Email scott@paperorplasticsports.com for more details
sweet i will come and prolly bring my crew
Look forward to seeing you out there Jason!
Thanks for the Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Club (http://www.foxvalleymetrodiscgolfclub.com) for taking up the sponsorship offer and their donation of a couple CTP's for the tournament!
Flyer has been attached. You're better downloading the image instead of trying to view it on the website.
The regular bathrooms are going to be winterized and closed by the time of this tournament, but I DO have a porta-potty scheduled to be there. That's always an important thing to have!
Yay I finally have a semblance of a website up. Granted there are all of 2 pages and the website design is FAR from complete (in fact I'm expecting to overhaul a lot of that), but it suffices.
I have all of the information about upcoming tournaments up there now. It also links you to my store and you can decide to display only discs or only cards.
Feel free to let me know your comments, although I know that a lot of links don't really do anything and that there isn't a whole lot of content.

Come out to this event. One of the last times to get event points this year. 2008 Worlds is going to draw close to 1000 people.
I went out to best shot doubles this morning and then stuck around afterwards for the next 4 or so hours to find the alternates and get distances and such. I'll post the scorecards probably Monday night, but I have the distances for a lot of the alternates and such.
I couldn't find hole 8's alternate marked in the ground - the one behind and to the left of the tee near the pond, but I found a dirt patch that looked like a pretty good spot for the alternate. From looking in the image gallery it looks like it's either the same spot or really close to it. I also am changing up 9's alternate because the current 18 is too easy with the brush cleared and I didn't know where 27 was. The one that I'm setting up is 20 feet behind 9's tee on the woodchip path that goes from 8 directly to 9. There's a big tree directly in front of you forcing you to go either left or right. Left is a little bit more open, but the right route can be hit just as easily.
I'll be out on Friday (hopefully!) to set out the flags and paint the alts. I'll have 2 sets of colored flags - one for regular tee, and one for the alternates. The only thing I'm afraid of if there is any bad weather in the week that makes the ground slippery I'll have to switch to two rounds of concretes. I'll decide on Friday.
ALTERNATES - For those who want to get out there and practice:
1 - Marked hole 19 on stone - 254' behind and to left of 1's tee, on other side of path, close to tennis course
2 - #11 on Stone - 360' - behind and to the left of 2's tee, tennis courts blocks lefty hyzer.
3 - #21 on stone - 308' - behind and left of 3's tee, 44' directly behind a large tee that is to the left of the concrete tee.
4 - #13 on stone - 248' - behind and right of 4's tee, close to the sidewalk - hard to find stone because grass was covering a lot of it.
5 - #14 on stone - 294' - far to the right of 5's tee, righties frequently like to skip this shot off the street to approach the basket. About 40' away from the road.
5A - no change
5B - no change
5C - no change
5D - no change
5E - no change
5F - no change
6 - #15 on stone - 338' - far left away from 6's tee. There is a triangle shape that the path makes as it circles the pond and has paths that go towards the road. The stone is behind the triangle and closer to the road. A little tough to find.
6A - not sure what this used to be - 182' - It was one of the former tees for 6A, it's the one that is up a bit and at the far right when looking from the current tee.
7 - #16 on stone - 217' - when taking the path from 6A to 7, before you exit out of the woods there's an area that breaks off to the right. The alt stone is pretty easy to see. Shot goes through a lot of the trees.
8 - no stone marking - 256' - back and to the left of 8's tee, just on the other side of the path by about 2 feet. There's a big dirt patch that looks like where the alt might usually be. Tough on lefties but righty hyzer is still there.
8A - no change - 272'
8B - no change - 276'
9 - no stone marking - 252' - it is 20 feet back behind 9's tee following the woodchip path that goes straight towards 8's basket. I marked a temp line with my foot this afternoon. You are staring right at a big tree in front of you forcing you to go left or right.
9A - 197' - same as at the club challenge, at end of clearing if you were to walk straight from 8B out towards the soccer field. Basket tucked into a small clearing past the brush.
9B - 473' - 2 pine trees are just behind and to the right of where this tee will be, 26' behind the rocks. Baseball field on the right and OB. Basket is 5 feet past the path, and there's only 19' clearance before you land in the pond. It's 35' to the right of the willow tree. Very similar if not the same (I can't remember where the tee was) to the club challenge temp hole.
Weather forecast keeps improving for both days, so I hope to see everyone out there! We are going to have stuff given away from Fox Valley Disc Golf Club, club memberships from the Disc Golf Alley club, and a bunch of stuff from Paper or Plastic Sports!
There's a rock painted white between 8 & 9 on the path that is the marker for 27.
Thanks for the info mirth. I think I remember seeing that rock, not sure. I'll probably keep the tee where I have it mapped and measured out from.
I have confirmed that I'll be out at the course on Friday setting up tee flags and painting tees. I can accept pre-registrations while I am out there. Since the daylight comes to a close around 4:30, I will certainly want to be out of there before then, but I'll probably be out there something like 11 - 2pm. Just look for a red '95 Ford Taurus in the parking lot with a jogging stroller in the backseat and you'll know that I'm there!
Pre-registrations are starting to pick up! If you have pre-registered prior to today (Wed), and don't see your name on the tournament page, please juet let me know.
Don't forget that there is a $5 pre-registration discount! If you pre-register online or by mail, PLEASE include your PDGA # with your payment so that it helps me facilitate things a little bit better.
Forecast for the weekend is mid-40's, and most importantly: NO RAIN.
Thanks!
Scott
Quote from: ChainmeisterOn a threaddrifting note-- Scott, I am thinking of playing on Saturday as its a better day for me. Use this as a promo to get some GM's to come-- there is going to be at least one sure fire donor in the field.
Despite Chainmeister's generosity I cannot make Saturday. >:(
I'm 40-60 for Sunday.
Online Pre-Reg is closed. We have 11 pre-reg'd for Saturday, and could use a lot more Sunday players! I know that I have more verbal confirmations than just the 11 as well.
I'm heading out to the course right now to put in the flags and mark everything, I will accept pre-reg's while I'm out there, but other than that, see everyone this weekend!
I'm almost done with the player's handbook. Hopefully I'll get that posted up tonight. I should have enough copies for 1 per hole at least, but if I have time I'll print more. Yes I know I don't have to make one of these, but I want to run a high caliber tournament and have everyone come back out for more!
I'm attaching a sample of holes 1 and 9 so that you guys can see what I'm working on :)
Way to raise the bar. The handbook is a great idea.

