Thanks. I think the SuperColors may end up in the player packs, but I'm not sure what the final decision was.
Serg might know.

We're still discussing the player packs. Can't really give a "good" comment right now. I'll post when I know more. For now, we can assume it's a 50/50 chance it will be part of the player pack  ;D

HOLSTEN BASKET RAFFLE!!!!!

The Prairie Open will be holding a raffle for a Holsten Basket (for those that don't know, the same designer of the Am Worlds basket). Details are still being finalized.

Sunday will also feature a raffle including the opportunity to win a few other baskets.

Proceeds from both raffles will be used to complete a new, permanent 9-hole course behind Tallent Hall on campus (east of Hole #4).

I depends on how my putter is working that day.............

Actually, there is a good chance there might be ONE blood red out there.

The discs are in, saw them last night. They turned out pretty nice.

Who's planning on playing? I don't see very many people on the pre-reg list so far, please don't wait until the day of if you don't have to.

We will likely have at least three extra holes (possibly four) (Because of construction we may need to "borrow" one or two of the IOS placements. Who do I talk to about copyright infringement?  ;D )

BASKETS ARE IN TOURNY POSITION

Open, Pro Masters, Advanced Men: plan on playing two rounds from the long tees (#8 ludacris long).
Pro Grandmasters and everyone else will play short tees.
If we have any Pro Women this year we'll determine those tees later.

Here is the breakdown for the current 18:
1. A
2. B
3. B
4. B
5. A
6. A
7. A
8. A
9. A
10. To the right of A
11. B
12. B
13. B
14. A
15. B
16. C
17. B
18. A

Will basket 16 be in the deep, right position in the woods, or in the short, right position just inside the woods?

#16 will be deep into the woods.

RAFFLE! RAFFLE! RAFFLE!
Bring your dinero!

If you are not currently aware, we will be putting in a new, permanent 9-hole course behind Tallent Hall (east of holes #4 and #5). In an effort to generate funding for teepads, signage, etc. we will be holding a raffle of various things. There will be two separate raffles (actually three). One will be solely on Saturday; one will solely on Sunday; and the Infamous Holsten Basket will be raffled all weekend.

that hole gets pretty interesting especially from the long tees, are we playing two longs or one of each?

Serg,

How much of the course is  currently underwater?
Title: Re: 2007 Prairie Open - UW-Parkside
Post by: SERG on August 20, 2007, 11:36:16 AM
#16 is not in the woods more often because the university says so. That's the only reason I know. It's more of a "tourny only" position. We will try and put it in the position hopefully tomorrow. There is still some clean-up work to be done for that setting.

Saturday players will play two rounds from the long tees (except Grandmasters who will play two from the short tees). #8 LONG LONG tee pad will be used if the water subsides. Currently about 3-4 inches of water back there.
Sunday players will play two rounds from the short tees.

The course did not play bad yesterday. The worst area of water was on the ludacris long tee placement for hole #8. You can see where the water has been travelling based on the "wood chip canals" in the woods. There is a little standing water by #17's basket. We have leagues tomorrow so I'll update the water condition.

CHANGE IN TOURNY CENTRAL

Please note that due to construction of the new student union, tournament central will be located near hole #16, inside the building. This presents two locations for possible parking:
1. Communication Arts Parking Lot;
2. Union Parking Lot (the usual one by hole #1).
The walk from the Communication Arts parking lot is probably a little closer. Follow the sidewalk upward (not into the building) and keep going straight. You'll walk right into hole #16.

Sergio,

After being gone for Am & Pro Worlds I made a compromise to spend the weekend with my wife at the DMB concert at Alpine Valley so I won't be there.

Check this link. Adam Olsen & i'm sure some of the QC Boys that played last year might come. You might want to convince them. Any added cash?

Carla is going to the same concert and probably won't be playing on Sunday. Enjoy the concert!

I'll look at the thread. Not sure about added cash...I'll talk to Dennis.

NO NEED TO WORRY...COURSE IS LOOKING GREAT!

Our facilities crew has done a trememdous job at taking great care of the course these past couple of weeks. They've wood chipped, as of yesterday, every wooded hole. I would like to publicly thank them for all of their hardwork. They've come in on their off time to do extra work.

The ludacris long tee on hole #8 is under water. I don't think we'll be able to use that tee. The pond is back in the wooded area between hole #5 and #6. The long tee on #5 was nearly submersed in water.

If you played the Big Chill here you won't have any problems playing this weekend! Same thing, just different

Don't forget your extra money for a chance to win a HOLSTEN BASKET !

SuperColor Buzzz

I'm not sure of the models being sold. I know there will be quite a few Innova models. I'm not sure of the Discraft models. We're supposed to receive some Millenium models as well.

The Prairie Open website has the Innova hotstamp at the top of the page.

The SuperColor design looks like the poster that Kyle posted earlier on this thread.

To my knowledge, the player's pack will consist of the disc and funny money. Not quite sure what else. Funny money will be able to be used toward merchandise as well as food service. We will again have food avaialble for lunch.

Title: Re: 2007 Prairie Open - UW-Parkside
Post by: shawn on August 24, 2007, 07:27:31 AM
I'm heading out to work on the course in a few minutes..  played it last night and the only holes that were bad were hole 5 and the super long #8 which is under water as well as the teepads on #5.  If you go more then 5ft left of the fairway on hole 5, you will be in 3-6 inches of water...  same goes for throwing  to far left on hole 6.

