Awesome!!!! Man we always talk about how cool it would be to add holes in those woods. This is going to be a lot of fun.
There will be about 4 or 5 good holes in the woods. I don't have finalized plans and don't plan to do so until early next spring but I have many layouts in my head.
Some initial thoughts.
After playing hole #1 you would cross the street.
1A would play up the street towards the parking lot. This would probably be a par 4 and the basket would be placed as far back as possible. The street to the left would be OB (On/Over). Woods on the right.
After 1A you will have to cross the fairway of #2 then into the woods. I plan on a minimum of 4 holes leading back to #2.
6A would be between #6 & #7.
9A would play to the south towards the monument.
9B would play up the trail (tunnel) leading up towards 7's basket.
9C would be in the area of the league alternate added hole 8.
9D would tee from the top of the sled hill (anhyzer) tucked near the woods at the bottom of the hill. The pavillion would be on your left.
9E would tee up the hill with the basket being to the right of the pavillion and near the parking lot ob. Pavillion area would be OB too.
I got the final paperwork approval in the mail today so it's officially on. I updated the initial thread. I hope to have online registration rolling in the next week.

Awesome. A win would be the best present you could give yourself!
97 spots left!
After Bruce and I ran our handicapped rotating partners doubles tournament at Adler (we had a turn out of 8!), we wanted to run a traditional PDGA event with added baskets to make at least 18 holes and the PD said absolutely no added holes in ANY tournament. This was about 6 or 7 years ago. I only bring this up because of the the whole Lombard situation. Personnel at park districts (just like anywhere) change and written and unwritten policies change also. It is nice to see that LPD has changed its unwritten no extra basket policy!
Nice job making this tournament happen Brett!
95 spots remaining. Once I get the information from the PDGA i'll start uploading names onto the tour page.
Sounds like a blast, hopefully I can swing a M-F that week. Looking into it now. Your temp course at the A-Tier last year was awesome, I'm sure these 11 will be sweet.

Holes 1A, 2, 9D, & 9 E are par 4's. Par for the event will be 67.
If the road is OB on 1A I can foresee the backups being 3-4 groups. Looking forward to the tourney though.

I have been getting blown up with e-mails and calls about this event. It's a still a month away! In the past week i've had 11 e-mails and 3 calls. Yesterday a player from Fort Worth TX called and said he'll be in town and plans on playing. I've had a lot of Adler Tuesday night league players tell me they'll get money to me soon. This morning I had 2 more e-mails asking for information.
Sounds good! Adler has a lot of potential. It should be fun.

Somewhat unrelated but I'm heading up to check out Adler tomorrow before this tournament and was wondering if folks had recommendations for other 9 holers to check out in that area. It looks like there's quite a few and I've played none. Thanks.

Warren has a pretty good 9 hole course. Once you play the first 3 holes you have to cross the parking lot to the west to find hole 4. Then after you play hole 7 go across the service road and up the steps to play hole 8. There is some walking between some of the holes, but overall it is a nice course.

