Don't you mean that you're ready to be schooled by the MASTERS next year? ;)
Hmmm.
I have a couple of special merch items for IOS 6. I was thinking of Spike when I bought them but anyone can shout out if they want them.
Item # 1: A set of 8 Horizon Rocks 11 oz. whiskey tumblers in the original packaging. These are simple, elegant tumblers manufactured by Anchor Hocking. I think they are from the 1960s but I could not find anything on-line about them. I'm asking Anchor Hocking for pedigree information. 4 Brass unless I find out they are valuable antiques before you do.
Item #2: A shot glass chess set. This comes complete with a glass chess table and 32 shot glasses with two full sets of black and white chess pieces painted on the glasses. This too is in the original packaging. This is not a toy suitable for children, according to the packaging. I did not see rules for the drinking game version of chess, but the basic rules would seem rather obvious. 6 Brass.

Dibs on the shot glass set. I can't believe that you have a brother that has an extensive shot glass collection and you didn't offer it to "him" first. Oh well, at least I got first dibs!!!
I didn't think you needed more stuff. I did think of you when I bought them, but I didn't think you'd really want them. Jon's got the shot glasses.
The whiskey tumblers would make nice glasses for orange juice or chocolate milk or whatever. They are multi-purpose drinking vessels.
Oh, I saw the ultimate Halloween decoration but it was too expensive for the joke. A genuine headstone for the kind of cemetary where they do the flat, ground level, grave markers that says Edgar A. Poe on it and has the years of his birth and death. 120 Brass if you gotta have it!

The Spike I know would never have any use for these tools of debochary. Jason

Duain - to answer your question: yes.
Half of the course is wide open with few obstacles unless I'm bringing the yellow rope. The other half is short and tight in the woods with very narrow routes that are worth practicing. You could show up early and get a look at the woods holes.
Because this tournament often falls on the same weekend as the Yellow Rope National Championship in South Carolina, we often dress up a few wide open holes with large swaths of artificial ob.

You gotta bring the yellow rope. We need to setup that hole last year near TC where I could hold up the green or red disc for OB. That was such delightful fun!

Could you change it to blue and yellow discs, or black and white? Anything but green and red, I have a tough time telling the difference.
Thanks.
Or you could hold the green high for good and the red low for bad. The green and red were mysterious for me too. I think Tom is almost as color blind as I am.
I can do whatever colors Bruce has. Black and white might be the easiest for everyone to see.
green with no markings and red with a huge black X in it :) works for all unless you need a new glasses prescription
White is good. Black is bad. That should be intuitive to everyone but maybe Elliot.
Use neon green and put a big smiley face on it. Remind me to bring the electrical tape.
Do it like a radio ashow. Play applause for "in" and a laughtrack for "out".

jrs playing in jr divisions aren't required to be PDGA members but it is a little cheaper than registering an adult.
Yes we know. He wanted to join so he has a player number too. ;D
This way ten years from now he will have what is considered a low number.
BRB
kev c and I will not be making the trek up north this year
family obligations on both sides of the coin

Gonna take you a bit to warm up in that ;D
"Dr. Marie Schwinn" is soooo last tourney. My new nickname is Marie "Mumu" Schwinn. And, all you novice players better watch out! I haven't cashed since '07 Worlds, and I'm gonna be attacking Fairfield with a vengeance (cue theme song from Rocky).
Oh and Dave, you've helped at so many events, Bruce should make you an honorary Brakel woman.

