After the resolution to a particular heated discussion on this board not too long ago, I came to realize a few things about our group as a whole:
1) We all like or love disc golf.
2) In that we all are members of a larger group, we have realized the value of giving back to the sport that we love.
3) We all want to see our sport and club be successful.
The ways that we differ are how we define the above and how we view the paths toward those goals.
When my views differ about something that I feel passionate about, it is too easy to resort to hateful words. I say things that I regret and I burn bridges rather than build them. The last time this happened, the bridge was repaired in a matter of minutes, and I started to realize that we are not oceans apart in our views, but just degrees apart in our perspective.
Since then I have tried to post only constructively and just ignore the inflammatory. As it turns out, its not all that hard to do. It feels good. It feels right. This doesn't mean that I will or have stopped posting my opinions, and as much as ever those opinions maybe misinformed. Please enlighten me of your view, because if you have a different view, and don't share it, I will have learned nothing.
This doesn't mean that I will suddenly agree with all opinions that differ from my own, but I am open to the possibility. It also doesn't mean that conflict will dissapear, but perhaps the way in which we handle it can. If we post and reply to posts with the attitude of sharing ideas rather than trying to "win" an argument, then, we might be able to give even more to the sport and club than before without working any harder.
These are, of course, just my opinions (or perhaps the opinions of the makers of Darvon). Your opinion may vary.
Dude, you are SOOOOOOO high! Wanna slide a brutha a couple of those Darvons? ;)
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Seriously, I think you hit the nail on the head & I agree 10,000%
Hey, its alright. I think we all need a break from time to time.
It's too bad that you didn't pause to celebrate that ace, tho... Hard holes are the ones that deserve it the most (not that an ace on an easy hole shouldn't garner some whooping & hollering... :) ).
Just know that we are all friends and accordingly can depend on each other as such.
I too have stepped back and reread all my posts since our difference of opinion last month. I can't say i'm at burnout, just frustrated with school & lack of play. Disc Golf should be enjoyable. I think that's what our club is all about. FUN. I'm just glad that I have a job with June, July, & August off.
I like to push the edge of any topic, there are always other chooses for any decision... This is where I come in, to spot and show that there are other options. I am also on the verge of serious burnout, for this reason I have not been playing any events. I backed out of SRO for this weekend and really don't want to play for a while. I am very passionate about this sport, but the constant littering, and politics of this sport I can live without. Last Friday was the final straw...working at Parkside picking up bag's of garbage and trimming trees that people broke...then getting an ace on a hard hole and not even caring or celebrating it. I'm so burnt out with playing, I need a break. Sorry for the unpleasant posts the last few days, I took it out on you guys and I'm sorry... I will not do that again.
I want some of that Darvon!!!!
I couldnt have said it better myself, thanks Jon. I think we all can agree to what you have said.
I'm just glad that I have a job with June, July, & August off.[/quote]
Man, I wish I could say the same!!!
