The 3rd Course (Temporary) has not been approved yet. I am getting a jump start if it is approved.

I am looking for portable baskets to be used on the course. We are looking for quality baskets like:
DGA Mach 2 New, 3, 5  (No Mach 14 or Mach Lite)
Innova Discatcher Pro  (No Sport, Skillshot, or Traveler)
Discraft Chainstar
Gateway Titan

(No Lightning DB5)
(No InSTEP)

Please PM me if you can help us out.

I have a Mach 3 from the Age of the Eclipse.  I need to replace the plywood stand and it is as good as any Mach 3 from the Age of the Marauder.   ;D

Some Rockford news:

We are approved to set up three courses and we'll have the pavillion all weekend.

We have a plan for four pools to play two rounds each day.  This plan allows for three hour rounds with one hour breaks.  It also allows for players to watch other divisions play through out the day as every pool will have different shotgun start times from every other pool.

Our max cap will be 360, but our capacity in any division will be 90.  Because an A-tier will draw players from the Quad Cities and Madison and all over, we could fill.  Register early.

Pre-reg on this site should be running "soon."  The pre-reg entry fee will be $50, all players, all divisions, plus the paypal fee if you do it on-line.  If there are any spots available for late-reg, they will be $60, all players, all divisions.

There will be no trophy-only or half-in.  $50 is a great price for an A-tier.  There will be a lot of added work for the staff choreographing and directing this pool plan, so we want to keep other things simple.

We're now working on raising lunch money so everyone can have a lunch at the course both days.  We will probably have some more cash-only fundraiser discs and maybe some cash fundraiser sidegames.

Is there any thought to doing a course book similar to what Scott had for the Irish? Especially with the added holes of a temporary course, it would be a great addition to make the A tier really stand out.

There have been some changes at Anna Page.  Please see my post under "Courses".

Later this year once the grass takes ahold around the concrete tee pads on the new course the baskets will be moved back to the new course.

The 3rd temporary course will have many holes used in past IOS events along with a bunch of new holes. The holes that have been installed after #6 will be very similar for IOS #5. 6A will play straighter in that gap. 6B the tee will be pushed way farther back making it a par 4.

Ooof!  That is the last time I work with a lemur and a baboon in the same photo shoot!   ;D

This is my idea for an Illinois Open Supercolor disc.  Supercolor is the process where the image fully covers the flight plate.  I never know if i have to explain the concept [joke] for something like this, or whether what I find amusing I'll also be able to sell.  If you get the joke, is there anything i should add to the still life?  A toby?  A shotglass?  I thought of those but don't have any.

Title: Re: IOS #5 @ Rockford, IL (DISContinuum Presents The ILLINOIS OPEN)

And should I try to get the baboon and the lemur to look at the camera instead of looking longingly at the off-camera refridgerator?

I thought these animals were supposed to be professionals!   :D

Title: Re: IOS #5 @ Rockford, IL (DISContinuum Presents The ILLINOIS OPEN)

I thought of a silver spoon too, but no one here collects those.  That's a highly collectable Anchor Manhatten glass that baboon is sitting on, by the way.

I had this idea a few days ago but really didn't have enough elements for the picture to work.  Then this morning I showed up for church early because I had baked cookies and the cookies have to get there early.  [Wow, the secret life of Bruce Brakel...]  Anyway, I had time to kill so I moved my car across the street because the parking lot is not big enough for everyone who is going to show up and walking back I saw a guy was setting up a garage sale sign.  So I strolled down to the garage sale and they were selling that lovely collectible tin Illinois serving platter!   ;D  I thought, this would make the perfect background.

I thought it was one of those old railroad electric insulators that everyone used to have back in the early 80's.

I thought you were fired from stamp creating after IOS #3  ;D. I have not been able to move 1 of the CFR Destroyers with the PT Cruiser. People won't touch them. I think i've seen it all. Spaceships, PT Cruisers, Tall Grass willows. I think this latest tops the list of the worst ever stamps created.

I'll dye geometrics on them and we can see how that goes, if you want.  Jerry and Stevie dyes might sell some.  Yoda and darth might sell some too.  We can also just sell them stampless.  Bring them to Aurora and we'll swap.

The spaceships sold like hotcakes.  I had people asking me if I had any left for several tournaments after they were gone.  And the tall grass sold good too.  You never know.

Bruce,

Back to the drawing board on the full color disc.  I don't know of anyone who wants a lemur beanie baby disc. Not even lemur beanie baby collectors.

I kind of liked the idea of a disc full of collectables on an allegedly "collector's edition" disc.  However, the beanie babies may need to be 86'd.  Perhaps another element could replace them in the shot.  an actual collector's item disc? Franklin Mint? a bunch of crushed cans? parking tickets?

Back to the regular scheduled thread.

We visited Anna Page today.

On the original course hole #2 will be slightly altered for the A-Tier. Neither of the permanent pin placements will be used due to safety reasons. A portable basket will be placed in the grouping of trees straight ahead. This change will be made so players on the tee pad of #3 will not have spike hyzers daggered into their head.

The 3rd course is pretty much completed in my head. It will be fair to right & left handed players with several par 4's. Dan, Tom, & Dave did not care for my shorter version of a par 4 that would require several shorter accurate shots to take a 3. This hole would have some pucker factor with the creek directly to the left. Other than that hole I have a really good idea of the rest of the course.

There is great terrain for the temporary course.  I expect that to be atleast as fun if not more fun than the 2 permanent courses.

All right. Just over 6 weeks until IOS #5. Yeah buddy!!!

I cannot speak for Jon & Bruce but this has been a goal of mine since we started the Illinois Open in 2003.

We will do our best to offer a very organized A-Tier. Our goal has been to offer a major event with reasonable entry fee and tons of value for your buck. We run tournaments we would want to play.  I cannot tell you how crushed I am not being able to play this one but am very excited in being part of something special in Illinois.

Entry Fee-$60 (minus $10 if you preregister)
Player pack-TBD
Free Lunch-More details to come
2 Days/4 Rounds of golf at one venue. (No traveling between rounds)
$1700 minimum added cash.
IL USDGC Qualifier (1 Spot)
USADGC Qualifer

Keep an eye on this thread at www.brasscash.com for updates.

Registrations have started to come in. Make sure you get in. You won't want to get shut out of the biggest event in Illinois this year.

Bruce - you should get in touch with the Local 101 guys to see if they would be able to help with the logo designs for each tourney. Every one that I've seen that guy do has sold like hot cakes. Perhaps the small amount spent on paying for the design will equal out with the inflated sales of a sweet design.

I've only had one that didn't sell well in the past three years.  Unless the geese are slowing down the DGA.  I think DGA sells slowly naturally.

Kyle's stuff has always been a big hit.  His robot design was hot.

Jon's stuff has been as hit and miss as mine.  He tends to design for the safe middle.  I tend to swing for the fences.  I sold my Peoria Open discs because of the stamp.  I've never really sold Trackers before or since.

Most players don't care what ugly piece of coprolite is stamped on their disc.  But for those who care, I like to try.

