There is a new 9-holer in Lake Villa. It's located north of the intersection of grand & 83. The entrance is on the east side of the road. I am not sure of the name of this road. It's dvided by a median that has a row of lights. There is a small pond with 2 fountains that are visible from 83. If you get to the overpass of the railroad tracks you have gone too far. I don't think the park has a name. Park near the mansion entrance and tee #1 is along the tree line.

9 Holes
Mach 3 Silver Baskets.
Tee Pads are limestone screenings on top of the ground.
Currently no signs.
Tom S. & I played 5 rounds of 9 holes. The best we shot was -5. The tee pads are bad.
Hole #1 is a hyzer shot. Wide open to the right with the tree line to the left. Decent range. 330ish.
Hole #2 is a short shot. The fairway is super tight with a slight turn to the left. Trees scatter the fairway to the basket. We threw spike hyzers since there is no good line down the fairway. Had the tee been moved back it could have blocked the hyzer. 200ish.
Hole #3 is a medium length hard right turning hole. There is no way to get to the basket if you throw down the fairway. Well, possiblly a hard skipping forehander for a righty. This is a heavily wooded hole. We threw big hyzers & thumbers over the top. Had the tee been slightly moved it would have blocked the over the top routes. 240ish
Hole #4 is a crazy hole. You have to be able to throw a big hyzer over the top of the trees to get a 2. If you don't have the arm you have to play to the gap, then throw backwards to the basket. There is no way you can 2 it that way unless you hit a 75 to 100ftr. Tom & I both had 5 attempts at this hole and Tom had the only 2. Of the first 7 holes on the course this is the toughest 2 to get of the 7.
Hole #5 is a short putter hyzer with the basket slightly tucked into the woods. Easiest hole on the course.
Hole #6 is a medium range shot across an open field. There is some trouble deep of the basket.
Hole #7 is a longer hole. It's prob 375 to 400 feet. Heavy rough left & deep.
Hole #8 is a really good hole. Par 4. Your first shot must be long and hit a decent gap to have a look at 3. I'd say it takes 325+ to clear the gap. If it's short you have no look at 3.If you get in the rough big numbers can come into play. If you hit the gap it's a wide open look about 150 to 200 ft upshot. This hole could have been spectacular had the basket been placed on the hill near the water.
Hole #9 is a sweet hole. Par 4. I'd say it's 500 to 550ft. You tee across the pond. You can chose to go left or right of the pond. To the left is a narrow landing zone. There is some very heavy rough if you get off the short grass to the left. To the right there is narrow landing area with the park entrance lining it to the right. I put a disc into the center of the pond. The 2 fountains look sweet. I put an orc directly next to the 2nd fountain. I can see this pond being loaded with dscs >:D.
Overall this is not a bad course. The finishing holes of 7, 8, & 9 are very good. Had some slight modifications been made to holes 2 & 3 to block the hyzer routes those holes would be much tougher.
still sounds like a pretty impressive 9-holer considering some of the other stuff that has been put in the ground in recent years. Do you know who designed the course? Perhaps with tees in not the greatest shape there is sitll the opportunity to get in contact with someone to recommend moving the tees on a couple of those holes to make it an even better course?
a bunch of us will be heading out there after round lake dubs this afternoon if anyone is interested
I was going to go today but now that I know you guys are going i've changed my plans :thefinger:
Longwood Centre Park (http://www.amctrl.com/cgi-bin/DiscGolfPage.cgi?id=151)
The park name is Longwood Centre Park. Not sure how close I am on 1st tee location -- Brett?

You are very close. The 1st tee is just across squire road. Basically the Southeast corner of that intersection.
Thanks. I moved it to where I think you mean, but I have a hard time resoving this with your description of hole 1 "Wide open to the left with the tree line to the right", so I think I still have it wrong.

You are right. I phooked up in my description
Fun course. Holes 7, 8, and 9 are very nice. First time around I took an eight on hole 8. There is a gap and it needs to be hit, if you come up short or in the woods there is not much of a chance of getting a four. Hole 9 is fantastic. The one thing that Brett didn't mention is that if you go off to the left, if you don't land on a berm not only are you throwing out of the rough, you have to throw it over a hill that runs the length of the hole on the left side. A very fun hole. Not a hole for chuckers we saw a couple of groups just skip the hole.

That snowman was painful to watch. Almost as painful as that dollar you paid me in pennies >:D. Snot a -6 to beat Tommy in a handicapped match for a buck.

