Title: New Website
Post by: mirth on March 05, 2007, 08:29:24 PM
I just switched us over to a much more manageable & easy to read content management system!

My hope for this new system is that it will encourage people other than myself to submit content for the website, and that updates won't depend on any single person to get published.

Please give any feedback, positive or negative. Also, let me know if you run into any problems.

Looks good, but all the message board topic links have changed.  All Discontinuum discussion references in my Chicagoland Course Map are now broken.  I guess I have my work cut out for me.

Kurt, I may be able to do something about that on this end. I'll let you know.

It looks good, however, there are a couple things that sort of annoy me.

The fonts are pretty large, but thanks to Firefox's Page Zoom extension, I'm able to shrink it a bit.

Also, the borders on the left and right take up quiet a bit of space.

for the computer I am using the entire page does not fit right.  It's just a bit too big.  Other than that its managable.

yeah, I still need to merge the message board's CSS with Joomla's CSS. Once thats done I think the font size issues will go away.

Wow, thanks Mirth.  That saved me some time indeed.  And thanks for linking the map!

Go go Jooooooooooooooomla!

May want to limit avatar size though as they don't all fit in the alloted space now given through the forum view.

how's text size stuff looking? it seems a little better to me tonight after making a couple changes.

I like the new layout for the most part, but I'm going to be a whiner and wish that the message boards still spanned out to 100% instead of having a size constraint.  I loved browsing the boards with my 22" wide-screen lcd and using up all of the real-estate left to right when reading posts.  Now I don't get that :(  Just a thought.

No, the arcade is gone for a little while. I was having some big issues removing some extraneous mods to the forums last night & I had to remove the arcade as a result. I believe everybody's high scores are safe tho.

And if not, then I guess the title will be back up for grabs! :)

I was just browsing around at some other disc golf websites and came across milehighdiscgolf.com and I really liked how they had the blog set up on the home page as well  as a listing of the top 20 bag tag holders.

Not that you aren't doing enough already mirth, but if you are looking for ideas for the future, those are some good ones!

Apologies to any people out there who may have been trying to register a new account on the site since the switch... Registration was broken until a little while ago.

I'm thinkin that clicking the quote link isn't adding it to the quick reply box.  At least, that's what I see so far.  You can click reply, then click on quote, and it adds it to that box, but not on the quick reply box.

yep. I'm aware of that one....

btw - I added a new chat feature to the site today. Have to be logged in to the site to see the link (should be the last item in the Main Menu).

weird, can only get there through Opera 9.10 - which I just installed.

Did cache refresh, etc etc on the other w/ no luck.

I logged out then logged back in and can now see the new Main Menu :)

Quick job, Mirth.

Post by: mirth on March 12, 2007, 07:06:03 PM
Yeah, the chat's only available to registered users of the site (if you have an account for the message board then you have an account for the site). If you don't see the chat link, log off & back on using the form under the main menu. The chat link should be around the last button in the main menu.

The Bevier Tour link tells me I am not authorized to view that resource.

All the credit in the world to you MIrth.  I know how frustrating all these little quibbles can be.

lol. surprised you can even see that link Kurt. Its supposed to be hidden from non-admins because I'm still re-developing it.

So what does the Check-In My Items link do? I don't see anywhere to checkout stuff. Is there a library where we can now check out MSDGC DVD's or something?  :D
Title: Re: New Website
Post by: mirth on March 14, 2007, 07:22:45 PM
lol. check in my items is directly related to the submit news link. Anyone can submit content to be published on the site. If you submit something you're the 'owner' of those pieces & have the ability to edit them. If you open the item up in the editor but don't close out correctly it will be marked checked out.
check in essentially removes the checked out flag on those items.
