Title: 2008 IOS CFR Destroyers
Post by: Bruce Brakel on February 15, 2008, 11:53:47 AM
Discontinuum will be purchasing some CFR Destroyers to raise cash for IOS #5, the Illinois Open at Rockford.  We hope to buy and sell enough to cover our pro added cash and lunch for everyone, both days.  I'm going to coordinate the taking of pre-orders;  they will be $20 each.  You don't have to send money just yet.  If you put in a pre-order and show up at the distribution event(s), you'll get your Destroyer(s).

My hope is we'll get our order in shortly, sell most of them through pre-orders, and then distribute them at a weekend league event in March.  If Pitner is cool with it, maybe we could distribute them at the Irish and at Bevier league the following day.  It depends on how fast we can get this moving.

You can send your pre-orders to rollerdoos at aol dot com or to bruce at brasscash dot com.  I'll try to match color and weight preferences, but I'm not sure how far Innova will go with this.

Oooh, these sound tasty. I'm in for one, I've sent details to your email Bruce. Pretty cool to be able to help support an A tier in IL by buying my favorite disc.

Thanks,

Ben, you're on the list.  Discpro, if you sent me e-mail and I responded, you're on the list.  I need e-mails with names, everbody.  Send them to rollerdoos at aol dot com.

We're not rationing these.  When they're gone, they're gone.  Many thanks to Innova for supporting A-tiers this way.  At the rate they are going, we may be fully pre-ordered in five days.

very nice design.  Clean, simple, gets the point across.  well done.

Bruce - if you have leftovers I can put them out at Irish, slap a $20 cash only tag on them and then transfer cash + leftover discs (if any) to whomever gets it.  Just take an accurate count of how many come to me.  I don't mind getting them to the pre-orders either.

You can put me down for 3 as light as I can get them (no heavier than 169).

I may have some other people that are interested because it definitely looks like I won't be getting Innova CFR stuff for the Irish tournament.

I'm going to have to ask on Monday when I order.  I'm shooting for the weekend of the Irish You the Best of Luck.  Saturday March 8th is the tournament.  Sunday the 9th would be Bevier league.  It depends on Innova's production time frames.  February is a very good time to be asking for an expedited custom order.

Here's an idea:  If you would like a CFR Destroyer with the Illinois Open hotstamp wiped off and replaced with any of the artwork you've seen me do, Cubs, Angry Cub, White Sox, Bears, Green Bay, Raiders, Tigger, Cat in the Hat, etc., those are $25.  If you click on the link down there in my signature line you can see some samples of my dye work.

This is my Raiders disc.  I did some of these for a guy in Oakland.

(http://img3.glowfoto.com/images/2008/02/17-0929029634T.jpg) (http://www.glowfoto.com/user_imageredirect.php?iid=1978039)

Pre-order count is now 26 27 28 29.

What kind of plastic are these being ordered in? clear champion type like your raiders picture or star plastic?  If champion I might be interested in a few clear ones, you can whipe the stamp and add nothing!  ;D
Title: Re: 2008 IOS CFR Destroyers
Post by: stpitner on February 18, 2008, 08:22:23 PM
CFR Destroyers are the Champion plastic type.
Title: Re: 2008 IOS CFR Destroyers
Post by: Bruce Brakel on February 19, 2008, 05:42:51 AM
They are Champion plastic.  I cannot guarantee that any will be clear and colorless.  The CFR Destroyers I've seen have been the really clear, grippy Champion, but all have been colored.

We're at 31 now.  We are not sold out.  Matching your color and weight preferences will go by the order you get your pre-orders in.  Thank you for supporting our A-tier.

I'm about 95% sure I'll be at Irish You the Best of Luck. (If I'm not there, I'll give my money to Ben Douglas to pick up for me).

Thanks,

P.S.  I love your Dye jobs on your discs.  I would be willing to pay the extra $5.00 if you could do one in Smiley guy kind of like on this glove except yellow and on a disk http://arktherapeutic.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/SmileyGlove_150.jpg

You're on the list.  They had difficulties sending me the order form, so the order did not go in until today.  I ordered about 1/3rd light, 1/3rd medium and 1/3rd heavy.  I asked for a full mix of colors.

