Crystal Lake is going to fill up. Pre-reg now.  At least 20 people were turned away today at Lombard. Don't be one of the unlucky ones, pre-reg now and know you have a spot.

Nice new avatar Jesse.  D is for Destroyer!

We turned away about 30 people on Sunday at Lombard?  Pre-register and don't miss out.  You don't need to wait for a weather report to know whether you want to play disc golf in Illinois in June.  It will be warm to hot, breezy and scattered tornadoes.   ::)

With all the half-in players and amateurs playing for prizes, we had a huge-for-IOS Open division at Lombard.  I've never beat so many players in Open before.  Just to sort this out for the good amateurs, you don't have to play 1/2-in to play for prizes in Open.  You can go full-in or half-in and take prizes in lieu of cash to stay am.  And you don't have to take prizes if you play half-in.  Pros and ams-going-pro can play half-in and take the cash.  Half-in is a discount entry fee option for anyone who wants to play for half and get half if they cash.  If you want to become one of the best, start competing with the best for less at the IOSeries.

I just now submitted my Discraft order for IOS #3.  I'm getting a truck load of stuff because I was out or nearly out of lots of stuff.  It is easy to amend if there was something you wanted.  IOS #3 is the Cryztal Cruise so we'll Cryztal and we'll have a Cruiser related custom stamp.

Where you stayin Ignce?  I was just about to book a Motel6 about a half hour from the course (about midway between downtown & crystal lake)  I'm headed into Chicago Saturday night this time.  I'm also playing both days & checking in Friday night.

Who's coming with ya?  My GF is flying to Chicago so there would be 2 portions of any split on my side.  If your interested.

Bruce, I'm also going to place an order, but I can wait a little bit longer to see if I can snag some Pro Pig's or Champ Monarch's.  If I do get to order and receive it just in time for the tournament I'll bring some out for you.

woohoo, Super Shammy!  those things REALLY soak up water, will be very useful on those super wet days.

I just saw an extended commercial/infomercial on the super shammys & thought they would be very sweet for DG.  I was very close to calling in my order.  Might have to do that once I see the Innova mark up. I've got a grommet tool & pair of scissors to size em up right for the bag.  Maybe even go so far as to have the local embroidery shop slap a basket on them.

Elf Alert:  There was a lot of what looks like bagging in the Am 4 and Am 2 divisions at IOS 2.  Could you check out some of those top finishing players and let us know if we need to bump them up?  IOS 2 should be included in the ratings update, so count it.

In MA4, if we only allowed in players with established ratings, I would have tied for first. :P
Should we go back to completely restricting MA4? (of course, I'll be bumped to MA3 after the next update).

We usually don't make new rules mid-season.  This year we decided to treat it like any other division.

We'll exclude non-members based on elfin ratings, though.

The elves knew about Dave Halstead and Jon Spinazzola, neither of them should have been allowed to play Novice. (Dave is MA2, Jon is MA3) I'm not sure why the registration table didn't catch them. Maybe the elfin print is too small. The others at the top of MA4 were not known previously to the elves.

Too many lists to check at registration. Becky checks the pre-reg list as they come in but sometimes forgets when it gets busy. She often checks during the round on Saturday to see if she missed anyone but obviously she does not do that on Sunday since she plays on Sunday.

It is really hard to check lists and keep the line moving when we have lots of day of registration. We also had lots of last day and Saturday registration which sometimes gets overlooked for the second sheet.

just gives me another convincing reason to have a laptop available during registration.  take that list that the PDGA sends me, do a quick find based on pdga # or last name, make sure they are in the right division, move on (would be nice to do that while a second person is handling the money and change).

My only problem is that I'd want the laptop over by merch so that I could use the point of sale system ... hrmm...

I think checking the PDGA list is pretty fast. Checking one list is fast enough. I think checking the PDGA list printed out is usually just as fast on paper as it would be on the laptop.

We're talking about also checking the elf list (which is, of course, the list baked by little elves in a hollow tree) in addition to the pdga list. Two lists just means more checking and possibly more forgetting or more getting flustered by the long line for registration.

Went on a "disc golf tour" last year with some friends. Our last course was Lippold, shortly before sunset. It was June 24th. It must've been the quickest 18 holes we've ever played. Those woods were brutal! We literally threw and ran our way through some of the wooded holes. I can't give too many tips other than bug spray, but that doesn't keep all of them off.

All the rain we've had in the past week isn't going to help the situation any.

