IOS #2 @ Lombard, IL--05/31 & 06/01 2008
With June 1 marking the coming of summer I was looking for sunny ideas for the Lombard IOS. How about that Mayan sun god thing, I thought? I think it is actually Aztec.
On a related note, I'm always looking for good hotstamp art. As you may have noticed, I don't require that my disc art actually be related to disc golf! ;D I'd really like to come up with an Escher kind of idea. Kelsey's art teacher teaches what Escher does. I need to talk to her.
I like the sun god idea. I was gonna have Dr. Dye do a few "Eye of Ra" discs for me, but I almost always lose custom dyed discs. ::)
Was gonna say I'll be there to help out, but not sure about the date of my move.
Is it your brother who is the big DGA fan? IOS 2 will be the DGA leg of our insectoid six legged IO Series. We won't have any additional Throw Discraft Player Packs. You'll just have to wait for the Zone and the Zoom and the ESP Venom. We will have Throw DGA Player Packs and Throw Innova Player Packs.
I'll have Blowflies again, and Rogues. I'll have the new Shockwave which is a stable mid-range, a small bead Wasp, essentially. I'll also have reefs and Tsunamis. The Reef is a putter. The Tsunami is an overstable driver. Last year we sold out of Blowflies and Rogues before the end of the season, so I'll order more than last year. I'll have the long awaited DGA hats. I'm getting the traditional DGA hat unless someone really likes the mud hat.
I'll also have a DGA full weight galvanized portable basket, a Mach III or a Mach V. If it is a V, Tom McManus called dibs on it. If it is a III, it is available for brass. DGA does not have a wholesale deal on baskets. Everyone pays retail. But I can sell this one for retail for brass. Whatever they list it as on the website, that's the price.
Looking ahead to IOS III, by then I'll have a Chainstar.

I kind of like the Escher idea as it really does relate to disc golf, at least the way I play it. You see the Tee box. You see my lie and you ask yourself how did said plastic circle get from point A to Point B. It seems impossible unless you are throwing in Escher's or Barish's world.

Sure is Bruce. Unfortunate thing is he's also not into tournament play, although he is pretty good. Maybe by then I can convince him to come out. Although he has a point that brother vs. brother bragging rights are worth their weight in gold. (he usually gets the better of me)
The DGA dude told me the sun god wouldn't hotstamp well. The elements would run together -- the white areas would fill. So now i'm working on the Escher idea. I laid out the idea and he was fine with it. Interlocking waterfowl.
What about some sort of "minimalist" type stamp? Something like last year's 888, cannon or little wing USDGC rocs. I've always liked the discs that have a small stamp covering only a small portion of the discs towards the outer edge instead of the center.
Given the way DGA displays its product information, something minimalist and off-center like that just does not work. They have their product information on the disc like a donut and all you're left with is the center of the disc.
I'd like to do a thumbprint sized IOS logo like Luna's small moon logo or Pluister's small flying pig. On DGA that's not going to work so well.

Check out the CFR Destroyer & CFR TeeRex X for Sinnissippi. They will be very small.
This is also what Taylor is referring to

this is the Escher I've worked into a hot stamp. I did this for Lombard because it always has geese.

I've always liked Escher art, good disc artwork (original or otherwise ;D) as usual Bruce