I also ordered some IOS 5 stamped DX Ontario Rocs.

If you check out my personal page at www.discgolfersr.us I posted pics of the IOS # 1 trophy discs getting rinsed off and picked clean.  http://discgolfer.ning.com/profile/BruceBrakel

We have 38 CFR Destroyers on the pre-order list.  This is very encouraging.

Innova has the order and has approved the artwork.  We're now at 43 on pre-orders.  Still not sure whether we'll have them by the 8th but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Discraft's answer to the Star Destroyer is the ESP Force.  When the Force is released on March 10, I will have 30 of the First Runs.  They should be every bit as fast as the Destroyer but not quite as overstable.  They should be +2 overstable on the Discraft scale.

I would be happy to take pre-orders on the First Run ESP Force as an IOS fundraiser.  Cash raised from First Run ESP Force sales will go towards lunches at IOS #5 at Rockford.

We still have more CFR Destroyers too.

I might have some Darth Vader art I've never done anything with.

O.k., it is looking like the Channahon Irish tournament will be Destroyer Day.  League at Bevier will be Destroyer Day 2.  Then I will leave the Destroyers with Brett and he will become the Destroyer dude.  I'm going to publish the destroyer pre-order list right here in case I missed anyone or got anything wrong.

The CFR Destroyers are stamping today and shipping today.  It will be close on whether I get them in time for this weekend.  Should get them on Thursday, just in time. They are out or almost out of the lighter weights.  Some or all of the lighter weight orders might have to wait a month for delivery.

I'm going through the list, bagging what I have.  What Innova had was a lot of 175 blue and 170-172 yellow.  Dribs and drabs of other colors.  Nothing under 169 right now.  CFR Destroyers sell so fast that they don't get a lot of variations in color and weight at any one time.  Nonetheless, we're getting you matched up pretty good, except for the undr 169 orders.  I'll assume those orders want to wait a month for the next shipment.

Bruce I know you do brass cash for discs for things that normally require money, but what about Scott's system? For Saturday will you accept a $$ amount for CFR Destroyers via his system? Not trying to put you on the spot here, but just wondering, since I have some to give and will be getting more on Saturday via the player pack (and hopefully through the two rounds).

if I understand it correctly it's cash only on the destroyers since the goal is to raise cash sponsorship for the A-Tier.  I'm not even sure if you'll see the destroyers on my tables - they will probably be held elsewhere to help keep it all separate.

I don't know Scott's system.  We're raising money for our Rockford pro purse and for lunches.  Both of those require cash.  So I have to get cash for Destroyers.  $20.  For other IOS 5 stamped discs, I'd be happy to take Scott's funny money, if that's his system.  I've got IOS 5 Ontario Rocs, for instance.

Meanwhile, the Force won't be released to the public until Monday.  They are starting shipping today, but only to locations that won't get them until Monday.

What's the weather situation?  Is the snow on the ground thin and patchy?  We're supposed to get 5-10 inches Friday night.

Per  Weather.com---
Tomorrow: Snow flurries and snow showers. High around 30F. Winds NNE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 60%.
Tomorrow night: Windy with mostly cloudy skies. Low 17F. Winds N at 20 to 30 mph.
Saturday: Partly cloudy. Cold. High 27F. Winds NNW at 10 to 20 mph.

Likely a little blowing dust tomorrow and just plain cold Saturday morning.  This is good news- no mud.  Just make sure the hands are warm.  I suspect your drive through Michigan will be snowy and that once you come around the corner it will be fine.

Brett, I'd be interested in the pink 171g.

This will be in addition to my pre-order request for the lighter weights.

I'll pick it up at the club challenge.

Thanks!

I'll set this aside for you Scott.

depending what my lay away disc is, I'll take the 172g pink one.

Not sure what color or weight. I'll check when I get home tonight.

