http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com has been updated and registration is now officially open. Players may register online. The online registration fee has been lowered from $5 to just $2. A registration form may also be downloaded from the website for anyone who wants to register through the mail. Please note that registering in advance is mandatory. There will be no on site registration. The registration deadline is Thursday, May 31st. I am committed to running a high quality event. There will be no more than a foursome on any hole. That means that this year's field will be smaller than last year's 158 players. Don't wait! Register soon to guarantee yourself a spot.
As always, I welcome your questions and comments. Please email me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com. I look forward to seeing many of you at this year's event.
Thanks,
Mike
Not a qualifier this year huh....
Yeah, Am Nationals moved from September to less than weeks after the WBTYA.
Payout looks like it'll be over 170% - twice the required payout for a C Tier. Raffle has $2,000 worth of great stuff including 5 baskets. There will be $1,000 in CTP prizes including a couple just for the girls. Lifetime Disc Sports will be vending giving players the best selection of merchandise around. Players' packages will once again be top notch. I got my first look at this year's artwork for the discs and was not disappointed. One female particpant will win back her registration fee each day through a free drawing.
The custom discs will be ordered soon leaving over $3,000 on my credit card (it hurts just to write it). This is my plea to anyone planning on playing in this year's event...please register soon. Forms and online registration (costs only $2 more) are both available at http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com. Don't wait until a week or two before the tournament and find yourself on the outside looking in when the field is full.
Please contact me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike
Any idea on when Sussex will open this spring?
Thanks for lowering the fee, would be nice if the Terry would... never will happen... at least until he has some sponsors...
Not sure Shawn. I'll be contacting the Parks Dept. soon. If I get any info, I'll post it here.
I'm glad you liked the lowered fee. The $2 is just enough to cover PayPal's cut.
Mike
Weather permitting - the baskets at Sussex Village Park will back in the ground during the 1st week of May.
I will be at Parkside this Saturday for the IOS event if anyone wants to register at that time.
Please remember that registration closes just 2 weeks from this Thursday (5/31). Registration forms can be downloaded from www.s-curvediscgolf.com. Players can also register online at the website using their PayPal account or credit card. The online convenience fee is only $2.
Remember, every player will receive a great players package which includes two different custom stamped discs. There will be $1,100 in CTP prizes including a couple of big surprises and a couple just for the ladies. Speaking of ladies, a female participant will win back her registration fee each day through a free drawing. Finally, the tournament raffle will have $2,000 worth of fantastic prizes including 5 baskets!!!
Please send me a private message or email me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike
How long does it take to drive there from Chicago assuming no traffic?

Why is there no Rec division for players rated <875?
2 hours is a good estimate. The 9:00 players meeting should give out of towners the chance to warm up and check in. Plus, I've promised a 5 minute players meeting which should give everyone extra time before the 9:30 start. And I'm a stickler for keeping things moving so players should be back on the road as a very reasonable time.
Mitch - I haven't offered a rec division because no one has asked for it until now. Also, the players packages are worth about $35. The bottomline is already taking a hit with the Juniors' $25 registration fee. In the past, some borderline rec/int players took the opportunity to play with and learn from more skilled players knowing they got their entry fees back in the players packages. Plus, they still got a crack at some great CTP prizes (always put on shorter holes so almost everyone can reach the pins) even if they were unlikely to cash. As a rec player, would you be willing to pay $35 to compete in the rec division if you knew the players packages were worth about $35? Please let me know.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike
I'd prefer to play with similar rated players. I feel it's my best chance of being competitive in a tournament setting. I had a great time last year even though I was a couple strokes out of the prizes and didn't pick up any CTP'S or raffle stuff. I will likely be there again this year struggling to raise my rating from 847. Ideally I think if the player pack was just a little less,(or charge a little more) setting a few bucks aside for a prize pool for Recs would be great and would probably boost your pre-registration count. The IOS is now even offering AM IV for players rated <835 with player packs, trophies, prizes, CTP'S, Etc.
Mitch - I'll commit to adding a rec division next year and hope to see you up here again in a couple of weeks.
Thanks,
Mike

Mukey! You need to drive up to this event. W/ Ben playing advanced, we won't be playing many Sunday IOS events. Aren't you going through Schwinn withdrawal?
Just a comment on the rec thing in general. Traditionally in WI (and I believe this might be true in the majority of the US), there hasn't a great demand for a rec division. Typically the rec division here is for people who haven't played tourneys, rather than people with ratings under 875.