That's cool. I get that the beaks are stick figures playing disc golf but what are the feather lines? Parking lot stripes? Swing sets?
Also, what's with the one dude near the bottom who is decapitated?
lol, one of the players on the right has an arm attached to their head ;)
tessellations, I remember having to make our own back in elementary school...
PREREGISTRATION FOR IOS2 IS ONLINE!
http://store.discontinuum.org/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=98
my check is in the mail
just got blocked on
5-10 and 5-17
i need to start putting
FYI: Dates are incorrect on prereg page: May 30/June 1
Serg - that better?
I think Mirth mentioned at Kenosha that on-line pre-reg has to close a couple days earlier than normal for this one. You can still register at the tournament if on-line closes before you get in. If you like to do the on-line thing, just do it today. You don't need a weather forecast for May 31/June 1. Partly cloudy, highs in the upper 70s, lower 80s, afternoon thunder showers. That's a pretty predictable time of the year for weather.
Thanks for the reminder Bruce.
Yes, preregistration for IOS2 - both mail-in and online - closes on 5/25. I will be out of town that week and won't be back until after the tournament.
Checks received while I'm out of town will not be processed for the tournament & I will contact those people to see what they want to have done.
In order to encourage early pre-registration, and because it seems to be a fair way to allocate scarce resources at a discounted price, anyone who pre-registers can also pre-select one of several players packs we have in limited numbers. These are the player packs:
The Throw Innova Player Pack. Your choice of one tournament stamped CFR Destroyer, or one CFR T-Rex, or one Star Excaliber, or one Star Wraith or two DX San Marino Rocs. Later today I hope to post a spreadsheet with colors and weights. The Junior Girls club is working on that right now. If you want one for your player pack [or two San Marinos] you can also specify color and weight from the list I will post later. These will have the Aztec sun dude on them and will also be available for Brass, 18 or 20 each. I can remove the sun dude from the CFR. I can try to remove him from the Star.
The Throw Discraft Player Pack. These are worth 20 Brass towards my already discounted Discraft. I'm not doing a Discraft order for Lombard because I'm doing a DGA order for Lombard, so my Discraft selection will be less than normal. I have a limited number of these. I'm also holding off on Discraft this time because I want to get a basket next time.
The Throw DGA Player Pack. These are worth 20 Brass towards DGA which should be priced similarly to Discraft. We'll have Rogues, Tsunamis, Blowflies, Shockwaves, plus whatever we still have from last year, Riptides, Titanics, Reefs. We'll also have some hats, shirts and other DGA swag. Tom McManus, if you are saving for the DGA basket, these are good towards that too.
I cannot guarantee that any of this will be available to those who do not pre-register. I just don't know if I will be able to create three special player pack certificates and finish trophies and get my beans and tomatoes planted this month. So I'll have to prioritize. I've already cut out TV watching and bocce in May! ;D
So Step 1 is pre-register. Once your name is up on PDGA.com or i have other confirmation that you have paid, you can select a player pack by requesting it here or communicating it to me some other way. When I confirm your request, that means it is bagged and in the player pack frozen waffle box with your name on the bag. Maple syrup is extra.
I'm in for both days (lousy performance at BG dropped my rating under 850) see you all in AM4 & AM3. I'm thinking one CFR Destroyer (max weight) and a DGA pack.
Kudos to you Bruce for putting bocce & TV aside for the IOS series. You guys ran a great tourney last time & I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
~Jesse
The Excel spreadsheet of what we have custom stamped is attached to this post. You have to be logged in as a registered message board user to see it. Signing up to use the message board is free.
Since I'm giving you guys first crack at the limited number of CFR discs and custom stamped Star Excallies, I'm not going to hold them back from the casual buyers in Michigan. I've had lots of asks for these Excalibres and Innova only had 20 available for me.
Note the three Eco KC Rocs. We can work out some kind of player pack for those. In fact, once you've pre-reged, I have enough Throw Innova sponsorship that we can work out any kind of 20 Brass player pack you might want if I have the stuff in stock.
I mentioned to Zeb that he could substitute freely and if Travellers were in short supply, he could substitute other stuff for those. Other stuff included Ript, water bottles, t-shirts, hats, towels, can openers, key chain tags, 2007 USDGC DVDs. Pre-reg and lets make a deal here.
I'll go with a Blue D on one of the 170 OJ CFR Destroyer
I've got you in a bag but i'm not dying the disc until the pre-reg people get you on the PDGA pre-reg list.
Cmon pre-reg people! I looked to the PDGA site for a pre-reg link too, I thought they got the B-tiers up a few weeks out, guess not.
Brett usually posts the pre-reg, but my guess is he is focussed on Sinnissippi this week.