Yuck! I guess you gotta do what ever you gotta do to win, right? ;D

I would appreciate if you told the full story. There was at least three dimes and four nickels to go with those pennies.
Shooting a -6 is one stroke away from perfect on the current set up on this course. Also what is nice about this course is that a on most of the holes a person will be penalized for a bad shot. The rough is super thick right now.
I only got to hole 4 before officer friendly showed up to see what I was doing. After telling him I was disc golfing, he told me to keep warm and left. The tees are horrible but the course is fun. I'll probably play a couple more rounds before I head back to DeKalb tomorrow afternoon. I really enjoyed 2,3,4 and 8. Hole 9 is great but in the snow it was a pain. If anyone is in the market for a green champion friebird, I left one in the pond. Jason
has anyone played this course recently? Is it being kept up well? Last I was there a few months ago the entire backside was completely overgrown and if you threw in the rough, good luck ever getting it back. Have they cut the grass at all since then?
I was there 3 weeks ago and all the grass in the back was cut.

sweet, yeah, I went yesterday, and they took out all of the tall grasses in the back completely. Now it is all just normal cut lawn grass in the back side. They still have not put the actual holes back in, but have cones marking the places at the moment.
grasses? Did you see oxes standing on boxen? :-\
All the baskets have been pulled at this course. There is a sign that reads "Course Closed. Relocating this summer".
This could be a good thing especially if they use that land on Grand Ave across from Cedar Lake in Lake Villa.
Has anyone heard anything new as to if, when or where they are moving to? That was a nice course, would be good if they do add another, or put something back on the old to play.

Please fill me in if you find out where this course has moved to. Unfortunately r got to trie it out, but it sounds like it was a pretty decent course. Hopefully, wherever it's new location is is even better. Also, do you think that it will stay a 9-holer?
Any news about the replacement course for Lake Villa?
All but 2 of the tees are back in the ground and fairways are cut out there. The first hole, and hole 5 both are missing baskets, but everything else is in and playable.
Baskets Stolen.

That's really F'in lame that people do this!! Unreal!
I'll never understand why people must steal and ruin the fun for everyone else. Thumbs down
i wonder if it is disc golfers that typically do this or people that are after scrap metal.
I wonder the same as well but I doubt any true disc golfer would do this. Maybe some ghetto assholes? Who knows, either way its bogus and expensive to replace.
So I have heard from others that they are taking out the current Lake Villa course and putting in a new course in that same area with the opening of the new park in there. Anyone have more information on that?
This course is completely pulled. I got a chance to walk the new land by the skate park today. There is more land than I thought and it goes back pretty far all the way behind the mansion. I heard some rumors that they are going to move the course over there. The land is mostly flat without many obstacles it would take a very creative design to make it worth playing (some decent tee pads would help also). It's amazing how much money Lake Villa spent on the new skate park area and the walking path with that stupid ass exercise equipment that nobody ever uses. They even put in a roller hockey rink. During this time they let their disc golf course go to sh!t. The reason they had missing baskets is because they were barely in the ground and sitting at 45 degree angles from when they reinstalled them after they were pulled for no reason a couple months ago. So basically I don't expect much if they do move the course.
I know about a month ago they announced in the papers that they were moving the course to the new area. So they at least made some comment about it.
Lake Villa's relocated course is a joke! It is 9 baskets in a small field with no tee pads. The baskets are poorly installed so they have no reason to be surprised when some end up missing again. If you don't live close don't waste your time it is a very bad course.
Congratulations Lake Villa :occasion16: :occasion18: :wav: You now have the worst course in Lake County.
The Mecca keeps growing! Too bad it's the wrong direction. What a joke.
:(
WOW! This course is really bad. Like Tom said. Don't waste your time. There is not 1 good hole of 9. This rivals the worst in IL.
Ha! Where is this POS? I can't wait to get this bad boy under my belt.

It's very close to the old course. You enter the same area. There is a gravel road that keeps running north where a bunch of new actvities have been added. Those include soccer, football, walking trail with fitness stations, restroomes, skate park, and roller hockey. Park by the roller hockey rink. There are no tee pads so just feel free to make your own. The frustrating part is looking at the Lake County Forest Preserve land just north of this POS.
This course was finally redesigned as part of 'opening' the park with a new name in honor of the Lake Villa mayor. The baskets had prevoiusly been just strewn about the field with basket-high weeds.
The redesigned course rivals the worst in the world. Good luck finding the tees as they are marked lightly with blue paint in the grass. There is a course map laying on the ground near the sign that says 'Disc Golf Course Rules' which allowed me to figure out the layout. Holes 1 and 4 are challenging deuce holes. Holes 6 and 8 are long, open holes with the potential to lose a disc in the long grass. Holes 7 and 9 I could not find the tee, but they were open deuce holes. Hole 2 is a tight wooded putter shot. Holes 3 and 5 are good for a laugh. On the tees located in the woods you have to really battle with the bush just to get a place to throw from. Fantastic course!
A waste of 9 perfectly good baskets.
This course is absolutely ridiculous. It's been installed and moved 3 times. It's one of the worst man. I updated my review on DGCR.

Ha! Honestly, if they just put the baskets in a wide open field with no obstacles, the course would be more fun than what they have set up. What sucks is you know some people probably have their first (and most likely last) exposure to disc golf courtesy of this course.