The one I bagged for Al was probably a blue 175.  His pre-order did not mention weight or color.

Regarding the Rockford Discs: The design was created by Brett and Serg was kind enough to put the design to paper. Excellent work. Thanks to Bruce for ordering the discs and bringing them to Illinois for all to enjoy. If you haven't bought a disc you may want to order one. This could be the first of an ongoing annual event, it may soon become a collector's item.

I would like to get put on the list for the next order of light discs..  would like to get something between 164-168.

Also how light are the discraft forces running?  I would like a 2-3 of them as well if they run the same range.

Thanks,

Shawn Fallon

You need to get together with Brett on that.  If you add $5 for shipping, I'm sure he'll be fine with that.

I spoke to Zeb today at Innova East.  The lightweight Destroyers are being stamped today.  They are going to sit on the shipping dock until I get them the rest of my March order.  I'll do inventory today.

Title: Re: 2008 IOS CFR Destroyers
Post by: Bruce Brakel on March 17, 2008, 01:35:45 PM
When we put in our initial order we asked for a full spread of weights.  The light weight stuff is the stuff we did not get initially.  I would guess that most of it is 169 to 165.  Maybe some 160 to 164 if Destroyers run that low.  I don't know whether we got all our 170-172.

All of it is 172 and under.  Most of it is probably 169 and under.

I received the rest of the IOS CFR Destroyers yesterday.  They are mostly 169 with a few 168s and 2 167s.  Nothing lighter.  I'm going to start bagging them on the way to Bowling Green.  I'll drive with my toes.   ;)  If you asked for lighter than that and you're willing to settle for what we got, let me know today, Thursday, by posting here.  Looks like we got roughly equal numbers of red, orange, yellow and blue, but how could I know?

I posted on here the other day regarding some CFR Destroyers that I was looking to sell.  They are for this year's GMO event and I said that I would sell them for the same price as the IOS ones (I'm not out to undercut anyone).  I also said I didn't want to hijack the thread and make it about the GMO because I have a different thread for that.

Here's my problem - I posted this last week and it appears that my post is now gone?  Did someone delete it?  I'm fine if someone wanted to delete (or possibly move) it but shouldn't I have been notified?  I do post on a handful of message boards and Brett and I spoke about this that night so please let me know if I am losing my mind or if it really did disappear.

Thanks!

PS - The ones I have look similar to this one (http://i1.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/e3/af/c59b_1.JPG)

Good, I'm glad someone besides me remembered that post!!!  I remember writing and reading it so I assumed I posted it correctly.   Again, I'm guessing someone DELETED it?  Again, I wouldn't mind a delete or maybe more sensibly a 'move' but to delete it and NOT tell me?  That doesn't seem like good "webiquette".

I wouldn't say this is how the board works. This is truly the 1st time I've heard of a non-heated post being deleted. Mirth should be able to shed light on what actually happened.

I've also never seen an innocuous post like that deleted on this board before.  I have to think that it was some sort of error or glitch or something, nothing malicious.

Anyway, please hold a couple of max weight x-caliburs for me, if you can.  I'm sure I'll see you soon, buddy.

Apparently I have moderator powers here.  I have not removed any posts.  Other than removing my own posts and junk solicitations that have nothing to do with disc golf, I think the only moderating I've ever done was to correct a typo that was unintentionally saying something sexual about someone's wife!

I've always appreciated the openness of the moderators on this board for allowing players to post about what they have to sell.  I think that's good for the game when prize monkeys can redistribute their stuff and raise money for entry fees for the next one.

Terry has as much right to post here as myself, or Pitner, or any other TD.

Brett should have the lighter Destroyers soon.  The ones that I knew were spoken for we bagged along with the certificate.

Brett, I forgot to retain the eight certificates for the eight Destroyers I bought.

I will post soon, Brett.  Thank you for your work in selling those discs.

Just so everyone else understands, I ordered and paid for the CFR Destroyers from my own funds so that we could get the thing going early.  I retained enough Destroyers that if I sell my share for $20 each, I can pay myself back my expense and Discontinuum can reap the profits.  Discontinuum is sponsoring the Rockford Open to an A-tier, primarily on the profits from the CFR sales.

