Hmmm.  Maybe I'll show up and defend my title.  That would be interesting- win Open in 07 and play ADV in 08.

well if you're playing the pro championships at Joliet you can't play this one anyway since it conflicts.  That's why I set it up as AM-only :)

I hope I'll be able to get the 27th off so I can play the JPC.

I was only kidding about coming up and playing ADV.

You have any other sanctioned events this year?

I'm intending this to be my last sanctioned event of the year.  TD's don't get to warm up as easily by walking around and tossing plastic and no close nearby has a nice indoor facility for me to use, so I'm giving in to the cold weather!

Hey Scott,

Since the PDGA website isn't working the way that it was intending to work, how about adding your pre-reg list right here.

Thanks,

McManus

It looks like Sunday is going to be a good day for disc golf. Mild and windy.  Perfect conditions for this time of year. Some wind adds to the fun.

Scott, Are you planning on doing anything special with the OB on hole #5?

Tom

Heh, I could spice it up some on hole 5 couldn't I?  The pond and on/over road are definite OB's.  However, I did like at the Club challenge how it was path and over was OB instead of just the pond.  It won't come into play too much on one of the rounds because the tee will be from one of the alternates - that makes the road come even more into play for the OB.

2nd round will have the original 9 from Alternate tees.  The only one that will be a little messy is the alternate on former #7 (now #14).  The walking path that is now used for #13 to 14 crosses right in front of where the people one 14 will tee from their alt.  I'll make sure to mention that and ask that everyone on 14 be mindful when they tee off and for those coming off 13 to make sure that it is clear before crossing in front of the tee (or just take the old route off of 13).

I have Friday off, and I'm headed out there to flag the alts and hopefully paint arrows for course navigation.  No handbooks this year - too much wear and tear on the printer!

Scott, what is the layout this year with the extra holes?

I remember you had a couple set up by the fields, are those in play Sunday?

I'm not planning on adding any additional holes mainly because of lack of resources.  The biggest reason is that I want to make sure that the event is run in a timely, efficient matter and get everyone out of there well before dark.  Eliminating 4 holes on the day could save at least half an hour.

The stuff that I AM doing to change it up is the 9 concrete tees will be played from the same alternates as last year.  Those give you completely different looks at the basket, and it will be fun to play.  I'm doing alts 2nd round so that if there's dew or whatever on the grass it gives it some time to dry up before you play the grass tees.

I still have your Roselle trophy Adam - was going to give it to you at Round Lake but I didn't see you there.  I'll have it with me at Waukegan.  It's have it ready since West Park!  I just haven't crossed paths with you.

I'm 85% sure I will be coming down to play but there's that slim chance I don't make it down. That's the reason I'm gonna need to wait on the preregistration.

Carla and I are playing in the AM HOWLER on Saturday night so it's going to depend on what time I get home and how the body feels in the morning...But if I just tell myself McManimal plays with a broken collar bone I can play with a sore back, arm, hip and hand!

Yay - no need for porta-potties this year.  The park district will not have the bathrooms winterized yet, and someone is supposed to stop by to open them up at 8 AM.

Tournament central will be set up somewhere near the parking lot, just look for the big van.  I probably won't set out merch until during the 1st round so that I can concentrate on registration and getting everyone started, but I should have the Champ Boss' available immediately.  My order arrived last night.

Scott,

Sorry man, been really busy lately and have not had any time to play the tournaments I set out to do. Not sure
if I can make it Sunday or not but regardless I'll swing through at some point in the day....

The pre-reg that is listed above is accurate... 4 players.  I don't want to post the names of other people that have told me, "I'll be there" because if they don't show, it just makes things worse...  It takes players coming out in order to make the field larger, so I do appreciate those who are doing their part.  I've learned a lot from the Brakel IOS system, and hopefully all that come out will experience a fun, efficiently run event.

If you didn't catch it on the courses thread, some stuff that the Waukegan Park District has done to help get the course ready:

-Limestone work around the baskets
-Mowed holes 6-11
-Cleared lots of junk out of the creek
-Built a new bridge!!!

1200+ discs, t-shirts, Fade Gear and Innova bags, hats, quad shocks, DVD's (get the new Winthrop Gold Clash DVD!), and all sorts of other stuff at the mercha-palooza.  This is my last big event to use your Rob 'em Reward dollars before they expire at the end of the year.

C'mon out!

One of Scott's tournaments was my first tourney.  They are run really well and it was not overwhelming at all.  I was nervous about being out there by myself, and I felt comfortable and welcomed from check-in until I got into to my car and headed for home.   And it was raining just a little bit in Oswego that day if I remember correctly.  :)  I was very pleased and had a great time!  Definitely would go out and support his events every chance I got.

I found a window in my schedule and I am going to come out and play.  Bringing one out with me, going to work on a 2nd and a 3rd.  See you Sunday!

So other than Serg and myself, is anyone contemplating playing advanced? Small divisions are bad enough, but it would be a bummer to only have 2.

Updated Pre-Reg List - Pre-Registration closes tonight at 8pm!