This is more for the courses forum but with the A-tier coming I figured I would post here. I played the West Course today. Concretes are in! This course is very enjoyable with concrete tees. I could not find #'s 14 & 15. The 16 holes I played were challenging and fun. I think 14's basket is a touch deeper and 13's tee is a bit back nd to the left of the old tee. Some of the signs are missing. I played both courses and found them to about equal in their challenge. Can't wait for September.

after shooting 11 go to the left instead of to old number 12, the new 12 shoots back across the big field into some trees then the new 13 comes back across the field yet again then you go to the old 12 which is now 14. confusing but less cramped on the last nine holes. i believe the two new holes are at least 400ft

ROCK CUT STATE PARK

7318 harlem rd Loves Park, IL 61111 815 -885-3311

Chiseled out of the state's far northern region is Rock Cut State Park in Winnebego County. Nearby are other "rocky" landmarks - the mighty Rock River and the place where wagons once forded it, Rockford. It's an area of rolling plains, interesting history and recreational variety.

Two lakes set off the park's 3,092 acres. Pierce Lake, with 162 acres, is a retreat for people wanting to fish, ice fish or ice skate. A second 50-acre Olson Lake is especially for swimmers. Rounding out the park's recreational options are camping, hiking, horseback trails and cross-country skiing. Whatever the season, you can be sure there's quite a bit of activity going on at Rock Cut State Park.

Hours

Summer hours (April - October) 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Winter hours (November - March) 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The Park's Present
Because water serves as a welcome mat to birds and animals, wildlife watchers to the area won't be disappointed. Birders report good viewing, with waterfowl being abundant. Deer, fox, muskrat, woodchuck and beaver inhabit Rock Cut State Park as do opossum, raccoon and both gray and fox squirrel. Over 100 types of wildflowers offer a showy display each spring and summer, while the hardwood trees dazzle you with their reds and golds every fall.

Trails
The trail system at Rock Cut offers opportunities for hiking (40 miles), mountain biking(23 miles), and equestrian(14 miles) and has been completely remarked. Trail users will find updated trail head/information signs at picnic areas and trail access points for trail information and regulations. Only certain trails are designated for mountain biking and equestrian use and are identified by colored trail markers. Blue trails are for mountain biking and hiking, yellow trails are for equestrian and hiking and red trails are restricted to hiking only.

Rock Cut also offers access (at the Pierce Lake spillway) to the Willow Creek Bike Trail and Perryville Path, a paved trail system connecting the local communities of Loves Park and Rockford to Rock Cut State Park.

Camping
For those who want to include an overnight stay in their visit to Rock Cut, the park offers 28 Class A-Premium sites for reservation, 180 Class A-Premium sites and 60 Class B-Premium sites on a first-come first-serve basis. There is also a primitive cabin available for reservation. It has electricity, but does not have water or plumbing facilities.

Open year round, the campgrounds provide water, electricity, sanitary dump stations, showers, toilets, a boat launch and playground equipment. Only electricity and pit toilets are available in the winter season. Equestrian camping is restricted to a site on Hart Road. Rock Cut is a very nice campground.  Unfortunately its on the opposite side of town, so you are looking at around a 25 minute drive from there to Anna Page.

The only thing I would add to that info is that all the courses are at one park and lunch should be included. You will not need to drive anywhere during the day which cuts down on car pool headaches.

I've put together a flyer attached here.

theres a hotel about 15min from the park called the six penny inn on hwy 251 south, off of hwy 20. its 24.95 and up a night.

i played the park today and they just mowed, there were some punks out there breaking some of the signs on the newer course. i chased them off but now there are more signs gone.
looks like the park district has been out there pruning things and getting rid of some of the dead branches and stuff.

if you have a chance you should definetly go practice before the tournament cause theres some shots that you'll probably want to throw a couple times to find which path to take.

there are also a couple forest preserves one on mulford road (blackhawk spring) and one on blackhawk road (kishwaukee gorge) that use to have basic camping for about ten bucks. ill find out when i drive by them in a couple days. i'll keep things posted i only live 25 minutes away.

to six penny inn

if you are comin from the chicago area, on hwy 20 west exit on the hwy 251 south exit go about 2 blocks and hotel is on your right (west) side.

to get to the park from six penny, get back on hwy 251/11th st north, then get on hwy 20 west to the main st/ rt 2 north exit(its about 2 miles), exit north, then you go through a couple stop lights and take a left on springfield rd(if you turn right it will be harrison st), this will curve around and take you to anna page, about 7 miles

you can make it to anna page from six penny in 15 to 20 min, if there is heavy traffic it might take 20 to 25min.
you will be staying on the southedge of rockford  (kind of by the airport) and with these directions you dont have to drive into rockford.

there is a mcdonalds, arbys, dennys, bars and other places not that far from hotel

to blackhawk campground

if you are comin from the chicago area, on hwy 20 west exit on the hwy 251 south exit go about four blocks to blackhawk rd turn left and go about a mile, it will be on your right

to get to anna page, turn left(west) out of campground on blackhawk rd go to hwy 251/11th st turn right(north) get on hwy 20 west go to the main st/ rt 2 north exit (its about 2 miles), exit north, then you go through a couple stop lights and take a left on springfield rd(if you turn right it will be harrison st), this will curve around and take you to anna page, about 7 miles

im not to shure how to get you to and from rock cut cause i dont drive by there very much. i drive by the other places everytime i go play anna page

The main entrance for Rock Cut is on 173 West of the tollway. There's an alternate entrance on Hart Road off of 11 (Perryville Rd).

From the tollway - Exit Hwy 55 (Riverside Blvd) and go West to 11, turn right. Turn right on 173 which is also known as Lane Road.

To get to the park from Rock Cut -
Take 173 West to Hwy 251 (2nd St), turn left.
Turn right on 55 (Riverside Blvd).
Park will be on the right after the road takes the big south curve.

Howdy discers.

Zak here from Rockford with a somewhat off-topic post.

Although I will be unable to play in the IOS (I'm living out in Portland, OR right now) I'd like to know if there are sponsorship opportunities left for any of the holes.  My family owns a restaurant and bar (http://www.theolympictavern.com/) about 10 minutes away from Anna Page -- a few of the emails I sent out asking about sponsorships bounced back to me, so if anyone has the TD's email, I'd appreciate it.

Also, there are lots of hotels out on 90 and E State Street, but they're probably somewhat pricey, and are about 20-30 mins away from the course.  I know of at least one closer one located next to Cliffbreakers on Riverside -- only about 7 mins away.
This might help you as well:  http://www.gorockford.com/accommodations.asp

Cheers -- and have fun at the IOS.

-Zak

went and played the west course today and there were some branches down, but the park district was out there cleaning them up. i marked arrows on the ground at 11 through 17s baskets directing where to go since they added a new 12 and 13 and rearranged some others. hopefully this helps some of you when you go practice for tournament. ill probably go and remark them every couple weeks. looks like there was a new sign or two on the holes that were broken.

The signs on the east course are nice and accurate.  The signs on the west course were cheap and made out of  particle board or  something and half of them were so rain soaked that you could not rely on them. Does anyone know if they will be replaced or repaired?

the baskets on the east course are all moved to the IOS #5 placements, except hole two, i do believe that one will be straight and slightly to the right into the trees so people teeing off on hole three dont get shanked in the head. only a few weeks left, practice while you can.

We won't have a finalized schedule until we have finalized pools.  Everyone will play all three courses.  Everyone will play two rounds on Saturday and two rounds on Sunday with about an hour between rounds. All of the courses are in the same park, so no one will have transportation problems once they get to the park.

