The leaves are just starting to turn but Terry is already looking forward to the time when Thanksgiving dinner starts to turn. That is about 2 days after the holiday when you start asking yourself, "is this still good? Can I eat that?" Terry posted the following on the PDGA website:
just wanted to make a quick announcement here that plans for the Cold Turkey III are in the works. It will be a PDGA C-Tier sanctioned event and it will probably take place at Brown Deer Park with the date likely being Saturday, November 29.
This is just a teaser message to get the word out there but that's currently what's being planned. Look for more details to come soon!
Thanks,
Hey everyone!
I am working on the Cold Turkey III event flyer right now. Hopefully I'll have it posted somewhere in the next day or two. This event will likely be sold out since it is the only event taking place at Brown Deer Park this year. I haven't decided on all of the pin placements just yet but they won't be maxed out because I anticipate a full field and don't plan to finish in the dark.
As always, pre-registration will be your only safe bet. My only challenge now is deciding which divisions to offer. I think I'll set it up like many other events ... offer a handful of divisions but if at least 4 people will play in a 'new' division then I'll create it for them. Trophies might be scarce for those divisions late in the game but we'll do our best. Did I mention to pre-register?
Thanks and look for a flyer on here in the next few days.

I heard as part of your entry fee you need to bring a bag of diapers.
Congrats, Terry!
Hey there everyone. I have the online registration information up on TakeFlightToday as well as an official event flyer ready to rock and roll.
Let me also add that like many other events, I am willing to offer MORE divisions than what are listed as long as 4 or more people show interest in that division. For instance, if I had 4 women that are 50+ and they wanted to have an advanced grandmaster women's division I'd gladly offer it as long as they all request it. You want a junior girls under 13 division? Round up 4 eligible girls and shoot me and e-mail and I'll offer it.
For now here are a couple of links for everyone:
Online registration: http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=114 (http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=114)
Mail in flyer: http://lifetimediscsports.com/events/ColdTurkeyIII_Flyer.pdf (http://lifetimediscsports.com/events/ColdTurkeyIII_Flyer.pdf)
As always, contact me directly with any questions. Or ... post them here so I can reply and everyone can read the answers.
Please notice the registration fee increase at 8pm on Thanksgiving Night! Please do yourself and the event a favor by pre-registering immediately. I sincerely think this event will fill so register one way or another today!!!

"Arok" - is that a challenge you're putting up for you to be the first to pre-register? I'm looking forward to a large Discontinuum contingency for this event!
Ter
Hey Ter,
I cant bet that I'll be the first, but I have this one on my calendar. I'm going to rustle up some other
Discontinuum dudes so we can carpool up there. I'm sure Diabetic will be down, I'll talk to Chado, Jordan and a few other guys too. I have not played there in a few years so im looking forward to it.
Waiting for some slackers to pay me for disc sales then I'm on it. 8)
If you've never played Brown Deer then I highly recommend getting out and playing this event. If you have played Brown Deer, well then you know and you are already planning on playing. If you haven't played one of Terry's events but you like how well we run the IOS and how our events run on time and nothing FUBAR happens, then you'll like that about Terry's events as well. If you have played Terry's events, well then you already know! I wish I could play this one but then there's a reason why I haven't finished a competitive event in over 2 years. Have fun and pre-reg!!
Hey Terry:
(congrats, incidentally...)
Just curious if the baskets are currently set where they'll be for the tournament. I might make it up there this weekend.
Last weekend, many of the baskets were in ultra long positions. It was my first time playing Brown Deer since Worlds...tough course.
any one planning on playing up in the cold turkey tourniment that would like to car pool up there and save gas email me

Just got back from a couple rounds up there today. Weather really wasn't bad at all, not nearly as windy as predicted and no precip.
We only noticed maybe half a dozen pins that were different from Am Worlds. Two of them were extreme; #16 is a couple hundred feet longer- after you negotiate the tunnel there's a mild dogleg left and still a mess of trees to avoid. A 3 would be terrific and most people should be happy with a 4. The other one is (I think) #12 - next to last one before you cross back over the road. Another long tunnel, then a fairly hard right though a fair amount of schule/crap. It's 3able but there's absolutely no room for error.
The other pin differences really didn't make much difference in difficulty. I played par 4 golf the first round ::) but did much better the 2nd - shot a 62 which felt like a 910ish round. Hoping the weather will be similar for the tournament. ;D
Sorry that it's been a while since I last visited this thread.
The baskets that you saw last weekend were not necessarily tournament positions. In fact, I just talked about tournament positions with Mark "The Shark" Peterson tonight. Since he will in fact be doing most of the work with the positions him and I had some compromising back and forth. More importantly, RECREATIONAL players currently make up for 55% of the registration which I find very interesting.
Registration has been updated and can be found here: http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8379
The pins will be on the medium to shorter side of things for this event. We will have anywhere between 60 and 90 competitors with limited daylight. Regardless of where the pins are - this course plays long and tough for most divisions.
In fact, if Mark read the distances to me correctly here is what they will be:
380
262
273
239
266
388
663
240
704
290
292
298
433
246
184
245
225
300
Please do everyone a favor and get pre-registered one way or another. All non-pros are receiving a custom event disc as part of the player's pack!!!
Registration fees go up by $10 as of Thanksgiving night, Thursday - Nov 27th!
This has been a very fun event the last couple of years. Terry does a great job of getting everyone on the course and then getting the scores together and awards wrapped up in a timely fashion.
Brown Deer is a very fun course, it doesn't make much difference regarding pin postiions, this course plays tough.
I am looking forward to a great event.
Check is in the mail.
Talked to Todd today, he should be registering any day now..
Looking forward to it!
I had three or four different people tell me today that the check is in the mail. Perfect!
This just in - added incentive for anyone that signs up online - a free set of hand warmers when you check in!
Here is the link to the online pre-registration: http://www.takeflighttoday.com/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=114
If you want to save the $4.58 (plus the cost of the envelope) then please feel free to just mail in your registration as well. No problem with that what so ever!
Thanks guys!
Ter
PS - The largest division is STILL THE REC DIVISION!