Attached is a tentative map for this event. I am pretty sure on all the holes but 9D. That will be a par 4ish type wooded hole playing up the path. A 2nd shot will be to the basket. I have yet to decide where to place the basket.
Holes 1A, 2, 9D, & 9 E are par 4's. Par for the event will be 67.
I got a chance to play holes 1A thru 1E yesterday. Roman tagged along and can give some info too.
1A-> I'd guess it's 500 to 550 feet but plays longer since it's slightly uphill. This is a good par 4 with risk/reward. You can play your tee shot safe under the tree or thru the gap avoiding the road. This will make your 2nd shot much tougher. A lefty has an advantage off this tee. As a righty if you throw a big anhyzer for distance the road and tree line come into play. If you get a booming drive off you are going to be in good position (100 to 150ft) for an upshot.
I played this hole both ways. Big anhyzer destroyer then a buzz approach. Hyzer under the trees with a destroyer then an orc approach. On a calm day I would possibly be using a Roc or Wizard on that approach. It was a much eaiser approach going big anny but that road comes into play in a hurry!
1B-> I'd guess this hole is 280 to 300ft. It plays slightly downhill with a solid fairway. If you don't throw it staright you'll find some trouble. I may put the pin on the right side of the fairway on top of the wood chips. I have not made the decision yet but i'm leaning towards it. A right handed player will have to throw something that will hold its line and not hyzer out to get a solid birdie attempt. The elevated green should make this hole very difficult.
I played this hole using a Valkyrie. On a calm day I may consider throwing a Roc.
1C-> I'd guess this hole is 250 to 270ft. There is a nice anhyzer route thru the woods to a nice open green.
I threw a Roc and Buzz on this hole. If you have a good forehand this hole is perfect for it.
1D-> I'd guess this hole is 230 to 250ft. This is a slightly uphill shot thru a pretty tight fairway. The basket is going to be just off the fairway to the left side. The green is going to be well protected and a tricky one to get a putt. A nice straight shot that gently fades left is perfect. If you come up short or gack a drive there is some HEAVY rough!
I threw a Roc and Buzz. On a calm day i'd consider using a Wizard. Tricky!
1E-> I'd guess this hole is 200 to 220ft. Dead straight ace run down the alley of pines. The road is directly on the other side of the trees to the left. If you miss left you have a good chance at going onto or over the road OB. Pretty heavy rough to the right and left. This is one of those putter holes you are thinking I have to birdie this hole then absolutely blow up when you take a 4 on it due to a bad shot and not able to scramble for par.
I threw a beat putter.
These 5 holes alone add some great variety to this course.
Dan and I scoped out some holes a month or so ago for the others. I'll have more description when I get back and play them again.
9A--330ish..Big anhyzer driver shot down to the monument.
9B--240ish..Tight stright mid range shot.
9C--250ish Slight tricky hyzer.
9D--450ish Par 4. Drive up the trail to the opening. Upshot to the left into the woods. Hard 3 to get! Gotta have good drive & upshot.
9E--Par 4. Semi open fairway with scattered trees. Long drive with solid upshot to take 3.
9F--280ish downhill. Tee on top sled hill. Basket on the bottom of the hill about 30ft in front of the fence.
9G--300ish uphill. Pavillion & sidwalk OB. Heavy rough/woods on the right.
Got a chance to play this course for the first time today and have to say that as far as nine hole courses go this one was top notch. There's maybe only one or two "easy" holes and even those have challenges. It was a little slick and muddy out there, but hopefully will dry up in the next couple of weeks. I had a look at some of the temp holes as best I could do from the map and seems like there's going to be a good mix of technical and distance. 1a should be really tough, you'll have to play smart. I'll be happy with a non OB 4 on that hole. 9a looks like a fun hole too a good challenge for a righty. I'm excited for the tournament.
Also played Warren Township. Thanks for the tip. I thought it was decent, a few good holes and few that were kind of blah. Were there ever signs? I started at 4 and finished on 3 back at the parking lot which seemed kind of wierd. With Adler right down the road I'd just play Adler if I had to choose.
QuoteRoman tagged along and can give some info too.
Brett pretty much covered everything on the temp holes. The only thing I can add is that the holes in the woods really add a lot to the course and holes like this are definitely missing in a lot of courses in Lake County. Pretty much all of the holes in the woods towards Milwaukee Ave are deucable with a good controlled drive, but if you shank it off a tree early on then you are looking at a tough par. This should be a great course and I can't wait to play it.

I'm looking forward to playing another one of your course designs, Brett. I'm sure that I'll like all the holes and by the end of the tourney I'll expect to really hate one, at least.
Anyway, I had some questions;
- On the map there is a #6A which you have not described, could you?
- Are the rest of the holes pretty much going to be as you have previously described?
Thank you,

- On the map there is a #6A which you have not described, could you?
- Are the rest of the holes pretty much going to be as you have previously described?
Thank you,
Tafe Hemler
Tafe,
Thanks for registering to play!
I decided to put 6A to break up the walk between 6 and 7 and figured it'd be a great CTP hole for all skill level players. It will be 215ft. I plan to use it for the 50/50 CTP hole. It's a fair hole to both left/right handed players with OB behind the basket. There is a tree on the right and left which will require a straight shot but it's not that tight of a shot.
The rest of the holes will be as described except #1B. I haven't finalized the pin position for that hole. One voice keeps telling me to put it on the wood chips (elevated) on the right had side. The other tells me the hole is too similar to hole #2 so move it into the natural opening on the left. The deer in the woods tells me to place it in the middle. That might be a Friday decision.
Updated this for Tafe & others that might play the course.
1A-> Tee is on the north side of the road in the grass. I'd guess it's 500 to 550 feet but plays longer since it's slightly uphill.
1B-> I placed 2 logs where the tee is. I'd guess this hole is 280 to 300ft.
I placed a beer bottle where the tee will be and a stick where the basket will go.
I threw a Roc and Buzz on this hole. If you have a good forehand this hole is perfect for it.
1D-> I placed 2 logs where the tee will be. I'd guess this hole is 230 to 250ft. I cleaned up a few dead limbs under the pines. This is where the basket will be placed.
I threw a beat aviar putter.
These 5 holes alone add some great variety to this course.
Dan and I scoped out some holes a month or so ago for the others. I'll have more description when I get back and play them again.
9A--330ish..Big anhyzer driver shot down to the monument. Tee will be in grass to the right of the grassy burm.
9B--240ish..Tight stright mid range shot.
9C--250ish Slight tricky hyzer. I cleaned up the fairway and there is a nice hyzer shot. Marked the tee with a stick. The basket area has a nice cleared out area by the path.
9D--450ish Par 4. Drive up the trail to the opening. Upshot to the left into the woods. The basket will be placed near the hole with the big log in it.