Yo Schwinns!
I am coming up, just gonna carpool to save some $ on gas, still gotta register too.
Looking forward to (hopefully) not getting beat by a Schwinn at a tourney. ;)

That's why I put (hopefully)
Don't think I did better than either of them at any of the IOS events last year :dontknow:
At least here I can claim I've never played the course before, so with excuse in hand there's nothing to lose ;D
Whew! Witih Mukey playing, at least I won't take DFL! ;D Only teasing, I'm glad you're driving up. WBTYA is seriously one of the best tournaments in WI. Mike treats the players really well.

Thanks for the consideration Mike. My check is in the mail as of yesterday. See you on 6/2.
Thanks Mitch.
Hello everyone-
Registration closes in a week - Thursday, 5/31. Anyone planning on registering through USPS should get it in the mail by week's end. Remember, no mail service this Monday. Online registration is also available at http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com.
This event should payout about 170%. The players' packages are great. This year's raffle has $2,000 worth of great merchandise including 5 baskets!!! Plus, there will be almost $1,400 in ctp prizes including a couple of surprises.
I will be at the Greater Milwaukee Open this weekend and would be happy to take anyone's registration there
Please contact me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
This might seem trivial, but are you planning to have TD results in by June 12 so that WBTYA results will be included in the next ratings update? Might be a bit more incentive for me to come out.
Yes - the results will be submitted to the PDGA within a few days of the tournament.
Hope to see you up here,
Mike
The event is just a few days away. Registration has picked up considerably over the past couple of days. Online registration at http://www-s-curvediscgolf.com has been extended and will remain available through Friday. On site registration will be offered on a first come, first served basis each day beginning at 8:00 at Sussex Bowl.
The raffle is not limited to tournament participants so anyone is welcome to take a shot at winning fantastic prizes including 5 baskets. Also, keep in mind that you do not need to be present to win. If you can make it, the raffle will take place at Sussex Bowl following the awards ceremony on Sunday.
Please contact me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com with questions. I hope to see a lot of you there.
Thanks,
Mike
There are now less than 20 spots left for Saturday (Intermediate, Intermediate Women & Juniors). Sunday is more than half full (Advanced, Advanced Women, Advanced Masters & Advanced Grandmasters). Online registration is available at http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com through Friday.
Mike
There are already 63 players registered for Saturday including 50 in the Intermediate division! That leaves just 9 spots left. Register online now at http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com. If necessary, a waiting list will be created. Any spots that are vacated either morning will be filled on a first come, first served basis. There are still plenty of spots open in the various Advanced divisions on Sunday. Anyone who wants to play on Sunday may register online through Saturday or in person at Sussex Bowl on Saturday or Sunday morning. Please contact me at mike@s-curvediscgolf.com with any questions.
Thanks,
Mike
Can't wait for this!! It's been hell being inside at work all this week.
Wham Bam was great fun.
Thanks to Mike Batka and his staff for well run show
I'll second that. It blew me away when he said if it rained during the morning round that he would take wet towels over to the laundromat to dry them out during lunch! :o
I enjoyed the Sussex Village course. It may not be the toughest in the world, but the elevation changes and pin placements made for lots of fun. A great, well manicured park setting.
Thirded.
Thanks to Mike & crew for running things well & thinking of the players. Very fun despite my scores.
I'd have to say my first round card was probably the most fun I've had in a tourney round. We were trash talking the whole way through. Thanks Marie Schwinn(on the juice >:D >:D), Kyle Scuglik, & Steve Cohn.
Special thanks to Steve, who, after noticing my last name from an Ebay purchase, put 2 & 2 together, & messaged me the night before that he would bring the disc & give me back my shipping $.
This is a good event for Am players to keep on the look out for next year.Sussex is a fun course that has some different shots & some great elevation changes, especially for players from IL. The fact that he caps it makes sure that it moves smoothly. I think I only waited to throw a hole about 2-3 times throughout the day.
More on the event later. Just wanted to post that scores should be online tomorrow (6/04). Also, I will be calling everyone who won raffles prizes, but was not there to claim them.
Mike
Results are now online for your viewing pleasure. Thanks to the players, sponsors and everyone else who helped make this year's event a big success. There were 226 discs given away in the players' packs. CTP prizes included 79 more discs, 2 pairs of Quadshocks, two $25 gift certificates and 2 baskets. Plus, the raffle included well over $2,000 in prizes including 5 more baskets. Marie Schwinn and Carla Gomez both shot a new women's tournament record -4. Ben Singer and Chris Bunke aced holes 7 and 13 respectively. The official results will be submitted to the PDGA prior to the next ratings deadline of 6/12. Finally, check out http://www.s-curvediscgolf.com in a few weeks to view plenty of photos from this year's event.
Thanks,
Mike
