Title: How do you...
Post by: SIUFrolf on June 28, 2007, 09:20:11 AM
remove permanent marker from discs without removing the stamps. Is it possible?  I am donating some discs to my church's youth group for their rummage sale and I would like to have my phone number and info removed before someone else buys it.  If there is no way then I guess I'll just go over it with marker and black it out.  It'll look like a disc the CIA got to with all the blacked out words.

depends.... sometimes sharpie can be taken out w/rubbing alcohol. a lot of plastics are porous & the only real option is to black it out.

I found that sharpie on discs found in the bottom of the Lombard lagoon tend to be able to be wiped off easier. Just leave them in there for a week.  :D

Haha, I'll have togo throw a handful of rags because after I wipe the water off, it'll burst into flames.  Not to mention the Boils and Leprosy that will most likely occur when coming in contact.

I've heard hairspray works.

We use those Mr. Clean magic pads to erase sharpie from punch down blocks. I'll try tonight at home to see if that works on discs also.

Oddly enough I've also had luck removing Sharpie with Off Skintastic. Just don't use the kind with Deet in it, because Deet is bad for the plastic.

i work in a chemistry lab and if u let me take it to work i can mostly get rid of it for you.  otherwise ur best shot is rubbing alcohol like mirth said or nail polish remover.

if deet is bad for plastic then wat is it doing to our skin?

nail polish remover or anything containing acetone will also take off the stamp. you've been forewarned.

deet may be bad for plastic but it keeps the mosquitos and ticks from getting you....

I sprayed Deep Woods Off on the plastic face of a cheap watch when spraying my arm.  An hour later, the watch face was frosted over as the Off was eating through the face of it.  I still use a lot of it as horse flies and skeeters are worth the risk.

deet will also destroy elastic. any of you disc golfers with socks that are all loose at the top should know this by now.