I was not trying to be a smart ass. I've been handing flyers out like crazy.
Side note: I was able to hang IOS flyers at Waukegan, Libertyville, and Round Lake last year. I used the 2008 IOS logo. Aurora had one up most of the summer.

I know Brett that's why I put the big smiley out there. Someone asked me if you'd take pre-reg at IOS #1 and I told him that you probably would but I'd throw it out there so people would know.
My computer is about 1/2 recovered from my HD crash so I'm hoping to be able to get some flyers into people's hands at the CAC.

So, I played the course today. Utter slop-fest, 1/2 in. water just about everywhere. For some reason my rollers were working though, ???.
Anyway I believe that I found most of the holes.
#9a was underwater. If the green was the monument, you'd still have to wade out to it from any angle.
I didn't find #9b or #9c, I think maybe I didn't go south enough, it was a tough walk with the path underwater.
Other than that it looks like fun so long as it doesn't rain a whole lot more or on the day.

The course was in great shape last night. It has pretty much completely dried up. Hopefully there will only be a little light rain today.
I am still concerned about holes 9A thru 9C. 9A has a puddle in the fairway but it's passable using the trail. The water level has dropped a lot. 9B & 9C were a little soggy but very playable. I have a backup plan but I'd rather use that section of the park since it adds something most of the north side golf does not offer.

Well the Rifleman is lucky this tournament is not in June. After tearing up Bevier last week he might be over 970 after the update.
Brett, can you take my PDGA number off my name please and move me to the larger Intermediate field? I'll give you the non-PDGA member $10 fee on Saturday.
The elves currently have Bingman calculated below 970. Guess you'll just have to kick it up a notch, Taylor.

Speaking of getting a larger intermediate field, someone should notify these ~920 rated players registered for Advanced to kick it on down to Intermediate where there is more competition and plenty of lesser skilled players like myself they can beat up on.
I'm talking to you Nick Austin, Mark Santa Maria, and Robert Mcdonald! Getting your ass kicked by Al Bingman, Taylor, or Dave Nelson isn't going to make you a better player ;)
Plus, if you play intermediate there is a chance you'll get to play with Tom McManus, which is guaranteed to make you feel better about your putting ;D
I'll be joining you after the next ratings update...
I can never tell when Dan is joking, but when I was thinking all that, I wasn't.
Advanced is intended to be a division for players rated 935 to 970, and for higher rated players who have some reason for not going pro. It is going to take 1000 rated disc golf to win in advanced at this tournament.
Anyone who wants to play up should feel free, or feel $30 poorer, rather. But don't feel like Alex is bagging. The elves have been watching him. If he had been a current member, he'd still be eligible for advanced.
That has to be getting pricey paying the $10 fee every tournament.

Hell yeah, good times!
Looks like we are starting to get the rain they were calling for. Hope it doesn't pour much, the course was in pretty decent shape
last night.
Better sign up by tomorrow. Chances are this event is going to fill. Adler has very nice 9 hole course and Brett always comes up with some great additional holes. This is one event that you don't want to miss. Couple of nice places to eat very close by. Jimmy Johns is within walking distance.
This is going to fill so Kelsey and I are going to head east to play a tournament on a ski hill course this weekend. That tournament probably won't fill, and maybe i can find an old guy division to play in.
If you want in, I'm guessing that this fills tomorrow evening.
Hopefully no one called today. One of Lake County's finest was practicing his future skills and took my cell phone. He'll be in an orange jumper sooner or later. My old cell phone is up and running now. He actually saved me 15% per month. I did not realize teachers got 15% off the monthy cell bill.
After a delay of heading to AT&T I got quite a bit done tonight.
Score cards are done and attached. Hopefully the course will stay high and dry.
CTP print outs are done.
Course maps and OB information have been printed.
Trophies are complete.