It looks like we've raised about enough money for free lunch on Saturday. We're still hoping to raise more to cover Sunday. If anyone knows someone or a company or whatever that would like to help sponsor lunch please have them contact one of us.

If you want in on the free lunch you have to register by the end of the day on Tuesday, September 2nd. This way Bruce will be able to get a count for the catering.

Also, if you are in a division that has no one registered right now, you might want to register right away. Bruce has to order tags for trophies soon and he's not going to order them for divisions that are not represented on the pre-reg page.

People keep telling me that this tournament is going to be huge...get registered today!

With four pools and three courses, one pool will show up Saturday morning, check in, attend the players meeting, and then "have a bye" for the 9AM round.  Will it be posted which divisions will be in that pool before Saturday morning?

There will be a pool teeing off every hour.  So some players will tee off right away and some will have a one hour wait on Saturday and some two and some three.  I'm hoping we will be able to finalize the pools well in advance.  But it depends on how pre-reg goes.  After I spray the blueberry bushes, I'll see if I can do something with the schedule.

Just a reminder to play Rockford you must be a PDGA member. Wait until Sept 1st if you play to joing.

Joining after September 1st, memberships are extended through the following year. So you get 4 months in 08 and all of 09 as a PDGA member. This also goes for those renewing that have not been current in the past 5+ years.

Note for those of you who are lending a basket for the tournament and don't already have wing-nuts for the 3 bolts on the basket...

I found out that my Discraft Chainstar has fine threaded bolts, and the standard wing nuts that I bought at the hardware store were for course threaded.  So make sure what you're picking up will work.

I bought two sets of nuts and bolts for myself - they are 1/4" bolts - 2 1/2" long, course threading.  There are 1/4" wingnuts that you can also pick up.  I bougt these at a Sears Hardware, and I paid $0.16 per bolt and $0.22 per wingnut.  2 sets was something like $2.51.

Having this proper hardware certainly makes it easy to set up and tear down those temp baskets!!!

I'm thinking about hitting up this tournament and have a couple questions:

1)  How many layouts will we play in the MPO division?

2) will it be possible to see all the layouts on friday?

thanks,

Tanner Duncan

There are three courses that will be played. All courses will be playable by noon on Friday. The temp course will not have baskets on Friday, but will be clearly marked. Course information is on this thread:

Hope you can make it.

Maybe someone has answered this already but,   if we are playing 4 rounds on 3 courses,    which course will be played twice?

It will be different for each pool.

The last round is an ironman. 54 holes!  :D j/k.

Which course you play twice depends on the pool, and I believe the mapping of divisions to pools is still TBD. Help the TDs out. Pre-register so that the division to pool mapping can be determined ahead of time.

What up Tanner? A few have already answered some questions but i'll add my info since i'm the course guys.

Some final pools are still TBA but I do know MPO for sure.
MPO will be playing 1 round on the east, 1 round on the temp, & 2 on the west course.

The West course is in Tourney position.

The East Course is pretty much ready to go. Only 2 holes are affected. Hole 2 will have a temporary basket to avoid conflicts with #3 tee pad and #16 has to be moved to the short location to avoid these conflicts as well. #2 will be marked by noon on Friday and the basket will get moved by that Friday.

The temporary course will be clearly marked by noon on Friday. The baskets will not be out but you will be able to play the course.

It's all frisbee golf.  Tee here, basket there, throw it to the basket.  No invisible trees.  No tricky windmill holes, or holes where you have to know where each of the three tunnels comes out at.  You can prepare for this anywhere.

Aw Gee.  I figured that with an A tier we would at least have a hole where the disc rolls down the dinosaur's tail towards the basket but lands in a tree if you don't get the disc in the dinosaur's mouth. I've been practicing that shot and have teeth marks in my disc to prove it.

No trouble anywhere?  Perfectly manicured fairways?  No schule?  Why play 3 different courses then, if it's all the same?

And I guess all the tee signs have accurate distances?  There are tee signs with distances correct?

Dude, chill out. Bruce was just trying to be humorous. If you are humor free then try this translation:

The course is well maintained by the local club and the Rockford Park District. Distances will be supplied on score cards and/or signs. Most of the holes you can see the basket from the tee. Of the few blind holes, all but one or two can be seen by walking a little bit down the fairway. Even if you don't walk it, the signs are fairly helpful. The location of the shule is pretty obvious and there aren't really any holes that are unfairly punishing. I'd recommend walking the temp course as that course might have a few extra surprises with OB. OB is pretty much not a problem on the East and West courses.

Tanner,

There is schule. There is water on the temp course. There are some tight fairways and some open. For the most part you could probably play these courses blind but seeing all 3 will help for sure. You could play all 3 on Friday and still have enough in the tank for the weekend.

The distances on the temporary course will be accurate. I am measuring them myself. I did not measure the East or West courses so i'm not sure how accurate those are. I used the distances on the signs. Those distances will be on the score card and tee signs.

shot yesterday here with spike and i think tate is his name, and noticed the park district has been mowing very often to keep the grass low and they've been keeping fallen branches picked up. the directional markings on the ground guiding folks from basket 11 through hole 18 on the west course are getting worn out so i'll have them repainted by the weekend for those that are coming to practice. the markings have stayed for three weeks at a time so they should still be there when the IOS #5 starts.

I noticed the comment on Avery being on the list.

We don't really have the entry fee base or added cash that should lure touring pros, but it might be that there is not much else enticing on the schedule and we're geographically close to the previous weekend's A-tier in Wisconsin.  Whatever, it's always nice to have a world class player at your tournament.

Since the questions reflect that people are not finding their way to the informational website,

ATTENTION: Pro Women and Pro Masters

The plan for added cash is as follows:  The $4 per player PDGA fees for pros will be paid out of the added cash, $1700 or $1800, however much it is.  No other tournament expenses [park use fees, sanctioning, trophies, etc.] will be deducted from the added cash.  What remains, probably $1500 or $1600, but whatever it is, it is all going to the Open Pro division.  In the manner in which the PDGA does math, that's a 110% payout, or more, for the gender and age restricted pro divisions, but mathematically by the 6th grade text book, you're getting 100% of your entry fee back.  I would not be surprised if the Open pros wind up getting 200% of their entry fees back, but the more who play, the smaller the % return.

When other TDs do this, sometimes there's bitching afterwards on PDGA.com.  I've made an effort to let some of the touring pros know that this is the plan, especially the men who tour with women, like Jay and Des.

This week we've gotten several donations from quite a few sponsors. Those sponsors will be listed on the website and the player guide.

I can tell you that along with the regular IOS CTP's there will be quite a few added CTP's to this event. To this point and with conservative retail value of what I have on hand there is $300+ to be awarded. I an awaiting a few more shipments to arrive. They will be awarded by divisional CTP. All CTP markers will be dropped into a box and randomly drawn. Players can come up and pick whatever prizes they would like.

I was eyeing a sweet looking Crystal Z Buzzz, Star XCalibur, CFR Star TeeRex X, & SB Star Wraith.

Bruce, can you provide a progress update on the pool schedules?

Quote from: Bruce Brakel on August 21, 2008, 03:53:40 PMThere will be a pool teeing off every hour.  So some players will tee off right away and some will have a one hour wait on Saturday and some two and some three.