MA2 - Tom McManus 1276
MA2 - Miguel Dominguez 34682
MA2 - Brian Dulek 36184
MA4 - Mark Onstad 27329
MA4 - John Cleaveland 29484
MA4 - Eric McCluskey 28941
MA4 - David Durov 37247
MA4 - Justin Kirsch 37552

It looks like the Novice division will be having a very fun time :)  Thanks to those that are also planning on coming out!

I went out and flagged the course today.  1st round will be from the orange and yellow flags and 2nd round from the pink and yellow flags.  The yellow flags are on the holes that have the same tee both rounds (all the rubber pads).  All of the concretes will have an alternate tee for round 2.

The bridge over 16 looks great!  I walked over that with confidence today :)  There's a pile of sticks that will help you get across from 17 to 18, but I would recommend just going over to 16 and crossing the bridge again - note that you WILL have to cross 16's fairway to use the bridge, so make sure no one is throwing when you cross.

There IS enough water in the creek to make the Creek OB on 16, 17, and 18.  18 will play super tough for righties.

For hole 5 - I decided that if you're on the path or over to the left you are OB, and if you are on the SIDEWALK or over you are also OB.  It narrows the fairway ever so slightly, and really makes a person think twice before bombing it over the trees.

The other thing to note is that for Alternate 3 and Alternate 5 make sure you're playing from the right flags.  I wrote on the flags what hole they are for, but they both look like they could be for either hole.

I'll definitely announce all of these things at the player's meeting.

I'll leave the pre-reg up in case anybody else wants to pre-reg.  You save a couple bucks, get to use a credit card if you need to, just make sure that it's in ASAP.  By Saturday 8pm I'd say that everyone would have had more than enough time to decide to pre-reg or not.

We had 18 people out to play today - 8 Novice, and the 4 Intermediate players moved up to Advanced for a total of 10 Advanced players.  Matt Travis took 1st in Advanced shooting an amazing 108 for the two rounds.  The wind was brutal!  Eric McCluskey took 1st place in Novice, congrats!

I'll post the results here at some point, and some day it will be on the PDGA :)

Wind was strong enough today to push people if you weren't footed properly, regardless of value discs aren't designed to fly in wind like that. The sport would get very old, very quick if that was the norm.

thread drift, but weather related
i played the doubles in rockford in the wind/rain/hail/snow. there was about 25 teams that played, 5 people showed up without partners, only one person had to leave. during the second round the wind was blowing people out of their stances like it was nothing. i seen discs do things i thought i would never see. $200 was the pro cash out. pat " jetman" gourly and rod "the ripper" fritz won. their team name was "jet the ripper" lol.

thankfully we had no rain, no hail, no snow, but plenty of wind!  It was sunny most of the day and boy did I need that.

In response to your comment, Matt, woohoo for the tournament schedule page to be up, but unfortunately the area where I go to upload scores and stuff is not working.  I'll probably just submit the TD report this week and hope that the folks at the PDGA will put it up for us.  Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if the ratings don't go up until the ratings update at the end of november.

Also, I wanted to reaffirm that for the one call we needed to make was played correctly and the results were tallied correctly.

803.06 Unplayable Lie
A.  A player may declare his or her lie to be an unplayable lie.  The player is the sole judge as to whether the lie is unplayable.  The unplayable lie may be relocated to a new lie that is: (1) No closer to the hole, on the line of play and within five meters of the unplayable lie; or (2) The previous lie as evidenced by the marker disc or, if the marker disc has been moved, from an approximate lie as agreed to by the majority of the group or an official. The original throw plus one penalty throw are counted in the player's score.

Nate did declare it as unplayable, he backed straight up within limits to get to a spot where he could throw, and he also took a penalty stroke along with the original throw.  His score of 9 on that hole was correct.  This happened on hole 6 - I didn't check all of the cards, but there were ranges of scores from 3-15 on that hole for the 2nd round.  Crazy!

It will be interesting to see if they use the ratings from this event. If they don't see a nice curve then they look into the conditions a little more closely. If they find out it was played in a wind storm then they'll probably throw the ratings out.

I think it was one 15, one 9, and then everything else was 3-6, but it still turned out to be a brutal hole.  I played a round while setting out flags on Friday with no wind and shot a 59.  Sunday with similarly rated people in the same format (round 1 Novice) the best score was a 66.  Evil, evil wind!

I can't remember any Widdershins that didn't involve at least some form of hurricane strength winds.

Taylor-

I bet if you can get ahold of Al Bingman (sp) he will do it.  Maybe there is someone here that sees him at leagues?

Well, stopped by Bevier today and played a round and then took a dip afterwards. Boy was that cold the best swim I've had in months!

Deal no longer available...

I've never learned to swim, so I'm not offering to go, but how deep do you think it is?  I have no idea how far offshore that disc wound up going.   Makes me want to blind fish with my golden disc retriever :-P

Tom might have a good idea, I'm not even sure now. I had guessed about 15 feet, but I didn't find it yesterday, so who knows. It gets deep pretty quick in there, and the bottom is squishy so it was more so swimming than wading around. There wasn't a lot of junk in there though, so the disc retriever could work without getting hung up.

I tried a home-made disc retriever and then an actual disc retriever. I swooped around the sign and before the sign for a while and didn't bring anything back other than weeds.

I think it was 15 to 20 feet in when it hit the water, as windy as it was that day there is no telling how far it ended up from the shore.
