Hey all,
I'm teaching two large groups of 1st-5th graders (about 200 total kids) how to play disc golf on Monday, July 16th. I helped out with this group last year and set up a temp course of 12 holes using hula-hoop targets and other goofy type of targets out on a very open field. I just found out yesterday that this year they are hoping that I could set up the course on a parking lot for the kids. The problem with that is that my hula-hoop targets were attached to dowel rods that were pounded into the ground. I can't do that on a parking lot!
So I was thinking that I could possibly use portable baskets instead. I own 3. So far I'm meeting up wtih a guy to get one more. I need about 12 to accomodate all of these kids. Can some people help me out with lending me a basket? It may take some work on coordinating the pickup the basket, but let me know if you have one and where you live and your availability. I will NOT be at mokena this weekend, but if there are enough people with enough baskets I may be swayed to go out there in the morning or the afternoon after the tournament to pick everything up.
I may try to pick up some of those Quest baskets that Eric was showing off at Roselle, who knows if I can get them that fast.
Thanks!
Scott
What a great thing you are doing for the kids. I have a skillshot and a M-14 if you would like to borrow them. I am in Aurora and will be at Mokena on Sunday. Let me know.

I have a skillshot if you want to borrow it. I am not playing anywhere this weekend. (shame, I really like Mokena). If you can find a way to get it, I can pick it up at Fink Monday night. I might not make it in time to play but could make it up there before you guys are done. That being said, how in the world are you able to schedule things with the Mrs. being, as they say in skydiving lingo, "over the drop zone."?
I will want to get the basked back as I am in Milwaukee the following week and plan to practice putting as much as possible.
David
The club has 4 DGA baskets. I own 2 chainstars. If you are interested in those 6 baskets let me know. All members are welcome to barrow them as long as they arrange a timely pickup & dropoff.
where ?
I have an M-14 that you are welcome to borrow. I will be at Mokena on Sunday and will be playing in the Joliet area on Saturday.
There is a 50/50 chance I'll be at Mokena Sunday. I could bring a bunch of Skillshots and get them back two weeks from now in Milwaukee.
Meanwhile, check your e-mail on our other deal. Marty backed out.

Perhaps I can pick those up on Saturday? I don't mind going out to Aurora, it's about 30-40 minutes away from me in Carol Stream. Plus if I wind up having to take my wife to the hospital anytime soon she's going to deliver at Delnor in St Charles. I'll send you a PM.

Dave - If I get the ones from Aaron and Brett and maybe even Bruce, then you can go ahead and hang onto yours and get in as much putting practice as you need! I'm not 100% sure I can make it out to Highland park on monday because the event ends at 12:30, and I won't be done cleaning up until close to 2:30. I was VERY drained after last year... this year will be slightly cooler, but still tiring!
Yes, she's over the "drop zone", but they just contacted me about 2 weeks ago about doing this, so it's all been pretty last minute. I told them that if she does go in to the hospital, I will still at least get the equipment there and get it ready for setting up and then they could just have the kids play (she was there last year so she would know what to do) On top of that it's at a church in St. Charles about 10 minutes from the hospital, so Sara and I will be able to work things out should anything happen.

Brett, that would be AWESOME to be able to make use of those. I'll send you a PM and see what we can do to borrow and return ASAP.

Christ Community Church in St. Charles IL off Randall Rd north of Rt. 64. They have about 75+ in the first group of 1st-2nd graders and then 100+ in the 3rd-5th grade group. All kids will get a free frisbee that goes every direction in the world because of the wind!

Jonathan - As soon as I find out from Bruce if he's going to be at Mokena or not, I'll see what I can do. If I get 6 from Brett and 2 from Aaron, that would put me at 12. However, if I want to make smaller groups of kids so that they can spread out more, the more baskets the merrier. Each hole is only like 50-120 feet, but that's because these kids are throwing frisbees that don't go very far at all.

Bruce,
Let me know as soon as you can if you will be at Mokena. If you are I will get out there in the afternoon after the round is over and pick up the stuff from you and Jonathan. How many skillshots do you have at your disposal?
Thanks all! If anyone wants to come out and help it's at 37W100 Bolcum Rd in St. Charles. Just google map for Christ Community Church, St. Charles, IL. It's at letter A. The event starts at 9 AM, but the first pack of kids come out at 10AM i think. Then it's all done at 12:30. I'm going to try to get out there at 6 AM to lay out the baskets and tees and maybe measure distances if I have time. The stuff I would need help with is just while the kids are on the course maybe teaching them how to throw backhand, how to maybe twist their hips or move their arms to get a better throw, how to WAIT before running after their frisbee lol, and also directing them to the next hole. I didn't teach them how to throw a frisbee last year, and it didn't dawn on me until I saw them throwing that they had no idea how to throw a frisbee (some of them at least). Some were trying to throw it like a baseball (but not holding the frisbee like it would be a roller, think more like a ping pong paddle)
It's on Monday morning, July 16th. BRING SUNSCREEN if you do come out to help!
Thanks all,
Scott
Scott, I have a chainstar I can bring to the church on Monday. I can pick it up afterwards as well.
Kurt, that would be awesome, thanks!
I hope the chains on all these baskets don't make these frisbees just bounce right back out haha, but at least with a round target they can shoot from any direction towards the basket instead of the hula hoop where you needed to get it through from one side or the other.
Hope to see a bunch of you at Mokena tomorrow night at the end of the rounds to pick up the baskets :) I'll have a big huge van with me to pick them up!
Thanks so much everyone for your help! I'll see to it that all baskets are returned in a timely manner!
Thanks eveyrone for the help! Tonight I picked up 8 baskets at Mokena, and that will put me at 12 for all of the kids. When Kurt stops by in the morning that will put me at 13. I unfortunately couldn't coordinate a good time with Brett to pick up the 6 that he had available, but I think the kids will do well with the 13! Besides, I might run out of parking lot space anyway with just these ;) Break out the 50 - 75 foot holes and let them have some fun!
Awesome job on helping me out on such short notice!