This is an interesting way to schedule the tournament, sounds like it could work.  But if people don't know about it before hand, it could cause some confusion on Saturday morning and some of the grumpier participants may not like it.  I plan on spreading the word to anyone I know who's going in the hope that it will help avoid some problems.  Knowledge is power.

- Will they pretty much be the same layout as last year?
- Are they 18-hole courses?
- Will check-in be available on Friday at all?

They must have fixed them then. I know it was the 600ft hole. Maybe it is 10.

I haven't looked through the thread all the way but a few questions on the courses:
- Will they pretty much be the same layout as last year?
Mostly the same. On the East course, hole 2 is to a temp basket (no boomerang shot req'd.)
The temp course uses 6 of the holes that have been added in past years.
Quote
- Are they 18-hole courses?
Yes, three 18 hole courses.

At illinoisopenseries.com it says check in is from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. Saturday.  There is no plan for Friday check-in.  I think Jon, with his new job, is not sure when he and Becky will be at the course on Friday.  So plan on checking-in at check-in time.

Each course is 18 holes.  Not 20.  Not 22.  Each course will have a shotgun start.  They will start at one hour intervals.  We have it choreographed in Excel so that each pool has a three hour round, a one hour break and then another three hour round on the next course in the progression.  Three hour rounds should be entirely realistic for these courses, assuming the temp course is of the same character as the permanent courses.  I would expect 2.5 hour rounds.  If you play fast you get a longer break.  If we have a lightning delay on saturday, we've even planned for being able to stop play at dusk for the last round and finish it early the next day.  The pool that finishes the day on Saturday and the course that finishes the day on Saturday would both be available to finish a darkness interrupted round early Sunday.  I don't think that is going to happen, but the possibility is built into the course choreography.

We were planning on doing staggered awards on Sunday too.  If you have the early tee time you should be able to get your prizes after your round and still see some of the pro's last round, if you want to.  Awards should run rather smoothly because we aren't offering trophy-only or half-in for this.

I like the staggered start idea.  The one concern that I do have - and it's really more just for the other people that are already started on their rounds - they need to pay attention to what time it is in relation to the other start times.  All 3 of these courses are right next to each other, and if someone is trying to concentrate on a putt when there's all of a sudden a loud bull horn noise followed by yelling of two minutes - it might screw up someone's shot.

Unless you plan on doing some sort of silent start...

IMO the plastic chains should be replaced with metal chains.

im gonna go up there tomarrow ill find out what baskets and how many chains need replaced(only a couple). ill also remark the directional markings on the west course so no one gets lost.

I've played tournaments with the staggered starts like that in one park.  2000 Worlds and 2008 Worlds for example.  Maybe one of the Homies.  So long as they are staggered enough that one course's start is not mistaken for the other, hearing the horns and the yelling on the other course never bothered me.  The gunshots from the 'hood at Milwaukee Worlds were more disconcerting than the staggered horns at Three Rivers.

The bigger problem is with people who want to get on the course when it is still in use before their round.  Sometimes those people will go out and spot and be helpful.  Sometimes they wander around looking for their start hole and slow things down.  At Iowa Worlds they banned you from setting foot on the course in use.  We probably won't have the staff for that.  At Kalamazoo they used sarcasm.  I heard Larry, or someone at Pinball Pines when he was there, saying in a Larry sort of way, "Gentlemen.  If you want to speed up the ladies, go out and spot.  If you want to slow them down, go out and wander aimlessly in packs.  It's your call."

went and marked the directional arrows and numbers on holes 11 through 18 on the west course this morning. all the baskets on west side are fine newer baskets, nothing wrong with any of them. on the east side the few plastic chains are gone and they are metal now. on hole six there is some yellow marking paint on the top of three chains so you can see the basket through the trees and shrubs. they were mowing both courses when i left. the two permanent courses look great and are ready for some practice. have at it.

Is it not possible that for the group that tees off first - after their one hour break, some cards might still be out there on their next course in progression?  Granted you would think that with a max of 4-somes on each card and only 18-holes that 3 hour rounds should not be a problem.  I guess one way to make sure that it's safe to send everyone out is that every card has already been turned in.

Is it also safe to say that there will be a shuffle within your pool after every round? (also assuming that no division will spill to multiple pools)

Some fun holes await us next weekend. I truly enjoyed the shots needed and man is there O.B. Lots of people out there today. Can't wait till next weekend.

It is possible that three-hour rounds will be too fast for the slowest players, but I really think the everyone will be off the two permanent courses in three hours.  I have not seen the temp course.  Brett thinks it will play like the other two courses.  You have to remember, if you've played previous IOSes at Anna Page, that we've never done 18-hole rounds there before, usually 20 or 22, but it seems like we've always done 3-hour rounds.  So I think the rounds should play 15 to 30 minutes faster.  But if things go over, we stretch out the schedule or shorten lunch.  An hour lunch seems like forever when there is food right there and you don't have to go anywhere.  The Saturday schedule ends a half hour before sunset, and Sunday ends an hour earlier than that, so we have some wriggle room.

The temp course will play very similar to the other 2 courses on the property.  4-somes on those 3 courses should not run over 3 hours.

There will be a sort for every round.  I think it is safe to say that your division will not be split between pools.  The only way any division would be split between pools would be if a division exceeded 90 players or five divisions exceeded 45 players.  This isn't Bowling Green.  That's not going to happen.  We have a plan if it does, but forget about it.

Other news and updates

We are getting a huge pile of donated CTPs.  Dave McCormack of Gateway just donated 43 CTPs.   :o  A lot of clubs have been donating stuff.   8)  Plus we will do a tournament round of Brass CTPs.  Should be a huge CTPfest.

Innova is supposed to be donating bonus stuff, but not for CTPs.  After I explained to Mr. Duvall how we price average the free stuff with the bought stuff, he said he'd send a lot of extra free stuff and he wanted to hear that I reduced my prices on Innova.  I have not seen the invoices yet.  I don't know what he sent but someone called the other day and asked if they could substitute Discatcher Sports for the Skillshots, and he was using the plural.

Right now the lunch plan is for $1 you will get two large slices of pizza (1/4th of a large round), a beverage and maybe chips.  Lunch will be supervised so no one is running off to his car with a box for himself.  We will try to over order to ensure that no one gets stuck with the last two slices.  You will pay at lunch time.  We're going to do this both days.  If we're overcharging you on Saturday, Sunday might be free to you.  It depends on how many play and how many eat.

There are two things that really slow down a round (ok, there's a third that Barret mentioned to me today, but it is non sequitor).
1- 5 somes.
2- players who can't keep track of where their disc went.

#1 should not be an issue next weekend.
#2 is up to the players to help any space cadet cardmates that they might have.

I think we're up to 100 now, counting the ones that have not been processed.

I'm attaching the course and pool schedule.   The Open pool is assigned and won't be changing.  The other divisions will be filled in later.  If we cut a pool because we don't need it, we'll cut pool D.  But it would make more sense to run smaller, faster pools than to cut a pool.  Pools should be set Friday evening during the doubles.

For the people who have a long wait between the player meeting and tee-off on Saturday, please observe that the temp course will be available for practice during most of that wait.  The temp course starts late and finishes early each day so it can set up and taken down during the daylight.

