Title: Don't Be Fooled Saturday April 28th in Highland Park
Post by: E-Roc on March 05, 2007, 06:23:11 AM
The next tournament hosted by
The "Disc Golf Alley" Club of Illinois
will be Saturday April 28th at
Cunniff and Fink Parks in Highland Park.

The tournament is the day before the Big
22nd Annual Oly Spring Opener
PDGA event in Olympia Fields.

I plan on playing in that event, so
why not come out to Highland Park
and get warmed up before the
Sunday event.

See attached flyer for more info.

Scott and I strongly encourage pre-registration
to get this tournament running smooth on the 28th.

I'm going to TRY to order new stuff for this tournament.  I know that I had a couple people looking for Max weight Roc's and Buzzz's, and I didn't have either of those.  I don't really need to know what to order as I can check out Bruce's thread for the "top 5 discs you need to have", but hopefully I can figure out a way to TRANSPORT all of these new discs to the tournament.  I pretty much maxed out my Explorer with the 350-400 discs that I did have along with tables and canopy tents.  Maybe my mom will hang onto the conversion van so that I can borrow it from her and use it for transporting all of the goods :)

Great player's packs and payouts for all that come out!  CTP's for all divisions!  Please pre-register!  Player's packs and payouts use Rob 'em Rewards dollars that you can use to purchase any of the available merchandise, and you can save it up and spend it at a future tournament before they expire at the end of the year.  It's a great way to come on out, win a bunch of rewards dollars, and later use them to pick up something nice to enhance your disc golf collection!

Great News!

I am in the process of getting "Don't Be Fooled" sanctioned by the PDGA.  If approved, it will be a D-Tier, AMs only event for the Advanced, Intermediate, and Recreational Divisions.

There will be a limit of 50 players for the day, and will be a pre-registration only.  Look for it to be on the PDGA.com website in a few weeks.

That IS great news! Thanks for running a PDGA event, Eric. Looks to be a good weekend for local tournies, at least for Ams, with Oly the next day.

Don't Be Fooled is officially sanctioned.

You can now view it on pdga.com.

Pre-registration has begun for any that wish to sign up early.  I have already received a few e-mails regarding this.  I will be updating the flyer over the weekend to specify the D-Tier sanctioning.

I'll contact Eric and see if there's a possibility for signing up online for pre-reg.  We're not running Olympia Fields, so I unfortunately can't help you there.

Oly does not have an online registration service. Brian Cumming in the past has taken mail-in regs, but day of event on-site will not likely sell out.

well, I haven't heard back from Eric, but I know he has a lot going on.  I'll give you an option for registering online, and I'll make sure that your registration is processed (I'm VP of the club).

There is a $2 service charge for online registration to compensate for paypal fees.  It's $27 for Advanced and $22 for INT or REC.  Please include your PDGA # (if you have one) and what division in the comments.  There is no $5 fee if you do not have a PDGA # because this is a D-Tier event.

PayPal payments can be sent to scott AT paperorplasticsports DOT com (obviously convert that into an email address when sending the payment).  You can also send payment to the email address that's in my profile.. it goes to the same account.

Again - online payments $27 for Advanced and $22 for Intermediate and Recreational.

Let those registrations come in and fill up that field!

I did verify that it's ok to send PayPal payments to scott AT paperorplasticsports DOT com for $27 ADV or $22 INT/REC for pre-registrations.

Don't forget that you start at Cunniff park and end the day at Fink!  Should be a fun day!

Pre-registrations are finally starting to fly-in.  If it's okay with Brett, Bruce, and Jon, I will have flyers on Sunday at IOS #1 for those of you that wish to pre-register.

On a side note, I will have 2007 Am Worlds Super Rocs and KC Pro Rocs for sale at Don't Be Fooled.

Weather report is looking GREAT for this event.  Remember that it IS sanctioned so that you get points and ratings for coming out!  We max out at 55 players, and we do expect to fill!  Pre-registrations can be mailed (check out the flyer), or paypal payments sent to scott AT paperorplasticsports DOT com.  Mailed in fees are $20 for INT/REC, $25 for ADV, and if you're paying online it's $2 more for that division.

I know that a lot of people were really impressed with the Ultra-light Raging Inferno DT at IOS #1.  We have at least 10 of those discs that will be available at this tournament, and if I get some people interested in reserving some, perhaps we can pick up even more in time for the tournament.