Post by: Bruce Brakel on June 10, 2008, 06:29:57 PM
I'm bringing a stack of previously viewed DVD movies for IOS 3 odd merch.  I got them for a price that would make sense for me to price them at 7 Brass.

Meet the Parents -- Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller
Happy Gilmore -- Adam Sandler
Meet the Fockers -- Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller
Dick Van Dyke Show -- 3 Episodes
Lord of the Rings (ROTK 3) -- Those guys
Whole Nine Yards -- Bruce Willis  Matt Perry
Pirates of the Carib. 1 -- Johnny Depp
The Truman Show -- Jim Carrey
Bruce Almighty -- Jim Carrey
Oceans 11 -- George Clooney, et al.
Oceans 12 -- George Clooney, et al.
Spiderman --

I'll have to go back for the LOTR movies.

With the swiss army knives and DVD's and other assorted flotsam and jetsam its starting to look like Maxwell Street at the Merch table. Now, if you could serve a Maxwell Street Polish for lunch and have a blues band, it will feel just right. :D

I was out there today and it got a lot, lot wetter than it was when Damon and I went there Saturday.  Crystal Lake must have had a boatload of rain.  #5's basket is surroundsed by about 100 foot moat that gets to about 6" deep.  The reeds to the right on #11 are very wet and squishy with standing water and the open area on #14 is very wet. Nice reward for making through the trees. :o Most of the wooded holes are sloppy but not too bad.  For those of you who have not been out since  last year they have added flypads.  15's flypad is under water but I could tee off from the middle of the limestone area about 20 ft in front of the flypad.  I am not sure what the TD's have decided about how many of the pads will actually be used. I assume 18 will not be used as its normally  closer to 17's tee rather than 17's basket where the pad is.  4 is now longer but a bit in front of the spot where IOS normally has the tee.  The IOS tee is 20 ft longer but has an actual route. The flypad has a luck of the draw shot up the gut and a hyzer for righties anny for lefties shot that doesn't really get to the basket but gets close enough for an easy putt.   There did not seem to be an abundance of flying arthropods.  I am not sure what will hatch between now and then. Conditions sure are ripe.

Somebody didn't quite make it in time to use the  outhouse in the parking lot. I hope they clean that up!  Yuck.

I've been working on dying discs after my rounds and before Lizard Games.  Just sitting there weeding stickers and masking discs I sell about one disc an hour.  Every time I sell a disc I walk over to the merch table and buy a disc.  So I now have three ESP Comets.  They will be $14 or 14 Brass.

Well, lookee here.  In between running back and forth to Am Nats my Innova order showed up.  I left it up to Zeb how much CFR to send me.  We've got about 20 each of CFR Destroyers and TRexXs available with the Crystal Cruise stamp on it.  The Crystal Cruise stamp this year is slightly more terrestial than last year's Romulan Warbird Cruiser.  This year it's a PT Cruiser!

We're selling these cash only to raise money for Rockford lunches.

The new fly pads at Lippold are nice.  The tees are much more level, especially on holes 5 and 6.  Brett, will we be playing from all of the fly pads?  Hole 4 has a fly pad that is about 40 feet up from the usual tournament tee.  Otherwise, The fly pads are pretty much in tournament settings.

Yes, All tees will be fly pads except #4. We will play from the old tee area which is dirt/wood chips.

Got out to Crystal Lake this morning.

I did not get bit once by skeeters.

Fly Pads are nice. They did a good job of leveling them. The only disappointments I had were holes 7 & 9. There was an opportunity to lenghten both of them. #7 would have made a tougher slight hyzer angle and moved the tee pad away from that tree right off the left corner of the pad. Moving #9 back and center could have opened up a double fairway.

There is some water on the course but it wasn't as bad as I expected. The only place the water really affected play was around the basket of #5. I'll bring an extra basket next weekend in case the water is still high. It will be placed on one of the tree stumps to the right if that water is still there. Extended forecast is calling for a fairly dry week.

Hole #19. There is some fairly deep water to the left of the pin.
Hole #20. Do not throw in the tall grass. (3 minutes to locate disc).
Hole #21. You will have to throw across the water to the basket. There are bail out areas to the left or right. If the weather is good the basket will be moved farther basket to a more elevated area.
Hole #22. Rope OB.

