Question:
Would you subscribe to an IOS Twitter?
Option 1: Yes
Option 2: No
Option 3: Don't Know
Option 4: Don't Care
Option 5: Don't have an option to get text messages
Twitter is a service that allows one to send text messages to anyone that wants to subscribe to them. Why would you want to get text messages from the IOS? Well, I was thinking that we could text out the following kinds of info:
Before the event:
- How many people are pre registered
- A schedule of the day's events
- Tee assignments
- OB areas
During the event:
- Info about a delay in tee off. Did you ever wonder why sometimes you wind up standing on the tee for an extra 10 minutes before tee off? It's usually because there's a problem on the course that needs to be addressed before we can sound the horn. Often it is a grouping situation in the second round where only two people have shown up for the round. We could send a message that tee off will be delayed for x minutes.
- We can send a message on how long lunch break will be. If you've already left the course, it might be nice to find out that the last card didn't come in until 30 minutes after you left so you have even more time than you thought.
- We can send a message on exactly when tee off will be. The time on cell phones is pretty standard so if we texted a 1:50pm tee off you could look at your cell phone and know exactly when we're blowing the horn. This would help at courses like Crystal Lake where you can't hear the horn all the way around the park.
- Weather updates. If a nasty storm is coming we can let you know about it. We can also text if we need to call play because of lightning.
After the event:
- I can send messages about hot rounds and ratings.
I'd be willing to do this even if only a handful of people wanted to sign up. Let me know what you think.
heh, just be sure to send out a "put your phone on vibrate or silent" twitter message BEFORE sounding the 2-minute or tee-off horn haha.
Those do sound like good ideas and something that would be beneficial, but it also sounds like one of those things that is good in theory and until it's actually done it is hard to give much more feedback.
I for one would be interested. I am an info/data junky so getting those kind of updates would be cool.
sounds good
i would like messages late during the first round telling about local eateries....

That would be the Mukey twitter feed. ;D
I have unlimited data. Sure.
My problem is I get charged for each one. That's what happens when you string along a plan from the 90s. (You also save quite a bit of money too.) But conceptually, I think it is a great idea. If I didn't pay for text messages, I'd subscribe.
NO.

I do not have a Twitter account, but from what I know you can edit your settings to a few different scenarios. Maybe SMS on tourney day, but email on other days. Or just email only and then you can see what everyone is getting via text if you wanted to do that.
I followed the USDGC twitter feed which worked great with the dots, but I don't think it is in the budget for the IOS crew to install wi-fi at the course. :-)