You don't happen to have any birdie bag pouches do ya? Looking for somehting that will clip to my bag & can house my birdie bag.
Quotethree Eco KC Rocs
what are these? i'd like an eco kc roc....is this a typo?
O.k., i thought they were the new Eco Rocs but now i'm not sure. They are swirly grey plastic. They say KC Pro Roc on them. Maybe they are color-change discs and not the new Eco Rocs. Sometimes Innova changes plastic color without cleaning the machine and produces funky stuff like this.
I saw Cahill and Battisti pending in the store. I'll go to work on your player pack requests when i get home.
If you want a grey swirly KC Pro Roc that is not necessarily an Eco Roc, pre-reg and request it.
10-4.
I will pre-reg, but it might have to wait until I get paid.
Thanks
Bruce, I have a few questions for you about the pre-reg player's pack. I pre-reg'd today for both Saturday and Sunday. My questions are:
1. Once my pre-reg shows up do you want us to email you or post it here about what disc or player's pack we want?
2. If I pre-reg'd for a trophy only does that count towards the pre-reg players pack?
3. Since I am pre-reg'd for both days, can I reserve two player's packs?
Thank for all that you do for the IOS. It is much appreciated.

Alot of the new Innova I have seen recently is kind of swirly like they injected faster & weren't mixing the plastic as much. My new Destroyer & Xcaliber are both kind of swirly, very much so compared to my 1st run Destroyer.

3. Two pre-regs gets you two player packs.
Also, just a reminder to every pro but Spike, a pro can buy the player pack for $10. We've always done this but only Spike ever buys in. So Spike does not need a reminder.

No. None.
Just to reiterate what's going on for those who don't like to read much, I have a limited number of CFR Destroyers, CFR TRexXs and Star Excalibers for IOS #2, 20 of each. If you pre-register, you can call dibs on one for a Throw Innova Player pack. If you scroll up to this post:
http://discontinuum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=3848.msg54193#msg54193
you can find as an attachment a list of what I have, colors and weights. These are all stamped with the Aztec Sun Dude, but I could also take him off the CFR.
So like if Eric Ritchie pre-reged in the discontinuum store this morning, he could call dibs on one of those right now. I'm also fine with letting you substitute anything Innova I have for those items, up to 20 Brass in value, for your Throw Innova Player Pack.
So I pre-reg'd yesterday for both days and I would like to call dibs on a Throw Innova Player Pack. I would like a Star Excalibur Blue 172g for my first pick. For second dibs I would like a The Throw Discraft Player Pack. Thanks
Ryan Jones
players pack question? What does Brass mean? is that like dollar value toward something? If I needed a begginers bag for instance, can that 20.00 "brass" go toward that? I hope so, because a new, small bag, is in much need right now.
thanks
Ryan Jones: your player pack is in the bag.
Cpt Fidget: You can spend brass cash on merchandise at our tournaments. Talk to the people at the registration table when you get your players pack. [Kelsey, responding for Bruce, who's too busy to respond because he's reading the Sunday funnies.]
[Bruce, responding for Bruce:] Thank you Kelsey. This is fresh off the shelves:

Bruce must be busy, he's not getting to Sunday funnies til Friday!
P.S. Got enough volunteers for Saturday?
My guess is that Bruce is took a trip forward to Sunday to get the funnies and read them today so he doesn't get in trouble for spending the time on Mother's day to read them. :D
Yeah, I was [will be? it get's so confusing] in Pennsylvania on Sunday. Monday I was doing trophies for Austin's Collision Challenge at Holly State Recreation Area this Saturday and Tuesday I played league and started those Cats. I did the grocery shopping one night and more work on those discs. I've been busy. Busy is good.