Go north 1 more exit to 137 Buckley Rd. Turn left/west, towards Libertyville and head about 4/5 miles.
Turn left/south on 21 Milwaukee.
The Park will be on your left at the first stop light you come to. Approximately 1/2 mile.

Nearly 80% of the field is set.

I went out to Adler on my lunch break. Brett and a crew of volunteers already had the temps marked out. Course is looking very nice and the temps are some fun holes! Get in now cuz this thing is nearly filled.

If you want to get in on the DISContinuum CTPs, we will have bag tags available in the morning. We are also looking for a volunteer who would be willing to collect and pass out bag tags.
Thanks.

Club Memberships are $15.00, as part of your club membership you get a bagtag. There are also many other perks to being a club member, including the oportunity to play in a free sanctioned event.
Miguel - I have your registration as well as Phil's - I sent the info along to Brett to enter once he gets home.
Course is set up and enjoyable. Easy to go way down on the score, but also easy to miss those gaps and take 4's.
Hey Scott I think I signed Phil and I for advanced but I meant to sign us up for intermediate. Can we be moved to intermediate intsead?
no bagger you cant

Coure looks great. Lots of players!
News Sun called for some info. They'll be there taking pictures and interviewing some winners.

There are 12 spots if any walk ups show up.
Best to wear boots or crappy shoes you don't care much about because this rain we just got will make the course nasty with mud and pockets of water all over.
The places to really look out for are one, four, eight, nine and possibly 9a
time to pack the car a and roll
Man what a great event, I had a blast! Kudos to Brett, Scott, Senior and whoever else helped in running
such a fine tournament. Those alternate holes were really nice, very enjoyable.
Good stuff....

What a fun course to play with some awesome temp holes. Thanks for all your hard work everyone!
Great job by Brett in putting the CAC together this year. What a fun day. Thank goodness for pre-reg, the way the weather was in the morning, I think there would have been more than a few of us that stayed home. But the skies closed up and we had a good day of weather, the wind always makes it more fun on the course.
The 13 temp holes were great. 9E wasn't my favorite hole, but I certainly won't forget it anytime soon. 9D was an extremely tough hole that seemed to be fair to everyone. Like most everyone else, 1A was hurtful to me. Was there any 3s on 1A?
Excellent job on getting everyone out in the morning, having the pre-reg cards done the night before, color coded for divisions was an excellent idea.
Thanks to Scott Pitner for having the largest inventory around. If Scott doesn't carry it, you don't need it. There was a boatload of items to choose from today, or at the very least a very packed vanload.
Congrats to Al Bingman, who shot a hot 57 the first round, that was some great shooting in some pretty rough conditions.
Thanks to Adrian Sr, Mike Clark, Tony Battisti, and Dan Michler for breaking down the course. The additional time spent on the temporary holes really help to make a Brent Comincioli event special. Promoting an event before it takes place is huge. It was great to see Libertyville get a sanctioned event, it has been too long since one has taken place.
Thanks again Brett for the fantastic job and all the hard work. Getting the scores up the day of the event is another bonus. You really made many people happy today. I am looking forward to your next event.
I know Phil won the 50/50. Who won the Discontinuum CTPs? Who won the Ace Fund? And finally when are those sweet new Discontinuum discs going to be available to everyone?
I want to thank everyone who helped set up and tear down the course. There was a crew of us out on Friday morning from 9 until 12. We marked the tees, laid the rubber paids, cleared a few fairways, and did some minor trimming. We were again out early Saturday getting the baskets out then tearing it down again late in the day.
Without Scott Pitner of www.paperorplasticsports.com this event would not happen. He has an awesome selection of plastic and merchandise. He did an awesome job with online registration. Please support local disc golf and buy from PorP.
Thank you DISContinuum Disc Golf Club for the use of 6 rubber tee pads and 5 baskets. DISContinuum donated 4 CTP's for club members only. In the past 2 weekends DISContinuum has picked up about 15 new members. Thank you for the support!
I want to thank my dad for the trophies. He took the picture while in Chicago and did the editing.
Satruday was a blast. Thank you players for preregistering! I don't think anyone had to wait in line more than a minute or so to check in. We teed off exactly at 9:45.
I had a blast being in the center of the action on 9F & 9G. Scott stopped counting the number of shots that landed in the pavillion.
Eric Fite aced hole #1 round 2. He won $142
Phil Popovich won the $107 50/50 on hole 6A.
$106 was raised for a 2010 A-Tier.
4 DISContinuum Member Only CTP's
1 Streamwood Disc Golfer's Union CTP.
22 $15 2nd round CTP's
Congrats to all the winners.
Results can be found here.

