The previous tournament held at Lemon Lake was fantastic, very well run. Beutiful championship caliber course, well maintained and very versatile. This is a must play for any disc golfer!
Definitely one of the most fun and best run tourneys I've been to and the competition is great there too.
48 bucks for Advanced for a 1 day event is totally unnecessary and ridiculous in my opinion. This is supposed to be just for fun, but paying 50 bucks just to play amateur isn't really that much fun to me.
Out of curiosity I wonder how much of the money is being designated towards food costs. I enjoy the homie, wish the rates weren't higher this year. Free lunch and dinner is cool, but hopefully payouts will be still good.
And for those of you who haven't been there before, don't forget that there's a $2 fee to get a day pass to use the park. I believe it's free if you buy the year pass from the state? I know other states do that, not sure about Indiana.
Played these two courses on sunday, and boy were the mosquito's BAD. If anyone is heading out there anytime soon, I recommend some serious deet. I think the 5 of us went through about 3 cans in 72 holes. Other than that, the course was in great condition.
Homie is always a victim of it's own success (that just means don't expect to get out of there at 3:30pm!). But they have free food AND the payout is good. I wonder if the price increase is just to try to keep the tournament size more reasonable. If so, I wonder if it will work.

It doesn't seem so because Special Ed players such as myself only pay $18. I am thrilled but agree with Dan that the price is awful steep for him. If he cashes I suspect he will bring home a trunk full of plastic that he doesn't really need. It looks like a sucker bet for a 915ish rated player as he is going to be a donor at $48. Also a 900ish rated old guy might as well save $20 and play Intermediate rather than Masters or Grandmasters. For $18 I really don't care what place I am in as long as I like my rounds. In any case, its big fun and I plan to be there.
I kinda agree with Dan. It's a $10 increase from last year for Pro & Adv. Not so bad for the Pros as at least they can play to get their cash back. Maybe they're using the extra $ to pay for all the food? Who knows. Like Dave said, good price for me ($28) and a lot of fun. Hopefully I shoot better than at IN State. ::)
I'm pretty sure that the food is donated by Matt's family. $48 seems a little pricey for Advanced.

Oh yeah, if you cash you'll be there late. I think Josh Younkin said he was there until 7-7:30 when he cashed at IN States.... :o
It is always a good tournament. It is not run nearly as well as an IOS, but good courses and food make up for it. I can understand the Advanced price shock. I guess you have to decide for yourself whether it is worth it.
If the extra money were going to food or anything else used for all the players at the tournament, then why would only the Advanced price have gone up so much? I'd rather pay 28 bucks and know there is no payout at all than play for 48 bucks and try to win some discs. I can still play if I choose and not have to stress about my bank account because of 50 bucks, but I think Brian Cummings should realize that alot of Amateur disc golfers are in their teens and low 20's and can't afford to throw this much down to go throw some frisbees.

yeah, the difference was only $10 last year I think, so I paid the extra to play with kids my own age, but at $20 this year I don't know.....
so kids like me will need a third job to pay for disc golf expendatures :o
well, do they consider "novice" to be the same as rec @ $18? Or does Rec fit into the "other am divisions" at $28? If rec is $28, then it went up from last year. I think I paid $22-$25 and that included ace fund and 50-50 pot (I think that was what they were for). I just remember that when I went to register the price they told me was higher than i thought it would be even if I was in the ace fund.
I hopefully will still be able to make it out. I like the courses. Hopefully this year the guys taking registrations will show up on time :)
Novice, Rec, AMIII, MA3, it's all the same division.
You forgot Enthusiast.
ya the price seems high compared to other tourneys in the area. This tourney is a good time though... At indiana state they announced that if you were not in the final nine you could cash out and leave. So im not sure what the problem was there... If you were in the final nine they did the awards directly after.. Post back your thoughs thanks.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to whether everyone's playing the same tees for this? Or does anyone have actual information on this?
At Indiana States it was all the same tees, except there were different tees for the temp holes he had set up.
Can I hitch a ride from someone leaving from Lake county? I have gas and toll cash.
im probably going tom you can ride with me
course played great today
i on the other hand struggled
only played blue course - playing red on friday
got 4 birdies though
hole 4 being one of them which i thought was nice
i got to stay away from the 6's
The work scheduling god's have allowed me to have sunday off. I will finally be able to make this tournament. I've heard a lot of good stuff about it and I like the courses. Hopefully it translates into a good showing, instead of my usual, good 1st round, hot lava meltdown second round.
it will be two different courses
red and blue
ive melted on red (am round )and shot lights out on blue ( pm round)
and ive melted on both
Red is waay tougher. Except for the lake hole and after, Blue is pretty much open.
Nice birdie on 4 'spuds
I'm headin down for the dubs on Saturday. Keep in mind that everything is on Central time here, so nobody on this board will be affected but Indiana is a weird place when it comes to DST. 10:30 registration for the doubles, 2 rounds.
weather looks like mid 50's
better than the first one held in may of 2002
bdgc.org
still cant believe all the water
Lemon is a great course everyone says the red is harder then the blue. But i think that blue is way tougher..
The course primarily on the west side of the street is definitely harder (I don't know which is which). The numbers don't lie!
West side is Red. Yeah, red is definitely much tougher. The elevation makes it a lot harder too.
I hit about a 200-220' shot for a deuce on the blue course at the homie last year, must be easy :P
well im off to play the reds today
i hope the course wont be crowded at 9 am
have fun at work guys and gals !
Homie was a good time. By far the best IL/IN event of the year. Some nice additions to the courses with painted red & blue baskets. Can't wait to see the next course. Not sure of the official count but heard it was over 180 players.
Tom S. joined the Camry crew and survived the Chicago race home.
Team Camry just went out there and ran hard all day and god willing we have yet to lose a man yet. We had some problems with a loose condition last time out, but 4 new tires and pressure adjustment seemed to do the trick as Sunday we were fast from start to finish.
Homie was a great time. It was nice having Matt's mom serving us lunch and talking with the players. The courses are great was well. My only concern was having the rec. players play three holes each round that were shorter than the rest of the players. I am not sure there werer enough propogators. Rec. has the most non members or members who do not yet have a rating. In the first round I played with a guy who shot +2. It was his first tournament. He was very talented but occasionally had a brain cramp. He will be playing Intermediate or Advanced next year when he is more consistent. His likely 900 rating will not be reflected on the field. Also, even if there were I really don't want to be in such a small sample. Rec often has players with low rating who are on their way up and play seemingly way over their heads. Nobody in Rec. has a high rating. I would much rather play the same course as Brett and let the comparison ( as laughable as it may be) stand for what it is. I think there is a risk of no ratings or very weird ones. Let us play holes that are brutally long for us and put everybody on the same course. This happened at Indiana States a couple years ago. I will have to look at the posted ratings (next year ;D) and add 2.8 strokes to my score and see where I would have been.
I have to get back to Lemon Lake soon. I love these courses.
Did any other divisions other than Rec play the shorter layout?