A couple more special merch items:

I have a Buzzz SS.  You can only get these as Am Nats, Memorial and Players' Cup discs.  $16
FLX Drone.  These are now a $20 Players' Cup fund raiser disc.  Factory misprint double stamp.  $16.
169 gram Z Storm.  This is the opaque soft "Z" plastic that Innova reinvented a few years later as Star and the Discraft copied and called ESP.  It might already be sold to a collector.  I have a standing request fior these.  If anyone wants second dibs, let me know.

Update: Kira says $8, cash only.  It is as flat as Kansas.

What are the weights on these? If they are 174 or higher, I'll take all three please!

Can I "check-in" online or maybe leave my phone number with someone to confirm I'm en route?  It's a long drive from Indy & the last thing I need is to get caught up in traffic & miss the sign-in window.  I will be there 100%.  Leaving very early Saturday morning & I drive in the middle of the night alot & have been experiencing alot of lengthy delays lately.

Hmmm.  Maybe I can get one more trophy done.

So our concept with trophy discs is they are inexpensive and uniquely related to disc golf and if you didn't want a trophy for third place it is still a disc you can throw.  If they turn out cool, that's just a bonus.

Not all of the trophy winners are getting a bonus this time.   :sign12:

Unfortunately I learned some new things.  Useful things.  But not useful for making good looking trophy discs.   :help:

Friday Afternoon Doubles at Crystal Lake
Start time 3 p.m.

$5 per person
Hi-Lo format -- The highest rated player will be paired with the lowest rated player.  Unrated players will be dealt with fairly.
100% payout plus the winning team will receive a pair of tournament stamped discs.  One each, presumably.  Your choice from the cheap stuff.  ESP is cheap stuff!

If you'll definately be there, say so, so other people will also take the afternoon off and come on out.

I'd be all for starting later except I gotta be at the course at 6:30 the next morning to get set up.

When they say 3 spots left, that means the total for all divsisions.  If the first 3 players in line tomorrow are Rec, then 3 Rec players will get in I guess....unless more get reg'd tonight, then who knows.  If I were you and really wanted to play, I guess I'd be at the course at 630am and making sure I was the 1st in line when the registration gets setup.

congratulations on getting filled before the event starts! Can't wait for tomorrow.
Guess I'll have to pre-reg for all of the IOS events from here on out. Hopefully this trend will continue for all events in the area. Makes it so much easier for everyone involed and saves us some cash as well!
Thanks guys!

I just put them all on the board and made out score cards. We have 4 spots left...TWO people pre-registered for Matt Rodgers. Dude must have some good friends!

We have 4 spots left but if we stay firm on the pros play with pros and ams play with ams rule, then they are only am spots. We have a 5 some of pros registered (from 3 divisions). We will know by the opening of registration if we are taking pros because we'll have a quick TD meeting to decide.

Generally the top ten tags go into hiding in remote parts of northern Wisconsin that do not have cell phone access.

We just got home.  Napped in Battle Creek.  Gotta clean up and go to work.

Here's my recap of things that need to be said before I mentally move on to Aurora:

Thanks to Mike Krupicka (pickaxe) for stepping up and helping even more this time since Maddisen was on vacation. Besides doing his normal help with setup, breakdown, leaderboard, merch, etc., he also helped Becky with registration.

Thanks to Tom McManus and Kenny G for their help in setting up and taking down the course. Thanks, of course, to the always reliable Adrian Sr. for coming out and helping with merch, setup and breakdown, getting ice, etc. He goes above and beyond by coming out to all the events even when Jr. isn't playing. Thanks to Scott Pitner for the tables on Sunday after the PD let us down on their promise to privide tables for us. Thanks to the guys who held down the scoring tent during the hurricane force winds after the round on Sunday.

Thanks to everyone else who pitched in and did something when I wasn't paying attention...I know you're out there!!!

We really averted a disastrous second round. The storm that sprinkled on us was just the fringe of a really bad thunderstorm that I was tracking on my Blackberry. The really bad stuff was just south of the IL/WI border. It would have been a mess if that had hit full force at the park.

Thanks for coming out and playing...support lunch at Rockford and buy one of the fund raiser discs!

One Pro Master wanted to play Pro Master.  He did not have any opponents so he slid over to Advanced.  He took last prizes.  No one accused him of being a bagger.  Another reason why I like the "pros playing am" rule.

I have tag #8. I forgot to turn it in before the event started and was going to do it at lunch and forgot again. Thats probally why I played like ass, bad karma from not turning my tag in. That wont happen again. If anyone that shot better than me wants my tag i'll be glad to give it up.

Come to doubles on Sun. We can have a tags match before or after