Gotta agree. You are just making it hard for me to use possibly snowy weather as an excuse. If you don't want to print them all you can post the handbook and let us print out our own unless you wish to keep it proprietary. Nice job Scott.
that handbook thing is quality, great idea definitely check it out tommorow
I want one too!!!
I would like to send a big thanks to scott for a great tournament on sunday. I love all the alternates at bevier and think they should be used at every tournament held there it brings a different aspect to the course. As everyone said the handbook is the best idea ever in my mind. the the diagrams that he had for all the holes were great. Once again thanks to scott again for a finely run tournament. I will be attending all the ones that he puts on in the future.

Nice job on getting the scores up so quickly and good job on marking out all the tee locations.
So was the weather bad there? I played a golf course disc golf tournament that was lightly attended. We had light flurries and drizzle, but the golf carts had windshields so it was not so bad.
I had problems with upshots and long putts. I left everything really short. The next day I figured out it was my new glasses. Everything is clearer so it always looks closer.
That's my excuse, anyway, and I'm sticking with it.
great tournament, congrats Dana one the pro win!
Thanks Scott. Great time and well run for your first event. Cannot wait to play another one of yours.
Saturday was probably low 40's, breezy, and drizzly. No hard rain, but just enough to be very annoying. Sunday was much better, although it was still probably mid-40's, a little breezy at times, but the rain sprinkles were gone pretty much by about 8AM. The sun even peeked out every now and then!
A major thank you to Adrian Sr., Aaron Scott, Jason Rose, Keith Pitner, my wife Sara, Matt, and John Cleaveland for helping with all sorts of things from unloading, setting up, tear down, putting out flags and baskets, clearing flags and baskets, loading up, all that help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks to Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Club for 2 CTP's worth of awesome goodies.
Thanks to Disc Golf Alley Club for 2 - 2008 club memberships.
Thanks to Discontinuum for donating a large chunk of money towards the port-a-potty. That really helped my weekend go (no pun intended) a lot better.
Thanks to Paper or Plastic Sports for the $100 donation added to the pro purse, 8 ctp's (4 each day), and providing the vending for this event.
I had a TON of positive feedback on the player handbooks. I feel bad that I only had enough time to print 20! It wound up to be enough. I will post the entire thing here soon (I hope), although it will be a little difficult to follow unless you print it out and make it a booklet yourself. I'm also adding in a couple revisions for somethings that were pointed out to be incorrect or forgotten.
Rounds for both days are posted:
Saturday Results (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7315&year=2007&includeRatings=1#Open)
Sunday Results (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7266)
I don't know why you can't see the ratings for Sunday yet. There's an email out to Dave Gentry about that right now. I'm wondering if it's because there were so many people that were not pdga members playing, so the calculations could be way off. I made sure to tell people that the fee was going up to $10 next year for non-members, and almost had a couple people sign up. They didn't because they didn't have enough money on them.
Once I do have the handbook posted, I'd appreciate additional feedback from members of the board for future courses. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to have higher expectations for future tournaments that I may run :P "what, no handbook?" lol :) At least the next time I run a tournament at Bevier I'm good to go!
Scott
i believ that you need 6 pdga members with ratings, in order to calculate ratings for a tournament, im not sure but i think that is how it works
It was an intriguing finish for the Rec division too. Pat should have won by 3 strokes with a score of 63, but the scorecard was turned in listing him at 62. So with the corrected score + 2 penalty strokes the round was turned into a 65. So in the end he wound up only winning by 1 stroke.
Too bad the turnout wasn't a little bigger on Sunday - wouldn't have the problem of not enough people for the quick unofficial ratings calculations!
I think it's along what Jason said, but I think it's a few more players. On top of that, those players have to also have at least 8 or so rated rounds calculated as well or else they don't count.
