If you're a true Cubs fan, you don't steal the ball from the players!
Beware the goat...........
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!
Post by: mirth on October 15, 2003, 09:12:26 AM
Oh please, that ball was foul. Its not the fan's fault that he was doing what 99.9999999999% of the surrounding fans would have also done.

Why not find something more constructive to lay the blame on, like dropping a ground out that coulda been the double to end the inning?
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!
Post by: myndcraft on October 15, 2003, 10:44:20 AM
I agree thet dropping the ball for the double was a horrible horrible mistake. I do however thing that any cubs fans present, and paying attention, would NOT have gone after that ball. While I do not lay total blame on that one incident I do think it was a factor. It was a morale and momemntum changer. One which the Cubs should have been able to recover from, and the fact they were not able to is no one's fault but their own's. In the end though I do think its a factor, had that not been in their minds maybe they would have gotten that double right afterwords.

i thought you were supposed to be silent

Here's my prediction, although I am truly rooting for the cubbies as i have been all my life.

Tonight's Game:
Marlins 1
Cubs 0
Wood will hit 3 players with fastballs
Sosa will strike out 3 times

Go CUBS!

Yeah, needless to say that guy's life is gonna change... at least for the short term.

Jay - good points, although I still think that anybody in that seat prolly woulda gone for it. Did any of you notice he was wearing headphones last night? My guess is that he was listening to the WGN broadcast, or possibly the audio from Channel 12.

Jim - you're on crack. The cubs are going to roll all over the marlins tonight. Its their destiny, they're on a mission from gahd. ;)

Difference between Cubs & White Sox

If that would have happened on the South Side, they would have beaten the hell out of that guy.
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!

Shit, they woulda beaten the hell outta that guy last night had security not taken him into 'protective custody'

*awakens from the shadows.... again*

Mirth> I dunno, you may be right some other fan may have gone for it had they been there. I know personally givin the situation and Rameriez's glove right there, I wouldn't have gone for it. I dunno, to me it just seems like an absoultely stupid thing to do. It's one thing to screw with the other teams fielders, but your own???? Maybe he was paying to much attention to the radio broadcast than the real thing. If thats the case my opinion is there were thousands of people that would have killed to be at the park, he shoulda stayed home and listened to his radio there.

Brett> Mirth is right he would have been dead had he not been pulled into custody. Did you hear the chant? "Kill him, kill him"

As for the violence  issue, today I am calm, yesterday had I been there, I can honestly say I would have made sure the guy was eating baby food for the rest of his life, but hell I have issues :D

*returns to the shadows*

Oh c'mon. Everybody's eyes were up in the air! Are you saying you would have had the presence of mind to not only watch the ball but also pay attention to where Ramierez was?

And wearing the headphones, potentially listening to the game.... You've never watched a game with the volume down on the TV & listened to the radio broadcast at the same time? Too bad.... WGN's broadcast is sometimes up to 5 seconds ahead of the TV signal, not to mention Ron Santo is so much better to listen to than Fox's talking heads.
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!
Post by: myndcraft on October 15, 2003, 01:29:08 PM
so what did he take his eyes off the ball then when it was a foot away from the glove? If his perhperial vision is that bad I hope he doesn't have a drivers liscense.

Nope I have never listened to the broadcast while watching the game. Why ruin what you are about to see. And in this guys case hes in the bloody park, his vision is ahead of the radio broadcast by 3 seconds.

I do agree though Santo is a better commentator I hope his health gets better soon. He deserves to be there for the Worlds... Not to mention the hall of fame.

Again, another difference between the north side & south side. Security stepped in & took him out becasue they were prepared. On the south side they let people on the field to beat & attack visiting coaches.

Either way, I could care less what happened last night. The Cubs have a chance tonight to get in the Series. For the first time since I was born, I feel good about the Cubs Organization. I've hated them brutally the last few years. Especially when they traded Grace to the D-Backs. I now own a few D-Backs shirts. For the first time they went out & paid for a manager & picked up some players. I think the Cubs are way ahead of schedule this year considering the brutal team they had under Baylor last year. Pitching + a good supporting cast. Maybe if the management continues to see that putting a winning product on the field, they will draw 3 million per year & still make a boat load of cash. I feel good about 2004 no matter what happens tonight. How many other teams can say that right now?

Well, as a Marlins fan (Yes I'm a real Marlins fan not a fair-weather fan, I grew up in South FL. Go Canes!) I think everyone made a bigger deal about the foul ball incident.  Did it give the Marlins another out, maybe.  Alou probably coulda caught the ball and made the out but the fan wasn't botching a double play either.  I'm worried about tonight's game agains Wood but really I can't complain, I don't think ANYBODY picked the Marlins to be in this position at the beginning of the year so I'll take it!  At least it's been a fun series to watch, and you can't always say THAT about baseball.

I've heard that there is a line in one of the Back to the Future movies that the Cubs win the World Series in 2003, Don't know if that's true but I thought it said something like Florida beats the Cubs or something like that.  Although if it's it's really interesting.

Back to the Future II right after Marty borrows the little girl's hover board and makes the goons crash into the town square building. The "Sports Report" comes on the town square holographic media player (it plays news and commercials and town events, etc.) and announces that the Cubs swept Miami to win the World Series. This happened on October 21, 2015, and it was the World Series not the NLCS.

