Title: 2 Carlyle Niners
Post by: ActionJackson on September 19, 2007, 09:42:41 AM
I am making a trip to the southern part of Illinois and I was wondering if anyone has played either of the two Carlyle courses, furthermore I would like to know if they are worth playing.  I am certainly going to check out foundation park in Centralia, and I figure I could easily pick up another 18 holes while I am in the area.

Also, found this pretty interesting.  Carlyle has the largest population of Eastern Massauga Rattlesnakes in Illinois.  http://www.inhs.uiuc.edu/inhsreports/may-jun00/snakes.html
I would be more concerned but these little guys seem harmless     :sleepy4:

I have not played both of them but hope to do so some day.

I've heard some great things about the Centrailia course.

If you get a chance play Colinsville, IL. It's a pretty good course. Call the contact to see if you can get a map. I had a hard time getting around the course the first time.

plan centrailia for sure

vandalia is not worth playing as its a putter course

from what i remember of the carlye couse in teh city park had
kind of odd baskets  but i have not made a point of playing there again so it must have not impressed me

and the other course is relatively new - so no comment

i would definetely hit centrailia and expect to spend some time there
it will challange even the best players

my central IL base of operations is PENA, IL    (if you were wondering how a chicago south sider knows these things)

If you're going to play centralia, you should also hit up Effingham, it's a pretty nice course which plays kind of like Bradley park in Peoria in the fact that the course plays on low ground and then you play up to higher ground. A good course.  I have not played the new carlyle course but the old one airspuds talks about did have weird baskets. they were black with a few gold chains and the baskets themselves were too spaced apart so discs can fall through.  I would hit up Centralia then Effingham, more then enough golf in those two courses. Centralia especially. SUPER AWESOME COURSE!!!

I played Effingham a couple years ago and I really enjoyed it.  Pretty challenging.  I see the similarities with Bradley Park now that you mention it.  For the last few years, Bradley was my homecourse, and already I miss it dearly.

I will definitely be playing Centralia.  I am excited because I have heard only good things about it.  I might take your advice and hit up Effingham as well, as long as it doesn't eat my favorite Roc this time !  Still considering Carlyle, but surely leaning away from it now.

Thanks for your responses !
