Title: June 30th, 2007 - Grip It and Rip It
Post by: stpitner on June 06, 2007, 12:14:20 PM
The Disc Golf Alley Club of Illinois in conjunction with the Roselle Park District is proud to present "Grip It and Rip It" at Goose Lake Park in Roselle on June 30th, 2007.

The park district has restored all of the baskets to "new" condition for this event, and they are also going to do some landscape work this week to make things even better.  We encourage everyone to come out to help support their efforts to keep disc golf going there despite someone in the area that opposes the course.

We need at least 15 people to pre-register for the event in order for the event to happen, and the field maxes out at 45.

Fees to enter are:

Advanced = $15 (before June 15th)
Intermediate = $15 (before June 15th)
Recreational = $15 (before June 15th)

Registration is required for all players.

Please, no same day registrations. Early Bird registration by JUNE 15th will receive a discount and pay only $15.00!  Registrations received after June 15th will be charged $25.00.

We will be playing 2 rounds of 9 holes.

Each person will receive a tourney hot stamped Quest disc sponsored by John McHan, a fellow DGAC club member.  He will also be handling the registrations for this event.

To pre-register, you can send in a check or money order to:

John McHan
908 Thorney lea Terrace
Schaumburg, IL 60193

For online pre-registration, PayPal payments are accepted.  The payment address is mcnip@yahoo.com.  There is a $2 convenience fee to cover the PayPal charges.

Come on out and enjoy the fun!

Scott
VP, Disc Golf Alley Club of Illinois

Checkin will be at or around 9AM, and a players meeting at 9:30.  It's scheduled to last until 5, but with only 2 rounds of 9 it shouldn't take anywhere near as long.  It's a great way to get more people in this area involved in the sport!  Bring your family - there's a great playground available at the park as well.

The 3 different codes are for Advanced, Intermediate, and Recreational.  There is some more information at that page.

based on the low entry fees am I safe in assuming this is non-sanctioned?

David,

You are correct.  This will be a non-sanctioned event.  It is being co-hosted by the DGAC Club along with the Roselle Park District.  We are trying to promote disc golf in the area.

It will consist of 2 rounds of 9 (possibly 10 w/ temp hole) holes.

There will be a CTP on every hole.

There will be  a "Rip-It for RoccoVino's" Putting Contest after the tournament.  Pizza/food Certificates will be given out as prizes.  The contest will be broken down by division.

Okay,

So, 3 people have already pre-registered for this event.

There will be a CTP on every hole.

3 for Rec.
3 for Int.
3 for Adv.

The temp hole will have a 50-50 CTP, with half of the proceeds
going to the Roselle Park District.

Each CTP has the chance to win a Quest Disc.

I will be picking up 9 certificates tomorrow for the Rip It for
RoccoVinos Putting contest. 3 per division.

There will be a lot of stuff given away at Grip It and Rip It. So,
I would encourage you to pre-register.

Eric

A few modifications were made, and so, here is the final Hot Stamping Logo.

The Roselle Park District Logo was added.
The text was made larger.
There is a slight crack above where the disc is starting to rip.

I just received word from the Park District..........and, the $10.00 late fee has been dropped...due to lack of pre-registration.

You can show up on the 30th and only pay the $15.00.

If 15 players are not pre-registered by the 23rd, the park district is going to have to cancel the event.

How will the 50-50 CTP work?  You put in $x dollars to earn a throw on the CTP and then if you win the CTP you get half the money put in for that CTP hole?  Do you need to pay for each round's attempt or is it 1 time for all day?

The 50-50 CTP works like this:

It will be $2.00 to get in.

$1.00 goes to the Park District for cours improvements.
$1.00 goes to the Pot

One entry per player.

The winner will receive half the pot, and the park district will get the other half.

There will only be one 50-50 CTP, and will be for both rounds.  Since it will be 2 rounds of 10 holes,
all players will have 2 chances on their respective CTP's.

We have enough people pre-registered that this event WILL go on... so make sure to come on out and help support the Roselle Park District!  It would be great to show support for the courses in this general area and hopefully encourage them to install better and larger ones as well!

The trophy discs look really nice.  Eric ordered enough trophies that your chances of winning one might be 50/50.  Dyed ESP discs.  Three each for Rec, Int and Advanced.  I'm off to the post office with them now.

We currently have 24 pre-registered players for Saturday's event.

I picked up the hot stamped discs and t-shirts yesterday.  I have to go to the post office after work today and pick up the package from Bruce.  I have 20  t-shirts made with the tournament information on them.

5 Gray L
5 White L
5 Gray XL
5 White XL

The cost of the t-shirts is $10

If you want one and I don't have your size, I can special order it for you.  You can just pay me the $10 on Saturday, along with the shirt size, and I will get it to you....OR, if you want it shipped, the cost will be $15.

