads are near impossible to find. They are marked by wooden squares in the ground. The tee pads are grass. There is also a very very long walk to play holes 6 thru 9. The creek and river come into play on a couple of holes. Very nice area.