Please be sure to pre-register!  It will save you and us some time on the day of the tournament!

Don't forget - go to Cunniff Park first.

And oh yeah, there will be 10 CTP's throughout the day, 5 per round.  There may wind up to be more than that, but these are the 10 that I know about.

For each round there will be a CTP for the following:
REC division players only
INT division players only
ADV division players only
Free for all - available to everyone
DGAC - members of the Disc Golf Alley Club only.

One of the CTP's for the free for all will be the Golden Retriever - a VERY sweet tool used to rescue your disc out of water!  All you have to do is see the disc and this thing comes in and sweeps it right up.  We will also have some of these for sale at the tournament!

We are at 15 pre-registered players so far.  And, I still need to load a couple of more.

Awesome!

I just want to let everyone know that after the tournament, there will be a distance competition.  The cost is $5.00 and you get an Ultralight Raging Inferno DT to throw and keep.  Whomever throws the farthest will win a Grand Prize bag filled with a Bunch of Quest Discs.

I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop as to the tournament in Highland Park this Saturday.  We will not be playing at Fink Park at all on Saturday.  It is pretty wet and muddy, and will take at least a week to dry up.  That is, with some nice weather.

We will be playing the whole day at Cunniff Park.  I will be adding 3-4 temp holes which should be some tough looking shots.

Hope to see some of you guys out there this Saturday.

Just a note to all-

We WILL be opening up registration to people who come to register on the day of the tournament.  Not everyone had a chance to see the flyer where it says pre-registration only, and we do want to get as many people out there as we can.  From what I have seen about the temp holes that will go in they are not going to be the easiest shots!  We are adding 3 or 4 temp holes.  There are a couple tight wooded holes and possibly some tight holes working around/near a pond.  It definitely adds to the challenge and the fun.

There will not be any penalty for registering on the day of the event as this is a D-tier event where we are trying to promote the sport of disc golf and not penalize someone who did not see the flyer.

We have 17 registered players thus far, http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6791 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=6791) and we hope that we can get it up to 55+ on Saturday.

Weather forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy with high of 71.  The rain will be cleared out by Friday morning, and it will give a full day for the course to dry out.  Cunniff dries a LOT faster than Fink, so that's why we are only playing at Cunniff.

C'mon out, get your PDGA points, and help support the disc golf community in the area!

Just to be clear, it's 2 rounds of 11 at each park.  So, 22 total at Cuniff and then 22 total at Fink.

No, this is a second change of plans back to the original plan. I talked to Eric last night and Jim's post is the latest info.Eric decided to add Fink back to the mix because it wasn't as bad as he expected upon inspection this morning..

Here's the latest and final (as far as I know) info:

The original format is what we will play on Sat:  2 rounds of 11 holes at Cuniff (2 temp holes) and 2 rounds of 11 holes at Fink (2 temp holes).  We start at Cuniff.  Lunch break between.

Sorry for the confusion.  Hope that straightens it out.  Eric's probably too busy out at the courses today, so he asked Jim to post the change, I'm guessing.

The plan was always to play both Highland Park courses - Cunniff and Fink.  Then with the rain this week we thought that Fink was going to be flooded and we started prepping for playing only Cunniff with 3 or 4 temp holes to make it interesting.

E-Roc, the TD, went out to Fink today and found that the ground is not as bad as originally feared, so we are now good to go on BOTH courses.  We're back to the original plan with 2 temp holes at each course, so 11 holes per course, 2 rounds at each course.  We will start at CUNNIFF, have lunch, then play at FINK.

The bottom line - show up at Cunniff like it has always been planned and we'll tell you what to do after that :)

E-Roc tried to call me but I was at my wife's baby shower with her co-workers, so I'm guessing he then call Jim.

Had a lot of fun in the sun today at this well run tournament. Eric definetly has the players in mind when he runs these. (Well, maybe he could be a bit more fogiving on the temp. hole design, but in all they made you play smart golf)

Discontinuum made a good showing.

"Diabetic" Dave took 1st in Adv. shooting -8

I took 2nd in Intermediate with a +6 & also won 3 CTPs.

Rocky Pebbles won a share of the Ace Pool & also won the Distance Competition, which got him a bag & 12 discs.

Apologize if I've forgetten anyone, I know other people did well also but can't remember who did what.
(Eric will let us know)

Hope to see the rest of you guys at Oly tomorrow.