I have seven to ten left, depending on what kind of accounting methods you use!   ::)  If anyone wants a Cubs Destroyer, I had a pre-order who is not returning my e-mails.

It was me, Kevin Cunningham, that asked you about the Raiders Destroyer at Kenosha but not the same person as on Glowfoto.  I don't know who that was.  I'm still interested in a Raiders hot stamped anything white with black or black with silver logo even if it wasnt' one of the CFR destroyers.  I felt kind of bad after the fact like I should have just taken the money you were giving back and picked up one of the others with the tournament stamp to support the tournament.  Maybe I'll just make a donation at Lombard.  If you can bring a Raiders disc of any kind to Lombard I will definitely buy it from you.

How domey are others CFR destoyers?  The one in my pic is one of the IOS#2's & is very domey, I have another I picked up for a ctp in Indy that was donated from the Corpus Christie Open, it's max weight & very flat. Could it be that my oj destroyer is domey because it's lighter (only by a few grams tho @ 172)

I'd really like another one that's flat as can be & max weight (similar to my first run star that found the pond on 19)

The Rockford Destroyers are very domey and overstable.

The Homie Destroyers from last year were very flat and not as overstable as the Rockford run.

Both companies are having production issues with the new wider rimmed discs.  It is very hard to control the final product when there is that much plastic in the rim.  This is according to an insider I talk to at Discraft.  You pretty much have to know what you want and inspect them before you buy them.  That's o.k. with face-to-face vendors like me!
Title: Re: 2008 IOS CFR Destroyers

You can flatten out a domey disc by putting it in a 175 degree oven for 5 to 15 minutes. Is this a post production modification? Maybe. Players are not allowed to make post production modifications...have a friend or loved one do it for you!!!  >:D

I once had this conversation with a player:

Player:  So bruce, I've heard that sometimes when you dye a disc it gets less domey.
Bruce:  Yeah, if you heat set the dye.
Player:  Could you dye this disc?
Bruce: DX Rhyno? DX doesn't take much dye.  What do you want on it?
Player: A flat top, mainly.  This disc, this color, this weight, I'd pay double if it had a flat top.  Domey like this its crap.
Bruce: I could try dying that disc.  And you want me to use the clear dye?
Player: Yeah, that would work.

You can flatten out a domey disc by putting it in a 175 degree oven for 5 to 15 minutes. Is this a post production modification? Maybe. Players are not allowed to make post production modifications...have a friend or loved one do it for you!!!  >:D

What's the microwave recipe?   ;D

Mostly the PT Cruiser, but I'd be happy to bring stamp removal gear to IOS 4 and make them Cruiser-free for free.  And that segues in to what I came out here to post!

Because us merch guys all have a gag agreement with Innova, you might not be aware that Innova has raised its prices twice in the last year.  I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to tell how much we're paying, but Discraft is not lying on their website.  If you go look, add 10% for shipping, and those of us who are legit also are paying sales tax.  If you see a gas station or liquor store charging $20 for Star or $18 for Champion, they're just trying to get the same standard mark up on Innova that they get on everything else they stock.  They are not really price gouging at all.

My brass prices on Innova would be 20 for Star and 18 for Champion except I don't charge zero for the free stuff.  When I do custom stamping they send free stuff.  Hats, towels, shirts, minis, disc golf DVDs -- that's all free stuff.  They send enough of that to keep my Brass prices at 18 and 16 and cover shipping and tax.

I'd be happy to put cooler art on the discs.  Artsy people feel free to help out.  And Innova stamps come off clean from the champion plastic.  I'd be happy to start bringing rags and acetone and do stamp removal as a public service.  Star plastic sometimes gets smeary when you take off a stamp, but its not like the ESP that can kind of melt and peel.

Back on topic, if anyone would like a geometric CFR disc, I'd be happy to do them.  Here are some samples that are readily available:
