Title: Aces
Post by: D1sasterouz on April 22, 2008, 06:18:54 PM
I wanna know how many aces everyone has had and where. Personally I have one from playing a few years and it was #9 at Shorewood. I threw a white kc pro eagle sidearm and it was just as straight as an arrow.  I have what I call a "backyard ace" which was me and a few friend's throwing at a instep basket I bought in a wide open field at about a par3 distance with an old red dx eagle.

I have had two aces.  One was with a Star Destroyer on Hole 6 at Madison Meadows in Lombard, IL.  I just tossed a big sidearm hyzer and splashed in the basket.  The other one was on Hole 10 at Knob Hill in Cranberry, PA.  It was about a 300 ft. hole on the side of a hill.  I tossed a sidearm with a Star Max and skipped it right into the hole.  Hopefully we'll have a few more after a nice hot summer of disc golf.

Here is my list since I started keeping track. By far my best ace was at Highbridge last year. Skip ace for some cash! Another memorable ace was at El Paso. This course gets little to no play. A couple was sitting on the bench asking me some questions. I said hole in ones are fairly common in disc golf. My tee shot goes in.

Man, I haven't kept as close track to dates as you have! Nor do I have as many.

All my aces have been at Willow Stream because I just don't get out much. It's always been the course I drive past on the way home from work, so it's the course I play on.

1. Hole #4 with a QJLS
2. Hole #6 with an Aviar
3. Hole #6 with an Aviar
4. Hole #4 with a SJLS
5. Hole #7 with a KC Pro Roc

I guess it's worth a mention that both of the aces on hole 6 happened on the same day with different Aviars.

Sweet! My parents live 7 miles from El Paso & it's the closest course. If I have limited time to play I head over there. My dad is the course pro  :D.

I specifically remember Brett acing hole 2 at Willow Stream in 2006 with a green CE Eagle, so he should add that to his list.

My most memorable ace would be from the Aurora tourney in 2006 for 330 bucks.  That was good times!  Also my 1st ace ever was very memorable as I had been playing disc golf for several years.  It came on Hole 2 at Sinnissippi when it used to be a blind anhyzer shot.  I didn't hear it go in and was shocked when I saw it laying in the bucket.

Also had a Halloween glow ace on hole 7 at Fairfield which was fun times.  Almost had aces on consecutive throws at Glencoe, the 1st one went in and the 2nd one hit center chains and came back out.

I think it was 2 years ago at the Michiana tournament that 1 advanced player had 4 aces in the same tournament.  Thats a record that my never be broken!!!!!

After researching this in PDGA radio archives, it turns out it was Dave Kociuba from Joliet who got those 4 aces.  Unreal.

Also. Below is a link to PDGA Radio. It's about 1:35 in.  Dave K hit 4 aces at the Michiana Open in 2005. 2 on Saturday back to back. 2 on Sunday.

That was memorable for me too. I was recording your group. After temp hole 13b, I left you, to go shoot one of the Esquivels on 13a.

I heard chains and cheers coming from 13c. And someone said the guy in the black, hit the ace. That sucked.

I haven't caught an ace on video since.

5-16-03: Parkside #13 (short tee, short pin) - DX Roc (I retired the disc.)
11-28-04: Bevier #8 - 10x KC Teebird (won't retire that one.)

That's it. Not that many deuces either...

Later in the round at Bevier Sean Butler aced #6 in my group. I gave him his dollar back.  8)

I had two in one day about two years ago. Hole #6 at Buffalo Grove (willow stream) on my lunch break.
Then after work in Crystal Lake on hole #17. Both with the same disc a yellow roc with a purple stamp, his name was Kobe.

I have never kept track of my aces but here are the memorable ones (or at least ones that I remember right now).

Hole #2 at Adler (18 hole course) at the New World Open. October 12th, 1997. I won $22 on the ace. There were three divisions offered: Pro, Am and Women. I won in Am, Becky won in Women. Dave "Brownie" Brown was in my group for the ace. Probably the only documented win I've ever had against him. Last tournament on the 18 hole course.

Hole #4 at Squirrel Road. It's a 9 hole course. I shot it -10 for the nine holes. A record that stayed untied and unbroken for years. 8 birdies and an ace. The course is short but it is still hard to play that consistent AND get an ace in one round.

Hole #7 at Willow Stream in Buffalo Grove. You always remember your first time...

Hole #17 at Streamwood. League night. $250 worth of ace. 'nuf said.

You should also check out "The Aceman Cometh" thread.

My most memorable was a $165 off-the-tree ace on #17 at the Fairfield Dubs Tournament that Mike Clark ran with a Star Firebird. Unreal.

I've also Aced #19 (old) at West Park with a CE Valkyrie, #23 (old) at West with a DX, #2 (new) at West with a DX Roc, #17 (old) at New Lenox with a SE Rhyno.

*I have never reallly kept track of all my aces but i do have some memorable ones.*

Summer of 99'- First off I got my first ace the 3rd time i went out to play. The only disc i owned at the time was a beat ass cyclone i found the first time I went out to play at Adler. At the time I only threw side arm and i was out with about 5 or 6 of my buddies and we got to hole 16 at fairfield. This is back when hole 16 was brutal and the only way to get to the hole was the anhyzer route. Long story short I step up and throw side arm and it goes in. To my amazement it stuck  :o(this is back when i though aces where impossible) so I get all excited and start running down the hill to retrieve my ace and on the way down I catch a stump and end up doing a head first baseball slide all the way down the hill. Needless to say i had some pretty good scrapes and bruises after that one. :'(

Summer of 01'- Got 2 aces in 1 round of doubles out at round lake. This is back when we were lucky to get 8-10 people for doubles. I aced hole 8, then later in the round I ace hole 15 to win a whole $12.00 FOR 2 ACES. >:(

Through the 8-9 years of playing i would say i have between 15-20 aces. Most of them at round lake. The only holes I have not aced out there are 6 (which i got to stay on top of the basket some how once but dont count) 9,10 (had a bounce out once),12,13,14 and 18. I hope to one day get 18. :D

June 2005 - Davenport-Eastern Ave #5 - 360 ft Champ Orc:  No witness = doesn't count
August 2005 - Streamwood-Shady Oaks Ave #7 - 280 ft Champ Sidewinder:  No witness = doesn't count
7/7/07 - Rockford-Anna Page Old #5 - 3?? ft Champ Roadrunner:  $75 split ace pool for IOS #4
3/30/08 - Bowling Green-White #9 - 250 ft Champ Gator:  Skip Ace, not in the pool (wouldn't have waited the 4 hours to collect anyway!) :P

I saw/heard Mukey's ace at the Fairfield Fall Dubs, greasy, off a tree half-way down the fairway.

The only other ace I witnessed was Rudy Esquivel's frozen rope with a Cro at Jericho short #6.

I have about 25 or so lifetime aces. I dont really keep stats, I just try to enjoy the moment.
I have a few at Adler, a couple at Round Lake. Others are few and far between. 3 are tourny aces 1 at Parkside, 1 at Janesville, and 1 at Olympia Fields. And a few at doubles for $.

I was with some friend's and a friend's dad (he got me started into disc golf) on Friday playing at Shorewood. I aced #9 last year and when we got to that whole I told my friend he was due for an ace. Two holes later on what I consider one of the hardest aceable holes at Shorewood #11 my friend steps up and throws and my friends dad goes "Listen" and then bang. We hear chains. My friend goes to check it out and he had aced the whole. We were all so excited but my friend was the happiest. He finally got his ace and his dad was there to see it.

Over the weekend some friends were playing a course in Michigan. We were playing Cass Benton in Northville. For anyone that has played that course knows how many trees there are and how fun the course is. I never thought I would see the day, but my buddy walks up to tee #10 and throws a back hand through a five foot gap between two trees down the 201ft tunnel shoot says watch this. Then bang, his first ace. Nice job Mike!!!

5 total in my three years of playing

#4 at Campton in St. Charles twice
#9 at Campton (one of my first times playing
#12 at Jericho...throw it up and hope ;)
#1 At Sandy Point Disc Golf Resort in WI. Little story about this one. My brothers and I went upto Highbridge to watch the worlds, and on the way back to our Cabin we stopped in to Sandy Point for a round. Sitting on the porch behind the first tee was the gentleman (his name was Jim) who had just won the Masters Division and was celebrating with a few beers. So we step up, threw my Sidewinder and the rest was history :)

got 3:

1. old #11 at Streamwood (blind shot through woods), DX Shark.  my friend heard it go in, but I didn't.  i ran up the path to find it sitting in the basket.

2. #1 @ Kereiakes, Bowling Green, KY (short tee), Champion Rhyno

3. #1 @ Kereakes, Bowling Green, KY (short tee), Star Wraith thumber

I really only have the one TRUE ace though, the two in KY were just from throwing everything in my bag.  The Rhyno shot was my 4th disc thrown, and the Wraith was the last disc in my bag (aces were in consecutive years)

What do you guys usually write on the disc after you throw an ace?

I just bust out a power load all over the disc.  I then take home my Ace Load and save it in a test tube labeled with the time/date/hole/course/disc info.

But thats just me.  Some people write on the tee sign which is just uncalled for, in my opinion.

I aced #7 yesterday at Shorewood. Sure was nice getting an ace during my first round of the year. Was a nice one hop skip ace right into the center of the chains.

I aced #7 again at Shorewood on the 18 with the same disc I aced it last time with. Two aces on the same hole in less than a week with the same disc. ;D

I skip aced Blue #9 at Willow Stream in Buffalo Grove not once, but twice in a row yesterday. We were playing Cali leagues because only 5 guys showed up. So I skip aced blue 9 on my first attempt, and decided to throw another for the fun...I skip aced it again, the exact same shot, I'm still in shock. That brings my total to 12 aces in the last 2 years.

heh, now that's a type of shot that I'd enjoy trying to decide which one I'd rather take!  Congrats on the back to back aces!

i'm up to 23 basket aces and 5 others

coolest ace: fountain hills teeing off beginning of third round. dude on my card had only ace of tourney so far and was praying (outloud) to keep the $400 bounty to himself. horn sounds, i step up and nail an ace crossing over water. cool thing is climo, rico, and ginnelly were on the lead card next to the basket i slammed, it made kenny step off the box and rethink his throw.

best "other" aces were back-to-back at the ritz carlton course on maui where we played to the yellow fire hydrants around the manicured property that we created along the beach.  I hit holes 1 and 2, then birdied the next 4 in a row, to be -8 after 6 holes.