I really need volunteers for Aurora but volunteers are always welcomed. If you show up early enough to help unload you get a free hot breakfast. If you stick around for loading up, there's usually a Diana-made dinner offered to everyone who helped.
No prob, will probably be there early enough to help unload. Not sure about sticking around all day, but we'll see. Aurora shouldn't be a problem for me to help out on Saturday either. Heck, it's close to Poorboy's ;D
I am definately game to help[ out in Aurora on both days. Let me know what you guys need!
Later on I'll start showing some of the special dyed discs you could call dibs on for a pre-reg player pack. We're doing a 20 Brass Throw Innova Player Pack for players who pre-register, a 20 Brass DGA player pack for players who pre-register and a 20 Brass Throw Discraft player pack for players who pre-register, so this way you get something for your on-line pre-registration fee. WE HAVE ONLY SIX THROW DISCRAFT PLAYER PACKS REMAINING. Lots of Innova and DGA.
Also, I'm going to see if we can make this a featured tournament on www.discgolfersr.us. The way that works is, once it is a featured tournament you go to the tournament page for the tournament and indicate whether you are attending. That puts your name in for a drawing for a free disc. Saying you're attending at discgolfersr.us is not the same a pre-registering. It is just a non-binding poll you can answer to get in on a draw for a free disc.
On-line pre-reg is going to close unusually early for this tournament.

That's partly my fault. I'm not sure if you can call me an "elf" but I asked Brett to hold off on posting until I get him a TD report that is already filled out with the tournament and entry fee info. I'll send it to him tonight and then I bet you'll start seeing it get updated.
And its also partly my fault for being out of town and otherwise without any free time not already spent sleeping, bathing, eating, working, commuting, and chasing after my kids.

Suggestions on economical lodging for Fri&Sat nights? I'm coming in from Indy & possibly meeting a Michigander or two for IOS #2.
There's a Red Roof Inn not too far away in Downers Grove, and it's close to restaurants (Hooters, Fuddruckers, Joe's Crab Shack, Buona Beef)

I always try to judge attendance by the number of calls and e-mails I get. I've been getting a LOT of calls and a fair amount of e-mail. I think for IOS #1 I had about 20 total e-mails and calls. For IOS #2 I'm already over 20 calls and e-mails and that isn't counting the calls that Becky gets during the day that she is able to answer and doesn't have to take a message.
That number may not sound like much but we do a pretty good job of getting all the info you need online. Calls and e-mails are usually from first time IOS players...some people need that personal connection from an e-mail or call before committing to coming to an event that is new to them.
Based on that I'm going to say that we will be well over 90 players per day...register and check in early, please!!!
I agree. I've been getting a few e-mails too. People are concerned about getting in. There isn't much going on this weekend and I have a feeling this event is going to fill.
The weather forecast for the day of the tournament calls for scattered thunderstorms. hopefully that changes, but incase it does not, what is the procedure when the weather goes bad? will we still be playing as long as it is not lightning?

Bring an umbrella :toothy2: or a raincoat. We will play if it rains. Even if its a heavy rain. :pottytrain5: I am not sure what point a monsoon would lead to a stoppage in play. If there is lightening, play will be suspended. This happened for about 30 minutes last year. It will help to have a towel stashed somewhere that is reasonably dry so your discs don't slide out of your hand.
I've been getting e-mails too. There is nothing else going on in all the neighboring states, so I'd expect a big turn out. I'd bet brass we fill. Anybody want to bet against that? Wisconsin and Iowa took the weekend off because of the Minnesota Majestic. Approximately five Illinois players are at the Majestic.