These are tentative pool assignments.  If they change, I'll edit the post!  >:D

A: Recreational and other ams.
B: Open and other pros.
C: Advanced and other ams.
D: Intermediate and other ams.

We'll put all pros and only pros in the B pool if possible. All other small divisions will be decided on Friday night depending on how they fit in, so I won't even speculate.  I think we want to run no more than four divisions in each pool if that works out.

If we lock-in the schedule Friday during doubles then you could check-in Friday and then not have to show up until your tee-off time.

We are closing registration early so that people will sign up early so that we can have a plan for what we're doing. We're also charging a $10 late fee that will NOT be applied to prizes for the same reason. We NEED people to pre-reg and in order to make all of our plans we need pre-reg to close on Wednesday. We'll still be glad to take registration after that until Friday evening, but it's going to cost you.

We don't want to run fivesomes and we don't want to combine pros with ams.  So, somewhere around  180 or 190 ams we'd be locked into four pools if registration goes evenly.  Somewhere around 210 ams we'd have to put some am divisions in the pro pool.  I don't know if we'll get that many ams.

I think it would work better for all to run smaller faster pools than to have fewer pools with more players.  You will have fewer back-ups.  It will be easier to get the scores up and leaderboards done timely for each pool.  Lunch will go more smoothly.  I think we should all just plan on going with the four pool plan.  If you are not in pool A you can use that extra time in the morning to see the temp course, walk with a friend in pool A, watch the pros in Pool B or play euchre in the morning sunshine.

I'm still curious to see how many players we get.  A two-day A-tier is a different concept for IOS players.  Sometimes new concepts are poorly received.  The nice thing is, it doesn't matter.  If registration tapers off and attendance is small, we'd have 300% payouts for the pros, more CTPs per player -- in many ways the tournament gets better if it is smaller.

That's a good plan.  Now that we know we might be waiting to tee off until 11 or 12, we'll be ready for the down time.

Jon is reminding me that Anna Page is one of the parks where we cannot sell food.  That's why doing lunch has always been a problem for the IOS.

Lunch will be free on Saturday.  We're not there yet for Sunday.

A lot of people are away for the weekend.  A lot of people have not been paying attention.  Brett sent out a mass e-mail tonight.

We've had IOSes fill to 200 or so when there were only 100 in on Thursday night when I was packing the car.  I bet we'll get around 200 for this.  But if it stays light, free lunch on Sunday should be no problem.

I'm not worried about the attendance.  It's not like we need 150 ams to cover the pro purse.  The pro purse is in the bank already.  And if it turns out that Illinois players just don't want to play A-tiers, well then we'll know.

trying to get to 2009 AM WORLDS. Gonna need all the points I can get, considering I will only play in about 14 total trnys this year. Only 8 under my belt now, got a late start this year with the shoulder injury. I only have 762 points after those 8 trnys. So I need ALOT of advanced players to have a real chance at getting the INVITE next year.

oh cool. I was told you needed an invite, no more players waiting lists, like the 1995 & 1997 Worlds was. I played in those, but had INVITES to both. But anyone could pre register, and they would get there chance after INVITES were not sent back in.

Thanks for the info. Guess I can play just a few and not worry about points at all.

PDGA 7648, if you want points, you should play in the division indicated by your rating.  Having a lot of players in the division does not help your points situation.  Beating a lot of players is what improves your points situation.  Intermediate has a lot more players you should be able to beat and that's going to outweigh the better multiplier in Advanced.

They don't do a waitlist for Worlds anymore, like someone said.  They let players in first-come first-served from those who qualified.  If that does not fill it, they let all other players in, first-come first-served.  Some divisions filled this year.  But everyone who sent in their entry form as soon as they could got in this year, whether they qualified or not, [except one guy that they quietly excluded from the tournament.]

Kansas City will be able to take as many players as this year, and not as many players will want to go.  You should be able to get in with or without an invitation.

and I wont sandbag to get to WORLDS. Have been playing AM1 or advanced since 1996. Played from 94-98, but took 9 years off to get career and a 14 yr old son at home to some time away from me. To me the ratings don't mean a thing. I know I could win intermediate tournaments, but why SANDBAG?

While you were taking time off the PDGA redefined the divisions.  You would not be sandbagging.  You would be playing according to the new divisional system.  But play where ever you want.  If your goal is points, playing where your rating puts you is generally the best strategy.

The serious answer is found in the 2008 PDGA Competition Manual.

3.4. Dress Code
A. All competitors and staff are required to wear a shirt.
B. All competitors and staff are required to wear shoes or
other foot coverings. Players will not be allowed to play in
bare feet. Sandals or slides are allowed.

my point is, the rating system blows. For instance, it says I'm at 929. If you were to look at my PDGA tournys played, you would see a 2nd place at Indiana State Championships. The TOP 3RD of each division played a FINAL 6 holes, PAR 18. I shot a 14, where the next best was 17. My 14 was a rating of 1084, 155 points higher than my rating of 929. If Baggers BAG in the advanced division, then you have those that more or less quit, but continue to take a HUGE amount of strokes, that kills us that shoot middle of the pack.

If I played Internediate, my hometown boys would never let me hear the end of it. If you looked at my 8 trnys, 6 are TOP 10 finishes, with 2 2nd's and a 3rd. I'm not playing in the correct division by those places??? And to play INTERMEDIATE, would not be FAIR to the true INTERMEDIATES. Sure there are BAGGERS in that division as well, but IN EVERY division there are except OPEN DIVISIONS. I'm not 1 of those players to play in a division I know I would rule. That would discourage the true INTERMEDIATES.  I am playing in the correct division, as I still am able to place. I don't expect to win every tournament. The sport would be boring if that was the case. I just simply stated that more need to sign up, being an A TIER and all.
But Bruce, thanks for your help and input.

Was looking at the Quality where it seems others are staying but they only had King bed rooms left and I don't think 4 of us will sleep comfortably on that bed...The Ramada was also about $20 cheaper and has a "FUN DOME"

If anyone else is considering the Ramada let me know. It's 18 miles from the course and says it's about the same travel time from some of the other hotels.

Jon and Becky handle leaderboard stuff.  Usually we let people change divisions.  Usually we don't do designer foursomes.  Jon and Becky are the ones to ask.  Jon at brasscash dot com.

So if you're looking at 227 for one on the other side of Iowa, 180 at St. Louis, and 168 in Wisconsin, I don't see why this event can't get to at least the 170 level.  Yes that would mean 40 more registrations between now and Saturday... would be really nice to see.

At least a couple of those other A-tiers attendance was affected by the IOS, well... by one attendee :)  If memory serves me correctly I skipped 2 a t-tiers in favor of chasing a series title in the IOS.  well, than & I know for a fact your tournies are very well run!

Sorry in advance if this has already been asked. But looking thru the handbook, it shows Par for Old course on scorecard of 56, 2par 4's. New course is 57, 3 par 4's. Will we play those holes as 4's in this tournament? As we didn't in the GRABM CLASSIC.

Thanks, Doug

The only time it matters is when you get a penalty based on par. When you are late to tee off you get par plus 4 throws. When I check scores I just pretend everything is par 3 for ease of counting.

If you are late to tee off for your round you get par + 4 on every hole you miss.  That is the only purpose for par under the rules.

When you add a score card the easiest way is to treat every hole as par 3, even if they are not, and add up under or over 3s, and then add or subtract that to 3 X the number of holes you just played.  Par 4 holes have nothing to do with how you add up a scorecard, unless you want to add it wrong.

When you talk about your score afterwards, your friends will be more impressed if you talk about under or over course par without telling them that's what you mean.   ;D

its raining hard over this way and has been since yesterday about 6pm. the permanent courses usually dont hold water just get a little muddy in spots. its the temp course im worried about cause that creek the course follows is where the rain runs off to and floods pretty bad.

If the creek runs high, then it just means the temp course is tighter. No worries.

It is NOT bring your own partner. It will either be hi-lo or random draw. Bruce was planning on running hi-lo but he may have to delay his drive to Illinois in order to wait for Discraft's tee pads to arrive. It will then fall on Brett to run doubles and he will probably run random draw because he will be too busy setting up the temp course to organize the hi-lo. But either way it will NOT be bring your own partner.

We might not be there before doubles but we'll be there by the time you're done. For those that aren't playing doubles but will be at the course on Friday, please check-in. Hi-Lo means highest rated gets paired with lowest rated.  Next with next.  For the very few unrated players we'll do something fair.  Doing this at Women's Nats one year the second highest rated won, highest came in second, and a very balanced team got last cash.

Best shot.

I expect to be there.

looking for some Illinois residents travel advice; I'm leaning toward just making the 5 hourish drive in the morning since everyoe from Indy backed out & I need to keep expenses lol.

Would it cut any time (by skipping the drive through Chicago) by taking 74W & coming up through Bloomington to Rockford?  Any know large construction projects on that route?  Mapquest shows it about 30 miles longer but I get to avoid Chicago & get out of Indiana asap (Kinda got pestered by police on my way to IOS#4)

so... 65 north through Indiana & Chicago or 65w & come up through Bloomington?

skip chicago, the traffic and construction in chicago will take longer  than going the extra 30 miles to take the bloomington route. i live just south of rockford next to interstate 39 and everytime i go to indy i take the bloomington then champaigne route. chicago just always takes so long...................... and theres no tollways to pay

take interstate 74 west out of indy to interstate 39/51 north by bloomington/normal. stay on interstate 39/51 north all the way to  20 west in rockford ( not buisness 20) hwy 20 west. on hwy 20 go to main st exit. follow main st. a 1/2 mile to springfield/harrison rd. turn left. this is springfield road follow to the park about 7 miles.     you can also stay on hwy 20 to the montigue rd exit but there is construction and sometimes is backed up. hope this helps

Honestly at that time of the morning I don't think you are going to have to worry much about the Chicago traffic. I live a few miles from downtown and I've only hit traffic on my way to one tourney when leaving the morning of and that area won't be an issue since it was north of the route you'll be taking.

Thanks, I think I'll go with that route through Bloomington. I've encountered lousy traffic pretty much everytime I've gone through Chicago (all but one time for IOS events) Tolls bug me more for having to slow down & pay them rather than actuall paying the toll.

See you guys/gals in the morning!

Ditto Taylor.  You want to be passing through Chicago between 5 and 6 am and there will be zero traffic on a Saturday morning.  If you took the tollway, I 294, has some contstruction but that should not slow you down either.  You could fly (at the speed limit) right through the city.  Drive safe on whatever route you take.

Looks like we have a field of about 200. We have 200 on the leader boards but we have 5 players that we don't know their division. So we probably have 205 players. Avery, Des and Jay are our three biggest names playing. Oh, and Angela Tchigfre (my apologies on the spelling). Angela is a National Champion so I shouldn't leave her off. If she becomes a World Champ then I'll learn how to spell her last name.  ;D

*anxiously awaiting day two*.  Smoothest A-Tier I've played so far... ok, so this is only my 2nd A-Tier.  Anyway, I'm having a fantastic time... Brett, Jon, Bruce, everybody - they are all doing an excellent job.  West ate me up, but thankfully I don't have to play that one again!  Reports are that the temp course is pretty brutal - hopefully I'll minimize the OB!!

Thanks guys for putting on a STELLAR show.

Scores for today are up.

http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7349&year=2008&includeRatings=1#Open

Ratings should be accurate because I took the time to put all three courses in and assigned the rounds by division and what division played what course each round.

It seems to me that things are going TOO well. Although this is much more work than our normal tournament it is doable and not too stressful.

The staggered starts are great and Brett's temp course, which I named Brettopia, is the best IOS course EVER!

We have 193 players for the IOS A tier. We have 104 CTPs!!! We've got all kinds of good stuff for CTPs including 4 bags, tons of discs, brass cash packs, 4 Entertainment books.  ;) We have thousands of dollars in prizes just in CTPs!!! Lots of fun, good people and great weather.

Great courses, great weather, great people, great fun!

From what I saw, logistics were handled very,  very well.  Amazing job with organization, scoring, lunch, basktes, etc.  Kudos and thank you to all involved.

Brett, that temp layout was sweet!  You are the goto guy in course design.  Any courses in the Chicago area that don't solicit your input are missing the boat!

VERY well run tournament everyone, thanks again.

One of the most fun tournaments I've ever played.  Knowing how much planning and work went in beforehand by the TD's, it was awesome to see it all come together and run so smoothly.  Thank you to Bruce, Jon, Brett, and Mirth for this tournament.  I would love to see another A tier next year, it really was a ton of fun.  From what I could tell, most everybody had a great time.

Also, thanks to Adrian Sr. who really goes out of his way to help with alot of the dirty work that nobody wants to do.

I sucked on the temp course, but I did take a THREE on the 969 ft. hole.   ;D  Definitely a hole I'll remember!

TREMENDOUS job by the entire staff!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Please have this event every year.
All courses played great and BRETTOPIA was a thing of beauty: some short, some long, some pretty tough.

Much thanks also to GRABM and all the work those folks do at Anna Page all year long!!!

One suggestion for next year:  Don't let Clark drive the gator!   ;D

I want to start out by thanking the Rockford Park District. They treated us like professionals. The use of the pavillion, letting Bruce stay over night with the merch,  use of the shed, and use of the gator made things much easier for the staff.

I want to thank the players. If it weren't for you this event would not happen. As long as players continue to show up i'll continue to do what I can to keep the series and the A-Tier alive. I appreciate many of you who went out of your way to thank many of the volunteers. The postive comments overshadowed some of the negativity you get at events. I felt good this morning waking up. I am always open for constructive criticism whether it's private or in public.

I want to thank the staff. An event like this takes many people to pull off. Below are the people that made it happen. I am sorry if I miss someone.

Player Handbook
Scott Pitner & Mike Krupicka. They both worked very hard to get this completed. They looked great.
Dan Michler-Thanks for working hard at work to have them printed  ;D.

Bruce/Jon. Thank you! We went thru some stressful times discussing logistics, etc.. You guys made it a fun weekend. If it werent' for these guys some of the ideas that you see at the IOS would never happen. They aren't afraid to go against the norm you see at other events.

Jon--Scoring-This guy is amazing at the online scoring & processing.
Mike Krupicka-Scoring/Sorting/King of CTP's Awesome job as usual Mike.
Mirth-Scoring-Thrown into the fire at a big event and did a fantastic job.
Maddisen--Scoring--How many freshman girls do you see at events that contribute to scoring & sorting? She is very good at it!
Mirth--Registration/Check-in--Awesome job! Thanks for extending the deadline.