No
So the women played the longer layout? I'd find that really strange. IIRC Last year the Adv Grandmasters, Int and Rec played the shorter layout.

Not in the Homie. I know Adv GM played the same layout. URI...
(you recall incorrectly)
Despite getting hit in the face with a disc and then shooting the absolute worst rounds of my life, I still had fun. And at least I walked away with a CTP. The good news is that I played so terribly, the rounds will probably get dropped. Yes, they were that bad. Not DFL, but pretty close!!!

Then the ratings from last year's Homies are incorrect...
Instead of
73 862 65 880
They should have been
73 819 65 907
i kind of agree with chainmaster as i would like to be able to compare
what i shot verses Kev C who rode down with me as he played rec
i think we both shot plus 6 both rounds but he played from a couple shorter tees
now me vs my brother 925 rating vs 865 rating
i figure he has to give me 6 strokes
so i think i faired well vs him
mike s
what hole did u get hit in the face and did he have the common sense to at least offer you a beer ?
i do have to say that my putting was typical for a T (not consistant)
my approaches saved me big time
driving was bad but when i relaxed i was ok but when i tried to throw i was pretty bad
ill take 3's on the water hole all day and be happy
also the 3 on blue 18 and red 10 makes me happy
all in all if not for 3 putting blue 14 from 25 ft and in - i would say i played pretty well for myself
only 1 five and but only 3 dueces (1 blue and 2 red)
I'm sure the TD might make the argument that he has lower divisions play a shorter layout to speed up play. I think most Rec players would agree with you guys though that they'd rather play the same layout as the Pros so they can compare scores. In this case, there were only a handful of Rec tees, so I don't really see the point of it at all.

Then the ratings from last year's Homies are incorrect. However, I think you are on to something. Good rounds will go up and not so good rounds will go down. The compression will be very weird.

Last year I recall everybody playing the same course. This year they decided to make it easier for Rec. and as far as I am concered made it FUBAR. Otherwise, a great, great tournament.
FUBAR and "great, great tournament" seem somewhat oxymoronic. ;D
I wish I had been there.
Two years ago they had different divisions playing different tees and it was FUBAR. Some anonymous weasel got me stroked for playing the wrong tee. I had played the tee announced in the player meeting. The course and tees announcer announced it wrong because he did not know that the plan for which divisions were on which courses morning and afternoon had been changed. It took a long time to get that straightened out. Fortunately the course and tee announcer knew what he had said because he had written notes and he read it from his notes.
Still it was a good tournament and I came back the next year.
Sometimes what makes a tournament great and what makes it FUBAR are to different sets of factors. Or, if the tournament is unsanctioned, it might be the same thing! ::)
I actually got hit during warmups by one of my friends on Blue 11. We had all thrown a few discs and I didnt realize he was playing out the hole from back near the mando. I was up closer to the basket and he took some over-the-top spike hyzer route directly onto my right eye. Everyone else was standing up there too, I was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time.

It does but its true. I would recommend Homie to any player. Its a real celebration of disc golf. However, the Rec division thing is.. well you know. This almost happened at Mayhem last year. At the player's meeting I mentioned to Jeff Mitchelll that there were not enough gators in Rec. and he quickly and wisely made a decision to put everybody on the same course. I know Jeff and felt I could say something. I really don't know Brian (though he seem slike a good guy) that well and there was a big turnout so I kept my yap shut and played. In hindsight, I wish I would have played advanced GM and paid the extra $10. Damon was in a threesome with John and Johnse. Kurt, you weren't there so there were only three. I wasn't going to cash (even though I figured that I played at about my hypothetical rating- might never know. :o anyway) so this would have been the better play. I did get to play with Kirk Romandie which is always fun.
I didnt know Matt Lovasko but after hearing stories about him for the last two years i feel like i do. So instead of saying what i liked and disliked about the tourney.. I want to say thankyou to matts mom, friends, and family for all that they did for this tourney.. You could tell that it was a very special day for them. Cant wait for next year.. Thanks cya at fairfeild.... ;D
FlY oN HOmiE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mukey - where were you ?
Was thinking about going but ended up staying local, will probably see everyone next weekend. My desire to play tournaments has kinda waned with the weather

I tried plugging these results into that PDGA spreadsheet to get some rough ratings, but it's apparently limited to 100 players and it's password-protected so I can't change that.
anyone remember what the password is? I tried 'pdga', 'ratings' and 'pdgaratings'. I think the password was posted when the spreadsheet was but I'm too lazy to dig around the pdga site for it.