We'll stop for lightning. I remember caddying for Bruce in Worlds in 2000 and it rained so hard that we couldn't see more than 50 feet in front of us. I think it rained like that for 15 or 20 minutes. It started when we teed off and we were putting out 20 minutes later when it started to let up a bit. I've thought about what conditions I'd call a round besides lightning...the problem is that when conditions are that bad you'd never hear the horn!
It was raining so hard that day, you had to duck under the umbrella to breathe! I started to post something about that, and I was going to say 100 feet, but then I thought, "It's Jon's call. I shouldn't say anything." It was raining so hard, the drives were disappearing into it.

For those that want to pre-register, Brett has given me a green light to accept pre-reg Wed. night at Lombard doubles.
Please put your name, division, pdga #, & exact change in an envelope.
I just found out about the tournament this past weekend at the DSM Challenge through Tom. I will be playing the doubles Wed. and will bring everything to preregister for this weekend's event :)
I had some trouble finding the entry fees. I'm a new PDGA member and tournament player as of this past weekend. What is the entry for the Intermediate division?
The pre-reg entry fee for any amateur division (including Intermediate) is $28 for full entry or $15 for trophy only. All of the entry fee information is on brasscash.com.
I was just wondering what the status was on remaining throw Innova and throw Discraft player's packs.
Lots of Throw Innova and Throw DGA player packs left. Just a few Throw Discraft. Tomorrow night Kira and I are going to round up all my e-mails and message board messages and finish getting all that together. If you are preregistered and you want the Throw Innova player pack or the Throw DGA or the Throw Discraft, let me know. The DGA stuff includes Rogues, Tsunamis, Blowflies, Reefs, Shockwaves, pretty much everything they sell except the 150 D stuff.
I did a custom DGA order and a custom Innova order for this tournament so my stock is going to be a little uneven. But IOS #3 comes quickly on the heels of #2, and i'll do a big Innova stock order and a big Discraft order for #3.
I'm looking forward to my IOS Open debut. I don't think I've ever played Open at an IOS before. My goal is to not finish DFL. I've shot personal best rounds the last two rounds I've played, so I'm optimistic that I can avoid DFL.
Looks like a good INT field playing. Lots of baggers thats what i like to see

Matt,
The rules say if you are 935 or less you can play intermediate. Play intermediate. When your rating goes up you play advanced. You destroyed the field at Des Moines, good for you, it was great shooting. If someone intentionaly plays bad to drop their rating then they are a bagger. I have never seen you do that.
Back to the original thread. This event will fill. If you are planning on playing see Mike on Wednesday night, get your money to Brett, or get there nice and early on Saturday.

I don't understand this comment. Especially coming from the guy who originally registered Advanced for the Wisconsin Tour Warmup and then dropped to Int. where the remainder of the field save one was rated below 900.
is sunday's field going to be capped at x amount of players ( 5 times # of holes )
it seems to me that if you dont cap the field and let everyone who didnt pre reg
play that you are actually punishing the people who pre reg
pre - reg only is the way to go

Yes, they do. This would be all the comments that the tourney is going to fill.
I think the question is more along the lines of "Will extra holes or floater groups be added to increase the field cap beyond the current 100 (5x20)?"
It's not a simple answer and it is a decision that is usually decided during registration. Right now we are capped at 100. Factors that come into play when deciding to add extra holes are weather, how early we fill, how many volunteers we have, how many and what kind of extra baskets we have...there's probably more but that's all I can think of right now.
Quote from: airspuds on May 28, 2008, 05:25:45 AM

Nah, you save a bit of $ on pre-reg and have peace of mind that you have a spot, plus if you pre-reg you can e-mail Bruce about a players pack
Plus, I'd rather have a bigger field for this one as my drive home is only 20 minutes ;D
there's probably room to put a floater starting on 20 since it will take a little bit for the first group on 19 to play the hole. Hopefully a situation will not come up where that is needed, but yay for pre-reg :)
The other factor Jon forgot is how much room there is on the scorecard for extra holes. Our plan is best described as "Cap and Negotiate." ;D There is room for a hole or two after 20.