Looks like you only have 3 gators for Sunday. Gators must have 8 rated rounds and a rating > 799.
One time I ran a tournament that was a bust on attendance and we did not have enough gators. I called a friend of mine and got his permission to use him as a gator so long as he also happened to shoot his rating both rounds.
I'm not suggesting you do that.
If you claim the weather was the same for both days, they might be able to use the previous days SSA for Sunday's round ratings.
unfortunately the weather Sunday was better than Saturday. I don't know if it was a LOT better, but from watching people play hole 1, it was definitely easier on Sunday to get the results that you wanted from your throws. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens?
I'm not sure if this was covered before, but something I had been wondering was why did you do a split day tourney?
A number of reasons, but honestly I'm surprised that so many people are concerned over running a split day tournament. Running a split day opens up the field so that up to 100 people could come out each day. I was expecting as many people to be interested in playing a tournament in that area as I see people that are responding to going to the Cold Turkey this weekend. Was I expecting to max out? no, but I was expecting at least twice as many people each day.
With that said, I ran it as two-day for these other reasons:
-Say I only had 50 people each day --- 50 people = more 4-somes on a card instead of everyone on 5-somes. That leads to quicker rounds, and everyone gets out of there before dark.
-Being the first tournament where my name is the TD (I've helped run a sanctioned event before), I wanted to split the divisions so that it was a little bit easier on myself to calculate stuff like payouts and not screw it up.
-I want everyone to know that if I'm going to run a tournament out here, I intend to run a high-caliber tournament. I feel a split day tournament emphasizes it.
-There weren't any other tournaments in the local area that were scheduled at the time I turned in the sanctioning agreement (the doubles at Kenosha was announced after my event was announced)
-Lastly, Why not?
Running split day does show your commitment as a TD Scott. However I think running it on 1 day would help maximize your total field. Then people from int/rec can travel with adv/pros. Since many 1 day events have been run at Bevier in the past and none of them have ever filled, I would think that for that particular course you are safe in running it as a 1 day event.
Scott put a great effort into running this event. If you play his events next year you can expect a very very good disc selection. Good luck in the future Scott! I think you'll do much better in warmer months.
I was just wondering the reasoning, that was all. Please in no way take it as a complaint from me!

No problem, just surprising how many people asked me about that.
On a completely different side note: the Country Inn & Suites in Zion, IL - about 5 minutes from the course, is a very comfy, coze place to stay lol. $95 for the night, free wireless internet allowing me to post the scores :)
And somehow part of my thank yous was clipped when I was trying unsuccessfully last night to make a post about the tournament.
Thanks Tom McManus for the use of your basket on Saturday.
Thanks Adrian Sr. for the use of your basket for Sunday.
I don't have all of the numbers in front of me, but we had something like a 148% payout to Pro's, and something like 130% - 140% to each division Advanced, Intermediate, and Recreational.
I hope to have the personalized pictures for the trophy frames mailed out by Friday. I'm hoping sooner than that though since there is no mail Thursday and Friday is a BEAR at the post office with everyone starting to send out Christmas cards. I had 1 trophy for Open, 3 for advanced, 1 for Intermediate, and 3 for Rec.
Some weather.com statistics from what the weather conditions were like each day...
Saturday, Nov 17th, Pro/Adv:
Round 1 - 43 degrees, Wind 10-12mph, light to medium rain
Round 2 - 40 degrees, Wind 12-16mph, light to medium rain
Sunday, Nov 18th, Int/Rec:
Round 1 - 41 degrees, Wind 10-14mph, wet ground but no rain
Round 2 - 41 degrees, Wind 7-9mph, wet ground but no rain
So I can't really say the weather was the same both days. It was similar yes, but the same? no. I'm also posting this here because I'm sure that I'll need to include it with my TD report once I get that in. That will probably go in early next week.