Well, congrats to the Cubs fans, it was an awesome series to watch.  They made a valiant effort.   Who woulda thunk Prior and wood woulda lost on back to back nights?  Crazy.  Now I want to see Boston because if the Marlins do lose, I'd rather them lose to the Sox than the Evil Empire.

Wow, now THIS is thread drift!!!

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/egalitarianism/ (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/egalitarianism/)

Egalitarianism
Egalitarianism is a trend of thought in political philosophy. An egalitarian favors equality of some sort: People should get the same, or be treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect. Egalitarian doctrines tend to express the idea that all human persons are equal in fundamental worth or moral status. So far as the Western European and Anglo-American philosophical tradition is concerned, one significant source of this thought is the Christian notion that God loves all human souls equally. Egalitarianism is a protean doctrine, because there are several different types of equality, or ways in which people might be treated the same, that might be thought desirable. In modern democratic societies, the term "egalitarian" is often used to refer to a position that favors, for any of a wide array of reasons, a greater degree of equality of income and wealth across persons than currently exists.

Yep, was fun Jim.  With the wind I played a few really cool safari holes at the end of a round at Parkside.  It must have been pushing 35mph.  #18 short (path) to #4, #5long to #1.  and the side of the flag mound to practice basket...love the wind, good fun..

It was a good day to disc. The wind only effected half of the holes. Why does it seem I am always throwing into the wind? I shot par from the short tees at Hiestand.

Elver is now closed for winter.

Curious if you're ever going to send the check for that disc?

Alternatively you can PayPal the amount to the club...

The disc is on hold for you until Friday, January 30th. If you don't pay for it by then it goes back up for sale & I think it will get snatched up fairly quickly.
The disc is $20, and if you want it shipped its $5 extra.

Brett, what will summer league ace pool start at?

$65. The other half goes to the club to start an ace reserve fund. Haven't discussed this at length with Brett yet but I'd like to set a cap on the ace pool at $200 & start growing a reserve in case it gets hit.

I'm not following...Ace Reserve Fund? If someone hits an ace they get whatever is in the ace fund, don't they? What exactly does the reserve fund do?
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!

yes, they get whats in the current ace pool. the reserve would be in the event the ace gets hit the new pool doesn't start off at $0

kids team lost friday
won sat
won sunday

they have to beat best team
twice to win it all

today she reacher on an error (by her cousin)
shot to center
double to left to drive in run that tied it up
she stole third and scored the winning run on a hit

so now it will be a great weekend if the sox win

i copied it from my buddy

Ah cool. I used to be into Rush a lot, then Counterparts came out & I haven't listened to their new stuff ever since. I still have most of their albums up to & including Counterparts...

My brother tried to get me to go with him to see 'em in Early June @ Tinley, but he got the tix off eBay & 100/ticket was too rich for me.

it was a great show

dont want to start new thread

who is going to win the world series   ?

i like the cards in the NL  (just to tick off the cub fans)

the angels did a class thing leaving jose gullien off their playoff roster
even though it might cost them a chance at winning

so im for cards vs angels

with angels winning

I think it will have a bit more midwest of a flavor. Cards over Twinks.  I hate to say Twinks knowing that, ahem, they were beatable this year.  The Cards and Twinks are playing great fundamental baseball but the Cards have more weapons.  It will be a disaster for the networks and a delight for the purists.  In between watching our next Vice President I saw a solid Twinkie team outplay NY.

oh dear Lord please let spuds get a job so he'll stop posting
constantly on the message board and he'll get some cash
to bring to our events to donate

or something like that

fingers crossed

u would think my disc golf game would have gotten
better since ive been out of work
but now since i hurt the shoulder moving my buddy
ive stopped throwing but have still played volley ball
which hasnt helped

so just a word of advice
next time someone asks you to help move
just hand them 50 bucks and tell them to get movers
and go play disc

I pulled the following from the web:

1033 SKOKIE BOULEVARD
SUITE 500
NORTHBROOK, IL 60062

If this is the address, it is just off the Edens Expressway, Hwy 41.  You could get off at Dundee and scope out the site on your way up to Bevier on Sunday.  This would be just south of Dundee.  There are a handfull of corporate office type buildings in the area. This should be pretty easy to find.  The big monkey wrench, if you get the gig, is the construction on the Edens.  It will be no problem Sunday morning.  However, it WILL slow you down during rush hour.  :(
Title: Welcome to our newest board member - Airspuds!
Post by: mirth on November 19, 2004, 11:41:50 AM
Edens construction is done in both directions, however outbound in the morning & inbound in the afternoons almost always SUCK.

Positive - 3 courses within 10 minutes of there. I work off Dempster so a meetup is possible...

Why do you have this Sammy avatar Airspuds?  YOUR A WHITE SOX FAN!!!!!  Why can't Sox fans start thinking about their own team instead of spending 90% of their worries on what the Cubs are doing?  This is a 1 team town.  The Cubs.  There are Cubs fans and then fans who don't like the Cubs who call themselves White Sox fans.

Do you see me with a Magglio avatar saying HE GONE!!!  No, cuz i don't care.  Quit hatin Spuds!  Sammy didn't do nothin to you.

due to car problems and the weather we ended up playing a round at oly fields in

on the plus side i ran into someone who noticed my initials and pdga # on a disc
he had found an xd i had thrown in the lake at the Homie T last year

it was still in great shape so that disc goes right back in the bag