And what Bruce is not pointing out is that I'm generally against setting up extra holes AND I make the score cards!!! >:D But it's pretty easy for Bruce and Brett to gang up on me! ;)
Thanks for your hard work. I'm sure it will all work out..maybe the weather will keep some people away?
Also, those wanting to register for the GPO can do so on Saturday with me. Have exact change or check.
Thanks
It's still a few days off but the weekend weather is looking good for the weekend.
77 Sat 20% chance of rain
82 Sun 30% chance of rain
My prediction is that Sunday will fill to capacity and players will be turned away. Saturday will have 80 to 90 players. That's just a guess of course.
does anyone have an address for the park or an intersection to plug into a gps?
I'll have 2 extra baskets & 2 extra tee pads on hand if need be. We've used the 22 hole set up before. There is no reason to not add the 22nd hole if we play 21. You gotta get back to hole #1 somehow ;D.
I'm generally not in favor of floater groups on a course that is mostly par 3s. But if we're running 22 holes and we have 115 people who want to play, one floater group is not so bad. At some point you have to cut it off.

I'll have to check on that when I get home tonight.

Just finished playing a round at lombard n the grass is really high, I don't know if it will get cut but rollers look out of the question. The parks dept. was using it's big mower to just cut around trees nothing else. I ran into Steve Mills and Josh Romaine (sp?) and played a round with them. They are looking forward to playing on Sat. I was surprised at how packed the course was at 2 something in the afternoon but remembered that finals are right now and some seniors may have half days this late in the school year. I would say that probably 7-9 holes had a group on them the whole time we were out there.
East Madison Street and South Lewis Avenue works
The cars are packed. We're leaving early in the morning.
I will not be at the course tonight. Severe weather is in the forecast for pretty much the entire day today. Bruce might be there. I'm not positive about that.
We will play cement tees both rounds both days.
The weather looks great for Saturday & Sunday!

Becky takes pre-reg on Saturday. She will take it during lulls in regular registration and then once registration closes until the end of the day. She will NOT take it during registration on Saturday when there are people in line to register for Saturday.
We finally got all our pieces in for our new "IOS Registration Station (TM)". We have a 10x10 tent, a table that folds into a large brief case and a "bench". We haven't tried out the "bench" yet so I'm not sure if it is going to work as intended.
Look for the new Registration Station (TM) when you register or check-in this weekend. We'll also be using it as a scoring tent for the rest of the day.
This is Bruce logged in as Mike. If you want to update the pre-reg, this is what I took:
Open $45 Anthony Smith 32838
Open $45 Jason Rose 27991
Open $45 Josh Romine 20306
Open $45 Steve Mills 23516
Open $45 Michael Frame 20305

MA2 $38 Ken Parks None
MA2 $28 Adam Viele 21818
MA2 $28 Bryson Lang 35255
MA2 $28 Anthony Battisti 34451
We stuck around until the rain started up again and we had collected from everyone who had contacted Brett or I in advance.
Bruce again. For those of you disappointed about the tee assignment change, the course is very wet and any natural tees would turn into mud holes pretty quickly.
There is a lot of casual squish on the course but it is still very playable. I just got done and my feet stayed dry. Just a review, you can play casual water straight back from the basket up to 5 meters, or longer if the TD allows. You cannot move to the side. You go straight back from the basket. Unless Jon or Brett says otherwise, we usually allow infinite relief straight back from water and we give the player the benefit of the doubt as to where the water ends.

Congrats to Brett for shooting an 11 under the second round and coming from the third card to win open going away. Congrats to Brendan Cooney for shooting a 5 down second round to win intermediate. The field today was at 107.
Arrive early if you haven't signed up, only 19 spots remain.
FANTASTIC day today. Way to go Brett! The guy who won novice with a +4 (move up! haha). Huge fields - at least 40 in Intermediate, 28 in Novice (awesome!). It was another quality effort from the IOS crew :)

Awesome weather today and very well run as always. Thanks guys and gals.
It was a great weekend to be out playing in a tourney. It's too bad the PDGA doesn't recognize split days better in their rankings for the largest tournaments of the year. 217!
Pre-register for the next one everyone. It will fill, though there will be one more spot as I most likely won't be making it. :'(
Submission deadline for the next ratings update is 6/10. Jon, can I assume you'll get Lombard in for the next update?