this dont sound like dan. do we have an imposter on our hands? :o
let's see if I can get this to post...
I have the handbook available for download, but I decided that since it did take me quite a bit of work to get it done, I added a watermark of my logo to all of the pages. It's also varying page sizes and makes it a little bit tougher to print. If you do want to print it out so that it reads better, print out pages 1-6 and then put 7 on the back of 6, 8 on the back of 5, 9 on the back of 4, etc.
let me know what you think. I'd like some thoughts on how I can mark some baskets as elevated on a hill.

Minor side note, I updated the Saturday results to show the winnings for the Pro players. 1st took $176, 2nd took $106. This included my $100 added cash sponsorship.

dan michler sux balls. by next year he'll be a recreational player at his current pace of getting worse.
I am happy to report that the TD report for the event was turned in tonight along with my final payment to the PDGA :) It's actually not too bad filling out the PDGA TD Report.
The payout percentages reported were: Open Division: 159% "Pro Event Value", and All Am Divisions: 127% "Am Event Value".
So hopefully as more people start coming out and more sponsorships also come rolling in I can boost those percentages up even higher for future events!
Thanks again to everyone that came out!
Thanks to Discontinuum, Fox Valley Metro, Disc Golf Alley, and Paper or Plastic Sports for sponsorships at this tournament!
Scott
Fun event, I encourage everyone to attend P.O.P. events in the future! What do you have planned next? Just an idea- maybe you could do something at Sinnissippi...
If I can get a lot of help from the kind folk that live out in that area, I have no problem bringing something to Sinnissippi!
As far as plans for next year, I'm hoping to run 6-7 sanctioned tournaments. Right now I'm hoping to put something together for early March, but I'm still in design mode on that. I'm also scoping out some available dates in September for a specific event that I want to run, and I hope to host the Chains of Pain III at Bevier again around the end of October this time instead of waiting for November. I'm waiting to get more info on some other dates of other tournaments going on in the area so that I can put together some events with the least amount of conflict!
I'm also going to be vending at the January 12th Ice Bowl in Aurora, and there has been some talk about running an event at Oswego with Fox Valley Metro DGC involved sometime next year as well...
Scott
Glad to hear it, i had a fun time at Chains of pain II and look forward to playing more of your events.

That would be great, I'd love to play a sanctioned tourney at Oswego. Hopefully in the spring before all the poison ivy grows
Thanks for getting the final paperwork in Scott. The point totals are up. Thanks for putting in the effort to run a sanctioned event. Excellent job.
Interesting that they combined it back to a one day thing. It's probably because I submitted just one TD report for the 2 days, although when talking about the layouts I specifically said that configuration A and B were for Saturday Pro/Adv players and configuration C and D were for Sunday Int/Rec players. A & C and B&D were the exact same layouts, just different days. I also gave them detailed weather reports because I know everyone listed together might affect ratings.
So I guess we'll see what happens, and if I run another two-day event I'll find out more details on what in the world I need to do differently.
did you send that 'trophy picture' out?
not yet, with Thanksgiving and then the following weekend heading out of state for the in-laws Christmas I haven't given it enough attention. I also prioritized getting in the TD report over the trophy picture.
I mean, c'mon, the empty picture frame isn't pretty enough? lol :P
no worries, i'm not living at the address that i gave you so i was curious. my dad never seems to remember to give me a heads up on mail in a timely fashion.
if there is a different address that you want me to send it to, just send me an email at "scott AT paperorplasticsports DOT com" and let me know. I'll send it wherever.
Just an FYI for those of you who are still expecting their personalized trophy picture... I have all but 1 printed, but that will be done with no problem tonight, and I should have them all mailed out tomorrow. I could bore everyone with the laundry list of stuff that has kept me from working on these, but they are finally going to fill your empty picture frame soon enough.
Let me know if I screwed up your name or anything like that and I'll replace it. If you think that the picture/text sucks, well, too bad, I won't replace that lol.
The trophy picture features hole 8A (formerly B )