We will be giving away a lot of stuff this weekend.  The weather looks great!

Looking forward to a fun time.

Come on out and help support the Roselle Park District and play a fun 9-hole course.

I will be up at the park around 7:00 setting up.

Registration will open up at 8:00 and end at 9:00 or until it maxes out.

If there are a lot of extra players, I will add 5 spots maxing out the event at 50 players.

This will put 5 on a card.

Good times today!  I think our final numbers were 45 players for the tournament, and it was all done well before 3, rock on :)  Eric and all put on a great show, thanks to the park district for helping out!

I look forward to playing in this event again next year, with food involved too!

It was a fun time and my first completed tournament in over a year! Tom McVP did well as did Mike Krupicka. I'm sure there were other Discontinuum members that played well but I just don't remember. Mike Walsh and Becky split the ace fund on a throw off and Becky threw like 5th or something so she set the bar early.

Eric did a really good job with the reindeer games between the round and the awards. I won a Roc and said "first one that raises their hand who has fewer discs than fingers can have it" and I threw it to the first guy who raised his hand. After the awards I saw the dude get up and carry a bag with at least 12 discs in it. Dude must have a lot of fingers!

Thanks Jon and Becky and Maddisen too for coming out to play!  I think there were about 9 discontinuum tags that were collected and exchanged, so it was nice to see discontinuum members out there playing.  Thanks for the added representation :)

Congrats on finishing Jon!  You finished top 5 as well did you not?  If not it was very close!

Becky beat me by inches on that throw off, congrats!

Thanks to Eric, and all who helped out and to the Roselle Park District for fixing up the course and helping with the event, and to Quest for the sponsorship.  And thanks to Bruce; the trophy disc i got is awesome.  I think you're skills are improving.  It was a good time.  Next year it will be a full two rounds of 20...awesome.

The course looked absolutely amazing today.  I had never played 6-9 before today, and man... hopefully they will keep it groomed as time passes on like it was today because it was beautiful.  I loved the look of the landscape of hole 8 as I walked up towards it.  I didn't like that someone on the path didn't pick up the dog poop, but that's not the park district's fault!

They even mowed greens around the baskets for this tournament, awesome, awesome job.

I overheard Chado talking to one of the park district guys, and they are VERY interested in adding some new holes to that course sometime mid-to-late next year.  They said the current pin placements would probably stay, but there was some rough off after 6 where they said they have plenty of room to add some stuff.  Hopefully they can make some more nice holes in there!

Too bad I'm moving back to Algonquin in August because I think I'm going to have to go out and play this course a lot more often now!

It is true!  During the tournament, Alicia and I were talking to the Park District, and they confirmed that they will be turning Goose Lake Park into an 18-hole course within the next 2 years.  They might move a couple of the original holes, but when it comes time, I will be going out there and helping them design the other 9 holes.

Congrats to all the winners!

And, Again, Thanks to everyone that came out, from DGAC, Discontinuum, Roselle, and others.

This was my first maxed tournament, and I am looking forward to making it bigger and better next year.  Time to start planning. ;D

I had a really good time yesterday.  I thought that The Roselle Park District did a great job getting this course ready.  Guys from the park district were out there spotting and they even set up a portable gazebo and card table with water at hole 4.  We had a local guy in our group playing disc golf for the first time.  It seemed like he had a really good time and I think the competitive side in him will drive him to keep playing & improving.  Getting the local people out on the course for the first time made for a successful tournament in itself.  Great job, Eric!

I can't remember what I did for the Grip It trophies, but I don't think i did anything different from what I'm doing for the Rockford trophies.  The rockford trophies are mostly red, white and blue because they had mostly blue hot stamps but there are some red, yellow and orange fire patterns.

The XLs had a dayglo yellow center that looked sweet through the stamp. Mine was a Meteor with a tear drop pattern. Since I cracked my stratus last week, I have to decide: Hang or throw?

Bruce- Do you have any D stratus in your supply?

Mine was an XL.  It had a yellow center with a red swirl and a circle of flames around that with a red border (I think there was some Blue as well).  The flames looked really good.  I haven't seen your IOS ones for, um, obvious reasons.  But these look better than i remember the Irish ones looking.

I'll give you one brass for the cracked Stratus if you still have it.  You should try throwing the Meteor for Status type throws and see how it does.  It probably is not understable enough, but you should try it.

I know I have X Strati.  Not sure about D.  Not close to the inventory right now.

Fun playing with you too.  Always good to put faces to names and actually meet the people on the board.  And it was good to have an experienced player in the group.  Weird to think that without you in the group I would have been the experienced one (since I've played about 8 tournaments ever).   It was a bit odd playing with newbies who had no experience with etiquette and rules, but also a good thing, I think, to bring the to worlds together.

Sorry the last holes were brutal, you did seem ready to be done by the end.
