Title: Streamwood Dubs
Post by: WkeBrd3 on April 09, 2007, 08:02:00 PM
The Wood League is up and running. Tomorrow will be the 4th night. As some of you may know, there is a 4 week rotating schedule of tees.

1st week: Regular tees
2nd week: Alternate tees
3rd week: Short tees
4th week: Long tees

Tomorrow will be the 4th week, so we'll be playing from the long tees.

Start time is at 5:30, sharp. (lol)
$5 per person
$2 optional ace and duece fund (for 4 and 15)
Random draw

'Cmon out!

Man 4 and 15 are not even comparable for a deuce fund! I wish I could come out but working downtown is not exactly the best situation for the disc golf lifestyle.

Wasnt it always 4 and 18 for the deuce fund?

Nope. Hole 15 is the 750 footer.

Unless you can throw like Avery Jenkins, duecing that basically is an Ace.
Title: Re: Streamwood Dubs
Post by: Mike S on April 10, 2007, 12:00:28 PM
I'm absolutely sure that me and Jose Diaz won a bunch of money once for deucing hole 18.  That is do-able with a great drive and long jump putt.  Same with 4.  15 would be a long drive and a long fairway ace.

Ive seen both of those holes dueced last year before IOS by the same person.  Too bad they got neither of them during the round.

Do you guys usually draw cards right at 5:30?  I am coming out today but will be leaving Des Plaines around 4:30.  That could cut it close, depending on traffic.

Ok, so I was misinformed yesterday morning. We played the shorts and Matt and Morgan won with a 14 down. Impressive. Elmo and Josh took second with a 13 down. Next week will be the longs.

Additionally, Elmo put bricks down yesterday marking the alternate teepads. Distances are written on the bricks. It turned out really nice. Hopefully they won't get stolen.

Yes, 6:00. We will be playing the regular tees tonight. 25 people showed up last week, and an ace was hit by Nate on hole 1 for $102. The ace will start at $3.50 this week as we had 7 "lavas" last week. We also started a birdie club. That will be starting at $26 tonight, and a deuce on 4 will be worth at least $26 also.

Hey Aaron, thanks for coming out last night. First time out and you draw Cali. ;D

Regarding the club: We started pondering the idea last year, and have actually made some small steps this year. As of right now, we have about 20 dues paying members to the Streamwood Disc Golfers Union. For $15, you'll get a personalized towel and your union card. We're looking into tshirts as well. Our primary emphasis of the club (like you and I talked about last night) is to improve the course. Cement tee pads, new baskets, alternate pin sleeves, etc. We seem to be moving somewhat slow, but at least we're making strides.

Glow? We usually start that right after the time change. Which, isn't that being moved back another month this year???

Instead of capping, what we can do is after a certain number of weeks without it being hit, we can go from 6 holes to 5? Just a thought. We can discuss it as a group at the bar after league next week.

22 people showed up last night for shorts. Juan "Machete" Lopez and I tied Pat Barrett and Mike Strauss at -12 for first and second. Pat and Mike also dueced 15 last night to bring home $200. Back to regular tees next week with the Ace starting at $181, duece on 4 starting at $57 and the birdie pot at $117. 3 groups were one hole a way last night from hitting the birdie club.

We will also be playing some glow this friday at 8:00. Random draw doubles. I have about 20 extra red LED's for sale.

Also, after the time change, we will start our glow league on tueday nights.

Polich said he had scoped out some alternate tees. I am not sure if he meant he was there today. The course is on a hill, so it should only have a few puddles. With all the closed streets is gonna be tough to get out there. My sis was redirected about 10 times on her way to work from Streamwood to Skokie... 2 1/2hrs.

it's next to the ball golf course.  if you're coming from the south on Randall before turning into the place you can see some of the baskets (it would be on your left side).  The ball golf course surrounds a picnic, barn, and park area.

As of right now, we're planning on November 1st. It will be a bring your own partner doubles tournament. We will do two rounds, one during the afternoon, a break for dinner, then a glow round. We'll look at offering two different divisions as well. There will also be a longest drive and putting contest.

Like Machete said, more details to come soon!

Cracker & Scott,
Leagues will start after the time change, and I will post here once they resume.

Cracker,
2009 will be our second year as a club. The membership is $15, and you'll get a bag tag, a stash mini and a dollar off league night. Our home course is Shady Oaks, however, last year made the course unplayable for two weeks, so we had our regular leagues at Randall Oaks. Our league format is random draw doubles, and alternate between 4 different tees (regular, alternate, long, and short). We have an ace pool, birdie club, educe holes, and weekly CTP's. We have a monthly meeting after league at The Chicago Loop, which is right across the street.

23 people last night. Matt Polich and Morgan Fredericks beat Juan Lopez and Elmo is a playoff after both groups shot a 12 down. Brad Seagert took the CTP on hole 2 to take home a bottom stamped Teebird.

The course is now dry, however, some of the teepads are still a problem. Getting the park district to fill the pads with woodchips by saturday probably won't happen. We have been having MAJOR issues with the Parks and Recreation lady, but we have a meeting with the Streamwood Board on Tuesday to try and resolve our issues with the course. I know this doesn't help out for Saturday, but we've now gone over the P&R lady's head, and have the President of the Streamwood Board of directors promising us cement teepads by the end of the year. We'll see how that goes....

Garbage cans were removed from the course for winter, and have yet to be replaced. Sean Butler was out there for a few hours yesterday and filled about 4 garbage bags full of trash. Before leagues last night, I saw one of the PD workers, and begged him to get the rest of the trash picked up before Saturday. It's not horrible, just a little embarrassing. I had a couple members last night saw that they would come out later in the week and help with some of the trash removal as well.

Now, we have a hole that we play every week for leagues, that isn't a regular hole on the course. After playing 13 (up by the playground), we walk along the sidewalk and throw down to 11's basket. It's a really great hole, and we were wondering if this was a hole that could be played on saturday.

BTW, Bartlett's teepads are in pretty poor shape too, but the rest of the course is in good shape as well.

Since Saturday will be a full field of players, it's not really possible to use one target for two different holes.

Tomorrow will be the first night of our fall glow league. We will be starting right at dark, which should be between 6:45 - 7:00.

I plan to run this for 6 - 8 weeks, and will keep track of points just like I did for our Spring and Summer leagues.

The cost will be $7 (plus a buck for Non-SDGU members).
$5 will go towards nightly payouts.
$1 to the Ace.
$1 towards overall series payouts.

The overall series payouts will be as follows:

1st 30%
2nd 25%
3rd 20%
4th 15%
5th 10%

I have many LED's for sale. $3 a piece.
