Title: Tournament Supplies
Post by: FlatBallFlyer on July 01, 2008, 09:08:44 AM
I am back into the sport after an 18 year hiatus, and I'm very excited to be getting involved in helping to direct tournaments. I have found that the ScorePointe score board is currently sold-out EVERYWHERE until October or November. I have at least two local tournaments coming up before then, and I was wondering if any of the TD's out there could recommend the best way to buy/make a score card display system. Any help would be appreciated.

While I'm here, (btw What a Great Site!), would it be helpful to have a Discussion Category for TDs?

Thanks

Yes, that site / phone number is actually run by Ching, and they are also sold out untio October. The problem seems to be that they are manufactured over-seas, and for some reason the manufacturer only ships to the US twice a year. I've tried to find the manufacturer to see if I can order direct from them and pay over-seas shipping, but they seem to be invisible (at least on the internet).

For future conversation I've restarted this topic in the TD Corner.

Thanks

As far as making a scoreboard goes, I think one of the most popular schemes uses shutters.  The louvered slats hold a scoreboard card nicely.  Pick a size that fits your expected field and course size.  You can pick old shutters up quite cheaply at a household recycle or reuse center.  A pair of shutters can be hinged together and easily closed up between rounds for safekeeping.

Here's the easy and cheap way...use a cork board and push pins. . Bruce and I used this "system" for years before getting boards. The leader board card area is always filled with guys checking out the scores. If it is at a table, some of them will sit down. They will natually help hold down cards as you move them and take out the pins. It probably adds about 10 to 15 minutes in the time that it takes to turn the board unless you have some good helpers helping to hold down stuff and put pins back in...but it works!
