Just noticed this one on the PDGA tour page. The date is February 2, 2008
Cant wait for this one. Sanctioned winter tournaments are the best ;D
There will be more information coming out soon about this event tied to the Ice Bowl as well as another one coming in March. Will be interesting to see what the weather is like in March! March 2007 was attack of the snow.
Sweet! Thanks to everyone (Jason) who are running tournaments!
I am excited to be working on this tournament and hopefully getting some good sponsership, (working on that now)
this is part of a new project i am working on with Aaron Scott and Scott Pitner
more information on this event coming soon...
the snowmen are OB..... :P
Wont be able to make this one :'(. On the + side i'll be in Colombia for two weeks
Jason,
Think I'll sponsor a few ctp's give credit to Your Style Disc Sales. Let me know how many.
this is a preliminary flyer, i will have more to put on in the coming weeks, please contact me if you have any questions....
The flyer is up at www.midwestdiscgolf.com
a side note: at that phone number i have no voicemail so .... its better to email me if i dont answer
i will be having some interesting OB's to think about.... as usuall the tennis courts, baseball fields, and roads are OB. But the following holes will have OB's for ON OR OVER the gravel paths that run through the park, i am hoping that they will add some teeth to otherwise "simple" holes.
I will have a flyer explaining them, also in the event of snow I will mark them with yellow rope
Hole 2 , hole 5, hole 7, hole 8 (playground), hole 12, hole 19 (from regular pad on 19 to temp basket under cottonwoods),
hole "20" (short pad on #19, under willows, to regular #basket) will on feature the pond as an OB.
i mean i need something abominable right?
Will you be handing out players pack at this tournament?
yes there will be player packs, mostly ice bowl stamped discs
hope to see everyone out there!
plannin on it!
how many holes and what tee's?
Anyone able to possibly provide a ride to and from the city? My car is in the shop and I don't want to inconvenience my girlfriend by stealing hers. If no one is coming from this way then I may do that afterall. >:D
PM me if you can help, thanks!
taylor,
i PM'ed you. we can probably work something out. looking forward to playing this weekend.
Although the snow continues to pile on Lombard, the event is still happening!
I will be doing alot of shoveling tommorow. Also i really wanted to add some yellow rope and OB on the course, I was even going to do it with snow on the ground, but this is a little much so. THE ONLY OB ON THE COURSE WILL BE Roads, Parking Lots, Basball Fields, Playgrounds, and the Pond.
Hope to see everyone out there.
Great to see the extra effort to keep this one going Skipache! Looks like the name was prophetic!
Are you going to allow ribbons on discs? Do you need a PDGA waiver to do so?

I really shouldn't, but it's very tempting. We'll see how today goes. I've only played a couple of rounds total since early December and that snow sure looks like fun! You?

One of the many things that will be abominable tomorrow will be my game.
Since this is not an Ice Bowl event, are whimps and whiners allowed?
they can drown there sorrows after the event, i will allow bad back complaints from those who help shovel today however haha. It should be fun playing in the snow

I was tempted, but the excessive snowfall is going to keep me away. The Channahon event will probably be my 1st of the year.
The cold, wind whatever won't keep me from playing, but how do you keep from losing your plastic with this much snow?
Throw it in the basket on the first try. But seriously, you need to really pay attention where it lands and look for the slice it makes into the snow then start digging about 2 feet in front of that slice. Everyone in your group needs to work together to watch each other discs in this kind of snow.
I've heard of people (I think from Bruce Brakel) that you can attach a ribbon to the disc and then you can find the disc easier but I have never tried it. Plus since this is a sanctioned event I don't think that would be an option at the tourney ???
Jason has to get ahold of David Gentry and get the OK. They have allowed it before.
if its allowed, will there be string and stuff available for use?
has anyone ever spray-painted their white plastic?
i think we will have whomever is "BOB" spot, im going to get some little flags so you can martk them for people to find

Not starting until 10:00 AM is going to make for a long day with all the snow.
cement t's both rounds? didnt see it on the flier...
im guessing we'll be playing cements.
i have way too many white discs!
yowza I'm tired, never realized how tough it was to trudge through that much snow! Awesome turnout today. It was starting to get a little tough to see right as we finished up around 5:15, but I think everyone was able to complete their holes while there was still some light.
Now, time to prep for Channahon! :)
How many people lost plastic? This was one of the major reasons that kept me at home today...
There was definitely some lost plastic out there. I was one of them myself. However, I only lost one disc, and out of the two rounds, for my card there was just that one disc that was lost. We found all of the rest. I'm heading out there as early as I can when this stuff starts to melt so that I can find them BEFORE the dude that takes them and then lists them on eBay does. He was out there with his dogs Saturday morning finding it quite funny that we were out there for a tournament, and he was very openly talking about how he's going to snag stuff when everything starts to melt.
However, unlike him, I plan on returning the discs to their rightful owners! So if you lost a disc, please post what hole # so that I can start by checking out those holes first, then walking more of the course after that. I already have a list of about 5 holes that I need to check.
i hope the guy had his dogs on a leash
does nt lombard have a leash law of some sort
id call the cops on him if he was being as a$$ about it
i would have only thrown what i could afford to lose
STRAY DOGS
Time of report-1651
200 BLK W GROVE
Narrative: C/ reported she was walking with her dog when a Golden Retreiver came out, bit her dog & her. O/ took her dogs in & was reminded of the leash law. TM
someone got a warning
from police blotter
i would call the park district and ask them what they thought
No one in my group lost a disc either round because we sent spotters out to mark all of the drives on the longer holes. Groups that weren't doing that were spending a lot of wasted time looking for discs and lost a few. Playing in the snow isn't that hard, you just have to be smart about it!
results are up!
thanks jason.
scott- hole 19. blue pro wraith to the left of the tree/basket
ps. those ratings look a little low!
very awesome turnout considering the amount of snow on the ground. I guess a lot of players are itching to get out and play some disc golf :)
I'm still frustrated that I lost mine. The only reason I did was because I slipped on the tee and it skidded into the snow. Needed some of Tom's chalk :) At least I found a disc in my stock that was only one gram higher, so just in case someone found mine or took it from the lost & found I have a backup plan!
tommorow i will look for your wraith dana
first trip out to the course resulted in no found discs. There was a new layer of snow that filled in a lot of the walked on areas - that's actually a good thing as it will delay how quickly the thaw (which is happening now) will show the missing discs. Hopefully that will give us a chance to find them before someone who doesn't plan on returning them to their rightful owners does.
I only saw a couple new sets of tracks, but no evidence of any discs being picked up. So if they are still out there, they are probably still well hidden.
I'll be back out there tomorrow I'm sure.
I FOUND DANA's Wraith!!!
where was it? were we far off from where we were looking?
and THANK YOU!
no we werent, i cant believe we didnt find it on saturday, someone must have walked on it and not noticed, i mean it was buried but right were we were looking....
went back out there today again at lunch - slush city out there! oh man am I glad it wasn't like this the day of the tournament. Hole 4 was a disaster area, and I sure am glad that I was wearing my (mostly) waterproof boots. I did, however, recover 3 discs today. 1 owner has been notified, another one will be tonight, and the 3rd one will be if I can figure out the area code. The name doesn't match any of the players on the tournament page, so it was probably a casual player from a different day that lost the disc.
If you lost a disc, please PM me the approximate location so that I can go search. 2 of the 3 that I found were only because the person told me where they think the disc went down. It's still VERY tough to find a disc out there.
Supposed to be another 8 to 12 inches of snow about to whack this area tomorrow? I think, so I may only have one more chance to go search until there's a major thaw.
the whacking will start around nightfall.