Great day yesterday. Thanks guys and gals.
Does that party go down on the TD report as an unusual condition?
That party is an annual tradition. They were out there last year. Someone should have recorded some of it and sent it to the Annoying Music Show (http://www.wbez.org/Program_AM.aspx).
Dave Nelson hit 5 birdies in a row when that music started up. When it stopped, so did his hot streak.
Another very organized tournament and alot of fun! Thanks to everyone who made that happen. Looking forward to Crystal Lake.
Awesome tourney, thanks! Very glad I showed up to play & bomb Saturday to get me ready for a better couple rounds on Sunday.
The Waterford Junior Girls Club would like to thank everyone who got in on the popstand CTP. We gave away two 30 brass CTPs on Saturday [I won the first one, but it would have been 30 brass] and two 25 Brass CTPs on Sunday. You can get in for as little as 50 cents if you just buy a snack. The popstand had a great weekend. We've always set aside the popstand money to send the Waterford Junior Girls to Worlds and Womens Nationals and to provide sponsorship and added prizes to the women's division at various tournaments. Thanks for a super pop stand weekend.
The IOSeries crew would like to thank everyone who bought a disc with cash or bought disc with part brass and part cash. If you want to tip the tournament staff at an IOS tournament, the easiest way to do that is to buy something with cash.
I think Jon has been doing an awesome job of getting scores up. We'll miss Mike's help at the next one so it might take a little longer. See you in Crystal Lake.
Once again, thanks for all the hard work everyone put in to make yet another great disc golf experience we all know as IOS!
Thanks to the IOS team. I know there are a lot of you that work and volunteer for this series and it is much appreciated. I can't wait until Crystal Lake.
I was surprised to see that the ratings weren't a little higher for yesterday. Weather was awesome, but those are some of the better scores put up at Lombard in many tourneys. Just so happened that lots of people played well yesterday. Ah the "perfect" rating system!
Big thanks to everyone that helped run a very smooth tournament! I don't think we could have asked for better weather.

Thanks for your help on Saturday Mukey! Your help in the morning was very much appreciated and then I think you came back in the afternoon to help also!
Thanks to Adrian Sr. and Damon for helping out all day on Saturday. During the rounds it can be a pretty slow paced volunteer job (except when some casual is calling Adrian Sr. an MFer...that was kind of exciting but in a bad way) and then when the round is over it is pretty fast paced, checking cards and stuff.
I thought that the scoring tent idea worked pretty well. Being able to set up a bit away from merch and then being able to put up the screen for doing scores as the cards came in from Sunday's round two helped us to better be able to move around the score port and be able to communicate. Hopefully it is not too hard to look thru the screen to see what the scores and breaks are.
When I was getting the scores for the bag tags, I could see through the tent very easily. I think it was a great idea to get scores away from merch. You could actually hear what scores were being said and there weren't a million distractions either.
The scoring tent worked well in a lot of ways. Scorer helpers could focus on that job. Merch helpers could focus on that job. People with scores to watch could do that without obstructing the people with brass to spend, and vice versa. It spread out the crowd so that there was not the oxygen depletion problem! ;D
Ending bag tags from Saturday:
3 Brett Comincioli
8 Sean Butler
10 Todd Fanning
18 Chris Jordan
22 Nick Chernikovich
31 Bruce Brakel
35 Dave Nelson
38 Dana Vicich
52 Nate Baron
53 Tony Battisti
56 Travis Brown
60 Jason Rose
62 Kenny Glassman
65 Matt Travis
72 Tyler Williams
73 Kelsey Brakel
90 Heath Hunziker
95 Jose Diaz
110 Mike Krupicka
112 Scott Pitner
113 Ryan Jones
When I left, Heath & Dana had not picked their tag up. Does someone have them?

