Title: Why I will root for the Yankees
Post by: Chainmeister on August 10, 2007, 09:47:51 AM
I never liked Roger Clemens.  I always thought he was a jerk.  I never liked the Yankees, like all non-New Yorkers, I hate the Yankees.  Now, I am rooting for the Yankees and especially for Clemens.

Cub fans will recall some fallout earlier this season over beanballs.  If I recall the umpires ejected a Cub pitcher in the first inning for throwing too close.  That's garbage. I think MLB is goofy on this. They warn players and eject pitchers for even thinking of throwing at batters.  Clemens retaliated after the Blue Jays threw behind A Rod once and then finally hit him.  Clemens did was he was supposed to do.  He got suspended.  My hat is off to Joe Torre and Roger Clemens.  The only way you keep other teams from throwing at your players is to let them know you are absolutely going to retaliate.  This is the way it was when pitchers like Don Drysdale, Bob Gibson and Early Wynn said, "you want the inside of the plate, I'm gonna knock you on your #%$&*.  You throw at my teammate, I'm gonna knock you there again."  MLB and its umpires have taken away the inside of the plate and have taken fear out of the game. Peformance enhancing drugs aren't the only reason why players hit home runs in bunches these days.  Batters now feel they own the plate and that there will be an ejection of the pitcher gets to close.  I just hope Clemens is not contrite.  I want him to be interviewed and say that he would do the same thing again.  If he does I might have to get a Yankee hat.
