Title: July 26-27th - Grip It & Rip It @ Roselle's Goose Lake Park
Post by: stpitner on June 27, 2008, 02:07:19 PM
C-Tier - Roselle, IL - Goose Lake Park

I've been working closely with the park district to run the 2nd Annual Grip It & Rip It tournament at Goose Lake Park.  The folks at the park district last year did a PHENOMENAL job of cleaning up the course in preparation for the tournament.  They mowed nice fairways and also mowed a shorter length green area around the basket (they were not measured to 10 meters).  This year the plan is to have at least 2 new permanent holes installed as they work towards raising more funds to eventually expand the course to a full 18.

The tournament will have All Pro and All Advanced divisions play on Saturday, July 26th.  All other divisions will play on Sunday, July 27th.

I will have more information to post this weekend.

SuperColor Buzzz's for this event are available for $20 each to help raise additional funds.

Free lunch for all players!

Player packs to include a free t-shirt and disc for all players!

it's going to be back-to-back-to-back once I get this other one confirmed... but then you have a weekend off before worlds starts on the next day.  It's a busy busy Illinois tournament schedule this year :)

Are the Cubs discs I'm working on for this tournament?  I'm about to start dying them tonight.  They all cleaned off nicely except the one with a black stamp.  They stamped that one hard and hot for some reason.  Maybe the black bonds with the plastic.  The stickers all went on well centered.  There's none that I'm thinking, "Well, no one will notice..."  This should be a good looking batch.

I got the dye on nine of them last night.  They are looking pretty good so far.  The dye was really sludgy so hopefully it will stay put and turn out good.  I'll cook and rinse them tonight, and then pop them in the freezer to keep them fresh until Aurora.   ;D

Right now it's 9 permanent holes, they plan on adding 2 permanent holes across the street before the tournament.  That means that I'm going to have to add 7 temp holes - and we're not going to work out those holes until the guy from the park district comes back from vacation next week.  It will be par 54, the current tees are limestone.  There's a couple long holes just under 500 feet (#4 and #5), but they are pretty much wide open.  Tall grass comes into play on some holes, and I'm hoping to be able to add some temp holes in a nice rough area that is off in between 6 and 7.  We'll see.  I won't have the fine details until next week for course routing, etc.

All tournament information is now posted on the website and we are accepting pre-registrations.  I've had a bunch of emails already, and according to the park district they have also received a few pre-registrations.

So far the park district has received 6 pre-registrations.  I've had about 6 verbal commitments.  I know that more people are planning on coming out to play :)  The deli that is providing lunch for everyone was asking for preliminary numbers on a headcount, and that's tough to do when no one is pre-registering!  Help us make live easier at the tournament, pre-register (http://www.paperorplasticsports.com/tournaments.html#Grip) :)

I haven't received the mail yet today if someone mailed in anything, but I have yet to receive one.  Online registration consists of going to the website, finding your entry fee, logging into your account at paypal.com (if you pre-register for the IOS online you should be able to log in and send money at paypal), click Send Money, and send the payment to scott@paperorplasticsports.com.  You can also PM me or email me and ask to send you an invoice for the particular division.

All major credit cards accepted :)  Please add $2 to the entry fee to cover PayPal costs.

Current long range forecast is clear and low 80's - beautiful!

The baskets will not go out until Saturday morning, although I was just out there today scoping out where they will go.  Once I send the map off to the park district for their comments, I'll post it so that people can see the approximate routes.  It looks like in the other park they have flags marked for where they are going to install the new baskets and such - hopefully they'll only do a couple of them (they told me they would do two).  That entire park is fairly wide open, so the holes that I'm making over there are fairly long in an attempt to add some challenge to otherwise same 'ole same 'ole holes.

If you notice anything wrong with the baskets that are currently out there, please let me know.  I noticed today that someone (once again) has cut and removed the circles holding the chains on 7.  I'll make sure that it is fixed before the tournament.

For those of you trying to pull up the park on Google Maps for directions, I recommend searching for Chatburg Park in Roselle, IL instead (260 Rodenburg Road).  You can park at the school.  Goose Lake Park is pretty big, and the course is on the north side of the park.  Make sure to turn left onto Rodenburg from Bryn Mawr (Rodenburg is at a stop sign).

1 so far - Tom Schodtler - but I haven't received any of the names yet from the park district.  I don't know what divisions they are in.

The park district is working pretty hard to get the course looking in great shape.  For those of you that were out there last year, you'll be happy to hear that they are giving the course a manicure very similar to last year.  They were out there today weed whacking, cleaning up the tee boxes, and Friday they will give another good mow on the grass.  They will be back out there tomorrow doing additional work as well as installing 2 of the permanent holes at Chatburg park (these permanents will be pulled after the tournament until they have funds to continue adding holes).  They have a full 9 holes mapped out for across the street, and hope to purchase another 3 or 4 baskets by the end of the year.

Here is the current projected layout for the tournament:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=117159434561874485978.00045252401d0a0c30f10&t=h&ll=41.977773,-88.108946&spn=0.00524,0.013518&z=17 (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=117159434561874485978.00045252401d0a0c30f10&t=h&ll=41.977773,-88.108946&spn=0.00524,0.013518&z=17)

The ones marked in red are the temp/new holes.  The 2 that they install in Chatburg might change the layout slightly.  Porta-potties will be on site.  The two baskets that have been vandalized (one just happened between Sunday afternoon and today) will be fixed tomorrow.

Right now we have 3 pre-reg'd for Saturday and 8 for Sunday.  I have a number of verbal commitments but can't count those officially.

I appreciate your support!

Scott

Pre-registration closes tomorrow night.  Thank you to those that have already signed up!

The 2 new permanent baskets are going to be installed either today or tomorrow, and it looks like they'll even let me use my own grass tees to all for a much longer hole than what they have mapped out :)

The Custom stamped discs are in, and they turned out quite nicely.  We have the following models:

Pro-D Challenger
CryZtal Avenger SS
CryZtal Buzzz
ESP Force
ESP FLX Buzzz
ESP FLX Challenger
ESP FLX Surge SS
ESP FLX Avenger SS

The FLX Challenger was originally going to be Elite-X Soft Challengers, but they didn't have the quantity in the weights that I desired.

We also have the SuperColor Buzzz's available for $20.  They are great discs!

Scores are posted from todays rounds.  Congrats to Sr on his victory in Intermediate, and thanks to everyone that came out despite competition with Indiana State Championships.

and as guaranteed, scores were posted before Indiana State Championships posts their scores (any guesses when those will go in? :) )
