Title: Myrtle Beach, SC?
Post by: spike on June 26, 2008, 10:42:48 AM
I am in Myrtle Beach for a couple of weeks.  I will probably play far more ball golf than disc golf (traitorous, I know), but I  should make several disc golf outings with friends and family.  I have my car, so getting around is no problem.

Where to go?  Has anybody played in the area and do you have any recommendations?
Much obliged, ya'll...

There is not much there in the way of interesting DG.  Tupelo Bay is a very easy/boring 9 hole course on an executive BG course.  Check out this link (http://www.charlottedgc.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=875&KW=myrtle&PID=28799#28799) on the Charlotte NC discussion board for a few thoughts from some guys who have recently been there.

If you have time and ability, I highly recommend travelling 75 miles up the road to Castle Hayne Park in Wilmington, NC or 100 miles down the road to Trophy Lakes course in Charleston, SC.  You will thank me for sending you there if you can do it.   ;D

Is Savannah close to Myrtle Beach? I can't remember without looking at a map, but I've heard that those courses are fun.

I was in Myrtle Beach last October and played the Tupelo Bay DG course.  I paid for 18 holes.  Yes , it is pay for play and it is on a ball golf course.  After playing 9-holes (par 3 course), I switched and played ball golf the second round.  Very short course, which can be played with a putter.

Savannah is about 3 hours from Myrtle Beach.  It is indeed a good course.  I doubt you want a 6 hour round trip, but if you are able to travel that far, there are lots of great courses in the area - Columbia, Augusta, Rock Hill (SC), Charlotte, New Bern, Albemarle, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill (NC).
