Title: Summit Park
Post by: ChrisPUTTS on July 11, 2007, 11:44:03 PM
First off let me start by saying i am a new player.  Been playing for 6 weeks.  My home courses being Joliet, New Lenox, Mokena, and Olympia Fields.  Now i am just a chucker learning to play the game, but i have improved greatly and am now shooting below the course listed pars. Olympia Fields being the hardest to do so of these four courses...

I checked out the Summit course on Wednesday.  Wow, is that what they call a techinal course.  It appeared to be a challanging, frustrating example of what you get with ten foot wide "fairways" and plenty of little trees that appear to know how to reach out and knock down your disc.   I had fun but must say that i was well over par both times i played.

It appears holes 13 and 15 still did not have teepads so i guess thats the way it is going to stay.  I was going to take some pictures but forgot my camera at home, i was wondring if this is the cleared out verison of the course, or if it was worse at one point.  What has everybody shot over there?

That course is brutal, no doubt.

Here is a thread with answers to some of your questions.

My co-worker and I just ran into someone yesterday that said that some of the holes had actually been cleared out some more than they originally were, so my guess is that you were playing the cleared out version.

I wonder how the turnout will be to the Summit Open on July 21st/22nd.

I'll probably go as it's kinda close to me & it's sanctioned. It'll be funny to see what the rounds are rated out there. I played this course last year & had a horrible time. Hopefully there are actually fairways out there. Just remember to bring bug spray & nose plugs for the stank-air in Summit

I'm not sure it's a good overhand course to be honest.

I'll be out there on the 22nd I believe. My guess is that a few over will be SSA, but I could be wrong.

Played here today to see how much, if any, clearing had been done to the course & see if I wanted to play the tournament next Saturday. Needless to say I'll be finding something else to do.

There has been some small clearing, but still it's basically a very tight or no window shot, usually no more than 250'. First 5? holes are all basically the same, 210' hyzer. I like wooded, but this is ridiculous.

What is SSA?

Scratch Scoring Average (or something similar). the expected score of a 1000-rated player on a given course.

I think. But I'm too tired to look it up, McManus. Some people played two tournaments this weekend and are a bit old & worn out, y'know....  ;)

Uhhh, I think he was just asking what SSA was at this course, Damon.

Brett, you're the only Pro I know who has played here, what do you estimate the SSA for Summit would be?

OK, I finally came back out of retirement and played this course. First of all, the fairways are fair. They are not ridiculous as stated by many. They are tight but only one was even silly. It reminds me a lot of the courses back in NC, hit your line or pay. I like that. That said, the first 17 holes are all hyzers. That IS silly. That is ridiculously silly. My God play half the holes in reverse and it'd be great! Overall, a fun course that could be much better but definitely different from the typical wide open Illinois course. Hope I hit my lines Sunday.

Any lefties play this course yet? All this talk about hyzers makes me think this is a course a left handed person would RALLY love. :icon_lol:

No, Damon was correct. I didn't know what SSA meant, for this course or any other.

If the wind stays down, I think the hot Open round will be -4. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if someone broke 50. The course has really opened up since last summer.

yeah everybody complaines to much. There are lines and if you hit them you will score well. If you dont then you wont. Its just trickier than open courses more penalizing