I think its against my religion to make men honorary women! :o
I'm pretty sure Kira is playing Am 4. She needs her points. Diana might be, if she's playing at all. She's been having some tendonitis.
The Waterford Brakels are making a rare joint public appearance at the Homie. We'll be bagging in various divisions, signing autographs and giving free legal advice. Don't miss it.
Have fun at the Homie! I hope to be out of my sick bed and back to work by then.
Mumu-I have to work the tourney on Saturdays so I'll be playing on Sunday.
I have a question about the course. Is the teepad for 14a the same as 14 or is there a tee that I could not find? Couldn't find the info anywhere. Thanks!
14a teepad is about 80 feet deep and left of 14's basket.
If you look on the course info thread, the google map can give you an idea of where 14a is.
Get better soon tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look forward to seeing you guys next weekend.
Lil Bro
I'm finallly recovered, Lil Bro :) Thanks for the well wishing :) See you soon!!
another fun weekend coming up.
i played the river cities rumble on the 12th(took 1st in rec), it was a nice tournament with amazing courses, west lake park is the sh**. i shot a 62 there.
but i have to say the brakels and everyone else involved with the IOS tournys do a 100% smoother and more outstanding job running tournaments. the folks in davenport did a great job, but the IOS crew spoils us and i greatly appreciate it. THANKS IOS CREW. see ya sunday
Jon, Brett
Can you switch me from Saturday's intermediate to Sunday's advanced? I won't be able to make it Saturday.
Thanks,
Doug
Can you post a link to the pre-registration. I would like to see what the competition is. The PDGA site is Fu*ked right now. Thanks.
Yeah, Brett, we won't be able to use the PDGA pre-reg to communicate to let me know what trophies to make, so could post a copy of the spreadsheet here or on the pre-reg thread?
I should be there AND I'll be on time this year cause I sure as hell won't be taking directions from Todd Fanning.

Hey Mirth
When does online pre reg close?
From the prereg page:
PREREGISTRATION ENDS 10/16 AT 9:00PM!!!
Are the rubber teepads going to be out for this one?
I'd just like to know in advance if I need to bring my baseball spikes out for sunday. ;D
That info is on the course info thread (http://discontinuum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=3844.msg59522#msg59522). Currently Brett's post says:
"I plan on using the 6 rubber tee pads on holes 1, 6, 10, 11, 12, & 18."
Thanks! :D
I just rinsed off four dyed Green Bay Packer logo discs.
How many people are pre-registered for Saturday?
It's not full yet. :-)

thanks brett for the list.
i noticed some of the new pdga site is up but very slow
From what I see on the home page it is a redesign. Seems alot better organized, but slow as you mentioned. We'll see how this works out. I am redesigning my company's website, so I know the hassle. WEB 2.0
Let's keep that AM3 list under 47 :)
Just so I can get a sense of benchmarks and goals, because the PDGA site is still down (at least for me), Does anyone know what the winning scores were in each division last year? or better yet, maybe the top 5 scores per division...(I'm really more interested in MA1 through MA4 more than anything). I know to finish in the Brass for MA2 will be very difficult (especially since I signed up for trophy only :-\ ), but I want to see how realistic the goal I have in my head is.
DaveO
PDGA #33544
The division breaks were different last year, but 63 was about a 900 rated round, 53 was around 1000.
well i know diabetic dave has a hard time seeing green and red cause he is red green color blind

Noticed I'm on top of the MA3 pile.......at least for the pre regs.
And I'm going to keep it that way on sunday! *chuckle*

You've always had it correct in the past, and I'm not sure why it's wrong (I blame computers), >:D but oh well....See ya tomorrow (I"m leaving at about 5:00 AM....)
Dave Owens
pdga# 33544
It is now corrected, Dave O.
I missed the prereg deadline, any chance I can register over the phone tonight or tomorrow? I'm not going to be able to make it up until Sunday morning, and I remember how the IOS waitlists work....

See you in the morning.
Damn, really wish I could make it Sunday......

Thank you Jon.
You the man Jon
If you were really good you'd post the results in advance. >:D
Seriously, thanks for going above and beyond.
Here are the results cut and pasted and the TD report attached. Feel free to look at the TD report if that's easier. Only the scores tab has been updated for this tournament. You have to be logged in to download the report. Mike Krupika is going to run ratings off the report. Thanks Mike!
If someone knows of an easy way to go from excel to message board table please let me know.

So, we can call those EUR? ;D However, they are within 10 points of what Brett thought they would be so I think they are probably pretty close.
Mike,
I like what your cooking, but I think they may a lilttle too spicey. I hope that I am wrong, but they may a little too hot.
The elves tell me that they are pretty sure they followed the recipe, but admit this is the first time they tried it. They did look at last year's batch and the results were pretty close. Tasting it, I give them a +/- 3.
Thanks for another great event! Nice shooting Todd and Brad.
I think those ratings are 10-20 points higher than they should be. Like Tom, I'm hoping that I am wrong.

thanks for all the great tournaments and wonderful memories this year. hope 2009 is just as fun. THANKS IOS CREW.
I want to thank the IOS team for once again running such great events. I truly enjoyed playing these events over the past 5 years and hope to continue to play them in the future. Outstanding job! See you next year.
Sunday ratings. The elves know it's an old recipe and therefore might have some special juice in it, but it's the best they have for now. When I was playing today, I know I mentioned to a couple of people that I thought the wind made the course a couple of strokes harder. Looks like the elves are saying three strokes tougher.