Becky--Registration/Scoring/Others--Never misses an event. Always does a fantastic job.

Bruce/Kiralyn/Diana-Merchandise. Wow-very tough job to set-up, supervise, and take down. Bruce did not leave the park from Friday morning until Sunday night. UNREAL!

Bruce/Diana/Becky/Adrian Sr-Lunch. This is the one area I was not sure could be pulled off. The lunches were pretty close to arrival times. Great work!

Mike Lascola/??-Thank you for getting the pins moved on the east course!
Adrian Sr., Tom M., Dan M., Mike Clark, David Barish, & Tom S.--These guys did an awesome job! Adrian Sr. made the tee signs. Wow! We knocked out the course setup on Friday in 3 hours. Set up and tear down went fast!

Baskets-Discontinuum, Brett C., Mike C., Tom M., Kurt K., Scott P., Juan L., Sergio C., Tom S., Mike K., Dana V., Spike W., & Dave N. Without you guys we would not have been playing the 3rd course. Thank you so much for making arrangements to get the baskets to/from the course.

1000rated.com- Thanks Brian for all the quick updates on the website.

Sponsors
DISContinuum, Applied Machine Control, Peoria Frisbee Club, Innova CFR, Gateway, Discraft, 1000rated.com, Rockford Park District, PDGA, Springfield Disc Golf Club, Deaf Disc Golf Association, WI Dye, Paper or Plastic Sports, Prime Discs, LSDiscs, Fade Gear, & Streamwood Disc Golfers Union.
Thank you for the support.
$1800 added cash. Free Lunch both days. CTP's out the butt! Thank you for making this a great weekend.!!

I hope I got eveyone. I'm sure there are more. I am sorry If I missed you. This event ran so smooth we were out of the park by 8pm and I got to catch the end of the Bears game at home.

Its a shame it all went so well.

With Bruce, Brett, Adrian, Diana, Madison not playing and with Jon still on the DL it was a cakewalk of efficiency.  Four pools, multiple divisions, about 200 players, pizza drivers coming and going and no balls fell to the ground while it was all juggled by the IOS team.  It all seems so easy.  Long ago I read a post by Bruce somewhere either here or PDGA where he said he likes to provide tournaments that he likes to play.  In order to make magic this weekend he didn't get to play.  It just couldn't be done.  Brett had to be salivating to compete against a strong open field with some highly rated players.  He did have a childish look of glee in his  eye evrytime he drove the cart to pick up baskets.  Weee!!  Mirth has small kids and doesn't get a chance to play lots of tournaments.  He took a weekend away from the family to provie computer and accounting support and a thousand other background tasks that the players never see. They didn't play, they just put on a show and what a show it was.  I marveled at how well groups went from one course to the other and how lunch was ready  how Jon smirked as he had scores, AND RATINGS, posted before we finished lunch to go to our next round. It takes a mom to feed 200 kids for  lunch and Diana did it seemingly effortlessly. The A tier was geat and I hope it happens again. However, the reality is that an A tier means people who love to  play cannot play.

This doesn't mention the legion of club volunteers, the usual suspects who play but really don't get a chance to practice because they are doing something to help the cause like Clark, Michler and McManus helping Brett organize 18 loaned baskets or Krupicka working the Score Ports.   Becky and Madison working the registration table. The Rockford crew knew the circus was coming to town and they knew how to go out and GRABM! I was at the course a couple weeks ago when Duain was sort of playing but mostly spray painting arrows to help us find the next tees.  Carl and the rest had the old school baskets on the east course in very, very good repair.  Thanks for all the new links to the chain.

Players helped too.  The dozens and dozens of regular IOS players all contributed in some way bringing in the CTP cards, buying the CFR discs, paying attention at the players meeting, keeping an eye on something while one of the staff ran to the bathroom or whatever.  The great attitude of everybody at the course added to the overall experience.  It was great to see old  and new faces in Rockford.

Just in case you didn't hear it over the weekend, here it is- Thanks guys!

...to Mother Nature for giving us a great two days to play such an event;
...to Carla for getting up early and coming with me to course even though she didn't tee-off for another 4 hours;
...to all the guys I had a chance to play with.

Staggered starts: Great
Lunch included both days: Great
Online updates: Super Fast
Winning a playoff to take home a sweet trophy: Awesome (sorry Mike  ;))

Thanks, again.

Thanks to Brett, Bruce, Diana, Jon, Becky, Kira, Maddisen, Mike, Dan, Tom, Adrian, Chris, David, and anybody else whom I forgot and has ever helped out to make our events the successes they are.
Without the players and TDs willing to direct them none of these events would be possible.

Thanks to Mother Nature for keeping the rain away from Rockford until today! =)

I hope some day I'll get a chance to play Brettopia. If its half as good as all the comments I heard about it I'll be nothing less than astounded.

Thanks to Dan for putting up with me as his partner for doubles on Friday night and putting up the -9 to take first!

Illinois Open Videos (http://www.discgolfersr.us/video/video/listForContributor?screenName=3d6vklrqrrkgg)

Both are from hole #12 on the new course. Putts by Nikko and Avery. If anyone was walking with them they'll be able to tell you how far the putts were but I was near #13's basket so I'm not sure. You can almost count the steps and get an idea.

Discontinuum Presents the Illinois Open in Rockford by the numbers:
(I'm just finishing the TD report now)

Total pro purse:$4698
Percent payout to pros (as a percentage of their entry fee): 167%
Pro event value (as a percentage of entry fee--includes trophies, CTPs and lunch): 194%
Am event value (as a percentage of entry fee--includes trophies, CTPs and lunch): 174%

Total entry fees collected from all players: $8802
Total Event Value: $15852

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. Feel free to also tell us what we could do better. Next time there will be more stuff in the schedule. Now that we've done it once I think we can lock in the the pools ahead of time. We can publish lunch times. We'll publish the staggered awards ceremonies.

The staggered start times is probably the best idea that Bruce has had since he thought to string the G.I. Joe zip line to the neighbors house across the street.

Brett's temp course was fantastic. He and I took a tour of that area back in June and he said "We can put a hole here, and here, and WAIT one here by the creek and then the next tee over here..." My best contribution to that process was after the course was designed I named it "Brettopia".  ;D

We got home safely.  I drove all night except a two-hour nap at the Hillsdale Walgreens parking lot at 5 a.m.  On the way home we stopped by Hillsdale and surprised Kelsey with a care package from the Schwinns.  Closer to home we stopped by the trophy man to order the two trophies that somehow fell off the list.  I think that was one of my screw ups.

Dittos as to all the thoughtful thanking that has been going on, especially to the Rockford Park District.  They provided us with an incredible amount of support and charged less than any of the other park districts that charge a course use fee.

This was really stressful to put together.  But having done it once, we could do it again if the 100 sponsors who bought CFR discs want to do it again.  It was really the players who bought CFR who made this happen.  This is my suggestion for next year to boost CFR sales:  let's keep a list of every player who bought a CFR disc and then have a cash sidebet funded with a small portion of the CFR proceeds to be paid to the CFR purchaser who shoots the most over his rating.  I'm thinking like $100 or so.

I need to go to bed.  See you here tomorrow.

