Title: Disc Golf TV
Post by: CEValkyrie on June 04, 2007, 01:41:04 PM
If you haven't seen the putt by Cale hit at the MN Majestic to force a playoff with Climo check out www.discgolftv.com

Sick!

I can't believe that Climo called Cale for "throwing" his putter on the ground while he was running around excitedly. I guess rules are rules, but I was glad to hear that no one would second it.

Did Climo really call him?  I did not see that.  The putt was awsome and the situation was dramatic.  I don't see why Cale would have been called for anything.  Rule 800 states:

Practice Throw: During a round, the projection of a disc of a distance greater than two meters, or of any distance toward a target, intentional or not, which does not change the player's lie, either because it did not occur from the teeing area or the lie, or because the player had already thrown competitively from the teeing area or the lie. Throws that are re-thrown in accordance with the rules are not practice throws. Provisional throws made pursuant to 803.01 C and 803.01 D (3) are not practice throws. A player shall receive a penalty for a practice throw in accordance with sections 803.01 B or 804.02 A (2).

Cale after running around and hugging people threw it straight down about one meter and not in any way towards a target.  He essentially spiked it like a football player after a touchdown.  Is this a courtesy violation?  Further, is he even in play?  Does the round end when he picks his disc out of the basket?  Until all the cards are turned in and the TD says its a tie, the players do not begin a playoff.  That is essentially an addendum to the round. I think his theatrics occured after the round and before the playoff.  Why couldn't he launch the thing as far as he wants at that time?

Awesome putt!!!

It is a poorly written rule. The intent of the rule is fine. Disc Golf unfortunalty has a few rules with a valid intents that are poorly written. This is just 1 example. If Climo did do that I am glad that no one would second it.

Imagine being called for this. What if you drop your driver ontop of your bag and it rolled 2 or more meters away from your bag? What if you were picking up your disc from under the basket you hit the basket and the putter falls out of your hand and rolls away 2 or more meters?

My apologies for hickjacking the thread for a bit.

Doesn't surprise me in the least.

Me neither, but Jon and I have probably seen Kenny play more rounds than most of you.

Further apologies for continuimg off topic, but didn't exaclty that happen to Barry and cost him a stroke and some $?

...And that putt was insane.  And to make it in such a clutch situation?  Guess that's what the greats do.

the new shot of the day for June 5th with Des is amazing too.  I wonder how big of a crowd was watching them play because it was a pretty good reaction for Cale's and Des' shot.

i guess climo really pushed for a long time to have him stroked.  then after the playoff was over, climo and cale got into some heated exchange.

as far as the rule goes, it doesn't apply becasue the round was over once he retrieved his disc from the basket as chuck kennedy said.

Kenny has always been a rules abuser.  He has this patented move for putting out of the waist high weeds at Hudson Mills.  He lines up his putt.  Then he runs from his mark up to the basket to adjust a chain.  Then he runs from the basket back to his mark to attempt the putt.  Meanwhile he has tramped down all the waist high grass along his flight path.

If you're talking about where Barry gacked the drop-in putt at USDGC a couple years ago.... no, that's not the same thing, he hadn't putted out, it was the middle of the round, that was a legal stroke. It did cost him some money though.

In looking at that video, I wouldn't have even called what Cale did a 'spike'.  ;)

I heard he picked up a putt under the basket and in doing so hit the basket and dropped the putter.  But I have no idea what truth there is to the story.

i have watched the video seveal times.  he attempted to make the putt by dropping it in, but couldn't quite reach and when he hit the outside of the bin the putter fell out of his hand.  its not like he picked up the putter and accidentally droppped it.

Dan is correct, and you won't hear that very often.  ;)

Yeah.  It was just a big oops.  He didn't spike or drop it like Cale.  He just missed a drop in.  There was some discussion about the video at the time. A ball golf analogy is that he missed a tap in.

Ever since that I always put a so-called drop in firmly on the bottom of the basket.
