Title: Heating and AC question
Post by: airspuds on July 23, 2008, 06:45:40 AM
my ac compressor and coil ( which is inside the furnace)  need to be replaced
guys says i need  2.5 ton compressor and coil

question is  -  do i repace furnace at same time ?  (  90 % efficient model )

both have been in the house since i bought it 18 years

guy quoted around 1500 for just compressor and coil
i still have to get quote for furnace - im thinking all done and told
3000 ?

I came across a new site www.acdoctor.com that has a lot of good educational stuff on there that could possibly help, I'm not a homeowner though so other than that I am no help!

Hi Mike!
I would replace the furnace.
Similar thing happened to me earlier this year.
Newer gas units are more efficient.
We went from a 40-gal to a 60-gal.
The monthly $ increase was next to nothing and we can run the washer and take a long hot shower at the same time now.

I wish we could have gone with the solar-heated glycol unit, but didn't have $10K lying around . . . .