I fixed an incorrect PDGA number which always changes ratings a little bit and I added money and prizes won. The prizes won does not reflect the $1500 in CTPs or almost $4000 in player packs that were awarded/given.

http://www.pdga.com/tournament/tournament_results.php?TournID=7349&year=2008&includeRatings=1#Open

TD report has been submitted to the PDGA for those that care. This also means that they may pull the results down for finalizing at any time so if you want your unofficial results/ratings, you should copy and paste them some where or print them out.

That was Spencer that caught that mistake. The PDGA pretty much finds all the mistakes in PDGA numbers before the report goes official. Even after it goes official they'll still fix stuff if we find it.

It seems one person was overpaid $4 and the other underpaid $4

Also since we all needed to be PDGA memebers the people whose names are in black are they signed up just awaiting numbers?

Those with missing numbers are new members. It looks like Jon needs to update his payouts to reflect ties. In the case above, they all received $84.

It looks like I uploaded the version that I was only half way through fixing payouts for ties. Hopefully I sent the finished one to the PDGA. Thanks for pointing that out. I usually miss at least one and it is usually a half-in or TO person and then the Karolyn doesn't know what to do with it. Whatever I did, I'll fix it tonight. And no matter how many mistakes we find, Karolyn will find one more.  >:(

I might not have had a chance to tell everyone who had a part in running this, so here it is....

This was, in my view, an extrememly well run event.  I went to the Atlanta Open A tier, and it wasn't nearly as organized as this.  I Went to the St. Louis Open....again, not as organized.  Neither place were merched nearly as well.  Everyone I delt with was extremely friendly, and if they didn't know the answer to something, would get hooked up with someone who did.  Oh, I'm getting spoiled by getting the results posted on the same day!  I had to wait weeks for Atlanta.  Kudos to everyone, seriously....everyone!  I can tell that A lot of hard work went into this, from the Lemonade makers to the Temp course planner/Installers, to those that secured donations.

Thanks again,

DaveOwens

P.S.  Um.....Does the Brass expire this year? ;)  I keep hearing rumors.....

Since Dave has now bumped up to Rec, I think his Brass Train is slowing down for now.

I really enjoyed myself this past weekend. I probably should have taken more time to watch the pros. I think they play different game than I do. Everything ran really smoothly.  The names have been already been shouted out above, but thanks again to those that took a risk trying to put this on and to  those that helped it run smoothly. I want to see it happen again next year.

Dave, I'll pass the thanks on to the lemonade makers at my house. Shameless thread drift, there will  be some frozen lemonades at the Invitational Friday. Just one more reason to be out at Bevier this Friday.

Becky you must not have met Dave O. personally, or else you would know that everything Dave says usually winds up with him deserving to be slapped lol.  He knows FULL well that the brass is expiring at the end of the year. :)  And Dave - I think Diana was about to give you the look of death the way you were yelling out about hey what's up with the brass expiring when you were shopping for discs on Sunday lol.  I'll still whack him upside the head for you Diana, just let me know :)

Dave throw some bad rounds so that you can drop down to novice so that I can try to beat you again.  I'll do it one of these days!

DaveO is doing us a favor.  I have plenty of inventory to cover all the outstanding brass, and I'd like everyone to know.

Great article. And 1000rated.com is a great site. Thanks for the sponsorship Brian.

And thanks to Brett for being such a great promoter of disc golf.  Two separate TV stations showing disc golf footage of a local event. I don't imagine that happens very often. It was a great weekend but long. Brett and Adrian worked extremely hard the week before the tourney to get everything ready for the temp course.  Bruce, Jon, and families worked extremely hard to keep everything running smooth at tourney central.  Jon did a great job of getting scores posted, Pickax and Mirth also did a great job at tourney central with scores and answering questions.

The pools worked out better than any of us could have imagined.  Free lunch and great weather, along with some fantastic golf made for a great weekend.

It was nice to see some of the touring players come to the event, almost all of them seemed to enjoy the courses.  It was great to see Chris Sprague hit about a 100 footer to take a four on hole number 6 on the temp course.  All in all it was a great weekend.  And finally, congrats to Dana for capturing the USDGC spot, he is a going to be a fine representative for Illinois disc golfers.

To echo all the thanks that have been posted on here...

Thank you to everyone who took part in making this event happen.  It was fantastic and I cannot wait for future events where future Brettopias may be realized.  Hopefully I can contribute more than one basket by then.  I don't think my girlfriend will let me buy any more until she gets a ring though...so...we'll see.

On a more serious note, one of the best results of the tournament was allowing players from Illinois to watch some amazing disc golf players (like Jay and Nikko and Avery) for the first time.  Those of us who stayed at Motel 6 (just about the cheapest in town, if a drive) were lucky enough to spend some time with Avery in particular.  Josh Younkin (Home Course: Steamwood) had brought his practice basket so a few of us locals were outside at about 10 pm on Saturday night playing HORSE, throwing discs between our legs and challenging each other to make turbo putts from the third floor balcony.  While we were screwing around Avery Jenkins came out on the second story balcony with a few of his friends and drank their beers and admired our putting   ;D .  Then they came down and Avery challenged us to a game of HORSE.  What a cool and down-to-earth dude.  He putted with us and gave us putting tips (looks like I'll be changing my style after he disparaged it graciously).  With his help we finally made a turbo putt from the third story (must be one of those skills you need as a professional).  He signed a couple of our discs and we cheered him on for the remainder of the tournament.

For me some of the best memories of the weekend will be me friend Brian asking Avery, after being introduced to "Avery", what his last name was.  In response to the reply of "Jenkins", Brian could only muster a stunned "Oh...really."  Watching Avery take the CTP on Saturday from Jay Reading on hole 10 of the West Course with a 600 ft sky roller...just fantastic.  Getting putting tips from one of the best in the game...very memorable.  I just hope after playing the game from 23 years like he has I will be half as laid back and still take the time to coach players who putt with their index finger on the rim of the putter (no longer though  8) ).  So, thank you everyone for that opportunity.  Oh...also being maybe the only player in the tournament with a caddy for four rounds was nice.  Keep those PDGA membership fees high and maybe I can convince Roman to caddy for me next year as well  ::) .  (Thanks a lot bud.  I wouldn't have played nearly so well without you.)  It was a great weekend and I'm glad so many other people thought so as well.

Just started a flickr account so I uploaded some of my pics from the Illinois Open to it:

Didn't get too many pics of various players as I really only took picks during the final round of the Pool B. If you see any you like and want a full resolution version let me know and I'll email it to you.

Thanks...the mantis fell out of a tree as I was walking by. I stopped Chris Jordan and Dan P. to come and check it out. I had it on my chair as I walked, then when I set the chair down it jumped off. I was hoping to keep it for a little while. Too bad I was "out" and had to throw or I could have gotten a few more pics.

Once again you guys had to go and provide an awesome tourney for me to be a part of. You guys might have to run a crappy event so that we don't get spoiled and take these great events for granted. Job well done by all involved. My summers would not be the same without the IOS.
Thanks.

On page 59 of Disc Golfer Magazine The Illinois Open was listed 10th in best attended events.

(They only count total number if the event is sanctioned the same. For example Kansas City was an NT last year and a Amateur A-Tier. There was roughly 230 players which is not listed. I would suspect the Illinois Open would still crack the top 25.)
