Was perusing the '08 schedule & noticed that these are on the same weekend next year. Looks like traveling players from our area will have a tough choice to make....
and traveling vendors who was at River City Rumble last year relying on am's coming out to play at a tournament in order to have a decent weekend...
I honestly can't believe they are the same weekend, especially with how huge Bowling Green was last year. On top of that, there were a ton of players unhappy with the Rumble scheduled on Mother's day weekend, now this year the Am's have to figure out where to go.
The courses are awesome in Iowa, but I have a feeling that it's going to be good pro turnout, not so good am turnout.

Right now it is River City Rumble for me. Excellent courses and well run. I believe the attendance at Bowling Green was just a little bit beyond the grasp of the organizers last year.

I don't see either of these listed...???? ???
I'm going to verbally committ to the River Cities Rumble which should immediately cause a boost in RCR attendance.

Obelisks make great bookends, Tom ... but you need two.

Do we have a brand new Michler-phile here? :o ;D
I'll probably go to the RCR also, but month-end is a big deal for Finance companies, so I may not be able to get the time off. Was looking at the QC website & the pics of West Lake look awesome! I know lower division players didn't get to play that last year, hoping we do this year. Holy water hazards Batman!!
John Resch, chairman of the QC Disc golf club, e-mailed me back. They're (obviously) in the very early stages & don't have everything set yet, but the issue of having each division play at least 1 round at West Lake has already been brought up & will "definetly be addressed". My fingers are crossed.
what is a Michler-phile?
I did some comparisons last night because I noticed they were talking about this on iowadg.com as well... there were 31 players that played both the RCR and Bowling Green last year. Granted there were only about 60 AM players at RCR, but it was also mother's day weekend. That scared away a LOT of people.
My thought was that with all the additional people that can make it to a tournament now because of a different weekend, the loss of people to Bowling Green will still be covered by others. I only sold stuff there and didn't even play the courses at RCR, but I knew that they rocked.
Will this year yield more than 60 AM's though? That's the question still to be answered. All I can is that I certainly hope so as I consider going back there to vend again. Excluding hotel and gas, I broke even on the weekend, and more than 60 AM's will help improve the quality of the weekend for me.

More of a jab at Michler than you Skipache, in the fact that him mentioning he's going should:

immediately cause a boost in RCR attendance.
It's good to see that keeping his ego indoors(speculation here, Dan probably golfs in the cold, unlike me) hasn't affected it
We might go down to Bowling Green this year, especially if I am still an Intermediate with the next rating update.
I can't wait to play in the RCR. I would choose River City Rumble over BG. I would rather play much better courses with fewer in my division that play average courses with huge divisions.

also the fact that it was on the same weekend as many college graduation ceremonies....that kept me away, im sure it kept others away too.
With that being said, I plan on being at RCR this year

I got the skinny on the RC Rumble schedule for 2008:
Sat-Sun, March 29-30, 2008
PDGA A-tier - you MUST be a PDGA member
The schedule changed a bit from 2007: Intermediate & Adv Masters get to play West Lake from the short tees this year. This is STILL a kick-ass course, challenging from any tees.
I'm only 95% sure on who's playing what, but it should go like this
All Pros: West Lake, Middle, West Lake
Advanced Men & Women: Middle, West Lake, Eastern (longs)
Adv Masters, All Intermediate & Juniors: West Lake (shorts), Eastern (shorts), Middle
Pre-registration is available at PDGA.com: http://www.pdgasignup.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1202689233
The local club web site doesn't have an active link to the tournament as of 2/12, but will soon.

Last year they had a doubles event on Friday and a final nine for the top four pros on Sunday afternoon. It's also a qualifier for Am Nationals. This tournament is well run, the courses are AWESOME, and it's close.
definitely bring some extra plastic because that water definitely gets hungry at West Lake. There's some water at Middle park too, but I don't think it comes into play anywhere near as much.
I'm planning on setting up at Eastern this year. I won't be able to see the pros until the event ceremony, but for those of you playing other divisions make sure to stop by and say hello!
this could be an expensive tournament for those who throw errant drives at west lake
anyone know of a nice hotel close to the courses for the RCR?
This was one of the sponsoring hotels last year - http://www.stoneycreekinn.com/ (http://www.stoneycreekinn.com/) Gorgeous hotel. I know that the block of rooms that they had reserved were all booked, but I was still able to get a room. About $100/night. It was on the Illinois side of the river, but it was maybe 10 minute tops to get to Middle Park, and Middle Park is pretty close to Eastern. West Park is about 20 minutes away from those two courses, so you could possibly find a more central location to all 3 courses inside Iowa. The main roads out there were very fast moving, and I didn't have any complications when going from Middle to West Lake and then leaving to go back home.

TY SCOTT
ALL SIGNED UP AND HOTEL BOOKED. I FOUND A FAIRFIELD INN ON KIMBERLY AVE WHICH IS REAL CLOSE TO BOTH MIDDLE AND EASTERN PARK AND ONLY A 15 MINUTES TO WEST LAKE. CAME OUT TO 100.00 PER NIGHT WHICH MOST HOTELS IN THE AREA ARE.
Im trying to persuade some guys from Colorado to go to the RCR this year, being out here might be just too far to drive to Bowling Green.
Looks like it is now RCR vs. HOMIE instead of BG-AMS
I'm planning on HOMIE
Dana where did you see that Homies was going on the same weekend as RCR? I can't seem to find the info anywhere on the tourney.

Ah I was still looking at the Channel Z site for red roc disc golf. Thanks
It would be nice to see on the pdga tour page.