Tafe Hemler
Nick Austin

Trevor Pigney
Doug Buettgen
Brian Kidder
Todd Cratty

Note: This is the last time i'll put the true course par on a score card. Now I see why disc golf has used par 3 for all these years.

Nice job Tafe. Getting 1A twice.
I am very excited to see the article in tomorrow's News Sun.
I am always looking for feedback about temporary holes. I admint 6A was a pretty lame hole but as a player I hate walking between 6 & 7. It made a good 50/50 CTP hole and i'm pretty sure Phip Popovich loves it.
figured I should post so that people know I'm still alive lol. I left last night extremely tired. I arrived home shortly after 9:30, and the unloading has begun today! Thanks to all of you for being patient waiting in line to get checked out during the tournament payout madness (any ideas on how to make that process better I'm willing to listen to ideas!).
Thanks to the crew that helped me get the van loaded and unloaded. It would have taken me 2-3 hours easy doing it all by myself! You guys are the best!
I look forward to the next event :)

It was one of those must get holes that you kick yourself if you miss, but I definitely agree with it since it uses up that wasted space during the walk. Perhaps another option with a mando could be used next year to make it harder?
I liked the course setup and had fun, my groups were great both rounds. Nice to finally play with Frank Luce and Nick Austin.

I'd be curious for the reasoning behind this. Was it just too many incorrect score cards?
You gotta like this quote for the newspaper article for a park that is supposed to be no smoking:
Quote"I quit playing everything else...bowling, golf, whatever... once I started playing this," said Bingman between drags on his cigarette.
. . . and what a wonderful picture of that hunk, Tom McManus!
That was one of the better local articles I've read over the years.

Yes, mass confusion.
If you've heard the bit by Larry the Cable Guy about giving $5 and change to the fast food worker that pretty much sums it up.
I am very glad he decided to add the Lake County Forest Preserve issue.
I'm glad the noted that Bingman was single. :D And now the ladies know were to find him at the college.
Yea they really did a good job of making him look good! Good article otherwise though.

I made a mistake on mine, however, I'm NOT blaming it on the fact that you used course par instead of par 3. I just had an idiot moment. In the second round, I initially checked everyone's score, then had everyone double check their own. Guess I should have had someone double check mine. Oh, and I was a math major in college
So what kind of animal was that?
On 1d I kicked off tree and was just to the right of the fairway in the trees about 1/2 way to the basket. about 10 feet to the right of my disc was a completely clean bony carcass with a head of an animal that likely weighed about 30 lbs. It looks like it may have been a dog or coyote. It didn't really effect my shot out of trouble but sure did creep me out. I am still not sure whether it was picked clean by other animals or whether somebody living on the temp holes had left his BBQ out there. Oooooo. :puke:

its probably cause after round one. a guy in advanced(i wont mention his name) didnt like how the scores added up and started cussing and kicking and throwing stuff. personally i think, and the 20 others that witnessed the childish attitude, thought he should have gottn a couple strokes for poor attitude. cause if you cant figure things out ask for help nicely and double check your own score.
I liked that article better than the other "I've never heard of this sport before so I'm sure everybody in world hasn't heard of it either" type of article. I didn't care for the cigarette comment, that wasn't needed, and I also wanted to note that the Ace Fund was not paid out in Funny money - would have been friggin sweet if it was! But nope, 100% cash for a nice ace on 1.
All of the comments of the course really made me jealous and wanted to play. I enjoyed helping (with what little help I could give) putting up the elevated basket - I heard all sorts of people talking about that one as soon as they saw it - post round talk about it too!
And best Reward Dollar purchase of the day - $20 player pack for 20 packages of candy bars lol. Enjoy the sugar rush :)

They say no smoking but it's not enforced. The reason why Adler lost their back 9 is because the park was concerned that a lot of players would stop at hole 11 or 12 and smoke weed. The bike/walk path was their excuse to get rid of the 9. Btw, here is something even better to know. That path isn't owned by the park, its owned and maintained by the FOREST Preserve!
Funny how they wont open some space up for us but yet, screwed up a really nice course

Once the TD report is submitted and processed by the PDGA points will be added to your player profile. I wait until a week before the ratings update to submit the TD report to keep unofficial ratings posted on the tour page. It is complete and ready for submission.
The TD report was submitted to the PDGA today. Points should be reflected in the next week and ratings will added on the next update.
