Are we still atending the Park District meeting at Gurnee tommorrow?
I do believe so. I know I intend on going.
Who is expected to be there?
Yeah, I think the park board was intrigued by our proposal and I think they'll at least give it some thought. I'll have to keep an eye on their website for the minutes from last night as well as the agenda for next month's meeting.
This is awesome news, but I'll take it with a grain of salt until I hear the word from the man himself.... (I didn't get no stinking email..... :`()
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but it really sounded to me like they are considering it as a possibility for their next fiscal year, which most likely runs from July 2003 thru July 2004. Definately a decent glimmer of hope, but also not a sure thing yet.
For those interested, here's the email. I say everyone email the park department and show your support for a _CHAMPIONSHIP_LEVEL_COURSE_ in Gurnee!!! (think SuperTour event in 2005... yum!)
]Dear Jim:
]
]Thank you for coming to last month's Park Board meeting. Your Disc Golf
]proposal will be reviewed as we look at our capital projects for next year.
]We currently do not have funds available in this year's budget to purchase
]and install a golf course of this nature in the amount of $7,500. However,
]we will take it into consideration as we do our budget planning for next
]year. Also, we are concerned about the amount of acreage necessary. What
]is the least amount needed?
]
]Thanks again for keeping us in mind.

What a positive evening!
THANKS to Brett, Mirth, and Jay for coming out, helping prepare, and voicing their opinions! If it had been only me at the GPD Board meeting, I doubt people would have paid as much attention; but with the four of us there, a good first impression seems to have been made.
They did seem interested and maybe even impressed. Audience members even acknowledged disc golf's credibilty and fun. Good timing, too, as the Gurnee Park District is discussing a major land acquisition project and are open to alternative ways of using the land. If we do proper follow-up steps, we might actually see a course in Gurnee someday soon! THANKS again, guys!
Thanks, Brett!
Sorry about not forwarding it to everyone. I'll resend it later today so y'all can stay in the loop. Wasn't intentionally skipping anyone, just busier than .....
I was planning on going.
I know the meeting starts @ 7:00PM. Jim is planning on getting there around 6:30PM. Does anyone have the address?
I'll answer my own question. Went to the Gurnee Parks Page. Viking Park Dance Hall, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, IL 60031
Jim is the MAN!!!!!!!!!! (even if he has warts on his small penis) Jim had a sweet proposal to hand out the the Gurnee Park District. He did one hell of a job presenting the information. He should be a salesman. They sounded very interested & there was input from others from the Gurnee Youth Camps. They said they took the kids to Adler to play disc golf & they loved it. One of the board members said her son loves disc golf. Let's cross our fingers & hope they contact us.
I don't know why it took me so long to get this on here. I think it would be a good idea for all of us to e-mail the park district in support to Jim's proposal. http://www.gurneeparkdisctrict.com gpd@gurneeparkdistrict.com
Got an e-mail from Jim. Said that Gurnee is going to try to budget a disc golf course for 2003. SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!
I am at school & can't remember the exact amount. They were going to budget in the ballpark area of $7,500 for the course. No specifics on the types of baskets but I though Jim used Mach V for all proposals.
How rude, neither did I :-) Jim do you know what type of course they are budgeting for? 36 hole cement tee Mach V solar domes super tour quality?
Well they have the money and we can dream can't we?