Other then that the course is in great shape.

If you are practicing today and you see a wheelbarrow in the fairway,  please either skip the hole or let us know that you want to throw a disc at us...

We are playing long both rounds. Hole * will be from the super long for the 2nd round. Considering the bad weather and all the flooding, does anyone know the status for tomorrow?

both rounds are from the longs on Saturday, and hole #8 will be played from the middle tee.  The 550ft tee is under water.  The rest of the course is playable, as of 7:30 tonight.

Definitely one of the best run tourneys I have been to! Players packs were sweet, course setup was sweet, preparation was sweet, 10 meter circles were sweet, and somehow the water really didn't affect much overall other than the lack of skips.

My only suggestion is to remeasure 4A for Sunday!

I assume the GMs played the shorts the 1st round and maybe even the 2nd? Those are some pretty phenomenal ratings otherwise...  :o
Title: Re: 2007 Prairie Open - UW-Parkside
Post by: kyle on August 26, 2007, 07:10:12 PM
Yeah they played the shorts both rounds.

4A was a typo on the flag, it was somewhere around 350 or 360, not 260.

While spotting on Saturday I discovered that my head attracts discs like a magnet. (spotting 2 holes at once) As a result, next year I'll be taking cash donations (to benefit the course) for specific places you would like me to stand before your drive in hopes of keeping people out of the prairie.  ;)

Thanks to everyone who came out, hopefully everyone had a great time. Next year I hope we can avoid the 4 hour rounds for everyone playing on the upper day.

So a Grandmaster throwing a 58 off the short tees in the first round on Saturday rates 982 while an Intermediate throwing to the same pin locations from the same tees in round 1 on Sunday rates 947.  Must have been pretty brutal out there Saturday morning.  >:D

I don't know if the conditions warrant that big of a spread, but I do believe the conditions were pretty miserable Saturday morning. It had rained just about all Friday night so the branches were over loaded with water making a lower ceiling.  The humidity was higher on Saturday and the course hadn't had much play during the week.  Everything seemed more overgrown than normal. With 80+ players on the course on Saturday, it may have opened up the throwing lanes a little bit for the rounds on Sunday.  On the other hand I could be completely off base.

Just saw that they changed the online report and separated out the GMs (which Kurt was referring to), so ignore my original post if you saw it; and last night's too, for that matter.

Plug those scores and those ratings into the ratings spreadsheet, though, and that's pretty close to where the round ratings come out for that pool.

It was nice to have the course in the toughest positions for the short time it was.  We are looking forward to next year, as there will be some changes in the course with the construction and new 9 holes that will be going in.

Would you guys be interested in a 2 day event out here?  Standing Rocks style event?

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
To all who attended and all who volunteered their time, sweat, blood, mosquito bites, bee stings, etc. (especially those who put in the hard work to make sure the course was as playable as it could be considering the amount of rain we accumulated).

The Holsten Basket was won by Arlene Ruffalo (a professor here at the university).

There were 176 participants over the two days of competition.
Congratulations to all of the division winners.

Special thanks to all those who participated in the raffle. Your generosity is always appreciated.
Huge thanks to all of our sponsors. Please visit www.prairieopen.com to see a list of our sponsors.

As any event, we are always looking to improve for the following year. Please send any comments/suggestions through email or PM to me. BE HONEST (I think I can handle it the truth).

Thanks, again, and I hope to see you next year...or probably at the next IOS event.

Having a Higher rating is really what changed my game completely.   When I was 920 rated my putt just would not go in no matter what, then when the PDGA gave me a higher rating all of those same putts just started to magically go in.  For all of those rating whores out there, I have some info on how to improve your rating whore technique.  Only play tourneys on your home courses and practice the perfect throw for every hole.  If you like to tee off from a certain side of every tee pad make sure to grease the other side down so your opponents consistently fall on there ass from each tee, the thing about ratings is that when other people in the tourney do bad it makes it look like your doing a lot better, thus giving you a higher rating for your normal round.  Also try to get the TD to make OB in places you never come near but you see your opponents get close to.  If you want further advice on how to become the best rating whore just send me a pm.

O ya where did i get these numbers below from..... thats alot of 9's mr good sport

Dam Matt you are defiantly park forests finest.  I think after this big of an INT win you got the momentum to just jump up to pro and start playing for some money.  Just because you have not even finished in the top half of an advanced tourney should not hold you back.  I know the pdga have not treated you very fair and have probably underrated all of your previous rounds.  Officially you are 903 rated but your playing like a 975 seasoned pro.  Ah but there is one last thing I just saw!

I guess the Once in a Blue Moon Classic did not treat you to well with a hot 862 rated round, and then whats this a 999 for the second round.  I did have the leave the worlds event this year but I had a 964, and a 1014 rated round,. for work and family related reasons I had to drop out of my first ever tourney and have my only career DNF.  I have played over double the pdga sanctioned events and probably many more unsanctioned events then you also have a DNF.  Still with all that said I think the pdga is robbing your ass of some serious rating points and I would immediately get them on the phone to get this mess str8nd out.  I dont know Matt but it seems like you dont practice what you preach from what the pdga sight tells me.  Kick some ass this year bro!  I know you can get in the top half of an ADV tourney's one of these times!

Guys, please take this "discussion" offline, PM, e-mail, playground after school, wherever, just NOT here. You are not adding anything to the discussion of the 2007 Prairie Open.