At first blush I thought the ratings a little low also, so I did a little analysis. Using players with PDGA ratings only:
Saturday
Average Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Intermediate -- 923
Average Round Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Intermediate -- 937.9
Percent Change -- +1.599
Average Rating, Top 9 Rated Finishers, Novice -- 828
Average Round Rating, Top 9 Rated Finishers, Novice -- 841.17
Percent Change -- +1.590
Sunday
Average Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Advanced -- 945
Average Round Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Advanced -- 960.45
Percent Change -- +1.635
Average Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Rec -- 870.3
Average Round Rating, Top 10 Rated Finishers, Rec -- 883.95
Percent Change -- +1.568
(Only 9 rated players in Novice)
Conclusion -- Looks to me like the TD spreadsheed does a pretty good job of matching round ratings to conditions throughout the skill level spectrum.

I work with two Lombard residents. If we were really interested, I am sure we could work something out to have them apply for the pavillion. I found the people to be strangely unaware of what we were doing. They seemed to mindlessly wander in and out of play. It did not seem like a language issue as most players pretty well pantomined for them to move out of the way. They either did not get it or did not care. That being said, the music was pretty amusing. It helped ease the fact that I could barely walk and didn't play well.

Skipache lives in Lombard and would just advise if we were to get the pavilion it would be advisable to do so way early...
ps. If the gave me a mower, i would at minimum mow some fairways

They were mowing on Thursday before the first rain. After that it was too wet to mow again. They would have destroyed the grass if they had tried to mow on Friday.
I was wondering whether weather or high gas prices were the cause of high grass. I would have totally understood not mowing as much because of trimming budgets vs. trimming lawns. Actually during the St. Louis Open I was at a course that was very large & open (Creve Coure I beleive) and they're answer to reduceing budget strain on the parks was to plant wildflowers in many areas of the park & they were marked as out of bounds for disc golfers. This adds difficulty to otherwise fairly wide open grip it & rip it holes (600-800ft) and shaves a ton of time & resources needed to maintain the property. I thought it would be a great idea for parks across the country. Both for time savings & OB that I stand a much better chance of retrieving my disc from as opposed to that pond on 19 that claimed my destroyer.
While finishing up the TD reports I have reposted results with prizes listed. Please let me know if the prize listed differs from the prize that you received. Also, please let me know if you are an Am that played pro and took prizes instead of cash. So far I only have Chris Jordan in that category.

It doesn't matter to me, but you have me receiving a prize while I played trophy only.
It is great that you are listing the payouts. Very nice.

I don't think anything needs to change...just wanted to make sure that my notes were complete.

I just have to go thru the cards and capture who played TO. The guys reading me names and PDGA numbers kept forgetting to tell me if they were TO or not. Brett does a good job getting the pre-reg TO into the doc but then some people switch and we have day of people signing up for TO also.

TD reports have been finalized and submitted to the PDGA. In before the next ratings deadline.
Good job. I'm hoping to move up a couple of points.
This just in, the PDGA confirms that we are not on the list of TDs who failed to get their reports in on time. http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=839336&Main=833828#Post839336
Tower Ridge on the other hand had three more weeks than us and did not make the deadline. And Pinball Pines is really slacking. Sorry for those of you whjo played those tournaments.

I know there's a ton of stuff to do to get it in correctly, but the IOS crew makes it look easy. Thanks!

You're welcome. And thanks to everything that Bruce, Brett, Becky, Mike Krupicka and Maddisen do to help me capture the data that I need to get the TD report done. (just a side note but the dictionary wants to change "Krupicka" to "pickaxe". Very weird!)
