Title: Good Turnover Disc?
Post by: jim on August 04, 2002, 08:24:59 PM
I played Oshtemo ("Ostemonster") in the Lumberjack 2000 or 2001. It ate me up! Didn't know about the closest one;  I'll have to try it.  Thanks for the info.

What years did you play Adler?  I played on Tuesday nights from about 1993-97, along with Alex "Rifleman" Bingman, Tim Davis (now married w/children ha ha) and Dave "Blaster" Whitten and others.  Adler now officially sucks.  Cutting it to 9 holes was a sin, since hole 10 (big long one down the hill near the pointy statue) is gone.  Still no concrete tees and the alternates are hard to find.  They get 40+ players for Best Shot, 35 of them claim to be Ams (yeah right) and one round of 18 takes 4+ hours.  Forget it! They drink and do the happy weed thang without discretion and the cops bust people regularly.  Kind of a drag when you are about to drive and you see a cop cross the fairway to bust your buddy.  That's exactly why I started DISContinuum and began playing Bevier Park. No BS, just fun!

The entire layout at Adler has changed. No more 10th hole. No more 1st hole (which is now the old 3rd hole). Two of the wooded tunnel holes are similar but moved.  The rest are all new placement.  People say that they are getting 45 players are Tuesday leagues and rounds are taking up to 4 hours, pedestrians are getting tagged, and there seems to be zero maintenance.  I grew up on that course as well and it really pisses me off that the ones who have never left Adler have not lifted a finger to clean it up.

Thanks for visiting MichiganAL! I was wondering in you have played any courses in Ann Arbor? I go to Brooklyn Michigan every June for the Nascar race & we thought about going there one day. It rained on the day we planned to go so we stayed at the campground & got hammered.

Probably the best course in SW Michigan is Robert Morris in Kalamazoo.  It has better elevation changes than Oshtemo and a much better mix of holes.  It is about as far as Oshtemo.  The directions at pdga.com are accurate and easy to follow.  Pay to play.