The baskets that you saw last weekend were not necessarily tournament positions.
Right, my observation was that with the exception of those two holes I mentioned I didn't see the course being all that much 'longer' than what we played at Worlds. I see that those 2 will clearly be shorter for next week. (interesting that #18 appears to be a whole lot *longer* though - it was definitely shorter on Sat than I remember...).
I plan on reg before Tgiving night, just keeping a wimpy eye on the long-range weather forecast. ::)
thanks Terry!
Only 6 more days before the registration fees increase!!!
I am also posting to let you know that the baskets are currently IN THE TOURNAMENT positions. Mark the Shark put them there the other day so I wanted to relay the news in case anyone was on the fence about coming up here this weekend to practice.
Also, the custom stamped Champion BOSSES should be arriving any day now as well.
Send in your check (made to Terry Miller | 14781 W Hidden Creek Ct | New Berlin, WI 53151) or get out to TakeFlightToday.com to get yourself registered. Anyone that uses TFT will receive a free hand warmer upon check in.
Ter
You get my check in the mail yet??
Hey there Dana,
I got yours when I checked the mail after returning home from a long weekend last night. I will be getting yours and about 5 others all updated on the website a little later tonight.
So far I'm pretty disappointed with the pre-registration counts but I guess we'll see what happens. Pins are in their positions so anyone that wants to come and practice can do so Thursday or Friday (or before then).
All non-pros will be receiving CUSTOM STAMPED CHAMPION BOSSES as part of their player's package. As I said before, a free handwarmer pack to anyone that registers using Take Flight Today.
Ok - I'll post again in a few hours once I get caught up.
Ter
Officially updated the pre-registration page on the PDGA.
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8379
Once the page catches up it should show 29. Guess what? The largest division is still the Rec division at 9! Pretty cool if you ask me. We also have Katie Stauss playing in the OPEN division and her little sister is currently the only Junior registered.
When do entry fees increase by $10 per person? Glad you ask - THANKSGIVING NIGHT around 7PM!!! If you have problems with my website please call me. I don't check this particular message board daily so please don't rely on this for all questions either.
Thanks everyone!
Looks like it will be nice weather for this time of year. It should be a great time.
Just a few days ago I was stressing about the turn out. Now, I'm stressing on the opposite way wondering if we'll have to turn people away. I have taken about 30 registrations in the past 72 hours. Once the PDGA site catches up with my upload you'll see that we are currently at 60 players.
Apparently it's go time for both the Rec division as well as the Pro division as those are our two largest fields.
I have one other quick update and a lesson to share with everyone - UPS does NOT make regular ground deliveries on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. I have found that out the hard way as nearly 200 custom stamped, Cold Turkey III discs arrived at the UPS location in Addison, IL late Wed night and they will sit there until SUNDAY NIGHT.
What does that mean? Well, a couple of things.
First and foremost - I am paying an absurd shipping charge and had Innova stamp 50 more Champion Bosses which were over-nighted Wednesday night. Apparently UPS will deliver international and overnight packages on Friday but not ground packages. That means, we'll still have the Custom Stamped Champion Boss as part of the player's package as promised.
It also means that come Monday I'll have a TON of custom stamped discs show up at my house. Those will include DX San Marino Rocs, Champion Boss, Champion Panther, and a few other models. I won't say they will be on "clearance" but I'll certainly look to work with anyone, especially if buying a handful of items.
And finally, it means that if someone really wants one of those above listed items, we can probably find a way to work things out so that I could get you the product after it arrives on Monday if you are willing to wait.
So although I'm THANKFUL for all of the golfers that are getting registered as well as THANKFUL for Innova going above and beyond to help me out, I'm less thankful for UPS to not let me pick up that package in Addison, or work with me some other way to make this happen.
Registration fees go up by $10 on Thanksgiving Night. Get signed up before then. If you can't process your card through my site, call me and we could possibly process it over the phone.Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Read his post, UPS would not let him pick up the package. NO ONE could get the package.
Hey there everyone! As per tourney tradition - Brock is here with me at Applebee's helping me enter scores so we can get them posted online. As I've mentioned before, there is a slight lag in stuff getting officially posted but it should be up literally any minute.
Here is the link: http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=8379
Thanks again to all of the volunteers that assisted so this thing could be pulled off.

I still don't know how you manage to run the event, take care of all the things in the morning, don't throw a disc until just before the two minute warning and end up winning. Please share Master Terry :notworthy:
Great weather for a great turnout.
Thanks again to Terry and the LDS crew for putting together another fun event.
Congrats to Terry for winning open and to Serg for winning advanced. Good call by Terry to not add an additional hole. There was just enough daylight to get in two rounds of 18. There were about 10 people turned away.
Fun times! The CTPs that you gave away for each division were great. Even gave away one for the pro division!
Thanks again, Terry.
Hey Terry:
Is there a Cold Turkey IV this year?
