Title: Zone and Drone
Post by: philvb85 on September 28, 2008, 10:43:43 PM
I have recently started throwing the Drone from Discraft and it has quickly become one of my go to discs.   I know that I have only been able to buy it in the entry level Pro-D plastic, but I have seen around the internet FLX versions of it.  Is that version reserved for fundraising, or does anyone around here carry it?  I've already been forced to purchase 3 due to how quickly the special blend gets beat in.

With the zone, I bought one in Pro-D and then two days later was unable to buy the same disc (I was using Marshall Street).  I know it was a "limited edition" does this mean the disc will only return if it was well received?  I'm hoping one of the resident vendors can clear this up for me.

I talked to Discraft about the FLX Drone today.  They are currently out of stock.  They will make some more but they have not scheduled the next run yet.  It will probably be a limited edition run, generally available to vendors, while supplies last [about a week!].  There is a possibility that it might become a stock item.  I'd be patient and not pay a premium for them on e-bay.  I'll try to jump on a few dozen of them when they do their limited edition run.  Scott might see the opportunity and split an order with me for better pricing.

The Pro D Drone is a stock item.  I'm currently well stocked in Pro D Drones.

They run the Zone for the Memorial, Am Nationals and maybe the Players Cup.  Discraft retails them at those events to cover their expenses in participating in those tournaments.  After those events, some lucky vendors can get what's left over at normal vendor prices.  I have Zones.  ;D  I think they are either 9 or 10 Brass while supplies last.  To get the left over Zones you really have to have your mouth over the spigot when they turn on the pipeline.

Meanwhile, Aaron and the Fox Valley crew, I can get you a Chainstar on a wheelie stand for 400 Brass.  Chainstars retail for $388 plus tax and shipping, so this is below retail.  There's no wholesale pricing on Chainstars so I can only get two or three per year at this price.  Let me know if you still want it.

If anyone is looking for ESP Comets or ESP Venoms, now would be a good time to say something.  I can get them with this order.  The comets always sell out so I might just get some anyway.

I hate Discraft's concept of "limited edition".

It is so much like Innova's concept of CFR, it could make you puke.

Their concept of Limited Edition is just spin on the concepts of limited production capacity, limited inventory storage capacity, and limited product risk capacity.  They cannot produce and store all the discs in their potential line up.  They cannot produce 5000 FLX Drones and run the risk that no one wants them.  And they cannot afford to drive the Winnebago to all those tournaments.

All those concepts converge and Limited Edition emerges!

"controlled release" :)

although you would think with the LE Drones selling out in 2 days for the first run of them that they would have no problems blowing through 5000 quickly!  Maybe they should take pre-orders?

I could make space in the basement for some stacks of discs... :P