Those DNF's are throwing that one off it looks like.
The elves assure me that the DNFs are not used for the SSA. There was one really bad gator that when removed, lowered everyone's rating for Sunday by 4 points. The elves tell me that it is hard to keep quality up when they can't tell between the gators and the young crocs.
Thank you IOS crew!!!!
As always you did a fantacstic job getting things running on time and smoothly. Even with the overall trophy presentations and the 400 hole ADV playoff, we were still done by 6 PM. What a model of efficiency you provide ofr all other TD's.
This year was once again great. I am sad to see it done. :'( I cannot wait to next year and once again showcase my mediocraty at IOS events ;D

Thanks for the support and kind words. I look forward to visiting the Fox Valley next year and playing an event rather than running/playing. You guys have any information for next year. Rumor has it 2 day Am/Pro B-Tier with Aurora/Oswego courses in play?

Thanks for another great event! Nice shooting Todd and Brad.
I think those ratings are 10-20 points higher than they should be. Like Tom, I'm hoping that I am wrong.
In the wind, I thought I shot 880 - 960, so I'm with those who think the old recipe might be juiced. I'd be fine with 880-960. That extra rating point doesn't really do anything for me.
On the other hand, advanced hot rounds usually are near 1000 at an IOS, so the ratings look right in that regard. Sometimes we underestimate the effect of the wind.

I know the template drops out the too-low scores. The elves could try substituting 999s for 0s and see if they get the same results.
Thank you to the IOS team for running great tournaments.
Thank you to all the players for making the tournaments great.
Hope to see everyone next year and bring a friend.
Here is a shot of Michler teeing off on 6. Low resolution off of the phone but nice form by Dan.
Regardless of how I play I always have a great time playing IOS events and #6 was no different. I had great company both rounds and enjoyed beautiful autumnal vistas on a delightful day. Pretty soon only Spike will be wearing shorts on the course. I got to wear shorts on Saturday. The system gets more and more efficient. You make it look too easy. All the busy work of running an event is done seamlessly so the players get to play, shop for plastic and socialize. I know that this is a large time and money commitment for you and it is a labor of love. There is no other rational reason for putting up with the hassle or running evemts such as the IOS events. I am glad you will be back, in whatever form, next year.
I found out yesterday how long is too long to run my laptop off my car battery without my car being started...thanks for the jump Bruce!!! ;D
Thanks to all that attended the events this year! It seems like it has been a really long year and I know that Brett and I are both looking forward to doing other things for a few months. I hope that people will see with a 4 tournament schedule that we will have a little more time to devote to each tournament and hopefully to continue to improve our tournaments. I think with a 6 event schedule everything seemed like a compromise on time and I couldn't do everything that I wanted to do for each event.

That is the plan as of right now.

you'll see that the work we have done as a club at Eagle Ridge is starting to pay off. It may have taken 2 years, but the seeds are starting to germinate.
Only time will tell.
looks like my gamble paid off, not enough players in AM3 to overtake my point lead :) sweet.
I stayed in Indy this weekend & played AM1 in our Best of the City tournament & after the first round I had a one stroke lead on my division and was only 2 out of the overall lead (bad first round for the open I think, as opposed to a really hot round by me... mine could have been better. I figured Open leader would be around 13 down... not simply 7, it was kind of windy... Chicago golf has helped my wind game!) I ended up losing my lead & taking 2nd in AM1, I think I was 6 overall out of I think 47 players with 15 in Open.
For Saturday's ratings I'm predicting both rounds come down 5-10 points from what Krupicka posted for his unofficials earlier. Predicting round ratings accurately after the round is on my short list of skills.

I agree with Dan, which happens about as often as I agree with Bruce. 8)
I generally never shoot that well at Fairfield, and certainly after yesterday I can say I've never shot that well there before. But ratings-wise, I didn't shoot THAT well. :confused2:
